[Bug 1962843] Re: Guest OS customization fail for ubuntu 22.04 desktop in vsphere due to adding 'shutdown.target' in file /usr/lib/systemd/system/systemd-networkd.socket

2022-03-30 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Pengpeng/Yuhua - I have internally asked (at the same time I added the tag a
few days ago) for someone to look after it.
Nothing happened yet, so I pinged again.

In preparation of this - since most of Ubuntu developers won't have a
vsphere around to reproduce this. Is there any other way to expose this
problem?

Thank you Lena, but due to time - unless they release super-fast - let
us prepare and add this with delta right away once the beta freeze is
lifted (today/tomorrow).

[Bug 1967219] Re: Wayland: Cursor is 90° rotated on rotated screen

2022-03-30 Thread Vadym Abramchuck
** Description changed:

  I have a multi-screen setup with one of the displays being rotated
  (Portrait Right in Displays settings).

  Since upgrading to Jammy the cursor gets 90° rotated after being moved
  from a landscape to the rotated screen.

  This seems to be happening only in Overview or if cursor is hovered over
  the desktop. Hovering cursor over the application window (e.g. Terminal)
  would reset the rotation; however, after being moved back to the
  landscape screen, the cursor gets rotated again (but now in an opposite
  direction).

  This doesn't happen on Xorg and it wasn't happening on impish (wayland).
+ This doesn't happen if desktop icons NG extension is enabled.

  Steps to reproduce:

- 1) Set up two screens, (1) being rotated and (2) in normal Landscape position.
- 2) Move cursor to (2), it should be in normal position.
- 3) Move cursor to (1).
+ 1) Disable DING extension.
+ 2) Set up two screens, (1) being rotated and (2) in normal Landscape position.
+ 3) Move cursor to (2), it should be in normal position.
+ 4) Move cursor to (1).
  Expected: the cursor is in normal position.
  Actual: the cursor is rotated 90° CW.
- 4) Open the application, move it to (1), hover the cursor over it.
+ 5) Open the application, move it to (1), hover the cursor over it.
  The cursor would go back to the normal position again.
- 5) Move the cursor to (2)
+ 6) Move the cursor to (2)
  Expected: the cursor is in normal position.
  Actual: the cursor is rotated 90° CCW. As in the previous case, hovering
cursor over the application window fixes it's rotation.

  Additional notes: sometimes the dead cursor copy stays near the screen
  edge after cursor is being moved to a different screen.

Original problem continues with kernel 5.15.0-23, but there is more than
a screenful of fb output in what appears to be 1024x768 mode before
lockup on switch to i915. Xorg is working normally with only one
connected display.

[Bug 1966981] Re: [hwol] centralized gateway NAT non-functional

2022-03-30 Thread Frode Nordahl
** Summary changed:

- Gateway router NAT non-functional for OVN 22.03
+ [hwol] centralized gateway NAT non-functional

** Summary changed:

- [hwol] centralized gateway NAT non-functional
+ [hwol] centralized gateway NAT mangles source address

** Description changed:

- I currently do not have all the details, but I do know that OVN 21.12
- and 22.03 brings a regression as to how NAT is processed for CMS'es that
- make use of gateway routers, such as OpenStack.
+ When hardware offload is enabled, CMS configures gateway routers and
+ centralized NAT, the source address of packets flowing through the
+ gateway are mangled after the connection preamble, not allowing the
+ connection to form.

- We've tracked the regression down to a single commit [0].
+ When disabling hardware offload completely the problem goes away.
+
+ Running ovn-northd without [0] also makes the problem go away.

