[Bug 1910908] Re: Web-login page for captive portals not opening on public wireless networks

2021-09-07 Thread Karl Kastner
I found meanwhile that the web login worked at most other places I have
been to since then. Thus, Ubuntu 20.04 seems to ignore the captive
portal only under particular circumstances which indicates that one of
the less common captive portal variants does not work.

[Bug 1923642] Re: glib can no longer be included in extern "C" blocks

2021-09-07 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
I digged deeper into it. The patch in your PPA actually just creates
another patch, and doesn't change any upstream files. If you had done it
right, you'd have found that it doesn't apply by itself.

I uploaded a fix. Besides the upstream commit which Robie mentioned, I
included six other commits to make it work.

[Bug 1741607] Re: Software Boutique is broken on 18.04

2021-09-07 Thread Robert Pearson
In Ubuntu MATE 20.04.3, PlayOnLinux won't install because it requires
Python 2 which has been depreciated. VirtualBox won't install because it
requires the installation media to be a CD.

Who is responsible for checking the packages in the Software Boutique
and keeping them up to date?

[Bug 1932328] Re: Thunderbird under Wayland does not correctly close (or manage) windows

2021-09-07 Thread Derek L
I experience this bug under Wayland in Pop!_OS 21.04, which uses a
custom fork of Dash to Dock (Cosmic Dock).[*]

I found a clunky workaround:

* Select File -> Send Later (ctl-shift-enter): message is saved to Outbox.
* Select File -> Send Unsent Messages.

This method does not create a "ghost window". But it's nearly as
annoying as the bug itself. I had to remove the "Send" button from the
Composition toolbar to keep me from reflexively clicking it. (I should
really just switch TB to run under Xwayland, but I'm pigheaded.)

[Bug 1942971] [NEW] Progress buttons go out of the screen in the VirtualBox (800x600 fixed screen size), when one of CJK languages is selected

2021-09-07 Thread Seong-ho Cho
Public bug reported:

This problem occurs from the installation of the Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS image, and
if one of CJK languages is selected.
(maybe it also seems occuring from the Ubuntu 21.04)

I was about to try go to the "Next" after each doing selection of installation
property.
but < Back, Next > and Cancel buttons are out of the screen, so every user
cannot select by mouse,
just some of expert user can guess each button's position by pressing "Tab" key.
there is wide space internally in the installation window,
it's like that .. Its spaces should be shrinked.

I am teaching the way of handling linux shell terminal to many students.
I currently recommend to install this into virtual machine created by the
Oracle VirtualBox to many student for getting experience of using linux
terminal.
usually, screen size of VirtualBox machine is fixed to 800x600, and it cannot
be varied by a user until VirtualBox guest driver is successfully installed
into the Ubuntu machine.
Many students are suffered from this bug. so they cannot try to use this
distribution.
they are demending why buggy Ubuntu distribution is recommended.

This bug should be handled as "urgent", please consider to make quick fix for
this bug.
Thank you.

[Bug 1942972] [NEW] Update fix for LP: #1936708

2021-09-07 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
There's a new fix for LP: #1936708, and it's more reliable than the
old approach. So replace it.

[Fix]
Use eDP as predicate to enable max params.

[Test]
Users confirmed the fix can resolve their issue.

[Where problems could occur]
This patch reverts to the old behavior, which is to use max parameters,
for older panels. If there's any new panel reports with older eDP
version, this might change the behavior on it.

[Bug 1942883] Re: dont work laptop screen on intel uhd 620

2021-09-07 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report. The first problem I can see here is that you
are using graphics packages from the 'oibaf' PPA which are unsupported
and often buggy.

Please remove that PPA using 'ppa-purge', reboot, and then if the
problem continues please open a new bug.

