[Bug 1916931] Re: omshell returns inconsistent results or segfaults

2022-02-02 Thread Fabian Goebel
I can also confirm this bug with ubuntu 20.04 and isc-dhcp-server 4.4.1

I use the isc-dhcp-server as part of foreman infrastructure and with
this bug it is not possible to automate the isc-dhcp-server from
foreman.

The Problem was solved for the moment as I just compile the isc-dhcp-
server from source and install it over the package... but this should
not be the long time solution I think..

For whom ever interested this is my solution at this moment:

(I'll add more shortly when on my primary box, either way I'm not
convinced this is a real issue, at most it duplicates the issue/reason I
was trying this install...

** testcase

earlier today a FOCAL.4 install was made to this box; WITH encryption.
this was re-using that partition WITHOUT format. If encryption was not
involved I'm 100% convinced install would work; I'd have music on the box
(added post-QA-install test) & be able to play them `clementine` (again added
post-QA-install test).

this issue is related I believe to the encryption..

IF IT IS related to encryption; I don't think this type of 'upgrade via
reinstall' needs be supported anyway; I'm happy for it to only support
unencrypted disks, HOWEVER I have used this install before with Xubuntu and/or
`ubiquity` without issue though that was NOT a calamares/install encrypted disk

[Bug 1959101] Re: sync/merge krb5

2022-02-02 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
I struggled as well to use that syncpackage behavior right. The time you
trigger the sync is often too far away from the actual migration to
-release to happen. I happened to find my own way around (Not perfect,
but a suggestion).

I call it with --bug and once it has built (but not yet migrated) I say
"y". This adds the nice changelog style info to the bug. Then I go to
the bug and set it back from "Fix Released" to "Fix Committed" saying
that it is in -proposed but we wait for migration to be fully complete.

It is a useful update/info on the bug, but still needs someone to -
potentially much - later close the bug for real.

[Bug 1958439] Re: tpm2-tss: builds against OpenSSL 3.0, but fails on execution

2022-02-02 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
This is a universe package that is IMHO rather important, so without
some care it might end up broken in jammy-release. Thanks to Robert
Reitz for bringing this up here!

I tagged it transition-openssl3-jj as that is just as related as the
other fallout that we know so far.

Since this is cause by the openssl3 transition I wanted have subscribed
@schopin and wanted to ask if he could have a look please?

[Bug 1958439] Re: OpenSSL HMAC mismatch

2022-02-02 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Thanks for the report,
to me that seems to be a consequence of the openssl3 transition [0]

Your hint that upstream master has this fixed seems right to me, I found
these to most likely be related:

https://github.com/tpm2-software/tpm2-tss/commit/e5bb5fb9 Remove

OpenSSL < 1.1.0

with OpenSSL 3.0
https://github.com/tpm2-software/tpm2-tss/commit/f4f528ff FAPI: Change
SHA256_Update to EVP_DigestUpdate
https://github.com/tpm2-software/tpm2-tss/commit/fdc4f481 Require OpenSSL >=
1.1.0

So it is about picking that OR going to 3.2 directly which right now is

[Bug 1226855] Re: Cannot use open-iscsi inside LXC container

2022-02-02 Thread Stéphane Graber
Closing the LXC side of this bug as there's nothing we can really do here.
It's either a kernel issue (needs support for their socket option within a
network namespace) or an open-iscsi issue where they could have some kind of
fallback mechanism.

[Bug 1549391] Re: /proc/sched_debug Information Leak

2022-02-02 Thread Stéphane Graber
Closing as it's not really LXC's job to try and change that one.

These days we'd recommend distros to change default permissions or
ideally get that changed at the kernel level. Short of that, we do have
some documented recommendations in our production environment doc for
LXD: https://linuxcontainers.org/lxd/docs/master/production-setup/

[Bug 1917187] Re: lxc cgroup2: containers unbootable

2022-02-02 Thread Jens Elkner
Hmmm, that's an old one. IIRC the real root cause was, that some files
possibly included via /usr/share/lxc/config/ubuntu.common.conf still
used lxc.cgroup.devices.* instead of lxc.cgroup2.devices.* (the machine
was upgraded from bionic to focal).

