[Bug 1955001] [NEW] File reading speed is slow

2021-12-15 Thread weihang shi
Public bug reported:

I created the user's home directory on the computer's mechanical hard drive,
but the user's login speed is very slow, and the speed of viewing the file
content in the desktop environment is slow. At the same time, I tested the hard
disk read speed:
 hdparm -Tt /dev/sdb
/dev/sdb:
 Timing cached reads: 23962 MB in 2.00 seconds = 11993.56 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads: 456 MB in 3.00 seconds = 151.78 MB/sec
There is no problem with the read speed of the hard disk.
And when I have a lot of data exchange while running a python program, the
speed used to be 3s, but now it suddenly becomes 30-50s.
The above is when my computer is running well.

[Bug 1954997] [NEW] non-root users can't query LDAP via nslcd starting in 21.04

2021-12-15 Thread Aren Sandersen
Public bug reported:

The core issue is that /var/run/nslcd is created with 750, not 755.

nslcd.postinst creates /var/run/nslcd via adduser:

adduser --system --group --home /var/run/nslcd/ \
--gecos "nslcd name service LDAP connection daemon" \
nslcd

New in Ubuntu 21.04 is that HOME_MODE=750 is in login.defs. Now the
permissions assigned to the /var/run/nslcd directory make it so non-root
users can't communicate with nslcd via /var/run/nslcd/socket (so they
can't run "getent passwd" and get any results from LDAP, for example).

See: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/adduser/+bug/48734

** Affects: nss-pam-ldapd (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1954728] Re: Fix No Screen after login to Desktop on sku with 3840x2400 panel

2021-12-15 Thread Kai-Chuan Hsieh
I test the test kernel built by Koba,
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/10ns_2dnmPRf091L3LABpIh680kStvTk4?usp=sharing

sku: FPA-DVT2-C6
BIOS: 0.0.26

It still have the error in kernel, but the screen can show successfully.
I tried pure 5.14.0-1011-oem, the issue is still reproduced. Therefore,
I think the patch set indeed fix something, but it won't get rid off
"kernel: i915 :00:02.0: [drm] *ERROR* CPU pipe A FIFO underrun:
soft, transcoder," however, my local build drmtip [1] can eliminate the
error message.

[1]
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1nS8Vm1SFLCvPPQJiQdFzthsia_FG6yFC?usp=sharing

@koba

Would you please check if it includes all required patch? Currently, we
have some problem on other platform STRADL-DVT2-C4/C5B, it will cause it
failed to suspend/resume.

[Bug 1954635] Re: subiquity crashes when attempting advanced network/disk configuration

2021-12-15 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
So the (admittedly very obscure) error is that we don't know what to

 N: dm-8
 L: 0
 S: mapper/ventoy
 E: DEVPATH=/devices/virtual/block/dm-8

 E: DM_UDEV_RULES_VSN=2
 E: DM_NAME=ventoy

What is it? I can't tell from this fragment! (Not really sure how you
get a device-mapper device without a DM_UUID entry in udev but maybe I'm
misunderstanding something)

[Bug 1815278] Re: LyX restores the same cursor position wherever it was placed next time(s)

2021-12-15 Thread Konstantin Boyandin
@jmarc No, I have less than 100 files, but some of files are big; as far
as I know, positions are not restored for "sufficiently big" files, say
more than 1000 lines (paragraphs) of text.

If that matters, I can send the session file.

Windows sizes and file tabs sequence are restored correctly, AFAIS.

[Bug 1954575] Re: Ubuntu Server 20.04.3 (manual / autoinstall) keyboard layout not applied in console or decryption

2021-12-15 Thread Flauschie
** Description changed:

I think the manual and autoinstall methods of Ubuntu Server 20.04.3 got
a bug regarding the keyboard / keymap setup. This is not (or maybe could
be) related to the setup where the configured keyboard layout gets
forgotten throughout the different setup screens.

I am installing with a specified keyboard layout but it won't get
recognized until the system fully booted (aka login screen). So in
console or in my case the decryption phase I cannot properly enter my
secret. I think it switches back to the default en_US. I tried calling
`update-initramfs -u` in target (and directly, too) during the late-
commands phase on an autoinstall but it doesn't change anything. It will
only work calling it once the system booted and I'm logged in. After
being regenerated I have the proper keymap for the decryption.

