[Bug 1921494] Re: ldap_install_tls occasionally fails due to watchdog timeout when using ad_use_ldaps with tls
Hi Rex, Snakekick, Thanks for testing that previous test package, it was actually very interesting to hear that it didn't work, and it came as a real surprise. I have been working with Sergio on reproducing this locally, and as you can see, we haven't been able to reproduce just yet. Along with answering Sergio's questions, could you also please try the below test package? It is a build of the current upstream sssd master branch, at version 2.6.0 which was released a few days ago. As I am writing this, the package is pending to be built, so please check that the package has built before you start installing anything. https://launchpad.net/~mruffell/+archive/ubuntu/lp1921494-test-upstream Please note, these test packages are NOT SUPPORTED by Canonical and are for TEST PURPOSES ONLY. ONLY install in a dedicated test environment. Now, as this is actually 2.6.0 and not 2.2.3-ubuntu0.7, you may find some major differences, and your configuration files might need changing, please keep it in mind. Instructions to Install (on Focal): 1) sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mruffell/lp1921494-test-upstream 2) sudo apt update 3) sudo apt upgrade # or just install the sssd packages, up to you, there may be many of them. 4) sudo apt-cache policy sssd | grep Installed 2.2.3-3ubuntu0.7+lp1921494v20211020b1.really.2.6.0 I just built it for Focal. Please don't install it on any production system, just a VM that you can snapshot and restore ideally. [Bug 1921494] Re: ldap_install_tls occasionally fails due to watchdog timeout when using ad_use_ldaps with tls
Hello there, Matthew and I spent a non-trivial amount of time trying to reproduce this bug. Let me tell you what we did, what we found, and then maybe you can help us progress. First of all, it is really important that we find a reproducer so that we can: (1) figure out what exactly is going on, (2) possibly find a patch or write a fix for the problem, and (3) drive the SRU process to its completion and get the fix release for all affected Ubuntu versions. Having said that, here is what I did (and, to the best of my knowledge, what Matthew also tried): 1) I installed Windows Server 2019 in a VM. I configured Active Directory, DHCP and DNS. I also configured the Certificate Authority in it. Bear in mind that this is a test environment, so the configuration I did was basic. For AD, I chose to "Add a new forest" using "Windows Server 2016" as the functional level, and with DNS and Global Catalog capabilities actived. For the Certificate Authority, I chose to generate a root certificate (I don't remember exactly the other options, but the root certificate is important). 2) I created an LXD container running Ubuntu Focal that shared the same network bridge as the Windows Server 2019 VM. Promptly, the container acquired an IP from the DHCP I had configured in the Windows VM. 3) I joined the AD realm using "realm join win-ad-example.adtest.local". sssd and other dependencies were automatically installed, and the process finished successfully. 4) I then went to the Windows VM, opened certsrv, found the certificate for the machine and exported it. I copied the certificate into the LXD container, put it into the right place (/usr/local/share/ca- certificates/) and ran update-ca-certificates. I noticed that the command added 1 certificate to the chain. 5) I edited /etc/sssd/sssd.conf and added the following options to the domain section: ldap_tls_cacert = /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt ad_use_ldaps = True debug_level = 4 6) I then restarted sssd. And I noticed the error manifesting! At that point, I thought I had reproduced the bug (keep reading, though). I started to investigate what could be happening. 7) After several minutes thinking I was on the right track, I decided to try and run the "ldapsearch" command provided above: $ ldapsearch -x -Z -v -H ldaps://win-ad-example.adtest.local:636 And to my surprise, I noticed that the command could not connect to the Windows server. I then started debugging things, and quickly found that the problem was that the TLS certificate from the server could not be validated. Something was wrong... 