[Bug 1947046] Re: EFI stub: ERROR: FIRMWARE BUG: kernel image not aligned on 64k boundary

2022-03-10 Thread Akihiro Suda
According to reports in https://github.com/lima-vm/lima/issues/712 ,
this issue seems also affecting Impish kernel 5.13.0-35.40 and Focal
kernel 5.4.0-103.117 .

Could you backport the fix to Impish and Focal, and release a new cloud
image (https://cloud-images.ubuntu.com/releases/) ?

Thanks Christian for your quick answer!

I just stumbled across a similar issue (https://gitlab.com/qemu-
project/qemu/-/issues/798) which got closed with 'intended behavior'.

This issue can be closed, I guess.

[Bug 1964488] Re: Qemu fails with daemonize and enabled elevateprivileges

2022-03-10 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi Raphael,
Thank you for your report - I can confirm your finding and agree that it would
be nicer to either work or be better documented.

The change introducing it was first in v6.0.0 and thereby Impish and
later are affected (I updated the bug tasks to reflect hat).

This case isn't Ubuntu only and IMHO not severe enough to add patches on
top of just our builds. The best path forward I'd think is to report the
very same upstream [1] and report the opened issue here. We can then
track an upstream fix to this and apply it to Ubuntu as well from there.

[Bug 1964488] Re: Qemu fails with daemonize and enabled elevateprivileges

2022-03-10 Thread Raphael Pour
** Description changed:

Qemu fails silently with exit code 1 when using daemonize and the
sandbox option elevateprivileges=deny. This behavior got introduced by
0546c0609cb5a8d90c1cbac8e0d64b5a048bbb19 where the sandbox options gets
parsed and enforced *before* daemonizing. Since the os_daemonize libc-
call uses the syscall setsid, qemu gets killed by the signal 13
  (SIGSYS).
+
+ The documentation
+ (https://qemu.readthedocs.io/en/latest/system/security.html#isolation-
+ mechanisms) states that sanboxing "[...] disables system calls that are
+ not needed by QEMU[...]", but setsid obviously is needed.

  What I expected:
  - a hint in the documentation of the flags that elevateprivileges AND
daemonize contradict -or-
  - working combination

  Reproducer:
  $ qemu-system-x86_64 -sandbox on,elevateprivileges=deny -daemonize

[Bug 1963701] Re: [NVIDIA][Wayland] graphic target not able to reach as the only monitor connect to NV GPU only on I+N machine

2022-03-10 Thread jeremyszu
Hi Daniel,

yes, in hybrid system, different BIOS have their own way to configure
it. We just need to make sure the memory point of efifb passed from BIOS
is correct one and it's correct in this case, the boot_vga is dGPU.

I'll risk this issue on upstream to discuss and share the upstream bug
here.

[Bug 1964560] Re: file transfers have trouble finishing

2022-03-10 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Flash drives are usually very slow devices. Next time a transfer has
trouble finishing please open a Terminal window and run:

  sync

If the command returns immediately then this is a Nautilus bug. If the
command does not return until the file transfer finishes then this is
either a kernel bug or just the slowness of the flash drive.

[Bug 1964560] [NEW] file transfers have trouble finishing

2022-03-10 Thread androo
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 21.10 with wayland windowing system sits on completed file
transfers on and off usb and takes its time realising its finished and
closing the little transfer progress logo.

running an HP elitedesk 800 G1 SFF with 16gb ram, i5 4690 cpu and an HD
4600 onboard graphics card.

It's either the linux system or old flash drives causing it. Don't think
its the circuit boards.

2022-03-10 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on
Libera.chat.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1964557/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

2022-03-10 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Please still follow the steps in comments #2 and #3. Although something
else stands out - that you're using the nouveau kernel driver. Nouveau
is prolific for kernel crashes, freezes, and other bugs. So ideally
please use the 'Additional Drivers' app to install a proprietary Nvidia
driver instead.

[Bug 1964539] Re: 42beta: screen unlock gets stuck on primary display, secondary display is unlocked

2022-03-10 Thread Matthew Ruffell
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected package-from-proposed third-party-
packages wayland-session

** Description changed:

  [Impact]

Occasionally, when the screen has been locked for a medium length of
time, > 5 mins, when you press the spacebar, enter your password, the
primary display freezes and the lockscreen slider does not slide up. The
secondary screen is fine, and unlocks.

See screenshot for what it looks like.

You can click, interact with the secondary screen. On the primary
screen, you can super key and launch an application, but you won't be
able to interact with it. You can't see what you are doing.

The way to fix is to re-lock the screen, wait a bit, and attempt to
unlock. Sometimes you won't be able to unlock immediately, as it is
difficult to get the monitor to power on again, it appears gnome-shell
does not send the wakeup signal.

  gnome-shell 42~beta-1ubuntu2 from -proposed.

Matthew, yes, the missing Settings link was basically an Ubuntu

I believe you would need to log out and log back in after installing

[Bug 1964546] [NEW] 1Password doesn't integrate with Firefox Snap

2022-03-10 Thread Marcos Alano
Public bug reported:

I use for sometime now 1Password for Linux on Ubuntu. 1Password
integrates with the 1Password Firefox extension, but just when using Deb
version. The most visible integration is to unlock via browser
extension, which calls the desktop application to enter the password.
The Firefox Snap doesn't have this integration yet, probably because the
extension can't talk with the desktop application. The problem is in
Jammy-proposed is forcing to adopt Firefox Snap version, but I want to
keep using Firefox Deb version until this problem is fixed, so one of
two ways: or we find a way to integrate 1Password desktop app with
Firefox Snap or create a package alternative to people who want to keep
using Firefox Deb for this or any other limitation of Firefox Snap.

[Bug 1961697] Re: Transaction ID collisions cause slow DNS lookups in getaddrinfo

2022-03-10 Thread KJ Tsanaktsidis
It's definitely non-deterministic, unfortunately. I do have a reliable
reproduction for Bionic and Focal I can trigger on my laptop, but it's a
huge pile of proprietary Ruby code that just happens to hit all the
right timings on my machine. I can validate a -proposed package if you
need though.

The reproduction instructions basically boil down to "Have IPv6, call
getaddrinfo(), and if you're unlucky, it will take > 5 seconds and make
4 DNS queries instead of two".

There is also a test case provided in the upstream glibc patch that
could also be applied.

[Bug 1964537] Re: Synaptics touchpad not detected on HP Laptop Model 17-cn0078cl

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1964537/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]
