[Bug 1946359] Re: [MIR] vulkan-tools

2021-10-07 Thread Miriam España Acebal
** Description changed:

  [Availability]

vulkan-utils package is present since Focal, as part of vulkan-tools
  package: as
  transitional package : amd64 arm64 armhf ppc64el riscv64 s390x.

In this case, vulkan-tools has to be MIR (it's source for vulkan-
  utils).

requirements (delta contains now dep8 tests, but it's going to be fordwarded

vulkan-tools package is well maintained in Debian and also in
  upstream.

  It uses a debian/watch file.

Although the package scans HW (as its target functionality is to
show vulkan information related to gpu) and in that sense also "deals
with exotic HW", it incorporates a mocked ICD driver that we used e. g.
  for testing.

[Bug 1945008] Re: Logs in with Wayland although Xorg looks selected in session menu. Need to reselect

2021-10-07 Thread Stephen Cofer
So you're going to abandon even worrying about it just because the
original bug reporter -- who could have given up, gone to another distro
or even another OS at this point -- hasn't replied?

And people wonder why I don't report bugs.

[Bug 1892559] Re: [MIR] ccid opensc pcsc-lite

2021-10-07 Thread Treviño
The plan seems quite solid, and I do agree that having some more testing
would be nice (also using libsofthsm2 can help here I think).

I'm not sure if all this can be achieved by the next LTS though, which I
think we're targetting.

@Chris, Response from Intel TPM folks for #44 -

"
I presume by firmware they mean BIOS.

There is no debugger mode left enabled in normal production flows or SKUs for
CSME.
To enable CSME debug mode you'd first unlock the part with an IDLM. I seriously
doubt that the part they have is unlocked.

Can you please clarify which debugger that you are referring to?

focal/20.04 when using the image ubuntu-minimal-2004-focal-v20210928 on
GCP. Creating a new custom GCP image using this as the base image and
running:

apt-get update
apt-get upgrade -y

created a custom image that exhibited the same issues with GCP OS login.
Rebooting the VM also resolved the ssh connection issues. Placing a
hold ('apt-mark hold cloud-init') on the cloud-init package before
running the upgrade also seemed to resolve the issue.

[Bug 1944519] Re: Ubuntu Mate shutdown prompt is missing - system reboots at once

2021-10-07 Thread Chris Guiver
I've changed to back to new. Issues with Xubuntu daily ISO (2021-10-08)
on various boxes, see

http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/424/builds/237961/testcases/1303/results/

In all cases I'm waiting 2 mins+ before pressing ENTER

Following stick at plymouth xubuntu(logo)
- hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 5gb, nvidia quadro nvs 290)
- dell [optiplex] 755 (c2d-e6850, 5gb, amd/ati radeon rv516/x1300

on pressing enter I get system messages then box shuts down

Following stick at plymouth xubuntu(logo)
- sony vaio svp112a1cw (i5-9400u, 4gb, intel haswell-ULT)

on pressing enter I get VAIO plymouth screen then shutdown

Following get a black screen (no logo, just "_" top left on each display)
- hp 8200 elite sff (i5-2400, 8gb, nvidia quadro 600)

on pressing enter the system shuts down

No Eject.media/Enter message is displayed on any thus far
this is likely identical responses to #4

(I've still got more boxes I'm set to test; I'll edit & add them here
once done, but gotta pause the testing for now - real life)

Hi Bijay,

If you add "options snd-hda-intel dmic_detect=0" to the
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf, plug the headset and reboot, could you
still reproduce this issue? (this testing will force to use legacy hda
audio driver instead of sof audio driver).

python-oslo.metrics is pretty short and doesn't seem all that
complicated.

I'm starting to wonder if there's just plain too many OpenStack packages
these days; when I started this package, there wasn't a way to report bugs
in it, and my attempts to get help on irc lead nowhere. Once it was
possible to file bugs, my bug report didn't get much traction. (Almost
understandable, it's not hugely important.) But it does give me the
impression that the openstack security team may be spread too thin.