8) I went back to the Windows VM and poked around certsrv. I noticed that I had exported the certificate for the machine, but not the root certificate. I decided to give it a try. 9) After having imported the root certificate into the LXD container, I restarted sssd and, much to my surprise, everything worked out of the box (using the sssd package from the archive). Back to square one... As you can see, I have a working AD DC and I can successfully connect to it using a regular Focal container (I also tried with a Focal VM, with the same results). I spent a few more hours trying to tweak some things here and there to see if I could make the bug manifest, to no avail. For this reason, I decided to come and ask for more information from you. It would be great if you could tell me if there's anything you can think of that might trigger this problem. Something related to the way your AD DC is configured, perhaps? Here is the sssd.conf I'm using: # cat /etc/sssd/sssd.conf [sssd] domains = adtest.local config_file_version = 2 services = nss, pam [domain/adtest.local] default_shell = /bin/bash krb5_store_password_if_offline = True cache_credentials = True krb5_realm = ADTEST.LOCAL realmd_tags = manages-system joined-with-adcli id_provider = ad ldap_sasl_authid = SSSD-BUG1921494$ fallback_homedir = /home/%u@%d ad_domain = adtest.local use_fully_qualified_names = True ldap_id_mapping = True access_provider = ad ldap_tls_cacert = /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt ad_use_ldaps = True debug_level = 4 ldap_library_debug_level = -1 Note that I haven't configured Kerberos authentication in my example, but I don't that should matter much. It would be great if you could do a few things: a) As I mentioned above, let us know if there is any peculiarity in your AD DC configuration that might impact this. b) If possible, set up an Ubuntu Impish system (which has just been released) and try to reproduce the problem there. Impish ships a newer version of sssd and also OpenLDAP, which might influence here. c) Can you confirm whether you can always trigger this problem, or does this just happen sporadically? d) Can you confirm whether you have imported the root certificate for your AD DC server into the client as well (assuming this applies to your scenario, of course)? I think this is all I have for now. Matthew, feel free to complement the info

[Bug 1662620] Re: "ip addr add" permits illegal labels
Hm. It's not clear what the actual user impact of this is? Reading from the original description, it seems that if a user uses an invalid label to set one address and *also* uses a valid label to set another address *then* tools can be confused? “Our parser is actually more lenient than the manpage states” on its own is definitely not SRU-worthy, but if it breaks other tools then maybe? On the other hand, from the bug it looks like if you *don't* mix valid and invalid labels then everything actually works? So this would potentially be breaking currently working setups? [Bug 1452641] Re: Static Ceph mon IP addresses in connection_info can prevent VM startup
Please don't set OpenStack bugs to Public Security without some explanation as to why you believe this to be an exploitable risk which needs attention from the OpenStack vulnerability managers for coordinating a possible security advisory. I'm switching this back to a normal Public bug for now, but if you suspect this report represents an actual security risk then please explain and set it to Public Security again. [Bug 1947498] Re: zfs/zpool encryption crash on server 21.10
There's more trouble. I just copied several TB of data by zfs send | zfs recv from a 20.04 machine to this new machine. [Bug 1947501] Re: update-manager should not remove deb-packaged Firefox on flavors
Tested on a Lubuntu impish (final) QA-test install. `update-manager` installed (1.21.10.5 from proposed) (along with all other files available via -proposed) No snaps were installed ran `sudo update-manager` it reported I needed to reboot (fair enough) then exited No snaps were installed. Firefox is still installed as deb package :) -- Lubuntu isn't impacted by this; but I'd added `update-manager` days ago [mentioned in the askubu link Norbert gave] and by running `update-manager`; the `firefox` *deb* was removed & a snap version installed. This was on that same box which has a couple of ~identical installs; ie. QA-test of full disk install; followed by install alongside etc.. so this was a clean install before this test. [Bug 1863162]
The release/2.34/master branch has been updated by Florian Weimer : https://sourceware.org/git/gitweb.cgi?p=glibc.git;h=024a7640ab9ecea80e527f4e4d7f7a1868e952c5 commit 024a7640ab9ecea80e527f4e4d7f7a1868e952c5 Author: Szabolcs Nagy Date: Wed Sep 15 15:16:19 2021 +0100 elf: Avoid deadlock between pthread_create and ctors [BZ #28357] The fix for bug 19329 caused a regression such that pthread_create can deadlock when concurrent ctors from dlopen are waiting for it to finish. Use a new GL(dl_load_tls_lock) in pthread_create that is not taken around ctors in dlopen. The new lock is also used in __tls_get_addr instead of GL(dl_load_lock). The new lock is held in _dl_open_worker and _dl_close_worker around most of the logic before/after the init/fini routines. When init/fini routines are running then TLS is in a consistent, usable state. In _dl_open_worker the new lock requires catching and reraising dlopen failures that happen in the critical section. The new lock is reinitialized in a fork child, to keep the existing behaviour and it is kept recursive in case malloc interposition or TLS access from signal handlers can retake it. It is not obvious if this is necessary or helps, but avoids changing the preexisting behaviour. The new lock may be more appropriate for dl_iterate_phdr too than GL(dl_load_write_lock), since TLS state of an incompletely loaded module may be accessed. If the new lock can replace the old one, that can be a separate change. Fixes bug 28357. [Bug 1947810] [NEW] autopkgtest-satdep.deb unpack fails on Debian images