[Bug 1942962] [NEW] timeout in locking authority file if $HOME/$HOSTNAME exists

2021-09-07 Thread Eduardo Santos
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu, if you create a directory with the same name as the system's
hostname in the user's home directory ($HOME/$HOSTNAME), when this user
attempts to startx, xauth will complain about the lock in the authority
file ~/.Xauthority. This also creates the files ~/.Xauthority-c and
~/.Xauthority-l. This is a very specific bug, I'm not sure if it's
Ubuntu-related or xinit-related exactly. I can reproduce it consistently
(minimal install, no additional pacakges installed aprt from xorg).

System info:
- Ubuntu Server 20.04.3 LTS
- xinit 1.4.1-0ubuntu2

[Bug 1942955] [NEW] Ubuntu MATE 20.04.3 installer crashed

2021-09-07 Thread Robert Pearson
Public bug reported:

Where to start. Apparently the iso (ubuntu-mate-20.04.3-desktop-
amd64.iso) assumes every computer runs Windows and has small disks (2 TB
or smaller). The "Disk Image Writer" formats the jump drive as MBR with
bootable partition, a EFI partition for Windows compatibility and the
rest of the drive (59GB) as unusable.

I purchased a 1TB WD Blue SATA SSD and tried to install in it. The first
five times failed. The drive was initially blank and the installer
disabled the Install button. I used 18.04 Disks to creat the GUID
partition table and create the UEFI System Partition, the Ubuntu MATE
partition, the Linux swap partition, and a NTFS data partition.

I was at least able to start the installation. Then the installer
crashed.

[Bug 1942951] [NEW] devhelp doesn't display any help pages

2021-09-07 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

webkit2gtk 2.33.3-1ubuntu3

Test Case
-
1. sudo apt install devhelp libgtk-3-doc
2. Open devhelp and click the GTK+ 3 Reference Manual link in the left sidebar.
3. The manual should show in the main view area.

What Happens

The main viewing area stays blank.

Other Info
--
I manually installed webkit2gtk from Ubuntu 21.04 and Devhelp worked normally
again.
The Epiphany web browser works fine with the broken webkit2gtk version.
Ubuntu's packaging diverges slightly from Debian's. The changelog mentions some
dependency changes and disabling lto.
I haven't done any further investigation.

[Bug 1942949] [NEW] PulseAudio Preferences options disabled

2021-09-07 Thread Stuart Schneider
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS x86_64 fully updated with apt.

My installed packages:

ii pulseaudio 1:13.99.1-1ubuntu3.11
 amd64PulseAudio sound server
ii paprefs1.1-1build1
 amd64PulseAudio Preferences

Running paprefs to enable options shows everything disabled/unavailable.
Specifically options for Network Access, Network Server, etc are all
greyed out and not selectable.

Using this workaround found online, options within paprefs are all enabled:
ln -s /usr/lib/pulse-13.99.1 /usr/lib/pulse-13.99

After, setting option to 'Make discoverable Apple AirTunes sound devices
available locally' now works and audio output to such a device works
perfectly.

Expected behavior - paprefs should not need a symlink to an old library
directory in order to function correctly.

[Bug 1942797] Re: 21.04 - Printer uncooperative (And incohesive) behavior after PWR ON+OFF+ON

2021-09-07 Thread Daniel LaSalle
Today I tried something new:

1st print attempt w/ firefox = same print error on printer
2nd print attempt w/ firefox = it printed out properly.

Using LOW to make it work was just a coincidence.

Better do that in next cycle IMO, and use your patch in Ubuntu for now.

However, the PPA build failed...

[Bug 1939673] Re: Update the 470 and the 470-server NVIDIA drivers

2021-09-07 Thread Francis Ginther
Retested with the latest kernels as of Sept 7, 2021. Now able to see
that ubuntu-drivers now lists the 470-server driver as an available
option. For both Focal and Hirsute, I first had to enable -proposed. For
Bionic, it worked with the 4.15.0-156.163 kernel that was released this
week.

Tested combinations:
Release   Kernel
Bionic    4.15.0-156.163
Focal     5.4.0-85.95 (from focal-proposed)
Hirsute   5.11.0-35.37 (from hirsute-proposed)

Tested each driver with a cuda workload and use of nvidia-smi to verify
the driver functions as expected after install.