Security team ACK for promoting python-oslo.metrics to main. Ideally,
Corey's fix for the permissions would land in the archive before we ship
it.

[Bug 1934752] Re: ubuntu mate - impish - change monitor.preferences and 2 displays became 4

2021-10-07 Thread Chris Guiver
Experienced this again today on live QA-test (Ubuntu-MATE 2021-10-07
ISO) on

- hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 5gb, nvidia quadro nvs 290)
- hp 8200 elite sff (i5-2400, 8gb, nvidia quadro 600)

On the hp8200 the acer display started flashing on moving the mouse
(which was on other display); otherwise same effect on both boxes

Also experienced the first part of this (trails & multiple green/red
boxes very badly) today on

which was reported at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-
mate-meta/+bug/1946413 (no loss of second display/wallpaper nor
flashing experienced on nvidia)

[Bug 1946413] Re: ubuntu mate monitor preferences visually a mess on movement

2021-10-07 Thread Chris Guiver
** Description changed:

this is a duplicate report... (or i've filed it before but possibly
mixed with other issues that don't apply on this AMD gpu)

- Ubuntu-MATE impish daily.
+ Ubuntu-MATE impish daily live QA-test on
+ - dell [optiplex] 780 (c2q-q9400, 8gb, amd/ati cedar radeon hd
5000/6000/7350/8350)
+
+ Same issue also occurs on prior tests on boxes
+ - hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 5gb, nvidia quadro nvs 290)
+ - hp dc7900 (c2d-e8400, 4gb, intel 4 series integrated i915)
+ but those boxes had wallpaper/image get lost on hitting APPLY to save
settings which is issue that doesn't occur on this AMD/ATI video card; reports
for hp's can be found at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-mate-meta/+bug/1934752

  ** Background

Monitors are landscape + portrait-left, so live boots with one display
readable & other somewhat problematic to read.. Worse on this box the
  monitors are left-right swapped.

First thing is load Display settings so I can set Monitor Preferences to
  match setup.. Alas I make a few mistakes & now after a number of tries;
I cannot tell which is the real monitor and which isn't

  ** Expectation

The Monitor Preferences shows two displays; 1 green & 1 red representing each
display..
(no trails, but definitely no choice multiple red/green desktops(

  ** Actual results

Currently I have 3 red displays on the box that are complete; plus 20+
partial-red trails from prior movements. I also have 2+ complete green
displays & 1 partial green display and maybe 5 partial green trails from
  movements.

-
- Because of the portrait tilt (portrait-left in MATE & Lubuntu, but it's
portrait-RIGHT in Ubuntu which I QA-tested yesterday) I took a number of goes
to get it right, each time the screens go black & redraw where I accept or
restore settings... I lost track of which GREEN & RED was real during my
various attempts.. it's made me a little whoozy which isn't good, but the
red/green trails & multiple images do NOT make it easy.

This is the 3rd box today I've experienced this today; 2x nvidia & this
amd thingy. It's a larger problem on this box because of the portrait
tilt (that's not always portrait-left as is dependent on desktop being
used & my testing multiple desktops)

That still looks different to the Ubuntu 20.04 OSK due to your theme.
Try changing back to the Ubuntu "Yaru" theme.

If the issue is specific to atomic KMS then you can turn that off in
/etc/environment:

  MUTTER_DEBUG_ENABLE_ATOMIC_KMS=0

[Bug 1946413] [NEW] ubuntu mate monitor preferences visually a mess on movement

2021-10-07 Thread Chris Guiver
Public bug reported:

this is a duplicate report... (or i've filed it before but possibly
mixed with other issues that don't apply on this AMD gpu)

Ubuntu-MATE impish daily.

** Background

Monitors are landscape + portrait-left, so live boots with one display
readable & other somewhat problematic to read.. Worse on this box the
monitors are left-right swapped.