[Bug 1959848] Re: "_" not accepted within email addresses for copying

2022-02-02 Thread Erich Eickmeyer 
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Please execute the following command only once, as it will
automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:
apport-collect 1959848

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

-Moreover-

The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it would be nice if
somebody having it could send the bug to the developers of the software
by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1953022] [NEW] refcount leak in pep_sock_accept

2022-02-02 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

You have been subscribed to a public security bug by Seth Arnold (seth-arnold):

sock_hold(sk) is invoked in pep_sock_accept(),but __sock_put() is not
invoked in subsequent failure branches(pep_accept_conn() != 0).

static struct sock *pep_sock_accept(struct sock *sk, int flags, int *errp,
bool kern)
{
struct pep_sock *pn = pep_sk(sk), *newpn;
struct sock *newsk = NULL;
struct sk_buff *skb;
struct pnpipehdr *hdr;
struct sockaddr_pn dst, src;
int err;
u16 peer_type;
u8 pipe_handle, enabled, n_sb;
u8 aligned = 0;
...
newsk = sk_alloc(sock_net(sk), PF_PHONET, GFP_KERNEL, sk->sk_prot,
 kern);
if (!newsk) {
pep_reject_conn(sk, skb, PN_PIPE_ERR_OVERLOAD, GFP_KERNEL);
err = -ENOBUFS;
goto drop;
}
...
sock_hold(sk);< here,sk->sk_refcnt++
newpn->listener = sk;
skb_queue_head_init(>ctrlreq_queue);
newpn->pipe_handle = pipe_handle;
atomic_set(>tx_credits, 0);
newpn->ifindex = 0;
newpn->peer_type = peer_type;
newpn->rx_credits = 0;
newpn->rx_fc = newpn->tx_fc = PN_LEGACY_FLOW_CONTROL;
newpn->init_enable = enabled;
newpn->aligned = aligned;

err = pep_accept_conn(newsk, skb);
if (err) {
sock_put(newsk);< before sock_put(newsk) may need
sk->sk_refcnt--
newsk = NULL;
goto drop;
}
sk_add_node(newsk, >hlist);
drop:
release_sock(sk);
kfree_skb(skb);
*errp = err;
return newsk;
}

My suggestion for the patch:

static struct sock *pep_sock_accept(struct sock *sk, int flags, int *errp,
bool kern)
{
...
err = pep_accept_conn(newsk, skb);
if (err) {
+++ __sock_put(sk);
sock_put(newsk);
newsk = NULL;
goto drop;
}
sk_add_node(newsk, >hlist);
drop:
release_sock(sk);
kfree_skb(skb);
*errp = err;
return newsk;
}

[Bug 1917187] Re: lxc cgroup2: containers unbootable

2022-02-02 Thread Stéphane Graber
The error you're getting is coming from systemd in the container which
for some reason is trying to mount a cgroup1 hierarchy rather than using
cgroup2 like the rest of your system.

You may be able to workaround that by using `lxc.init_cmd` to pass
/sbin/init with additional arguments to change the systemd behavior in
the container.

Yes, that's my take as well. I was going to proposed a patch to do just
that but I decided to see if there was another way to just selectively
copy lib{gcc_s,pthread}. I don't think it's worth the hassle, though.

[Bug 1959841] Re: Lower 8 bits are always zero in stackguard value

2022-02-02 Thread Seth Arnold
Hello, the stack checking is intended to detect simplistic overwrites of
stack control structures. If an attacker is able to overwrite a single
NUL in the canary with a NUL supplied from an input string, but no
further, then the stack control structures are still intact and
undamaged. As far as the stack checking is concerned, this is a success.

The intention of the 'terminator canary' is that it would be difficult
to cause a write with common string functions to go beyond the canary --
they'd stop on the newline, or the NUL, and wouldn't progress beyond
that.

Can you get strcpy() to go beyond the canary, to the control structures?

Thanks

Thanks for the bug report.

So we can understand the main issue and have clear success criteria for
a fix, can you please identify something specific that is too slow?

Maybe also take a video of the problem. You can record the screen to a
video in ~/Videos by pressing Shift+Ctrl+Alt+R to start and stop
recording. Or if that's not enough to show the problem then record a
video with a phone. And attach it here.

[Bug 1959752] Re: ubuntu_kernel_selftests.ftrace:ftracetest fails with bionic:linux 4.15.0-168.176 on s390x

2022-02-02 Thread Luke Nowakowski-Krijger
** Description changed:

- All ftrace tests from selftests are failing with bionic:linux
- 4.15.0-168.176 on s390x:
+ SRU Justification
+
+ [Impact]
+
+ There seems to have been a typo in Commit 85bf17b28f97
+ ("recordmcount.pl: look for jgnop instruction as well as bcrl on s390")
+ that causes errors in finding mcount locations. This seems to cause problems
with ftrace initialization leading to not being able to use ftrace
+ functions.
+
+ [Fix]
+
+ Fix the typo by changing it to the correct instruction.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ Ftrace files in /sys/kernel/debug/tracing should be able to be read from
+ and written to with normal functionality. Ftrace selftests should now
+ pass.
+
+ [Where things could go wrong]
+
+ Its a simple typo fix so none really.