[Bug 1966066] Re: audio from external sound card is distorted

2022-03-30 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Patch sent:
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kernel-team/2022-March/129063.html

** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+ Commit d215f63d49da ("ALSA: usb-audio: Check available frames for the
+ next packet size") landed in 5.13.0-35 introduced regression to USB
+ audio device.
+
+ It's because this patch introduced the available frame size check, but
+ the conversion forgot to initialize the temporary variable properly.
+
+ A workaround is to modify /etc/pulse/daemon.conf, set the
+ default-sample-rate to 48000, uncomment it by removing the semicolon
+ at the beginning of the line. And restart pulseaudio with:
+   systemctl --user restart pulseaudio.service
+
+ [Fix]
+ * 23939115 ALSA: usb-audio: Fix packet size calculation regression
+ This patch can be cherry-picked into Impish kernel, and it's already in
+ the master-next branch of Jammy tree.
+
+ [Test]
+ Test kernels built with 5.13.0-37 + this patch, can be found in:
+ * Focal-5.13 -
https://people.canonical.com/~phlin/kernel/lp-1966066-usb-audio/focal/
+ * Impish-5.13 -
https://people.canonical.com/~phlin/kernel/lp-1966066-usb-audio/impish/
+
+ Both kernels were tested by affected users and they're working as
+ expected.
+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+ If this patch is incorrect, it might affect USB audio devices.
+
+
+ [Original Bug Report]
  The sound card is a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2.

  The sound is distorted everywhere.

  Sound via HDMI works.

[Bug 1966591] Re: ssh-keygen -R changes known_hosts file permissions (mode)

2022-03-30 Thread Sergio Durigan Junior
Thanks for the bug report Evgeny and for the initial investigation,
Lena.

The following commit "fixes" the issue:

commit f2d84f1b3fa68d77c99238d4c645d0266fae2a74
Author: d...@openbsd.org
AuthorDate: Wed May 13 09:55:57 2020 +
Commit: Damien Miller
CommitDate: Wed May 27 10:09:19 2020 +1000

I say "fixes" because it doesn't do exactly what Evgeny is asking in the
bug description; that is, it doesn't make ssh-keygen preserve *all* of
the permission bits. Instead, with the commit above applied we see that
ssh-keygen in Focal/Bionic start behaving exactly like what we see in
Impish/Jammy, and the group/all *read* permissions are preserved, but
not the (e.g.) execute permission. We can see that on the output that
Lena pasted.

Either way, preserving the "read" permission bits for group/all and
dropping everything else is done on purpose, as can be seen on this
excerpt (from ssh-keygen.c:do_known_hosts):

...
fchmod(fd, sb.st_mode & 0644);
...

I have already backported & tested the patch on Bionic, and it works. I will
start filing MPs tomorrow.

[Bug 1967205] [NEW] Lenovo laptop doesn't wake from sleep with kernel newer than 5.13.0-27-generic

2022-03-30 Thread Cale
Public bug reported:

Issue: When closing the lid, my Lenovo 6 laptop goes to sleep, but when
opening the lid the laptop will not wake from sleep when using a kernel
newer than 5.13.0-27-generic. Pressing keys or the power button also
does not wake the laptop from sleep.

Expected behavior: The laptop should wake from sleep when opening the
laptop lid when using the newest kernel.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Boot laptop using kernel 5.13.0-27-generic
2. Close lid to put laptop to sleep
3. Open laptop lid and see laptop resume from sleep
4. Boot laptop with kernel newer than 5.13.0-27-generic
5. Close lid to put laptop to sleep
6. Open laptop lid and see laptop never resumes from sleep

Work around: Hold the power button until laptop powers off. Press the
power button again to power on the laptop

[Bug 1964724] Re: the laptop is slowing down I suspect the graphics

2022-03-30 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report.

You seem to be using graphics packages that are not from Ubuntu, but
from the "oibaf" PPA. That's unsupported and known to cause bugs like
this.

Please remove the PPA from your system and then open new bugs if you
encounter further problems.

[Bug 1967204] [NEW] "help" app (yelp) just displays a blank window with "Ubuntu Desktop Guide" title on rpi

2022-03-30 Thread Paul Larson
Public bug reported:

I'm using the jammy beta (20220329) image running on an rpi4 8GB
clicking on the "help" app in the dock launches a window with the title "Ubuntu
Desktop Guide". The icons for forward/back, bookmarks, search, etc. are all
visible at the top of the window, but everything else in the window is just a
blank white area. On amd64, however, it seems to work fine.