Public bug reported: Since impish, dpkg defaults to the zstd compression format for compressing the members in a deb package archive [1,2]. However Debian zstd support efforts are still in progress [3]. Therefore, running autopkgtest from an Ubuntu (>= 21.10) host on a Debian target fails, since autopkgtest uses dpkg-deb to generate the autopkgtest-satdep.deb package. For instance, running the following commands for a given package $ autopkgtest-build-lxd images:debian/sid $ autopkgtest ./. -- lxd autopkgtest/debian/sid/amd64 results in the following error: autopkgtest [18:32:17]: build needed for binaries autopkgtest [18:32:24]: ERROR: "dpkg --unpack /tmp/autopkgtest.4vFMyL/1-autopkgtest-satdep.deb" failed with stderr "dpkg-deb: error: archive '/tmp/autopkgtest.4vFMyL/1-autopkgtest-satdep.deb' uses unknown compression for member 'control.tar.zst', giving up dpkg: error processing archive /tmp/autopkgtest.4vFMyL/1-autopkgtest-satdep.deb (--unpack): dpkg-deb --control subprocess returned error exit status 2 Errors were encountered while processing: /tmp/autopkgtest.4vFMyL/1-autopkgtest-satdep.deb [1] https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dpkg/+bug/1923845 [2] https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dpkg/+bug/1923845/comments/34 [3] https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=892664 ** Affects: autopkgtest (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1947810 Title: autopkgtest-satdep.deb unpack fails on Debian images To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/autopkgtest/+bug/1947810/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I have configured Firefox to use SPNEGO authentication against my authentication server using the policy `Authentication/SPNEGO` (as documented at https://github.com/mozilla/policy- templates/blob/master/README.md#authentication). Firefox shows the policy in `about:policies` and the corresponding setting `network.negotiate-auth.trusted-uris` in `about:config`, so the policy is found and applied correctly. Actual results: Even though the policy is active, Firefox does not attempt Kerberos authentication against my authentication server. The exact same policy DOES work with the regular deb-based version of Firefox, so the issue has to be in the snap package. I guess that the snap version does not have access to the required files and/or environment variables. I logged which files and directories the deb-based Firefox accesses that seem to have to do with Kerberos/SPNEGO using `strace -f -t -e trace=file firefox` on my system running Ubuntu 21.10 beta: ``` /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgssapi_krb5.so.2 /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libkrb5.so.3 /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libk5crypto.so.3 /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libkrb5support.so.0 /etc/gss/mech /etc/gss/mech.d /etc/krb5.conf /etc/krb5/user/10017/client.keytab /usr/share/locale/*/LC_MESSAGES/mit-krb5.mo /usr/share/locale-langpack/*/LC_MESSAGES/mit-krb5.mo /tmp/krb5cc_10017_QfHqc3 ``` `10017` is the user ID of the user running firefox. The last file `/tmp/krb5cc_10017_QfHqc3` is the user's Kerberos ticket cache, which is given by the environment variable `KRB5CCNAME`. So the first step would be to allow the snap to access the listed files and directories, as well as to the environment variable `KRB5CCNAME`. Of course, the list is just generated by looking at the deb-based Firefox on my system and might not be complete. In any case, I'd be happy to test an updated snap. Expected results: Kerberos/SPNEGO authentication should work the same as in the deb-based Firefox. [Bug 1782984] Re: Assertion `!xcb_xlib_threads_sequence_lost' failed with multiple applications
Has anyone tried PCManFM or Inkscape on focal? It seems that this update doesn't fix GNOME Shell on focal, but *maybe* that's because Shell is hitting a different bug? If this can be verified to fix PCManFM, Inkscape, or something on focal we can release it and open a new bug for GNOME Shell on Focal. If this *doesn't* fix something on focal, we need to work out why - maybe it needs more changes backported, like bionic did?
