[Bug 1938537] Re: Potential reverts of 4.19.y stable changes in 18.04

2021-08-04 Thread Stefan Bader
As mentioned in the description these are reverts to the state before
based on code review. Verified that those are included in the kernel.

Re: [Bug 1938735] Re: Can't insert a row into a OpenOffice calc file

2021-08-04 Thread sheepscrossing
I sent the file with the initial bug report, but it's 842 rows and 9 columns.
I can add a row to the bottom but when I insert a row either before or after in
the body of it it crashes when I save it. Actually I can only cut and paste the
total at the bottom to make more space for rows, I can't use the insert feature
at all. You'll notice in the file that I sent that there is a row at the bottom
that's out of order. That was the only way I could add it; cutting and pasting
the total several rows down to make more room. Usually it's an empty row.
If I run the journalctl  command  there is a ton of data there I guess because
I've been having a freeze problem after I suspend the laptop by shutting the
lid (I have reported that bug also bug: #19373210). Do you want me to attach
the output to the bug report?
I have added it here.

Thank you for reporting your issue and helping make Ubuntu better!

I know you said the size of the spreadsheet is 57 KB, but can you tell
me roughly how many rows and columns? When you're inserting a row, is it
just an empty row? Does it happen when you insert an empty row above or
below or doesn't matter? When the crash occurs, what are the
corresponding journalctl logs?

I just tested 6.4.7 that is in focal updates on a fresh focal vm. I
found that no matter how you open the help (F1 or Help->LO Help), it
opens in FF just fine.

So can you please describe the error you see? Perhaps attach a

have a clean install 20.04.2, upgrade debs from updates, turned on proposed

After version 1:3.38.5-1ubuntu2 is installed, reboot the machine, open
the gnome-control-center sound, the speaker is the active output device,
change the volume, the output volume could be changed with UI change,
plug a HDMI monitor, select HDMI audio from UI, adjust the volume from
volume-slider, the output volume could be changed with the volume-slider
change.

Verification done on hirsute.

[Bug 1938864] Re: Software Boutique failes

2021-08-04 Thread Chris Guiver
You filed the bug as related to `ubiquity` or the Ubuntu installer that
installed your system 2021-04-17 (109 days ago). That is the
responsibility of Ubuntu Desktop or Canonical.

Ubuntu-MATE however created and maintains the Software Boutique. I
asked on IRC for an appropriate place and was given
https://github.com/ubuntu-mate/software-boutique which is where Ubuntu-
MATE track issues with their software. I suspect this is the v2 of their
software that isn't available yet for released products. There are no
issues being tracked there so I provided the link
https://github.com/ubuntu-mate/ubuntu-mate-welcome-legacy/issues (which
was the only link until semi-recently or for the 20.04 release (you'll
note issues reported there from this & last year)).

Ubuntu-MATE does not use launchpad for their own software, it's used by
Ubuntu software (and some other flavors). Software Boutique however is
Ubuntu-MATE software.

If you don't wish to use the Ubuntu-MATE bug tracker, I also suggested
you use the Ubuntu-MATE discourse site (see prior comment for link)

From what you pasted, your issue appears to be not with Ubuntu software
but 3rd party sources which is why I suggested support. You mention
`balena-etcher-electron` along with many other packages (and
dependencies) which are not Ubuntu supported as they are 3rd party.
Issues with those packages are tracked on the bug trackers chosen by
their 3rd party creators

[Bug 1924624] Re: After upgrade to kernel 5.8.0-49/50 with Intel Gen7 (Haswell/Ivy Bridge/Bay Trail) graphics a lot of glitches render screen unusable

Judging by the above comments, it's 2 people out of 51. Comments #30 and
#33 are definitely not this bug because that's the wrong hardware
generation. So it would seem the "vast majority" of affected users are
no longer reporting issues.

You can use bug 1928656 to continue the conversation or might want to
open a new bug of your own.

[Bug 1938864] Re: Software Boutique failes

2021-08-04 Thread Robert Pearson
Who is responsible for bugs/errors/mistakes in the code you bundle for a
distro? Bugs can be in the included data as well as the code. Does
anyone take responsibility?

