[Bug 1938242] Re: do-release-upgrade fail

2021-07-27 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command only once, as it
will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1938242

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

(I've changed status to incomplete; you can return status to 'New' once
the apport-collect has been executed, but note it looks like you're
trying to release-upgrade a xenial system, and xenial is past it's EOL
state except for ESM supported packages)

[Bug 1938195] Re: Configuration for eGPU removed on update

2021-07-27 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Judging by the top of the config file it sounds like the Nvidia driver
writing and overwriting it. There was an update to nvidia-graphics-
drivers-460 on 21 July.

In theory this is what /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/ is for, to add custom
configs that other packages won't touch. But I don't know if spreading
the nvidia config across multiple files with potentially duplicate
sections would work.

[Bug 1938238] [NEW] Translation: Possible errors in original text

2021-07-27 Thread Arve Eriksson
Public bug reported:

In translating messages using Launchpad, I've come across references to
a "Block num" key (as well as "Block caps"). I have never seen or heard
about such keys before, and will assume they refer to Num Lock and Caps
Lock respectively - I have checked every keyboard and laptop I have

original text and make corrections if necessary.

[Bug 1938234] Re: Sync macaulay2 1.18+ds-1~exp2 (universe) from Debian experimental (main)

It would be nice to have the latest version of Macaulay2 in impish, but
with the short window between the projected release of bullseye (Aug.

[Bug 1938234] [NEW] Sync macaulay2 1.18+ds-1~exp2 (universe) from Debian experimental (main)

2021-07-27 Thread Doug Torrance
Public bug reported:

Please sync macaulay2 1.18+ds-1~exp2 (universe) from Debian experimental
(main)

Changelog entries since current impish version 1.17.1+ds-2:

macaulay2 (1.18+ds-1~exp2) experimental; urgency=medium

  * debian/gbp.conf
- Set default debian-branch to debian/master.
  * debian/patches/hardening.patch
- New patch; Don't override -fstack-protector-strong from dpkg-buildflags.
  * debian/patches/fix-visualize-firefox.patch
- Switch from Forwarded to Applied-Upstream.
  * debian/patches/reproducible-tvalues.patch
- New patch; sort files in d directory when making tvalues.m2. Otherwise,
  tvalues.m2 is not reproducible.
  * debian/patches/skip-failing-core-tests.patch
- Skip core-tests.m2.
  * debian/patches/skip-failing-package-tests.patch
- Skip new failing tests:
  + check(8, "DiffAlg")
  + check(7, "MultiprojectiveVarieties")
  + check(3, "NumericalImplicitization")
  + check(8, "NumericalImplicitization")
  + check(0, "Topcom")
- Add missing Bug field.
  * debian/salsa-ci.yml
- Allow reprotest to fail in Salsa pipeline.
  * debian/scripts/generate-examples.m2
- Cache new failing examples:
  + GraphicalModelsMLE::solverMLE(...,RealPrecision=>...)
  + MultiprojectiveVarieties::EmbeddedProjectiveVariety ===>
EmbeddedProjectiveVariety
  + SimplicialDecomposability::isSheddingVertex
  + SpecialFanoFourfolds::toGrass(EmbeddedProjectiveVariety)
  + SRdeformations::complement(Complex)
- Add generated examples to debian/examples.
- Set AuxiliaryFiles and CacheExampleOutput options for affected packages
  in debian/patches/use-cached-examples.patch.
- Don't reload package when generating examples unless necessary. The
  Macaulay2Doc examples were really slowing down the script -- now we only
  need to wait for the first one.
- Improve error handling; only raise an error if we have extra .out files.