I also noticed that if I move the mouse around through the area, the
pointer sometimes changes, and if I hover there for a second, a tooltip
comes up with things like "Start applications" or "Visual overview of
Gnome". I can click on these and it seems to take me forward to
something, because the back icon is no longer greyed out, but I still
can't see any content in the window.

[Bug 1965686] Re: After the laptop comes out of sleep mode, the desktop environment for some reason breaks and appears crashes window

2022-03-30 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 1931902] Re: [AMD Ellesmere] Crackling sound on Pulseaudio

2022-03-30 Thread Matheus Reich
@ppq

I've actually been able to determine what the issue was. The speech-
dispatcher package is the one causing issues. It is possible to
uninstall it from any Ubuntu installation (or Ubuntu-based distros). But
to make sure that indeed this is what is causing the issue in your case,
try to run this command on your Terminal:

speech-dispatcher -K

And check if the crackling noise will go away. If it does, uninstall it
using apt:

sudo apt remove speech-dispatcher (or replace remove with autoremove if
you want to also uninstall any packages related to speech-dispatcher).

It seems that this package will stop behaving correctly after some time
with the system running, and will interfere with everything that
pulseaudio will output.

[Bug 1890263] Re: release upgrade does not move to the new php apache mod

2022-03-30 Thread Bryce Harrington
Here we should note that some pieces come from phpM.N, others from php-
common:

$ pkg-source php-common
php-defaults

$ pkg-source libapache2-mod-php
php-defaults

$ pkg-source libapache2-mod-php7.2
php7.2

$ pkg-source libapache2-mod-php7.4
php7.4

$ pkg-source libapache2-mod-php8.0
php8.0

$ pkg-source libapache2-mod-php8.1
php8.1

So, the fix for this issue will require updates to php-defaults on each
release, and updates to the phpM.N package specific to each release.

[Bug 1890263] Re: release upgrade does not move to the new php apache mod

2022-03-30 Thread Bryce Harrington
Earlier I had speculated:

> I wonder if there needs to be a dependency added for the
> libapache2-mod-php virtual package.

However I don't think this will work as a solution, because already we
have libapache2-mod-php depending on libapache2-mod-phpM.N, so adding a
dependency in the opposite direction as well, would cause circular
dependence.

[Bug 1890263] Re: release upgrade does not move to the new php apache mod

2022-03-30 Thread Bryce Harrington
For testing method C, I've backported all the relevant PHP pieces to
this PPA:

https://launchpad.net/~bryce/+archive/ubuntu/modphp-upgrade-
lp1890263-unfixed-backports

(C.1) Considering only bionic, installation style 1 works as expected:

$ sudo apt-get install libapache2-mod-php
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  apache2 apache2-bin apache2-data apache2-utils libapache2-mod-php
libapache2-mod-php7.2 libaprutil1-dbd-sqlite3
  libaprutil1-ldap liblua5.2-0 libsodium23 php-common php7.2-cli php7.2-common
php7.2-json php7.2-opcache
  php7.2-readline ssl-cert
0 upgraded, 17 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

$ sudo add-apt-repository -yus
ppa:bryce/modphp-upgrade-lp1890263-unfixed-backports
...

$ sudo apt-get full-upgrade
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
  php7.2-cli php7.2-common php7.2-json php7.2-opcache php7.2-readline
Use 'sudo apt autoremove' to remove them.
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  libapache2-mod-php7.2
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  libapache2-mod-php7.4 libpcre2-8-0 php7.4-cli php7.4-common php7.4-json
php7.4-opcache php7.4-readline
The following packages will be upgraded:
  libapache2-mod-php php-common

Notably, this successfully moved from the old modphp to the new one, but
did not uninstall other php7.2 binary packages. The system ended with
both php7.2 and php7.4, but only with libapache2-mod-php7.4. I think
this is what we want.

