[Bug 1856032] Re: Removable media icon stays on the dock after eject.

2021-06-28 Thread Matthew Hales
Confirmed in 21.04.

@Tudor, Alt+F2 r will remove the icon from the launcher until this bug
is squashed.

It appears that the icon permanence occurs when I eject using the
physical button on the drive as opposed to right-clicking and selecting
"Eject" or by running the eject command at the CLI, both of which
successfully removed the CD icon.

I noticed this issue due an old game CD with redbook audio. When Ubuntu
notices that disc, it actually produces two icons on the launcher, one
is an audio CD, the other is the data disc. The Audio CD icon will not
eject the disc when you right click and select that option. There
appears to be no response. If you use the physical eject button on the
drive, the audio CD icon will disappear but the data disc icon remains
until a reset of the desktop with Alt+F2 r.

Could you reboot to BIOS menu and check whether the Touchpad setting is
in Basic mode or Advanced mode? Since the touchpad interrupt (connect
via pinctrl_amd) is not triggered at all, that's should be the reason
why the touchpad doesn't initialize.

Great. If you can please direct me on what to configure to capture any
debugging info and what do with ubuntu live cd boot I can do that.

BTW, I have been using the system since 25th and it has not crashed

I will give one last shot to debug this further.

[Bug 1881180] [NEW] drop suru-icon-theme (and use UBports' suru-icon-theme as upstream)

2021-06-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

As part of the initiative of packaging Lomiri (former Unity8) for
Debian, I have just created a standalone source project for suru-icon-
theme [1]. This will soon be packaged for and uploaded to Debian
unstable.

The UBports developers have added several changes to "their" suru-icon-
theme which makes it impossible to use suru-icon-theme from the ubuntu-
theme src:pkg on Ubuntu Touch. On the other hand, UBports' suru-icon-
theme should still be good to go with on Ubuntu.

Furthermore, for Debian upload, I preferred not to package the ubuntu
specific artwork as a whole. The solution at UBports upstream was
providing suru-icon-theme as a standalone upstream project.

Thus, I'd like to suggest dropping suru-icon-theme from Ubuntu Theme (at
least the bin:pkg) and use the suru-icon-theme package being available
in Debian soon('ish (dependening on NEW queue processing)).

The UBports devs are open to merge requests if that is required from
time to time.

Thanks+Greets,
Mike (aka sunweaver at debian.org)

[Bug 1933913] [NEW] "Xorg -configure" results in "modprobe: FATAL: Module fbcon not found in directory /lib/modules/5.10.0-7-amd64"

2021-06-28 Thread Bill Yikes

With x11 not running, this was executed: "Xorg -configure". It should
simply build a configuration file. The output below appears in the

[Bug 1933886] Re: tor browser not launching in impish

2021-06-28 Thread Chris Guiver
I booted Ubuntu impish daily (live) on the box the bug is reported under (a box
I use for QA-test installs)
- hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 5gb, nvidia quadro nvs 290)

Adding the tor-browser package will result in a usable tor browser just
as teward outlines.

This however does not occur with
- Lubuntu (installed on my primary box or the QA-test install used in bug
report)
- Kubuntu (yesterday's impish daily run live on same box where Ubuntu works for
me)

(I'll attempt to see if Xubuntu is impacted; it's GTK like Ubuntu; and
edit this comment with details once done)

[Bug 1933894] [NEW] dillo 3.0.5 requires libmbedtls.so.10

2021-06-28 Thread Lachlan A
Public bug reported:

I have just upgraded to 20.04, and now dillo doesn't work.
When I run "dillo" it complains:
dillo: error while loading shared libraries:
libmbedtls.so.10: cannot open shared object file:
No such file or directory

The libmbedtls in my system is now /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-
gnu/libmbedtls.so.12

Running apt-file find libmvedtls.so.10 doesn't tell me a package I can
install to work around this.

I assume that all that is required is to compile dillo from source, but
my understanding is that that would require me to meet all dependencies
manually.

