[Bug 1962344] Re: fprintd fails to start through core-dump
I found the issue, I had this installed from the Dell repo for 20.04 LTS: libfprint-2-tod1-goodix more specifically: libfprint-2-tod1-goodix_0.0.6-0ubuntu1_somerville1_amd64.deb This worked great with 20.04 and the fprintd version in there, but apparently it breaks the current version. [Bug 1960621] Re: MATE Desktop session fails to start with NVIDIA 495 & 510 drivers
It turns out that I may have misunderstood - the same thing happens for me when telling MATE Tweak that I want to use Compiz rather than Marco as my window manager. The switch to Compiz certainly happens (I am reminded of why I stopped using it..) and it is sticky between reboots. So either it's not just a Marco thing or some part of Marco is retained when using Compiz. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1960621 Title: MATE Desktop session fails to start with NVIDIA 495 & 510 drivers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/marco/+bug/1960621/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1962166] Re: DEP8 failing with samba 4.15.5
I investigated this bug and found that it's possibly a regression introduced in the 4.15.x series of Samba. In a nutshell, Samba offers guest authentications (i.e., when username/password are provided but are ignored by libsmbclient, which will map the request to the Guest user configured on smb.conf), and anonymous authentication (i.e., when the username/password are empty; this is equivalent to invoking smbclient with -N). I found that, on Samba 4.13.14 (currently in the -release pocket on Jammy), it is possible to perform an anonymous authentication using an empty password (specific via the PASSWD environment variable) and an empty user (specified via smbclient's -U option, but without actually providing a user). However, on Samba 4.15.5 (curent in the -proposed pocket on Jammy), this exact scenario doesn't work anymore. backuppc will invoke smbclient exactly as described above, and that's what's triggering the problem. But it's possible to reproduce the problem without backuppc: $ lxc launch ubuntu-daily:jammy samba-bug1962166 $ lxc shell samba-bug1962166 # apt update && apt full-upgrade -y # apt install samba smbclient -y # cat >> /etc/samba/smb.conf << EOF [test] path = /srv/test read only = yes guest ok = yes browseable = yes EOF # mkdir /srv/test # systemctl reload smbd.service # PASSWD="" smbclient localhost\\test -U -L Try "help" to get a list of possible commands. smb: \> Now, enable the -proposed repository inside the container, update samba and run the same command again. You will see: # PASSWD="" smbclient localhost\\test -U -L Password for [WORKGROUP\-L]: smbclient doesn't recognize the empty user anymore; instead, it assumes that the username is "-L", which is obviously wrong. Arguably, this method of authentication is very fragile (it relies on an obscure way to parse the command line arguments and identify that "-U" without a valid username in front of it actually means an empty user) and it could be said that it is backuppc's responsibility to identify when the samba share's user/password are empty and invoke smbclient with -N. However, it is not entirely clear to me whether this was an intentional change of behaviour or not, so I went ahead and filed an upstream bug explaining the situation to them. Hopefully we will get more pointers. Meanwhile, I have a simple workaround that makes backuppc's autopkgtest pass again. Basically, we just need to actually provide a non-empty username/password combination when authenticating (it doesn't need to be valid data; anything will do); smbclient will then fall back to the guest authentication explained above. I will file an MP soon. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1962166 Title: DEP8 failing with samba 4.15.5 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/samba/+bug/1962166/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1960264] Re: 503 errors for Jammy PPAs
I can confirm that acng running the version in jammy triggers the problem with PPA in the clients it serves (which may or may not be running jammy). Going by the fact that the version from impish when installed on jammy does not have this problem and runs fine otherwise, it looks like a regression. Maybe it's best to downgrade the version in jammy back to the one from impish until a solution can be found. I'd to see an LTS see the light of day with this regression. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1960264 Title: 503 errors for Jammy PPAs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt-cacher-ng/+bug/1960264/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1960636] Re: glance charm does not set glance-api service as enabled on boot
This does not affect the yoga glance package. It seems to be limited to wallaby and xena. Looking at glance in xena-updates: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-cloud-archive/+archive/ubuntu/xena-updates/+packages It was built with debhelper 13.3.4ubuntu2~cloud0: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-cloud-archive/+archive/ubuntu/xena-proposed/+build/22258895 There's since been a new debhelper available that includes changes to systemd postinst enabling: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/debhelper/13.5.2ubuntu1~bpo20.04.1 So we may just need some package rebuilds. [Bug 1962053] Re: Modules missing from package install