[Bug 1959841] [NEW] Lower 8 bits are always zero in stackguard value

2022-02-02 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

You have been subscribed to a public security bug by Seth Arnold (seth-arnold):

Lower 8bits are always zero in stack guard value, which makes stack
protector cannot detect the following stack smashing:

```
#include
int get_input(char *data)
{
strcpy(data, "01234567");
return 0;
}
// main.c
#include
#include
void *__stack_chk_guard = (void *)0xdeadbeef;
void __stack_chk_fail(void)
{
fprintf(stderr, "Stack smashing detected.\n");
exit(1);
}
void get_input(char *data);
char main(void)
{
char buffer[8] = { 0 };
get_input(buffer);
return buffer[0];
}
```

When I look into the problem with gdb, fs:0x28 (stack guard value) has always
lower 8 bits like
```
0x007fffe190│+0x: 0x0d ("\r"?)   ← $rsp
0x007fffe198│+0x0008: 0x3fd2300ef2282e00 <-
0x007fffe1a0│+0x0010: 0x0001 ← $rbp
0x007fffe1a8│+0x0018: 0x0077db6fd0  →  <__libc_start_call_main+128> mov
edi, eax
0x007fffe1b0│+0x0020: 0x004040  →   (bad)
0x007fffe1b8│+0x0028: 0x00519e  →   endbr64
0x007fffe1c0│+0x0030: 0x0001
0x007fffe1c8│+0x0038: 0x007fffe2c8  →  0x007fffe577  →
"/home/sukbeom/Workspace/arm/stack_protector/sp"
```

I don't know much about stack protector but I think this should be
fixed. So I report this as a bug related to stack protector to get more
information. Please let me know if there is anything wrong with my
report.

I attach my system information:

[Bug 1959850] Re: Network printer suddenly stopped working, cannot be accessed using zeroconf anymore

2022-02-02 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1959850/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you

[Bug 1910927] Re: Suspend stopped working since kernel 5.4 (ubuntu 20.04)

2022-02-02 Thread Robert A. Lerche
Recently I installed Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS on an old Lenovo laptop (T61p).
I was disappointed to discover that suspend did not work (as described
in this report, black screen and no way to recover). I tried two
version 5 kernels (5.13.0-27-generic and 5.8.0-43-generic).

As a wild guess I downloaded 4.19.0-041900-generic and suspend works for
me with that kernel.

I would prefer to run a newer kernel but I need suspend.

[Bug 1959581] Re: OCFS2 intermittently not mountable on a second Node in Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS

2022-02-02 Thread Sergio Durigan Junior
Thanks for the bug report, Norbert.

First of all, I noticed that the ocfs2-tools package contains a delta
relative to the Debian package. The delta is trivial, though, and is
there just to make sure the package is built only on support
architectures (see bug #1745155 for more details). I don't think it is
what's causing this bug.

Debian itself carries a few distro-specific patches. Upon inspecting
them, I don't think they're directly related to this issue either. So
we're left with two possibilities here:

1) This is an upstream bug (which may have been fixed meanwhile), or

2) This is a bug elsewhere (Linux kernel, maybe?)

I did some research on the internet and found some interesting things.

First, I found that it's really hard to obtain the list of patches that
have been applied to a package on Oracle [GNU/]Linux! I knew that
theoretically already, but now I have seen it for real. Anyway, I was
trying to take a look at their package to see if anything
strange/interesting came up.  No deal.

Then, I decided to do a search for some terms from your bug
descriptions. It caught my attention that you were able to provide a
stack trace (thanks, by the way!), so I tried searching for one of the
functions listed there. And I did find something interesting:

https://support.oracle.com/knowledge/Oracle%20Linux%20and%20Virtualization/2375753_1.html

Both the descript of the problem (high I/O wait) and the stack trace
provided in the link above match what you're seeing. I don't have an
Oracle account so I can't see the rest of the article, but I'm assuming
you do, so could you please take a look and see if there is anything
useful for you there?

Meanwhile, I'm going to mark this bug as Incomplete (which is the
closest we have to a "Waiting" state). When you have more information,
please mark it as New again.

Thanks.