[Bug 1921134] Re: SBAT shim 15.4 release

2021-06-28 Thread Harm van Bakel
After installing shim-15.4-0ubuntu5 and shim-signed-1.40.5+15.4-0ubuntu5
on focal and rebooting, I noticed my /var/log/syslog was being flooded
with the following messages from vboxdrv.sh:

Jun 28 21:33:52 ... vboxdrv.sh[7701]: Enter a password for Secure Boot. It will
be asked again after a reboot.
Jun 28 21:33:52 ... vboxdrv.sh[7701]: Enter the same password again to verify
you have typed it correctly.
Jun 28 21:33:52 ... vboxdrv.sh[7701]: Invalid password
Jun 28 21:33:52 ... vboxdrv.sh[7701]: The Secure Boot key you've entered is not
valid. The password used must be
Jun 28 21:33:52 ... vboxdrv.sh[7701]: between 8 and 16 characters.

It doesn't look like the shim update plays nice with Virtualbox-6.1
installed from the Oracle repo. Reverting back to the focal-updates
version fixes the issue.

[Bug 1933886] Re: tor browser not launching in impish

More development chaos:

I downloaded Tor Browser from upstream directly. This issue is not
reproducible on Upstream Tor Browser, which doesn't use a launcher
mechanism like torbrowser-launcher does.

More digging for me, now...

[Bug 1933886] Re: tor browser not launching in impish

2021-06-28 Thread Thomas Ward
Okay, so, I did some heavy hardcore digging.

The core execution string at the deepest level is something like this:

`$HOME/.local/share/torbrowser/tbb/x86_64/tor-browser_en-
US/Browser/firefox --class "Tor Browser" -profile
$HOME/.local/share/torbrowser/tbb/x86_64/tor-browser_en-
US/Browser/TorBrowser'profile.default "http://cnn.com"`

With this in mind, I tested this on Ubuntu 21.04 direct which has
Wayland and it worked. However, the same Firefox executable failed on
Lubuntu 21.04. I have crash data (attached).

However, this is not an issue with torbrowser-launcher's package,
because all it does is start and execute the `start-tor-browser` shell
file that Tor Browser upstream has provided, which in turn executes its
flavor of Firefox, and that flavor of Firefox crashes.

This is not necessarily an issue in the *package* torbrowser-launcher
but an upstream Tor Browser problem, so I'm going to leave this bug as
Incomplete unless someone can prove it's an issue with the torbrowser-
launcher package.

[Bug 1933889] [NEW] Unmounted SD card does not show it is unmounted

2021-06-28 Thread Rob Frohne
Public bug reported:

Normally, I unmount an SD card by clicking on the little arrow symbol
beside it in the left panel of nautilus. Normally, the little symbol
disappears when I do that. Today, I went to do that, and it is still
there. If I click on it again, it complains "No object for D-Bus
interface." Before first clicking to unmount it, I find it in
/media/username/ but after first clicking to unmount it it is gone from
there, which seems to indicate that it did actually unmount. This is
confusing.

[Bug 1933523] Re: Temporary installer password and key fingerprints are not printed with latest impish daily ISOs

2021-06-28 Thread Dan Bungert
Hi @Frank,

So I looked into this a bit, and with some feedback help from mwhudson,
I see that we attempt to print the ssh info. Presumably this isn't
going in the place you're looking, however.

Something that changed relatively recently was that we no longer have
cloud-init handle setting the temp password of the installer user.

Is that how you get the ssh key / installer user password historically? From
the cloud-init output? Some message like
'Above you will find SSH host keys and a random password set for the
`installer` user'

[Bug 1933888] [NEW] Login screen displays unknown user when coming back from blank screen

2021-06-28 Thread Ellis Michael
Public bug reported:

After updating to Ubuntu 21.04, sometimes after my screen is blanked and
locked automatically and I wake it up, the login screen doesn't show my
name or picture. It just shows a generic new user photo. If I enter my
password, the spinning circle appears next to the password text box and
gets stuck that way indefinitely. If instead I press Esc twice, I get
back to a login screen with my name and picture and am able to unlock
normally.