Is the Software Boutique part of Ubuntu 20.04 or part of Ubuntu MATE
20.04.

Response is standard trying to find reason NOT to do anything. Not
helpful.

[Bug 1938958] [NEW] popcon does not submit on focal because it tries to use https

2021-08-04 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Public bug reported:

SUBMITURLS in focal has an https:// URL, which currently does not work.

See https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=991908 for full
details.

The fix (until this will become implemented in a newer popcon version)
is to use:

$ tail -1 /etc/popularity-contest.conf
SUBMITURLS=http://popcon.ubuntu.com/popcon-submit.cgi

[Bug 1938957] [NEW] autopkgtest failure "AssertionError: CanonicalNameDict({'http://xkcd.com/rss.x[101 chars]l')}) != {}"

I don't spot obvious bug reports in Debian or Upstream, and there are no
upstream commits since 2021.7.21. Previous versions were passing ok
both in debian and ubuntu.

Looking at the commits between 2021.06.15, this one caught my eye:

[Bug 1932117] Re: Lots of hisi_qm zombie task slow down system after stress test

2021-08-04 Thread dann frazier
This patch fixes the problem:

From 57ca81245f4db4a0222d545f8f5d4709544c26cf Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001
From: Shukun Tan
Date: Thu, 5 Mar 2020 10:06:21 +0800
Subject: [PATCH] crypto: hisilicon - Use one workqueue per qm instead of per
 qp

Since SEC need not so many workqueues as our test, we just use
one workqueue created by the device driver of QM if necessary,
which will also reduce CPU waste without any throughput decreasing.

Here is some comprehensive documentation: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Add-

mention was deprecated in Firefox 48, released 5 years ago).

[Bug 1938730] Re: GPSD time will jump back 1024 weeks at after week=2180 (23-October-2021)

2021-08-04 Thread Bernd Zeimetz
Hi Marc,

what you can check:

- do the regression tests run trough (failures are ignored at build
time, as its fails sometims on the more "special" architectures, forgot
to enable tests again for bullseye). You are looking for scons check
and the following output.

- if they are not happy, check if the reason is a changed date from 1999
to 2021 or something like that, similar to whats in the diff. quilt
doesn't patch binary files, so I've disabled thoses test in Debian, but
some are left in the patch.

You could also take the upstream source, apply your patch, merge the
current regression test folder and run scons check there, although that
might show some other bugs that were fixed since 3.20.

But in general, if scons check is still happy, chances are good that things are
not badly broken :)

[Bug 1938949] [NEW] autopkgtest failure "DeprecationWarning: The legacy HTTP parser is deprecated."

"""

With a recent upload of nodejs (CVE related, but including more changes
than just that) the autopkgtest of node-websocket-driver fails in
testing when that autopkgtest is run with the binary packages of nodejs
from unstable. It passes when run with only packages from testing. In
tabular form:

   passfail
nodejs from testing12.22.4~dfsg-1
node-websocket-driver from testing0.3.5-1.1
all others from testingfrom testing

I copied some of the output at the bottom of this report. It seems that
the CVE fix deliberately made a parser deprecated, which results in a
*warning* to stderr. The default behavior of autopkgtest is to fail on
output to stderr.
"""

We have nodejs 12.22.4~dfsg-1ubuntu1 in -proposed right now, so with
this clue I'm going to try retriggering with all-proposed to see if it
just needs to go in with the newer nodejs. If that doesn't work, there
is also a newer node-websocket-driver 0.7.4+~cs0.6.7-1 in experimental,
however I wonder if that might only work with nodejs 14. Perhaps a
better alternative would be to modify the 'require' test to allow
stderr, or maybe filter the specific warning?

[Bug 1928954] Re: sssd not using offline credentials even no network available

2021-08-04 Thread Sergio Durigan Junior
Hello Walter,

Thank you for reporting this bug, and apologies for the dealy in getting
back to it. Unfortunately the bug fell through the cracks and our team
is somewhat busy with other stuff.