First thing is load Display settings so I can set Monitor Preferences to
match setup.. Alas I make a few mistakes & now after a number of tries;

I also have 2+ complete green
displays & 1 partial green display and maybe 5 partial green trails from
movements.

Because of the portrait tilt (portrait-left in MATE & Lubuntu, but it's
portrait-RIGHT in Ubuntu which I QA-tested yesterday) I took a number of goes
to get it right, each time the screens go black & redraw where I accept or
restore settings...

[Bug 1946411] [NEW] Glitchy/freezing desktop caused by opening app launcher group

2021-10-07 Thread Douglas Silva
Public bug reported:

# Steps to reproduce:
1. Press "Super + A" to see all apps.
2. Find an app launcher group (many launchers grouped in one item) and open it
3. Close the group

# What happens:
The pagination indicators become duplicated, followed by glitchy animations.

This can be temporarily fixed by pressing ALT + F2 and running "r" to restart
the desktop.
If you don't do that soon, the desktop will become frozen, unresponsive.

# Workaround (for the frozen desktop):
Switch to another TTY and restart the 'gdm' service.

[Bug 1943077] Re: snapd fails to autopkgtest on mksquashfs, which is looking for libgcc_s

2021-10-07 Thread Ian Johnson
Dan, note that although we set the SNAP_REEXEC environment variable in
that integration test, that environment variable is actually not obeyed
when it comes to the mksquashfs command which is called here:

https://github.com/snapcore/snapd/blob/dfba7de59a41bc22786d87f53b20deea14240713/snap/squashfs/squashfs.go#L524

and the function snapdtool.CommandFromSystemSnap does not observe the
SNAP_REEXEC environment variable at all, instead just checking if the
snapd or core snaps exist at all, and using the mksquashfs from those
snaps instead of what's on the host on $PATH (though we do fallback and
if there is no mksquashfs found in the core or snapd snaps (somehow???),
then we use $PATH).

As I mentioned on IRC, we could potentially someday add a workaround
where if mksquashfs from the system snap specifically segfaults then we
will fall back to using the host's mksquashfs, but we have chosen for
now not to work on that patch.

Hope this helps explain things.

[Bug 1932523] Re: iotop can raise UnicodeDecodeError because /proc/pid/status can have non-utf-8 data in Name

2021-10-07 Thread Paul Wise (Debian)
Thanks, I have forward-ported the patch, added a commit message and
pushed the patch upstream:

https://repo.or.cz/iotop.git/commit/443737ec620a699286b9b2e44dbcaac53f553812

At some point in the next few weeks I'll make a new release, upload it
to Debian and get it synced to Ubuntu.

Since the patch is only a workaround, it would be good to have a proper
fix; guess the encoding using chardet or similar and coerce the bytes
into Unicode. Any help with that is welcome.

[Bug 1945008] Re: Logs in with Wayland although Xorg looks selected in session menu. Need to reselect

2021-10-07 Thread Stephen Cofer
Also seeing this issue. No crashes shown. Boot session is three (3)
logins, all three with the selector set to Xorg -- the first one logs in
with Gnome Wayland session, the second with Xorg, and the third with
Wayland again.

This is a fresh Impish (Ubuntu 21.10) install, not an upgrade with no
custom core components, updated to latest packages.

[Bug 1943077] Re: snapd fails to autopkgtest on mksquashfs, which is looking for libgcc_s

2021-10-07 Thread Dan Bungert
Snapd team advises that this will be fixed in 2.52.1, and that affected
users should pick up that version when available or, in the mean time,
pickup a newer snapd. Currently the beta channel has this 2.52.1
version, which does appear to resolve the issue. Based on this advise
I'm removing 'rls-ii-incoming'

Note that this version being on stable does not necessarily fix autopkgtest, as
this deb version of snapd goes out of its way to NOT actually install the snap
version of snapd.