macaulay2 (1.18+ds-1~exp1) experimental; urgency=medium

  * debian/control
- Add libmpfi-dev and libtbb-dev to Build-Depends; needed for new
  features added upstream.
- Remove imagemagick from Suggests; no longer required by the
  Graphs package as it now uses xdg-open to open generated images.
  * debian/copyright
- Remove paragraph from Cygwin files that have been removed from
  source.
- Add/update paragraphs for new/modified packages.
  * debian/examples
- Add cached examples generated by d/scripts/generate-examples.m2.
  * debian/macaulay2-common.info
- New file; use dh_installinfo to install info files instead of
  dh_install. This way, we can more easily support builds with
  "nodoc" in DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS.
  * debian/macaulay2-common.lintian-overrides
- Add package-contains-documentation-outside-usr-share-doc
  override for new file.
  * debian/patches
- Refresh for new upstream release.
- Remove patches applied or otherwise made unnecessary upstream.
  + dont-capture-check-core-32-bit.patch
  + dont-capture-diffalg-tests.patch
  + smaller-points-examples.patch
  + use-debian-applications.patch
  * debian/patches/fix-visualize-firefox.patch
- New patch; fix Visualize package in Firefox (symlinks to assets
  weren't working).
  * debian/patches/remove-build-paths-from-docs
- Remove patch; we now cache examples that were causing
  reproducibility issues.
  * debian/patches/skip-failing-{core,package}-tests
- Stop skipping tests that have been fixed upstream and start
  skipping new tests that have caused build errors.
- Better document which tests go with which upstream issues.
  * debian/patches/use-cached-examples.patch
- New patch replacing use-canned-examples.patch. Set affected
  packages to use cached examples that are generated by
  d/scripts/generate-examples.patch.
  * debian/README.md
- Update descriptions of packages in Suggests.
  * debian/rules
- Export MakeDocumentation variable to support builds with
  "nodoc" in DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS.
- Set installation directory for Emacs files; previously this
  was done in use-dh-elpa.patch.
- Move cached examples generated by d/scripts/generate-examples.m2
  into the build directory so that they may be properly installed
  and then clean up afterwards.
- Use $(MAKE) instead of explicitly calling make.
  * debian/salsa-ci.yml
- Add Salsa pipelines config file.
  * debian/scripts/generate-examples.m2
- New script; generate examples for the documentation for certain
  cases which have been known to cause build errors. Previously,
  we used canned examples, but cached examples are treated just like
  standard examples that are generated during build.
  * debian/scripts/m2-get-orig-source.sh
- Add support for version numbers containing "-rc".
- Explicitly call GNU awk, as it is necessary for the script

[Bug 1856294] Re: programs in "Installed (local or obsolete)"

2021-07-27 Thread luke
This also affects me, on Ubuntu 20.04.2 with synaptic 0.84.6ubuntu5, and
on more than one machine.

Unfortunately I can't reproduce it reliably; core packages just appear
in the 'local or obsolete' tab from time to time, and stay there. On one
machine it is network-manager and pulseaudio as in the original post
above, but on another it is:

libc-bin
libc-dev-bin
libc6
libc6-dbg
libc6-dev
libc6-i386
locales

Then as of today also:

ubuntu-advantage-tools

Just as a check I ran 'apt list ?obsolete' to see whether apt was at
fault, but that listed only genuinely local packages.

Sorry the command was: "journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt". I truncated it
accidently. The file was renamed to FDP.txt.

[Bug 1938230] [NEW] thunderbird encrypts drafts without being asked for

2021-07-27 Thread Henning Sprang
Public bug reported:

Since having upgraded to ubuntu 21.4 yesterday, suddenly all drafts are
being encrypted.

I need to to keep editing my drafts also on a mobile device where I do
not have and do not want to have my opengpgp key.

I did search the config/settings area and the whole web and did not find
how to disable that.

autoencryptDrafts is false for that account.

What can I do?

[Bug 1938228] [NEW] installer says it will format when i specify not to format

2021-07-27 Thread gregrwm
Public bug reported:

i'm running the installer on the Kubuntu 20.04 iso downloaded today and
dated 2021-2-9. it's presenting me the following dialog:

Write changes to disks?

If you continue, the changes listed below will be written to the
disks. Otherwise, you will be able to make further changes manually.

