[Bug 1946828] Re: ntfsresize hang and call traces in syslog
When started with option -i, ntfsresize only evaluates the minimal size needed for the stored data. [Bug 1948767] Re: Fail to detect audio output from external monitor
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected focal ** Description changed: [SRU Justification] [Impact] Few recent AMD systems shows "snd_hda_intel :00:1f.3: azx_get_response timeout" and fail to detect the HDMI/DP audio output device when connects to external monitor. It will work magically when re-loading the driver. [Fix] Backport the upstream fix c0f1886de7e1 ("Allow repeatedly probing on codec configuration errors) from 5.15.0 rc. It adds the capability for retrying the probe upon codec probe errors on the certain AMD platforms. [Test] 1. Connect the external monitor to particular affected AMD systems with HDMI or DisplayPort. 2. Go to Audio Settings to check if the HDMI/DP audio output device exist or not. [Where problems could occur] Should be low risk, it adds the chance for retrying codec probe and won't affect machines which used to work. == Original Bug Description == Can not detect DP audio output [Steps to reproduce] 1) install dell-bto-focal-fossa-grimer-rkl-X72-20210929-8.iso and boot into OS 2) switch to on-demand mode 3) connect an external monitor via DP Port 4) check sound setting --> Output Device 5) switch to performance mode 6) check sound setting --> Output Device [Expected result] System can detect DP audio output when external monitor connected [Actual result] Can not detect DP audio output This issue can be reproduce in on-demand and performance mode. [Bug 1948880] Re: libvirt should not use user tss for swtpm
Hi Steve, after just "agreeing and tagging" before I have done an initial check on the case. Tasks: Similar to the .spec file dir ownership needs to be set: %dir %attr(0730, tss, tss) %{_localstatedir}/log/swtpm/libvirt/qemu/ We might want to look at the ALL swtpm related directories being: swtpmLogDir: /var/log/swtpm/libvirt/qemu swtpmStateDir: /run/libvirt/qemu/swtpm swtpmStorageDir: /var/lib/libvirt/swtpm Log and storage are static, but state is /run and thereby needs to be recreated each time. The actually used user is encoded in /etc/libvirt/qemu.conf # User for the swtpm TPM Emulator # # Default is 'tss'; this is the same user that tcsd (TrouSerS) installs # and uses; alternative is 'root' # #swtpm_user = "tss" #swtpm_group = "tss" And we might want to switch that default by changing the config at PKG build time. That most likely also needs a change in the build time self tests and augeas usage at src/qemu/test_libvirtd_qemu.aug.in 113 { "swtpm_user" = "tss" } 114 { "swtpm_group" = "tss" } Finally, so far it didn't exists but right now we should consider adding swtpm as a suggests. Once things are more complete and swtpm MIR is ready (bug 1948748) we can bump this to a recommends then. Next steps once I really get to this (after sprint week): - get a PPA set up with the changes - run various tests with/without PPA - upload to Ubuntu - clarify potential Debian usage - bump to Recommends once MIR is ready ** Changed in: libvirt (Ubuntu) Status: New => Triaged ** Changed in: libvirt (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => High -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1948880 Title: libvirt should not use user tss for swtpm To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libvirt/+bug/1948880/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1646886] Re: smartmontools does not use current notifier
Hi, I hit this very old bug while doing some clearance. Xenial reached EOSS (End of Standard Support) so I'm afraid it can't be fixed. It is unfortunate that we were unable to resolve this defect, however, there appears to be no further action possible at this time because it's not a security bug. On the other hand, I tried to see the smartmontools' behaviour on the current release. After installing, it deploys by default one single script (10mail) in /etc/smartmontools/run.d/ (I suppose to avoid issues like this report is). New scripts are installed from other packages there as it happens with smart-notifier (that creates 60smart-notifier when is installed). For the comment above regarding smart-notifier, I saw this output too and there is a couple of bug reports already filed for this [bug #1673591, bug #1598896] for that different package. So please, feel free to continue there if you or anyone affected consider it necessary. ** Also affects: smartmontools (Ubuntu Xenial) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: smartmontools (Ubuntu Xenial) Status: New => Won't Fix -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1646886 Title: smartmontools does not use current notifier To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/smartmontools/+bug/1646886/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1949029] Re: SSD disappears on Reboot but on cold boot is detected
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1949029/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 1948995] Re: Allow reverting to older revisions of a snap
It is by design that you cannot revert to a snap that you do not already have installed on a system. You can try using `snap list ruby --all` to get all currently installed revisions on your system (but note that only one revision can be "active" at a time), the revisions listed by this command are all the revisions that you can revert to. You can increase the number of revisions that are kept around on a system to ensure that you are more likely to have the previous revision available by setting the refresh.retain system setting. I believe on Desktop/Server this setting defaults to 2, but on Ubuntu Core for example this setting defaults to 3. ** Changed in: snapd (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1948995 Title: Allow reverting to older revisions of a snap To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/snapd/+bug/1948995/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1949029] [NEW] SSD disappears on Reboot but on cold boot is detected