The issue doesn't happen all of the time; I think that the longer I
leave my machine idle, the more likely I am to run into it, though.

Here's the issue in the GNOME bug tracker, which advised me to file
here: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gdm/-/issues/709

[Bug 1933887] [NEW] Please drop gudev-sharp-1.0 from the archive

2021-06-28 Thread Bryce Harrington
Public bug reported:

gudev-sharp-1.0 is a gobject wrapper around udev that was required for
banshee and brought in with its MIR in 2010:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gudev-
sharp-1.0/+bug/607291/comments/20

Banshee stopped being included in Ubuntu as of Disco:

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/banshee/+publishinghistory

A gudev-sharp-3.0 was introduced in 2013 and included in Ubuntu.
Unfortunately both gudev-sharp-1.0 and -3.0 provide a binary named
monodoc-gudev-manual, and recently Debian did a no-change rebuild of
gudev-sharp-1.0, which has caused a publication failure:

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gudev-
sharp-1.0/0.1-4.1/+latestbuild/amd64

$ grep Package: gudev-sharp-1.0-0.1/debian/control
Package: libgudev1.0-cil
Package: libgudev1.0-cil-dev
Package: monodoc-gudev-manual

$ grep Package: gudev-sharp-3.0-3.0.0/debian/control
Package: libgudev3.0-cil
Package: libgudev3.0-cil-dev
Package: monodoc-gudev-manual

Nothing actually depends on gudev-sharp-1.0:

$ apt-cache rdepends libgudev1.0-cil-dev
libgudev1.0-cil-dev
Reverse Depends:
$ apt-cache rdepends libgudev1.0-cil
libgudev1.0-cil
Reverse Depends:
  libgudev1.0-cil-dev
$ apt-cache rdepends monodoc-gudev-manual
monodoc-gudev-manual
Reverse Depends:

Please go ahead and remove gudev-sharp-1.0's binary packages and source
package from impish and blacklist them from syncing back in from Debian.

(Note, near as I can tell gudev-sharp-3.0 can go too, it also seems
entirely unused by anything, however the problem at hand can be resolved
by just removing one or the other.)

[Bug 1933886] Re: tor browser not launching in impish

2021-06-28 Thread Chris Guiver
Booted the focal QA-test install on the same box; performed the same
`apt install` to install tor-browser on focal, and after the "establish
connection" a tor browser window opens & remains open.

The issue occurs only in impish; has existed at least 3 weeks but may
have been a few weeks beyond that also.

If dating when issue occurs is helpful; I could search back in #ubuntu-
news (IRC) for mention of it; but may not be much more accurate than 3-5
(maybe 6) weeks

[Bug 1933886] [NEW] tor browser not launching in impish

2021-06-28 Thread Chris Guiver
Public bug reported:

Trying to use tor-browser has the program open, then close but is
unusable.

this issue has existed for a few weeks (3 weeks+?) on my primary box (impish).
I don't trust facebook, and use tor-browser to access fb to post UWN notice on
my local Tuesday morning most weeks, and have thus resorted to using another
box (focal setup) where it works last 3+ weeks.

The login & post takes 2-3 mins max so I've not ignored issue.

I tried adding tor-browser to this recent QA-test install (impish),
expecting it to work; alas I get the same issue here I have for awhile
on my primary box. Using a focal (daily) install does NOT have this
issue.

I believe the issue is a problem only in IMPISH.

** EXPECTED RESULTS

I expect tor-browser to start, establish connection & remain open on
clicking in menu

** ACTUAL RESULTS

Tor browser opens at menu, establish connection dialog then it closes
and cannot be used

** ADDITIONAL blurb

No CRASH file exists in /var/crash/

This is a clean QA-test install of Lubuntu impish (maybe a few days old;
I forget). The only change made was monitor settings adjustment (my
screen setup differs to the default).