Anyway, I have finally had the time to try to reproduce this. I set up
a VM with a Samba AD DC + Kerberos auth (server), and an LXD container
acting as a client. Then, after creating a user/principal on the
server, I was able to successfully login with it inside the client (as
expected). With that in place, I brought the network connectivity down
on the client and tried logging in again with the same user. Everything
worked. I also tried doing some research online to see if I could find
similar issues reported against sssd, but came up with nothing.

Given that I could not reproduce the issue, I would like to ask you for
more information about your setup. If you can provide configuration
files for SSSD and you AD DC, that would be great. If you can provide
detailed reproduction steps, that would be even better.

For now, I am going to set this bug's status to Incomplete. When you
provide the requested information, feel free to set it back to New.

Thank you in advance.

back on optimized OS defaults. One of the three (or a combination of
them) resulted in a succeeded 20.04.02 LTS installation. This issue can

[Bug 1938948] [NEW] autopkgtest failure due to timeout on rollup-plugin-node-polyfills

2021-08-04 Thread Bryce Harrington
Public bug reported:

https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/results/autopkgtest-
impish/impish/armhf/n/node-rollup-plugin-node-
polyfills/20210803_074214_72ce1@/log.gz

  12 passing (8s)
  1 failing

  1) rollup-plugin-node-polyfills
   works with zlib.js:
Error: Timeout of 2000ms exceeded. For async tests and hooks, ensure
"done()" is called; if returning a Promise, ensure it resolves.
(/tmp/autopkgtest.aow0wC/autopkgtest_tmp/smokexHbT2p/test/index.js)
  at Test.Runnable._timeoutError
(/usr/share/nodejs/mocha/lib/runnable.js:432:10)

  at Script.runInContext (vm.js:130:18)
  at /tmp/autopkgtest.aow0wC/autopkgtest_tmp/smokexHbT2p/test/index.js:47:16

From the test history, 9.1.1-4 hit similar timeout-driven test failures
and it appears a subsequent re-run of the test with the same trigger
passed. Perhaps the timeout is too tight and could be loosened from
2000ms to, say 1ms?

Looking at debian's test history, it appears to me to also have failures that
resolve on a simple rerun, although can't be certain as there are not links to
logs:
https://tests.reproducible-builds.org/debian/rb-pkg/unstable/amd64/ts-node.html

For now, I'm going to try a couple more re-triggers, but if it continues
failing this way in the future, this may be worth adjusting timeouts
and/or notifying Debian.

[Bug 1938946] [NEW] Sync python-a38 0.1.3-2 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2021-08-04 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Public bug reported:

Please sync python-a38 0.1.3-2 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
  * tests/test_p7m.py:
- tests/data/test.txt.p7m has expired and this test fails,
so just skip it. Upstream has not been updated in 2 years
so it's unlikely this cert will be updated by upstream.

Patch to skip test has now been included in the Debian package.

Changelog entries since current impish version 0.1.3-1ubuntu1:

python-a38 (0.1.3-2) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Skip tests that fail because of an expired certificate. (Closes:
#991648)

[Bug 1926937] Re: [SRU] Virtualbox new release 6.1.26

2021-08-04 Thread Eduardo Gutierrez
So thats why i told you, in case other people has the same issue... As i
remember updating vbox, updates also extension pack ( launching the
first time vbox, once updated, it tolds you that a newer version of
extension pack is avalaible and if you want to download it... so this
time i didnt have this option, i had to downoad manually from
virtualbox) and guest additions ( as i remember i started a vm, for
example windows guest, and then a popñ-up message arised once you login,
and you have to install the new version of guest additions from dvd/cd,
my guest didnt found the new guest additions and i had to download again
from virtualbox and create a new media with 6.1.22guestadditions.iso).

Perhaps its only me or i had to reboot, but this time only vbox package
was updated. I had to manually update the guest additions and extension
pack...

Thanks for your work

[Bug 1938942] [NEW] Autopkgtest failure with OpenLDAP 2.5.5

2021-08-04 Thread Brian Murray
Public bug reported:

Imported from Debian bug http://bugs.debian.org/990172:

Source: nsscache
Version: 0.42-1
Severity: medium

Dear maintainer,

We're working towards getting OpenLDAP 2.5.5 (already in experimental)
ready to start the transition process, and I noticed that nsscache's
autopkgtest fails because it uses the now-removed BDB backend.