WARNING: This will destroy all data on any partitions you have
removed as well as on the partitions that are going to be formatted.

The partition tables of the following devices are changed: SCSI1
(0,0,0)(sda)

The following partitions are going to be formatted: partition #1 of
SCSI1 (0,0,0)(sda) as ext3

i carefully chose neither to change the size of my partition, nor to
format it, and up until the above message, the installer seemed to have
accepted these choices.

(1) if it is actually going to honor my choice not to format, then the
message is wrong. Or if it's actually going to format, then it's not
honoring my choice.

(2) if it is actually going to honor my choice not to change the size
of the partition, nor create nor delete any partition, then it shouldn't
need to change the partition table. So again either the message, or the
ensuing action, is incorrect.

(3)  since i'm choosing not to format a partition, i shouldn't be
presented with a menu of how to format it. Presenting the menu makes
sense once i choose to check/tick the box to format the partition. How
about put the checkbox to the left of the menu, and enable the menu when
the checkbox gets checked/ticked.

I'm aware of that as noted in my updates to the description, but that
doesn't actually fix this inside unprivileged containers, which is the
only place I can reproduce this.

Please provide a full journal log from a boot on your VPS that
reproduces this

[Bug 1930738] Re: network configuration failed on reboot

2021-07-27 Thread Dan Streetman
Deepika, Frank, is this happening for you inside an unprivileged
container, or some other environment?

I'm able to reproduce this in a container, but it appears still broken
with upstream systemd, so I'm confused by Frank's comment 2. Also, it
isn't intermittent at all for me, so maybe you're seeing some other
problem.

  any clear bug-related reason to change that behavior.

  **Issue details**
  I configured 255 IPv4 address (including primary IP) using netplan but when
the server restart, it time out on configuring the interface. If I limit total
IPv4 addresses to 181 or less, it works. But anything larger than 181 fails.

  Below are my configurations and error logs.

  **/etc/netplan/10-ens3.yaml**

[Bug 1938209] [NEW] qapt freezes on setting up mysql-apt-config package

2021-07-27 Thread Lyubomir
Public bug reported:

To reproduce download it from here: https://dev.mysql.com/downloads/
(select "MySQL APT Repository") to download mysql-apt-config. Apparently
when launched with dpkg -i there is a confugure menu shown with some
options to select before clicking "Ok" in order to proceed. QApt has
locked dpkg and some DbDriver config.dat although i resolved these
issues.

[Bug 1925261] Re: memory leak on AWS kernels when using docker

2021-07-27 Thread Paul Friel
Kleber,

I finally had some time to narrow down what commit fixes this issue for
us today, below is the commit:

commit 7514c0362ffdd9af953ae94334018e7356b31313
Merge: 9322c47b21b9 428fc0aff4e5
Author: Linus Torvalds
Date:   Sat Sep 5 13:28:40 2020 -0700

Merge branch 'akpm' (patches from Andrew)

Merge misc fixes from Andrew Morton:
 "19 patches.

  Subsystems affected by this patch series: MAINTAINERS, ipc, fork,
  checkpatch, lib, and mm (memcg, slub, pagemap, madvise, migration,
  hugetlb)"

* emailed patches from Andrew Morton :
  include/linux/log2.h: add missing () around n in roundup_pow_of_two()
  mm/khugepaged.c: fix khugepaged's request size in collapse_file
  mm/hugetlb: fix a race between hugetlb sysctl handlers
  mm/hugetlb: try preferred node first when alloc gigantic page from cma
  mm/migrate: preserve soft dirty in remove_migration_pte()
  mm/migrate: remove unnecessary is_zone_device_page() check
  mm/rmap: fixup copying of soft dirty and uffd ptes
  mm/migrate: fixup setting UFFD_WP flag
  mm: madvise: fix vma user-after-free
  checkpatch: fix the usage of capture group ( ... )
  fork: adjust sysctl_max_threads definition to match prototype
  ipc: adjust proc_ipc_sem_dointvec definition to match prototype
  mm: track page table modifications in __apply_to_page_range()
  MAINTAINERS: IA64: mark Status as Odd Fixes only
  MAINTAINERS: add LLVM maintainers
  MAINTAINERS: update Cavium/Marvell entries
  mm: slub: fix conversion of freelist_corrupted()
  mm: memcg: fix memcg reclaim soft lockup
  memcg: fix use-after-free in uncharge_batch

I also verified that the latest available Ubuntu 18.04 kernel as of
today (5.4.0-1054.57~18.04.1) still hits this memory leak issue for us.