[Bug 1933402] Re: net card set VF and altname display blurred character

2021-06-28 Thread dann frazier
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
- When running with the HWE kernel (5.4 didn't support altnames), altnames
containing garbage (uninitialized memory) may get assigned to a NIC. This is
100% reproducible on arm64.
+ When running with the HWE kernel (5.4 didn't support altnames), altnames
containing garbage (uninitialized memory) may get assigned to a NIC. This is
100% reproducible on arm64. The upstream commit message suggests that this has
been seen to cause segfaults.

  [Fix]
There's a one liner upstream fix that simply initializes a variable:

https://github.com/systemd/systemd/commit/61fd7d6720c562c88ab79062ff8d131e5e3c7b1b

  [What Could Go Wrong]
- TBD
+ The fix itself is innocuous - just initializing a variable to NULL. So the
real risk here would seem to be limited to the common risks in updating a core
package in the Ubuntu distribution.

systemd doesn't use iproute2 tooling to set the altnames, it sets them
directly with netlink.

what's the output from udevadm info for one of the affected interfaces?
e.g.

[Bug 1932990] Re: cannot create user data directory: /opt/appserver/snap/chromium/1646: Permission denied

2021-06-28 Thread Ray Kiddy
I am investigating whether I can fix the error by using an option,
'--user-data-dir=/tmp', when I launch the chromiumdriver.

First, snap has made the use of this simple tool, chromiumdriver, much
more complex.

Second, I have tried to uninstall the snap version of the tool and I
cannot now install a non-snap version. Somehow snap has soured the soup.

If it is going to cause these kinds of problems, I am certainly not
going to be trying to use snap for other tools unless I have to. If the
install requirements are very complex, such as with installing
certificates, snap is a good thing. But when the install process is
simple, one should not use snap? Is that the solution?

Would outline atomics solve this rr issue?

[Bug 1933880] [NEW] systemd-logind crash when suspend with nvidia-suspend.service masked, bringing session down with it

2021-06-28 Thread Ratchanan Srirattanamet
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
1. Run `sudo apt install nvidia-driver-465`. Then, without a need for a
restart, run `sudo apt autoremove nvidia-driver-465`.
2. Leaving the terminal open, suspend the machine.

Expected behavior: the machine suspend successfully and can be woken up
successfully.
Actual behavior: the machine doesn't suspend. It either:
- hang with no respond other than SysRq+REISUB (or maybe network, but I didn't
test), or
- return you back to the login screen. Upon logging in, you'll notice that the
terminal you opened is gone.

Upon further inspection (on a session that doesn't hang), it's been
found that X server died with:

Fatal server error:
[66.422] (EE) systemd-logind disappeared (stopped/restarted?)

And checking journal for systemd-logind log, it said:

Error during inhibitor-delayed operation (already returned success to
client): Unit nvidia-suspend.service is masked.

before the new process takes it place.

The system is Ubuntu 20.04, X.org session.

[Bug 1898601] Re: 'ubuntu-drivers --gpgpu install' installs a lot of unnecessary packages, including a full desktop environment on Ubuntu Server

2021-06-28 Thread Jeff Lane
When can this be finally pulled back at least as far as Focal? We are
not going to be doing nVidia testing on Bionic, so that task can be
dropped I think, unless it's worthwhile, but for Focal - Hirsute, this
would be very helpful to cut down on the amount of stuff being
installed, as well as speed up installation time.

[Bug 1933879] [NEW] libc6-lse does not replace ld.so with LSE enabled version

2021-06-28 Thread Kyle Huey
Public bug reported:

When installing libc6-lse on AArch64 (tested on focal and an AWS
Graviton 2) the libc, pthreads, etc used by programs on the system are
replaced with the LSE enabled versions. This is not, however, true of
ld.so, despite an LSE enabled version of ld.so being included in
libc6-lse. As far as I can tell this is because the other libraries are
all substituted through some dynamic linker magic (that I don't
understand), but ld.so's location is fixed by the PT_INTERP header
compiled into every binary on the system, and libc6-lse doesn't e.g.
symlink that path to the new ld.so.