I am also working on the OpenLDAP 2.5.5 transition for Ubuntu, and here
is the full log with the failures if you're interested:

https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/results/autopkgtest-impish/impish/amd64/n/ns=
scache/20210621_230811_7cc47@/log.gz

I also noticed that nsscache has code to deal with BDB; it may be a good
idea to raise this topic with upstream in case they want to update their
codebase.

Thanks,

[Bug 1915250] Re: buildd file owner/group for shared libraries

2021-08-04 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
The cat trick does not preserve setuid when building with Rules-
Requires-Root:no.

Not sure why though.

Either we need to fix for this to work with Rules-Requires-Root:no or
bail out in such a scenario.

[Bug 1938886] Re: rrr:no dh_strip or strip loose setuid bit

2021-08-04 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Based on https://elixir.bootlin.com/linux/latest/source/fs/inode.c#L1928
it seems that setuid and capabilities will be stipped, thus currently
our implementation of dh_strip causes to loose setuid and capabilities.

No idea why this is working with fakeroot when Rules-Requires-Root is set to
binary-targets.
And doesn't when it is set to "no".

chmod +s debian/virtualbox/usr/lib/virtualbox/VBoxSDL

[Bug 1938938] [NEW] apparmor denials for gnutls configuration

2021-08-04 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Public bug reported:

gnutls library can be configured using /etc/gnutls/config for example to
allow small keys and TLS versions below v1.2

however, if application is confined and has an apparmor profile and uses
gnutls it will ignore such file, if it is not allowed to read it.

For example:

[ 382.586297] audit: type=1400 audit(1628068663.214:162):
apparmor="DENIED" operation="open" profile="msmtp"
name="/etc/gnutls/config" pid=18621 comm="sendmail" requested_mask="r"
denied_mask="r" fsuid=0 ouid=0

[25379.358122] audit: type=1400 audit(1628093660.328:163): apparmor="DENIED"
operation="open" profile="/usr/bin/evince" name="/etc/gnutls/config" pid=53262
comm="evince" requested_mask="r" denied_mask="r" fsuid=1000 ouid=0

[25460.754092] audit: type=1400 audit(1628093741.726:164):
apparmor="DENIED" operation="open" profile="/usr/sbin/cupsd"
name="/etc/gnutls/config" pid=53347 comm="dbus" requested_mask="r"
denied_mask="r" fsuid=7 ouid=0

How can we allow to read /etc/gnutls/config for all apps that use
gnutls?

[Bug 1938886] Re: rrr:no dh_strip or strip loose setuid bit

2021-08-04 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
- objcopy/strip changed in 2.36.1, not keeping file attributes of the
original file. Work around that in dh_strip to write to a temporary
file and cat'ing this to the original file to keep the original
  attributes.

which is broken for setuid files.

[Bug 1938886] Re: rrr:no dh_strip or strip loose setuid bit

2021-08-04 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
dh_strip does

strip --remove-section=.comment --remove-section=.note --strip-unneeded -o
/tmp/OdGxqpWWsW/stripeIrB_j debian/virtualbox/usr/lib/virtualbox/VBoxSDL.so
cat '/tmp/OdGxqpWWsW/stripeIrB_j' >
'debian/virtualbox/usr/lib/virtualbox/VBoxSDL.so'

which behaves differently under root and non-root.

specifically `cat anything > file` will strip setuid bits from file,
irrespective of umask.

As root:
cat /dev/null > foo
chmod +s foo
ls -latr foo
-rwSr-Sr-- 1 root root 0 Aug 4 18:36 foo
cat /dev/null > foo
ls -latr foo
-rwSr-Sr-- 1 root root 0 Aug 4 18:36 foo

As mere mortal:

cat /dev/null > foo
chmod +s foo
ls -latr foo
-rwSr-Sr-- 1 xnox xnox 0 Aug 4 18:34 foo
cat /dev/null > foo
ls -latr foo
-rw-r-Sr-- 1 xnox xnox 0 Aug 4 18:34 foo

I really do not understand why mere-mortal strips user uid, keeps group
uid, and root doesn't do that.