Public bug reported: I have a dual boot system (Windows 10 and Ubuntu 21) Lenovo Z50-70 I upgraded my storage to Samsung 870 QVO 1TB. When I reboot the machine via Windows, the machine reboots normally and SSD is detected. However, when I reboot the machine via Ubuntu, the machine will reboot but it won't detect my SSD. I have upgraded to the latest Ubuntu distro and have the latest kernels, etc... I have validated that my installation and boot partitions are correct. Other people who faced an issue similar to mine were using SSDs with NVME. However, my SSD is using NAND, not NVME so neither applying the fix I found about setting nvme latency nor upgrading distro have solved the problem. On Windows, I had initially the same problem but on Windows after selecting AHCI Standard SATA mode, the issue was solved. On Ubuntu, I'm already in AHCI mode but the problem persists. I did few times grub boot repair to validate if it was something messed up with my boot configurations but turned out that it's not. I'm able to use Ubuntu 21 at the moment. However, I'm unable to perform a reboot. Every time I have to shut down the machine and then manually push the laptop's button to launch it again because if I accidentally hit reboot via Ubuntu, the machine will not find SSD and on next boot, the BIOS falls back into Windows Boot Manager and I have to run grub boot repair all over again via live USB. I hope that you will find a solution for this problem soon. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1949029 Title: SSD disappears on Reboot but on cold boot is detected To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1949029/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1949026] [NEW] System hangs on purple screen
Public bug reported: We are facing an issue that GDM starts with Wayland instead of Xorg, despite of 61-gdm.rules' gdm-disable-wayland for NVIDIA graphics. The issue happens because gdm-disable-wayland is executed after GDM has started. The reason why the udev rules takes so long is because the the runtime suspended NVIDIA GFX takes more than 1 second to runtime resume, hence the driver starts the probing routine rather late. The proper solution is to impose a barrier like systemd-udev-settle.service before GDM, but limits to the GFX device only to avoid waiting for all udev rules are finished. Since such mechanism isn't available right now, workaround the issue by enabling runtime PM after driver is bound to avoid the runtime resume delay, and hope GDM always starts after the probing is done. Please backport below patch to supported nvidia-drivers: https://github.com/tseliot/nvidia-graphics-drivers/pull/41/commits/7e9e4d4a827dc9da0e27058871034245ae4b7508 ** Affects: oem-priority Importance: Critical Assignee: jeremyszu (os369510) Status: Triaged ** Affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-470 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: oem-priority originate-from-1942281 originate-from-1943787 stella ** Tags added: oem-priority originate-from-1942281 stella ** Tags added: originate-from-1943787 ** Changed in: oem-priority Assignee: (unassigned) => jeremyszu (os369510) ** Changed in: oem-priority Importance: Undecided => Critical ** Changed in: oem-priority Status: New => Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1949026 Title: System hangs on purple screen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/oem-priority/+bug/1949026/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1948778] Re: Random flashes in gnome-shell
Wayland is only a communication protocol between the app and the server. The underlying screen updates are implemented by gnome-shell (via libmutter) using KMS. You can make it log LOTS of information by adding this to /etc/environment: MUTTER_DEBUG=kms If you do that and then record a separate log each time a flash happens: journalctl -b0 > anotherflash.txt then that might be useful. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1948778 Title: Random flashes in gnome-shell To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1948778/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1949002] [NEW] can only mount btrfs filesystems with standard crc32c checksum, fails with xxhash, sha256
Public bug reported: I created a new btrfs filesystem like the following: sudo mkfs.btrfs -L cold_storage -f --csum xxhash /dev/sdd1 Mounting it with: sudo mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt/cold_storage Fails with the message: mount: /mnt/cold_storage: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdd1, missing codepage or helper program, or other error. Looking at dmesg | tail I can find the following: [ 1788.813725] BTRFS error (device sdd1): unsupported checksum algorithm: 1 [ 1788.836552] BTRFS error (device sdd1): open_ctree failed The error is the same for the xxhash and sha256 checksums. Only recreating the filesystem with crc32c / omitting the --csum option entirely allows me to mount it afterwards. I tried mounting with and without compression enabled, no difference. [Bug 1923262] Re: backup /etc/passwd- file should be mode 0600
I appreciate you bringing this to our attention, but (as shadow upstream maintainer) I'm going to join John in saying this should be wontfix. Now if you want to change the subject to also making /etc/passwd 600, then as Alexander points out that may be doable and have merit. But just hiding the backup file doesn't make sense, and as it would require extra code in the already fiddly backup code in shadow, there is regression concern. ** Changed in: shadow (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Won't Fix -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1923262 Title: backup /etc/passwd- file should be mode 0600 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shadow/+bug/1923262/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1945590] Re: Thinkpad E14 Gen2: Kernel panic with trackpad and trackpoint enabled
@randomdave, in case you didn't, i think you have to disable the trackpoint as well as the trackpad. some people have reported that just disabling the trackpoint but leaving the trackpad enabled works, but you lose the trackpad buttons and have to configure tap-to-click. for others it only works if you disable both. hope that helps. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1945590 Title: Thinkpad E14 Gen2: Kernel panic with trackpad and trackpoint enabled To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1945590/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