This also happens for a manual install using the live server 20.04.3
image right from source. I define the keyboard / locale in the
appropriate section and it doesn't apply until the system booted.

I can reproduce this in 10/10 cases using the manual install and
  autoinstall method.

  checked:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/subiquity/+bugs?orderby=importance=0
+
+ EDIT: And yes, probably cloud-init is responsible for it to be working
+ on login. But this is simply too late. There is no excuse.

[Bug 1954963] [NEW] tm_isdst=1 with mktime on 20.04 produces unexpected output

2021-12-15 Thread Daniel
Public bug reported:

Package: glibc
Version: 2.31

Use of mktime with tm_isdst=1 results in -1 indicating an error. This
appears unexpected, and cannot be replicated on OS X 11.6.1, Centos 7.9,
Fedora 35, Alpine or RHEL 8.

The issue was first observed on Github Actions ubuntu-latest (20.04).

This issue was originally opened on the CPython bug tracker. They
advised opening a bug report with both Ubuntu and Debian. The bug opened
with Debian can be found here:

The original report with CPython can be found here:

https://bugs.python.org/issue44413

An example C program follows at the end of the bug report, and can be
compiled with “gcc bug.c -o bug”.

An example of execution of the bug, and failure, within a glibc 2.31
environment can be found here:

[Bug 1932522] Re: [needs-packaging] [22.04 FEAT] New package request: libzpc: protected key crypto library (for s390x)

2021-12-15 Thread Brian Murray
*** This is an automated message ***

This bug is tagged needs-packaging which identifies it as a request for
a new package in Ubuntu. As a part of the managing needs-packaging bug
reports specification,
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/Specs/NeedsPackagingBugs, all needs-
packaging bug reports have Wishlist importance. Subsequently, I'm
setting this bug's status to Wishlist.

[Bug 1927192] Re: gdb ftbfs on armhf, testsuite timeouts

2021-12-15 Thread Brian Murray
The version of gdb in focal-proposed built fine with the tests enabled
and the timeouts in the buildlog were not an issue.

[ 3:25PM 11723 ] [ bdmurray@impulse:/tmp ]
 $ cat buildlog_ubuntu-focal-armhf.gdb_9.2-0ubuntu1\~20.04.1_BUILDING.txt |
fgrep '(timeout)'|wc -l9

I don't know what doko's plans are for the upload in the focal-proposed
so won't comment on the block-proposed question.

[Bug 1951988] Re: dpkg-source should fail if maintainer is not ubuntu and DEBEMAIL contains @canonical.com

2021-12-15 Thread Brian Murray
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+ dpkg-source will do a check for a scenario where the maintainer field in
d/control does not contain "ubuntu" and the DEBEMAIL environment variable ends
in @ubuntu.com. There are some Canonical employees that use an @canonical.com
email address instead, so we should expand this check to also trigger on
DEBEMAIL values that end in @canonical.com
+
  [Test Case]
In a source package that doesn't have XSBC-Original-Maintainer set run
  1) DEBEMAIL=br...@canonical.com debuild -i -I -S -d

With version of the dpkg in the release pocket you'll receive a warning,
with the version of the package from -updates you'll instead receive an
  error.

dpkg-source: error: Version number suggests Ubuntu changes, but Maintainer:
does not have Ubuntu address
dpkg-source: info: using options from sed-4.8/debian/source/options:
--single-debian-patch --auto-commit
dpkg-source: info: using source format '3.0 (quilt)'
  dpkg-buildpackage: error: dpkg-source -i.pc* -I.bzr -I.svn -ICVS -I.pc -i -I

debuild: fatal error at line 1182:
  dpkg-buildpackage -us -uc -ui -i.pc* -I.bzr -I.svn -ICVS -I.pc -i -I -S -d
failed

- Original Description
-

in @ubuntu.com. There are some Canonical employees that use an @canonical.com

+ [Other Info]
+ Having every Ubuntu user update dpkg for a change that'll only benefit Ubuntu
developers seems like a bit much. So instead we'll stage this in -proposed and
in the event there is an SRU of dpkg or a security update we'll get this
included.