Ian,

Do you/team have contacts in here or AWS that could help with that?

I think that other lines of investigation now, after our findings
and apparent inconsistencies, would be based on speculation, and
we're better trying to get real information/logs from the system
with AWS Support.

cheers,
Mauricio

[Bug 1946149] Re: Bionic/linux-aws Boot failure downgrading from Bionic/linux-aws-5.4 on r5.metal

2021-10-07 Thread Mauricio Faria de Oliveira
Today I wanted to try and instrument the boot process a bit,
since we have no serial console in the nitro metal instances.

I was looking for pstore_blk (hoping we could panic_on_warn
or panic_on_oops), but it's only available in 5.8+ it seems.)

So I decided to start with grub, and keep a progress variable
in grubenv, and use grub-reboot to boot 4.15.0-1113-aws _once_
(as it's expected to fail), then (force) stop and start again,
and check grubenv in 5.4.0-*-aws (which works.)

Interestingly, in one of such attempts 4.15.0-1113-aws WORKED.

In another attempt, I could see the progress variable for the
4.15 _and_ 5.14 kernels, so it seems that grub booted 4.15
but it didn't make it to the fully booted system. (i.e., grub
seems to be working correctly.)

In the other attempts I noticed that once we try to boot 4.15,
the system seems to become weird and not react quickly even
to the 'Force stop' method (after you try 'Stop' that doesn't
work.)

...

So, since 4.15 worked/booted once, and the systems seem weird,
and Ian just posted that he had a different result/questioned
previous result (ie, it might well be a _different_ result),
I wonder if somehow this particular instance type is acting up.

Given that 4.15 worked/booted ~20 times under kexec, it's not
unreasonable to consider there might be something going on in
normal boot.

I think we should probably engage AWS Support to try and ask
for a console log using an internally available method (seen
it elsewhere iirc), and also to clarify differences in boot
disk among instace types r5.metal (fail), r5d.metal (works),
and r5d.24xlarge (works) -- they all have EBS/nvme as '/'.

[Bug 1943049] Re: Docker ubuntu:impish: Problem executing scripts DPkg::Post-Invoke 'rm -f /var/cache/apt/archives/*.deb /var/cache/apt/archives/partial/*.deb /var/cache/apt/*.bin || true'

2021-10-07 Thread Thomas Weise
Hi.

First of all:
Sorry, I am probably reporting again(?) for the wrong issue(?)

I have fully updated my ubuntu (see all the version information in the command
output print below).
However, my problem mentioned in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/cloud-images/+bug/1943049/comments/43 still persists:
I cannot install curl with &&-chained commands (and if I install it without
using the &&-chain, it fails to access an url).
Therefore, I cannot use curl to access a website (see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/cloud-images/+bug/1943293, marked as duplicate of
the problem in this thread).
(Therefore, git on a https repo would not work either.)

As said, I am not sure whether the new release or fix was supposed to solve
this problem or whether I am commenting on a wrong topic.
Nevertheless, here is the current state of my problem:

1. The chain "apt-get update && apt-get install -y curl" will fail.
I think concatenating these commands with "&&" may be common in a docker build,
therefore this may still be considered as an issue.

2. "apt-get install -y curl" does install curl, though, while printing
some error message.

3. "curl https://bing.com; still fails with "curl: (6) getaddrinfo()
thread failed to start", which was my originally reported problem in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/cloud-images/+bug/1943293.

Below, please find the complete command chain and output:

[Bug 1944004] Re: snapd.seeded.service never finishes on non-amd64

2021-10-07 Thread Ian Johnson
Okay, so after too much time trying to test this, I confirmed that this
change will fix it for both powerpc and for s390x:
https://github.com/snapcore/snapd/pull/10898

That PR should be merged to snapd master, then cherry-picked to
release/2.53 branch, then we can upload a 2.53.1 deb to impish-proposed
and try to get that released to impish proper which will fix the issue.
If we can do it in time for the release even better.

