[Bug 1922637] Re: held broken packages trying to upgrade from Groovy to Hirsute (Xubuntu, MATE)
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected hirsute ** Description changed: I have a VM that I've upgraded across several releases. It was originally installed with Xubuntu; I forget what release. It's been running Groovy (20.10) for a few months, and I recently (re)installed MATE. I ran "update-manager -d" to upgrade to Hirsute beta. It failed and suggested the problem might be transient. But trying again a day or 2 later failed as well. This time I checked the logs, and main.log shows complaints about held broken packages. I don't currently have any broken packages (according to Synaptic), and "apt-mark showhold" displays nothing, so I assume this is a packaging problem related to the upgrade. [Bug 1938626] [NEW] PPS API broken
Public bug reported: The kernel PPS API appears to be broken. I have a serial GPS with PPS attached to /dev/ttyS4. If I use gpsd to create /dev/pps0, gpsd fails to see PPS data. If I disable gpsd and create /dev/pps0 with ldattach, any app or tool run against ttyS4 works fine and does see the CTS transitions every second, i.e. gpsmon and ppscheck. Anything run against pps0 fails, i.e. ppstest, ppswatch. ntpd gets data from ttyS4 but not pps0. There are some issues with stock apparmor with gpsd and ntpd, but I have solved those. [Bug 1938623] Re: Audio output & input routes to usb-c hub (where audio jack is disconnected) instead of laptop speakers
Realizing this likely has more to do with the lack of driver support for usb-c hubs on linux - per pulseaudio's documentation ( https://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/PulseAudio/Documentation/User/Modules/#module- switch-on-port-available ) : "# module-switch-on-connect Earlier this module was required to automatically switch to a newly plugged in USB sound card, but nowadays USB sound cards have higher priority than internal sound cards, so they automatically become the default sink (unless you have manually configured the default sink to be something else) and the need for this module is greatly reduced." [Bug 1915117] Re: [Regression] Audio card [8086:9d71] not detected after upgrade from linux 5.4 to 5.8
I have the same audio card [8086:9d71] on Lenovo Yoga C930. Audio was working on Focal with 5.4 kernel with snd_hda_intel driver, but the microphone was not. I managed to get it working by following this guide: https://gist.github.com/crojewsk/4e6382bfb0dbfaaf60513174211f29cb The biggest pain point for me is that Ubuntu kernels have CONFIG_SND_SOC_INTEL_SKYLAKE_HDAUDIO_CODEC disabled. So I installed `5.11.0-25-generic` HWE kernel sources, turned on that option, and rebuilt the kernel from sources. However, it is tedious to to that every time a kernel update is released. Is it possible to have that option turned on in Ubuntu kernel builds? [Bug 1926918] Re: cannot install libc6-dev, requires old libc6 version
Stumbled upon this problem when trying to install some packages which require build-essential to compile them (sidewinderd and ezthumb to be clear). I'm in the process of shifting my workstations to Ubuntu-based systems and this bug proves to be very annoying. Also sounds like it should actually be fixable pretty easy, just by publishing version 9.2 as 9.4 in focal and bumping the actual 9.3 simultaneously to 9.5 or something. But I'm by no means a dev, so I can't judge whether that would be appropriate... I tried to downgrade libc6, but apt's announcement to remove almost 270 packages doesn't look to healthy I don't want to try this just to reinstall or do some rescue-shenanignas to an otherwise (so far) fine running installation :( sudo apt install libc6=2.31-0ubuntu9.2 Reading package lists... Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. [Bug 1938623] [NEW] Audio output & input routes to usb-c hub (where audio jack is disconnected) instead of laptop speakers
Public bug reported: I'm using Ubuntu 21.04 with an intel tablet and a lenovo usb-c hub that has an audio adapter: See https://linux-hardware.org/?probe=09f8c72d80/ I never have anything hooked into the audio jack on usb-c hub, yet every time I plug my tablet into the usb-c hub the sound output switches to the usb-c hub instead of staying routed to the tablet speakers. I then have to go either into settings or use a sound output extension to switch it back to the speakers. This issue does not happen when using Windows 10 - audio stays routed through the tablet speakers - my guess is that it goes a step further and detects whether an audio jack actually has a cable plugged in or not. What package handles determining default audio routing for Ubuntu 21.04 / Gnome 3.38.5? I'd like to file a bug about this / possibly see if I can help make the defaults work better. See also OS confusion about default audio sink - pulse: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1231935/os-confusion-about-default- audio-sink-pulse ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1938623 Title: Audio output & input routes to usb-c hub (where audio jack is disconnected) instead of laptop speakers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1938623/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