[Bug 1947810] Re: autopkgtest-satdep.deb unpack fails on Debian images

2021-12-15 Thread Athos Ribeiro
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ dpkg defaults to the zstd compression format for compressing the members
+ in a deb package archive. This compression format is not supported in
+ Debian. Therefore, running autopkgtest from an Ubuntu (21.10) host on a
+ Debian target fails, since autopkgtest uses dpkg-deb to generate the
+ autopkgtest-satdep.deb package.
+
+ [Test Plan]
+
+ For any package with dep8 tests, run
+
+ $ autopkgtest-build-lxd images:debian/sid
+ $ autopkgtest ./. -- lxd autopkgtest/debian/sid/amd64
+
+ and verify it fails with:
+
+ autopkgtest [18:32:17]: build needed for binaries
+ autopkgtest [18:32:24]: ERROR: "dpkg --unpack
/tmp/autopkgtest.4vFMyL/1-autopkgtest-satdep.deb" failed with stderr "dpkg-deb:
error: archive '/tmp/autopkgtest.4vFMyL/1-autopkgtest-satdep.deb' uses unknown
compression for member 'control.tar.zst', giving up
+ dpkg: error processing archive
/tmp/autopkgtest.4vFMyL/1-autopkgtest-satdep.deb (--unpack):
+ dpkg-deb --control subprocess returned error exit status 2
+ Errors were encountered while processing:
+ /tmp/autopkgtest.4vFMyL/1-autopkgtest-satdep.deb
+
+ Then, upgrade the package to the version with the proposed fix and re-
+ run the tests
+
+ $ autopkgtest ./. -- lxd autopkgtest/debian/sid/amd64
+
+ Finally, verify the error no longer occurs.
+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+
+ We will be enforcing the xz compression format. While this is available
+ in dpkg throughout all supported Ubuntu releases, this could become an
+ issue for targets that do not support such compression format. In this
+ case, the change would need to be reverted or changed to a compression
+ format supported by older versions of dpkg (i.e., gz).
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ This have been fixed in jammy on 5.19.
+
+ [Original message]
+
Since impish, dpkg defaults to the zstd compression format for
compressing the members in a deb package archive [1,2].

However Debian zstd support efforts are still in progress [3].

Therefore, running autopkgtest from an Ubuntu (>= 21.10) host on a
Debian target fails, since autopkgtest uses dpkg-deb to generate the
  autopkgtest-satdep.deb package.

For instance, running the following commands for a given package

  $ autopkgtest-build-lxd images:debian/sid
  $ autopkgtest ./. -- lxd autopkgtest/debian/sid/amd64

  results in the following error:

autopkgtest [18:32:17]: build needed for binaries
  autopkgtest [18:32:24]: ERROR: "dpkg --unpack
/tmp/autopkgtest.4vFMyL/1-autopkgtest-satdep.deb" failed with stderr "dpkg-deb:
error: archive '/tmp/autopkgtest.4vFMyL/1-autopkgtest-satdep.deb' uses unknown
compression for member 'control.tar.zst', giving up
  dpkg: error processing archive
/tmp/autopkgtest.4vFMyL/1-autopkgtest-satdep.deb (--unpack):
- dpkg-deb --control subprocess returned error exit status 2
+  dpkg-deb --control subprocess returned error exit status 2
  Errors were encountered while processing:
- /tmp/autopkgtest.4vFMyL/1-autopkgtest-satdep.deb
+  /tmp/autopkgtest.4vFMyL/1-autopkgtest-satdep.deb

[Bug 1728423] Re: [BPO] debhelper/13.5+

2021-12-15 Thread Dan Streetman
this isn't backported in hirsute or impish, as those both already have
debhelper 13, though it's 13.3, not 13.5. I'll mark those releases as
wontfix, but if the 13.5 (or newer) version is needed in hirsute and/or
impish, feel free to reopen them and/or upload backports.

Note that per the backports process, it's not necessary to backport into
interim releases, though it is allowed when needed; and debhelper does
qualify for backporting into interim releases, if needed.