Please let me know if you need any further information from us to
hopefully get this fix pulled into the supported Ubuntu 18.04 AWS
kernel.

Thanks,
Paul

  container, which is not appropriate for SRU for this bug, as I don't see
  any clear bug-related reason to change that behavior.

  Additionally this requires the typo fix from commit
  4934ba2121d76229659939e19ab7d70a89446629

  **Issue details**
  I configured 255 IPv4 address (including primary IP) using netplan but when
the server restart, it time out on configuring the interface. If I limit total
IPv4 addresses to 181 or less, it works. But anything larger than 181 fails.

  Below are my configurations and error logs.

  The above config works if I run `netplan apply` but when I reboot, it does
not work.

[Bug 1938013] Re: 4.15.0-151 is freezing intel 5th gen ThinkPad (T450)

2021-07-27 Thread Nick White
For Stefan Bader(smb)

>For this I would need someone volunteering to try the kernel I prepared
at >https://launchpad.net/~smb/+archive/ubuntu/bionic (still needs to
finish building some arches). >This is not a officially signed kernel,
so it only should be tried if secure-boot is not used or >can be
disabled.

Tried this kernel on my Entroware system as per the initial reporter in
this thread(Nick White). Bad news the system hung with just the mouse
pointer showing prior to displaying the login screen. kern.log has lots
of "^@" after dealing with the usblp. On the 147 kernel, the next thing
after usblp is "usbcore: registered new interface driver usblp" and then
Bluetooth. Appreciate that start up sequences may vary due to systemd.
Nothing new in /var/crash.

[Bug 1938207] [NEW] ubuntu-advantage-tools.postinst and cloud-id are not robust against failure

2021-07-27 Thread Robie Basak
Public bug reported:

As discovered in regression bug 1936833:

 1) "cloud-id" can sometimes crash; perhaps it should return something
more sensible if a cloud-id is not available

 2) ubuntu-advantage-tools.postinst might crash if cloud-id crashes;
perhaps it should be generally resilient against cloud-id crashing,
instead of trying to predict if it will work or not (additionally the
current prediction method seems to be based on an internal
implementation detail that might change)

I wonder if one or both of these things can be improved. For example,
define the failure behaviour of cloud-id when it cannot function, and
have the postinst test for that, and further, adjust the postinst to be
robust against _any_ failure of cloud-id.

[Bug 1938208] [NEW] No CI testing for the case that cloud-init is installed but not in use

2021-07-27 Thread Robie Basak
Public bug reported:

As discovered in regression bug 1936833, current CI doesn't cover the
case that the cloud-init package is installed but not in use. In
general, it's acceptable for _any_ package to be installed but not in
use, and behaviour should never break because of this. Perhaps this
needs adding to your CI test matrix, and or the test plan in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuAdvantageToolsUpdates adjusted to verify
this.

[Bug 1935034] Re: Update mpt3sas Driver to 38.100.00.00 for Ubuntu 21.10 and 20.04

2021-07-27 Thread Tim Gardner
Suganath Prabu - You appear to be missing some scaffolding patches. At
least 1ea18ac2e5f703e5648f663412ff6abab2f41def ("scsi: sbitmap: Export
sbitmap_weight") and c548e62bcf6adc7066ff201e9ecc88e536dd8890 ("scsi:
sbitmap: Move allocation hint into sbitmap").

Perhaps you should attempt to apply this list of commits yourself, then
submit a pull request.
