Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command only once, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal: apport-collect 1938242 When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu- bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs. (I've changed status to incomplete; you can return status to 'New' once the apport-collect has been executed, but note it looks like you're trying to release-upgrade a xenial system, and xenial is past it's EOL state except for ESM supported packages) ** Changed in: ubuntu-release-upgrader (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1938242 Title: do-release-upgrade fail To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-release-upgrader/+bug/1938242/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1938195] Re: Configuration for eGPU removed on update
Judging by the top of the config file it sounds like the Nvidia driver writing and overwriting it. There was an update to nvidia-graphics- drivers-460 on 21 July. In theory this is what /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/ is for, to add custom configs that other packages won't touch. Set affected packages to use cached examples that are generated by d/scripts/generate-examples.patch. * debian/README.md - Update descriptions of packages in Suggests. * debian/rules - Export MakeDocumentation variable to support builds with "nodoc" in DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS. - Set installation directory for Emacs files; previously this was done in use-dh-elpa.patch. - Move cached examples generated by d/scripts/generate-examples.m2 into the build directory so that they may be properly installed and then clean up afterwards. - Use $(MAKE) instead of explicitly calling make. * debian/salsa-ci.yml - Add Salsa pipelines config file. * debian/scripts/generate-examples.m2 - New script; generate examples for the documentation for certain cases which have been known to cause build errors. Previously, we used canned examples, but cached examples are treated just like standard examples that are generated during build. * debian/scripts/m2-get-orig-source.sh - Add support for version numbers containing "-rc". - Explicitly call GNU awk, as it is necessary for the script

[Bug 1938228] [NEW] installer says it will format when i specify not to format
Public bug reported: i'm running the installer on the Kubuntu 20.04 iso downloaded today and dated 2021-2-9. it's presenting me the following dialog: Write changes to disks? If you continue, the changes listed below will be written to the disks. Otherwise, you will be able to make further changes manually. WARNING: This will destroy all data on any partitions you have removed as well as on the partitions that are going to be formatted. The partition tables of the following devices are changed: SCSI1 (0,0,0)(sda) The following partitions are going to be formatted: partition #1 of SCSI1 (0,0,0)(sda) as ext3 i carefully chose neither to change the size of my partition, nor to format it, and up until the above message, the installer seemed to have accepted these choices. (1) if it is actually going to honor my choice not to format, then the message is wrong. Or if it's actually going to format, then it's not honoring my choice. (2) if it is actually going to honor my choice not to change the size of the partition, nor create nor delete any partition, then it shouldn't need to change the partition table. So again either the message, or the ensuing action, is incorrect. (3) since i'm choosing not to format a partition, i shouldn't be presented with a menu of how to format it. Presenting the menu makes sense once i choose to check/tick the box to format the partition. How about put the checkbox to the left of the menu, and enable the menu when the checkbox gets checked/ticked. ** Affects: partman-basicfilesystems (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1938228 Title: installer says it will format when i specify not to format To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/partman-basicfilesystems/+bug/1938228/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Deepika, Frank, is this happening for you inside an unprivileged container, or some other environment? [Bug 1930738] Re: network configuration failed on reboot
** Description changed: [impact] number of statically defined addresses for an interface in systemd- networkd is limited [test case] Note: this only occurs in a container; this is not reproducable in a VM or bare metal. Configure netplan with the attached yaml file (TBD: attach) enable debug for systemd-networkd reboot the system and check the journalctl output to see if any errors were reported for systemd-networkd, e.g.: $ journalctl -b -u systemd-networkd | grep 'could not set' Jul 23 13:16:52 lp1930738-b systemd-networkd[189]: eth0: could not set address: Connection timed out ... - Note that a restart of systemd-networkd may successfully complete - setting up all addresses, so the journal should be checked for errors - instead of only checking for configured addresses + Note that systemd may be able to actually correctly set all addresses, + but fails to communicate with netlink to determine the addresses are + set, so just checking the output of 'ip a' is not enough, the systemd- + networkd debug log should be checked [regression potential] possible failure to correctly apply all statically defined interfaces [scope] this is needed in f and b this is fixed upstream with commits 628f08b66d43d1947b03419409d817d28eb47321 and PR 16982 which are included in v246 and later, so this is fixed in h and later [other info] I elided upstream commit d31f33e3c9f6ea3bdc873ee52f4398edbec74527 as that changes the udev-related behavior of networkd-manager inside a container, which is not appropriate for SRU for this bug, as I don't see any clear bug-related reason to change that behavior. Additionally this requires the typo fix from commit 4934ba2121d76229659939e19ab7d70a89446629 [original description] This issue was reported at https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/17012 **Used distribution** > Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS **systemd version the issue has been seen with** > 245.4-4ubuntu3.2 **Issue details** I configured 255 IPv4 address (including primary IP) using netplan but when the server restart, it time out on configuring the interface. [Bug 1938013] Re: 4.15.0-151 is freezing intel 5th gen ThinkPad (T450)
For Stefan Bader(smb) >For this I would need someone volunteering to try the kernel I prepared at >https://launchpad.net/~smb/+archive/ubuntu/bionic (still needs to finish building some arches). >This is not a officially signed kernel, so it only should be tried if secure-boot is not used or >can be disabled. Tried this kernel on my Entroware system as per the initial reporter in this thread(Nick White). Bad news the system hung with just the mouse pointer showing prior to displaying the login screen. kern.log has lots of "^@" after dealing with the usblp. On the 147 kernel, the next thing after usblp is "usbcore: registered new interface driver usblp" and then Bluetooth. Appreciate that start up sequences may vary due to systemd. [Bug 1938207] [NEW] ubuntu-advantage-tools.postinst and cloud-id are not robust against failure
Public bug reported: As discovered in regression bug 1936833: 1) "cloud-id" can sometimes crash; perhaps it should return something more sensible if a cloud-id is not available 2) ubuntu-advantage-tools.postinst might crash if cloud-id crashes; perhaps it should be generally resilient against cloud-id crashing, instead of trying to predict if it will work or not (additionally the current prediction method seems to be based on an internal implementation detail that might change) I wonder if one or both of these things can be improved. For example, define the failure behaviour of cloud-id when it cannot function, and have the postinst test for that, and further, adjust the postinst to be robust against _any_ failure of cloud-id. ** Affects: ubuntu-advantage-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1938207 Title: ubuntu-advantage-tools.postinst and cloud-id are not robust against failure To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-advantage-tools/+bug/1938207/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1938208] [NEW] No CI testing for the case that cloud-init is installed but not in use
Public bug reported: As discovered in regression bug 1936833, current CI doesn't cover the case that the cloud-init package is installed but not in use. In general, it's acceptable for _any_ package to be installed but not in use, and behaviour should never break because of this.