No problem, probably my fault - I only know enough to be dangerous - not useful, so I'm just following along word for word learning as a I go. All the steps up to step 4 (find /lib/modules...) completed as expected and the find command did list the expected /netfilter directory beneath /ipv4 amongst many others - I didn't check file for file that all files in the package were listed on the disk because there were too many. But I did check specifically for ip_tables.ko and it was there list where it hadn't been previously. All the steps up to step 4 (find /lib/modules...) completed as expected and the find command did list the expected /netfilter directory beneath /ipv4 amongst many others - I didn't check file for file that all files in the package were listed because there were too many. But I did check specifically for ip_tables.ko and it was there list where it hadn't been previously. The bad news is that after the reboot the files couldn't be found: ubuntu@aitu20pi42:~$ ls /lib/modules/5.13.0-1017-raspi/kernel/net/ipv4 gre.ko udp_tunnel.ko we're back to just gre.ko and upd_tunnel.ko and no sign of /netfilter or any of the other files and directories. before.dmesg should be attached with this comment - couldn't see a way to add two files at the same time so I'll add after.dmesg after I've posted this. I haven't done the apport-collect process before but it seemed to work - selected option S - Send report and it seemed to complete Only problem I can see with Apport-collect is that it says to complete the form in the automatically opened browser - that might have worked apart from this is a server install - so no desktop and no browser - hopefully though the browser only opens for newly created bugs - not when attaching to existing bug reports. If it hasn't worked then please let me know and I'll try that again. There's no SD card I'm using a 240GB Western Digital M2 SSD in an Argon One M.2 case - but still there could be weird issue with the SSD I guess - but seems strange that the files should be there before sync and reboot and gone after. Please let me know what you want me try next. ** Attachment added: "sudo dmesg > before.dmesg // before reboot" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-raspi/+bug/1962053/+attachment/5563775/+files/before.dmesg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1962053 Title: Modules missing from package install To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-raspi/+bug/1962053/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1962053] Re: Modules missing from package install
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected arm64-image impish raspi-image uec- images ** Description changed: Sorry I'm new to Ubuntu but I have been trying to get microK8s to work on my Raspi Pi4/8Gb for a while now - the instructions are simple enough and I have K8s and Docker running and working on other OS so... But no matter what I try I can't get a stable set of services running. Having investigated this I think the problem could be something to do with this: The microk8s inspect command reports iptables/1.8.7 Failed to initialize nft: Protocol not supported ERROR: Couldn't determine iptables version Following various threads on the internet people suggest checking if iptables is part of the kernel or a module ubuntu@aitu20pi42:~$ grep -i iptables /boot/config-$(uname -r) CONFIG_IP_NF_IPTABLES=m CONFIG_IP6_NF_IPTABLES=m # iptables trigger is under Netfilter config (LED target) So checking if the iptables module is installed / present ubuntu@aitu20pi42:~$ modinfo ip_tables modinfo: ERROR: Module ip_tables not found. ubuntu@aitu20pi42:~$ modprobe ip_tables modprobe: FATAL: Module ip_tables not found in directory /lib/modules/5.13.0-1017-raspi From the package file list and what I have read I would expect to find a file /lib/modules/5.13.0-1017-raspi/kernel/net/ipv4/netfilter/ip_tables.ko But in fact there are only these two modules in /net/ipv4 ubuntu@aitu20pi42:~$ ls /lib/modules/5.13.0-1017-raspi/kernel/net/ipv4 gre.ko udp_tunnel.ko there is no netfilter directory in either /ipv4 or /ipv6 or /bridge ubuntu@aitu20pi42:~$ ls /lib/modules/5.13.0-1017-raspi/kernel/net/ipv6 ip6_tunnel.ko ip6_udp_tunnel.ko tunnel6.ko. While trying to resolve my problem I came across suggestions that said to try reinstalling the linux-modules package (because that's where they are?) so I've tried with linux-modules-5.13.0-1016-raspi and I've just upgraded to linux- modules-5.13.0-1017-raspi to no avail. I also came across this Bug #1942691 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-raspi/+bug/1942691 and while I appreciate they are missing a different module; rpi-poe-fan, some of what they describe; "I can['t] even find it under the relevant path in /lib/modules." and "If I do not put the module in /etc/initramfs-tools/modules the module will not be there after a reboot (e.g. remove from the filesystem). And this is so for a lot of the other modules. I am booting from iSCSI and even the NFS modules are gone. As far as I know this wasn't the case in previous version." So I'm wondering if these issues are related and my problem is perhaps part of a wider problem? I know my problem originally manifested itself as an issue with microk8s and I'm not convinced that it is solely down to a missing ip_tables modules but I don't think its just a microk8s problem because if I try to do anything with the firewall for example ubuntu@aitu20pi42:~$ sudo ufw status ERROR: Couldn't determine iptables version or ubuntu@aitu20pi42:~$ sudo iptables -P FORWARD ACCEPT iptables/1.8.7 Failed to initialize nft: Protocol not supported I get the same problem but ufw is just a wrapper around iptables and since ufw is installed it seems reasonable to expect that its dependencies are installed also. I'm obviously not a linux expert but I'm not alone in thinking that I should be able to find a whole bunch of *.ko files beneath /lib/modules/**/ or more than I can presently. If you need any more information from me, to investigate this further, then please let me know what commands to run and I'll report back what I find. System info below. [Bug 1962340] [NEW] Printer rarely actually prints after processing the file.