[Bug 1952104] Re: rustc 1.56 and cargo 0.57 to build firefox

2021-12-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package rustc - 1.56.0+dfsg1+llvm-2ubuntu1

---
rustc (1.56.0+dfsg1+llvm-2ubuntu1) jammy; urgency=medium

  * Merge 1.56.0+dfsg1-2 from Debian unstable. (LP: #1952104)
Remaining changes:
- Use the bundled llvm to avoid having to do llvm updates in order to
  deliver rust updates
  - update debian/config.toml.in
  - update debian/control
  - update debian/copyright
  - update debian/rules
- Build-Depend on libc6-dbg on armhf, to workaround a crash in ld.so
  during some debuginfo tests
  - update debian/control
- Add a hack to ensure the stage0 compiler is extracted to the correct
  location
  - update debian/make_orig-stage0_tarball.sh
- Scrub -g from CFLAGS and CXXFLAGS in order to let rustbuild control
whether LLVM is compiled with debug symbols
  - update debian/rules
- On i386, only build debuginfo for libstd
  - update debian/rules
- Ignore all test failures on every architecture
  - update debian/rules
- Version the Build-Conflict on gdb-minimal as gdb now Provides it
  - update debian/control
- Adjust the rustc Breaks/Replaces libstd-rust-dev version to fix an
  upgrade issue
  - update debian/control
- Adjust debian/watch to include +llvm in upstream version.
  - update debian/watch
- Add Build-Depends-Indep: libssl-dev
- Revert workaround for upstream bug #74786
- Disable wasm build as build dependencies not currently available in
  Ubuntu.
- Do not build windows cross compiler.
- Reduce parallelism on all arches other than riscv64 to avoid OOMs
  during build.

[Bug 1954939] [NEW] Cannot open additional instances of the same file with the same name inside a zip archive

2021-12-15 Thread GB
Public bug reported:

This issue is very simple. A zip file can legally contain multiple
entries with the same name in the same path. If you attempt to open a
file that has the same name and path as another, you can only open one
of them, and cannot open the other.

An example zip file has been provided which contains two
`fabric.mod.json` files. If either one of them is double clicked within
file roller, it will only open one of them, and never the other.

example.zip
|
|
fabric.mod.json (2.1kb)
|
fabric.mod.json (484 bytes)

For me, the 484 byte file is always opened, even if you double click the
2.1kb file.

Ubuntu 21.10
file-roller 3.40.0-2

[Bug 1954930] Re: AMD: Suspend not working when some cores are disabled through cpufreq

2021-12-15 Thread You-Sheng Yang
SRU: https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kernel-
team/2021-December/126645.html (oem-5.14/impish/jammy)

** Description changed:

+ [SRU Justification]
+
+ [Impact]
+
+ Detailed in https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/-/issues/1708, taking
+ some cpu cores offline using cpufreq gadgets or via sysfs may hang the
+ system.
+
+ [Fix]
+
+ In v5.16-rc1 commit d6b88ce2eb9d ("ACPI: processor idle: Allow playing
+ dead in C3 state") fixes this issue.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ As stated in aforementioned bug url, setup cpufreq extention to take
+ down a few cpu cores, and trigger system suspend. There are ~50% chances
+ that networking/input/... would hang and the user can only reboot by
+ sysrq keys.
+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+
+ According to the patch discussion thread in
+ https://lore.kernel.org/linux-acpi/20210922133116.102-1-richard.g...@amd.com/,
+ the limitation to allow enter_dead in no more than ACPI_STATE_C2 might
+ not have a practical meaning, but simply C2 was the deepest supported
+ then.
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ While this is currently only available in v5.16-rc1 and affects AMD
+ Cezanne/Barcelo, oem-5.14/impish and jammy are nominated.
+
+ == original bug report ==
+
  https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/-/issues/1708

  Reproduce steps:
  1. Install cpufeq gnome extension
(https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/1082/cpufreq/)
  2. Click on the cpu freq extention in the top bar
  3. Slide the "cores online" from 16 to 3
  4. close lid of laptop

Expected result: the laptop goes into suspend
Actual result: the laptop stay on but screen is now always black and keyboard
input is ignored