This is a problem for porting rr (https://rr-project.org/) to AArch64.
The old-style exclusive load/store atomics are inherently non-
deterministic and cannot be handled by rr. And not replacing ld.so with
an LSE version means every program contains code that can execute the
old-style atomics (in practice only programs with threads actually
trigger that codepath in ld.so, but that's still most interesting
programs).

 Status: New

This is because I forgot to use sudo to do the install

ubuntu-drivers can do somethings as a non-privileged driver but other
things (install) requires root escalation.

ubuntu-drivers should either always require root via sudo, or "ubuntu-
drivers install" should do a user check and exit with a simple helpful
message like "You must use sudo when installing drivers".

SRU Justification

[Bug 1933724] Re: Screen goes blank after login to Wayland session (Aspeed graphics)

2021-06-28 Thread MichaelE
Using "ubuntu" at log-in did not solve it.
A full power-cycle of the server did now resolve it. Before I did only reboots.
Looks like the BMC/Aspeed required a full power off to reset properly.
Ticket can be closed, please.

[Bug 1930188] Re: Acer Aspire 5 sound driver issues

2021-06-28 Thread Bijay Shah
I just tested linux-image-unsigned-5.13.0-1005-oem after enabling focal-
purposed and can confirm the fix is merged there, all relevant fixes are
working fine.

I also noticed one more thing that the microphone boost in alsamixer is
untied to microphone volume now. Can change volume seperately and
increase/decrease boost separately really glad about this one as well.

Let me know if I should update the tag to 'verification-done-focal'. The
kernel version where the fix has landed seems very far off from ubuntu
current one, guess it will take very long to arrive officially.

Also, let me know about if this thread will remain non-closed till fixes
of both pulseaudio and kernel arrives officially in stable release this
way I will have somewhere to keep track.

[Bug 1791958] Re: iptables-restore is missing -w option

2021-06-28 Thread Andreas Hasenack
+1 for a backport, I don't think 1.6.2 is suitable for an SRU,
specifically about one change I noticed with test packages that I think
can break existing firewall scripts.

The locking code is shared between tools, so in 1.6.2, not only do we
get iptables-{save,restore} with -w support, but iptables itself changes
behavior.

When a lock is held, this is the current behavior in bionic:
root@b1-iptables-restore-wait-lock:~# time iptables -L
Another app is currently holding the xtables lock; still -9s 0us time ahead to
have a chance to grab the lock...
Another app is currently holding the xtables lock; still -19s 0us time ahead to
have a chance to grab the lock...
Another app is currently holding the xtables lock; still -29s 0us time ahead to
have a chance to grab the lock...

Two things:
- there is an implied -w with no value, meaning infinite wait. Perhaps
surprising, perhaps not.
- the time countdown is negative (bug)

In 1.6.2 and later, we have:
root@b1-iptables-restore-wait-lock:~# time iptables -L
Another app is currently holding the xtables lock. Perhaps you want to use the
-w option?

real0m0.003s

Focal:
root@f1:~# time iptables -L
Another app is currently holding the xtables lock. Perhaps you want to use the
-w option?

real0m0.003s
user0m0.004s
sys 0m0.000s
root@f1:~# iptables --version
iptables v1.8.4 (legacy)

It exits immediately. I can see this breaking existing firewall scripts that
were up to now relying on the lock even without knowing it. They would be
working with the bionic version, perhaps hitting the lock a few times, but with
the updated version, as soon as the lock is hit, iptables exits. This means the
script would have to be changed to add -w [n] to all iptables invocations, and
I think that's unexpected for an update to an LTS release.

[Bug 1931301] Re: NIC unavailable after suspend to RAM

2021-06-28 Thread Dan Streetman
> Trying to ifconfig it down/up results in:
> SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such device

that likely means the kernel driver had some problem waking the device
back up, but there's no dmesg attached to the bug so i don't know. This
is probably a bug in the 'alx' kernel driver (or, problem with the
hardware), not network-manager.