Public bug reported: My printer is a Brother HL-L2320D laser printer connected via USB with no option for wifi-printing as it's not supported by this printer. It is connected via a USB 3.0 port on my laptop. I'm logged in via regular user, not admin. It is odd that it acts as though it's going to print, then when it's done processing it just disappears from the print que as if the print has been completed. This isn't specific to my Brother printer. I also had this problem with an HP printer prior to replacing the old HP printer. I had this happen in Lubuntu and also in Ubuntu. Description:Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS Release:20.04 cups: Installed: 2.3.1-9ubuntu1.1 Candidate: 2.3.1-9ubuntu1.1 Version table: *** 2.3.1-9ubuntu1.1 500 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal-updates/main amd64 Packages 500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal-security/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 2.3.1-9ubuntu1 500 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal/main amd64 Packages I expected my files to print, but they didn't. I did successfully print two of the 6 documents, but what's different about them versus the others, I have no idea. I tried printing via Eye of MATE (which was the default program to open some of the files), and I tried printing them via Firefox, and another file via Libre Office Writer. LO Writer won't print. Eye of Mate won't print. Firefox won't print. I restarted cups via the terminal with "service cups restart" and tried printing via Eye of MATE. It didn't work. I then tried to print via LO Writer. Of the six page document, only the first page printed. What the heck is going on? I then exported that Writer document (which was saved both as .odt and as .docx (neither would print properly or at all) as PDF and opened that with Atril Document Viewer, and it also wouldn't print. It acted like it was processing then disappeared from the Document Printer Status window as if it had completed. Clicking the checkbox it appears as though it was completed. I've never had so many problems trying to print before. I know it's not specific to HP printers, because it's my current printer that's behaving the same way as my old HP and this is Brother. I hoped restarting cups again would fix it, it has not. Switching to a USB 2.0 port didn't resolve the problem. [Bug 1860284] Re: thinkpad thunderbolt 3 dock gen2 with pci memory allocation errors on Yoga C940 unless plugged in before boot
I'm also affected by this bug on 20.04 with the HWE 5.13 kernel (currently: 5.13.0-30-generic #33~20.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Mon Feb 7 14:25:10 UTC 2022 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux). My PCIe Thunderbolt card (ASUS ThunderboltEX 4, Intel JHL8540 controller) only partially works: the USB part works and USB devices plugged into the dock are recognised and functional (including the dock's built-in Ethernet interface), however there is no video signal coming from the dock's DisplayPort ports. [Bug 1962332] [NEW] xenial systemd fails to start if cgroup2 is mounted
Public bug reported: [impact] now that jammy has moved to using unified cgroup2, containers started on jammy must also use unified cgroup2 (since the cgroup subsystems can only be mounted as v1 or v2 throughout the entire system, including inside containers). However, the systemd in xenial does not include support for cgroup2, and doesn't recognize its magic (added in upstream commit 099619957a0), so it fails to start completely. [test case] create a jammy system, that has unified cgroup2 mounted. Then: $ lxc launch ubuntu:xenial test-x ... $ lxc shell test-x (inside xenial container): $ mv /sbin/init /sbin/init.old $ cat > /sbin/init <+a q Failed to mount cgroup at /sys/fs/cgroup/systemd: Operation not permitted [!!] Failed to mount API filesystems, freezing. Freezing execution. [regression potential] any regression would likely break xenial containers from starting at all, or cause cgroup-related problems with systemd starting and/or managing services. [scope] this is needed only for xenial. However, as xenial is out of standard support, this would need to be an exception. this is fixed upstream with commit 099619957a0 (and possibly others - needs closer investigation and testing) which is first included in v230, so this is fixed already in f and later. this is not needed - by default - for trusty because upstart is used there; however, I think it's possible to change trusty over to use systemd instead of upstart. But since trusty is out of standard support, and it doesn't fail by default, it doesn't seem like it should be fixed. [other info] An alternative appears to be to change the host system back to using the 'hybrid' cgroup, however that obviously is awful and would remove the benefits of cgroup v2 from the host system, and force all containers on the host system to also use the 'hybrid' cgroup. ** Affects: systemd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Fix Released ** Affects: systemd (Ubuntu Xenial) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: systemd (Ubuntu Xenial) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: systemd (Ubuntu) Status: New => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1962332 Title: xenial systemd fails to start if cgroup2 is mounted To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1962332/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