[Bug 1946393] [NEW] Fix byte count on fragmented packets in tc ct action

2021-10-07 Thread Bodong Wang
Public bug reported:

* Explain the bug

First fragmented packets (frag offset = 0) byte len is zeroed
when stolen by ip_defrag(). And since act_ct update the stats
only afterwards (at end of execute), bytes aren't correctly
accounted for such packets.

* How to test

Create OVS bridge with 2 devices $dev1, $dev2 (can be any devices)
Enable HW offload and configure connection tracking OpenFlow rules as below
e.g:
ovs-ofctl del-flows br-ovs
ovs-ofctl add-flow br-ovs arp,actions=normal
ovs-ofctl add-flow br-ovs "table=0, ip,ct_state=-trk actions=ct(table=1)"
ovs-ofctl add-flow br-ovs "table=1, ip,ct_state=+trk+new
actions=ct(commit),normal"
ovs-ofctl add-flow br-ovs "table=1, ip,ct_state=+trk+est, actions=normal"

Run fragmented icmp ping traffic (e.g ping -s 2000)

dump ovs rules (ovs-appctl dpctl/dump-flows), observe byte count on frag=first
rule:
ct_state(-trk),recirc_id(0),in_port(2),eth_type(0x0800),ipv4(proto=1,frag=first),
 packets:10, bytes:13960, used:1.370s, actions:ct(zone=1),recirc(0x1)

bytes would be zero if bug occurs.

* What it could break.

NA

[Bug 1944951] Re: KDE delayed display update / konsole artifacts

2021-10-07 Thread andik
Tried a few more things:

Booted from the Kubuntu 21.10 live beta DVD, problem persists.
Booted from KDE Neon DVD, no artefacts.

Turned on composite management, started a new konsole. Turned off composite
management.
Konsole display is without errors. So I can have one konsole with problems and
another one without at the same time. Nevertheless the "about" dialog shows
artefacts.

Manually replaced package xserver-xorg-core with version from 21.04,
problem persists after Xorg restart.

[Bug 1944468] Re: Electron applications all crash upon launch

2021-10-07 Thread Erich Eickmeyer 
@mikethebos1 You'll see that the fix is in the proposed pocket[1],
awaiting migration. However, since glibc pretty much touches
*everything* it has a lot of hoops to jump through with autopkgtests
before it can migrate to the release pocket[2]. Rest assured, it's work-
in-progress at this point with a lot of automated systems.

Thanks for raising this feedback Vergar, I'm glad you have a workaround

[Bug 1946387] [NEW] Ubuntu won't install beside Mint

2021-10-07 Thread Remi Marentette
Public bug reported:

Tried installing Mint beside Windows at the beginning. Could only access
Mint from bios after installation, or Windows, by changing boot order.
Tried installing Ubuntu beside Mint to see if that made a difference.
Now, when I boot (with f1} I only get boot order Ubuntu and Windows boot
manager and neither one boots up, just comes back to the boot order no
matter what I so. Booted from Windows recovery usb and just would not
recover no matter what option I picked. Figured Windows was toast so
formatted any windows partition (From the Ubuntu install disk after
loading and trying Ubuntu as the option and going to Disks} and deleted
those partitions to turn them into unused space. Rebooted and reloaded
Ubuntu install disk and tried an install beside Mint, which still
appeared to be there. No dice.Still won't boot unless I hit f1 and then
defaults to just the boot order of Ubuntu and Windows boot manager!
Would like to just erase my ssd and start with fresh install of Ubuntu
but not sure how to accomplish that unless I use my desktop (That has
Windows, Mint and Ubuntu running side by side with Grub showing up at
boot to give me the option of OS's} I have another ssd plugged into a
usb that I could exchange for this ssd in my laptop and do whatever is
necessary to it from there. Or I could just download the Windows 10 ISO
from the Microsoft website and start over. Not sure if any of those
options are the right ones. HELP!