To verify, I also purged all of the aforementioned packages, and re-
installed libapache2-mod-php with the backport PPA still enabled. As
expected and as desired, it directly installs libapache2-mod-php7.4
(7.4.3-4ubuntu2.11~bionic1).

(C.2) Next, in a clean new bionic container fully up to date, I installed the
versioned modphp:

$ sudo apt-get install libapache2-mod-php7.2
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  apache2 apache2-bin apache2-data apache2-utils libapache2-mod-php7.2
libaprutil1-dbd-sqlite3 libaprutil1-ldap
  liblua5.2-0 libsodium23 php-common php7.2-cli php7.2-common php7.2-json
php7.2-opcache php7.2-readline ssl-cert
0 upgraded, 16 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

Notice that one fewer package is installed in this situation, namely the
virtual package libapache2-mod-php. (This fact will cause problems
later.)

$ sudo add-apt-repository -yus
ppa:bryce/modphp-upgrade-lp1890263-unfixed-backports
...

$ sudo apt-get full-upgrade
The following packages will be upgraded:
  php-common
1 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

So in upgrading with the PPA enabled, php-common gets upgraded but this
does not trigger any php components to upgrade, so we're left with
php7.2 and the old modphp.

2022-03-30 Thread Erich Eickmeyer 
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. While we appreciate the difficulties you are facing, it
would appear that the image (ISO file) you downloaded could be corrupt
or you had a bad write to installation media. From the description:

> CasperMD5CheckMismatches: ./boot/grub/efi.img
> CasperMD5CheckResult: fail

Re-downloading the ISO file and re-writing it to your installation media
is a way to troubleshoot this issue. Since the issue is not a bug, this
report will be closed.

[Bug 1966334] Re: GLVND: Set current thread state to NULL in teardown

2022-03-30 Thread Aidan Foster
I do think it is worth mentioning that since it is a in issue that shows
up in the Vulkan CTS, it is likely that it will also show up in other
applications. It may also occur on other platforms, but the two I listed
are the only ones that I confirmed the issue is reproducing on.

[Bug 1966572] Re: Chromium Zero Day

2022-03-30 Thread B[]
@seth-arnold I'm not sure snap does think it has the package?

```
$ apt-file show chromium-browser
chromium-browser: /usr/bin/chromium-browser
chromium-browser: /usr/share/applications/chromium-browser.desktop
chromium-browser: /usr/share/apport/package-hooks/chromium-browser.py
chromium-browser: /usr/share/doc/chromium-browser/changelog.Debian.gz
chromium-browser: /usr/share/doc/chromium-browser/copyright
chromium-browser: /usr/share/icons/hicolor/128x128/apps/chromium-browser.png
chromium-browser: /usr/share/icons/hicolor/22x22/apps/chromium-browser.png
chromium-browser: /usr/share/icons/hicolor/24x24/apps/chromium-browser.png
chromium-browser: /usr/share/icons/hicolor/256x256/apps/chromium-browser.png
chromium-browser: /usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/apps/chromium-browser.png
chromium-browser: /usr/share/icons/hicolor/64x64/apps/chromium-browser.png
chromium-browser: /usr/share/lintian/overrides/chromium-browser
chromium-browser: /usr/share/pixmaps/chromium-browser.png
```

```
$ sudo snap refresh
All snaps up to date.
```

```
$ sudo snap list
Name   Version  RevTracking Publisher   Notes
bare   1.0  5  latest/stablecanonical✓  base
core18 20220309 2344   latest/stablecanonical✓  base
gnome-3-34-18040+git.3556cb377 latest/stable/…  canonical✓  -
gtk-common-themes  0.1-59-g7bca6ae  1519   latest/stable/…  canonical✓  -
snapd  2.54.4   15177  latest/stablecanonical✓  snapd
```

As far as I can tell, snap doesn't think it has control over Chromium.
Unless apt somehow hides its control over Chromium (which would seem
weird).

Running `sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade` I also get no
offer to upgrade Chromium.

I should also mention that I specifically run this version:
https://launchpad.net/%7Esaiarcot895/+archive/ubuntu/chromium-beta
