2022-04-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Maybe report the issue upstream at
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-qxl/-/issues
although it doesn't look very active...

If the offending change is in the kernel then it might be useful to try
some older and newer kernels (after installation):

[Bug 1967944] Re: After installing Ubuntu 22.04, no option to boot other installed OSes

2022-04-05 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Changed in: ubiquity (Ubuntu)
   Importance: High => Low

** Description changed:

  Test Case 1:

- 0. Install Windows
+ 0. Install Fedora 36 Beta
  1. Use the latest Ubuntu 22.04 daily image to install Ubuntu

  Expected:
- The boot menu list includes Windows
+ The boot menu list includes Fedora

  What happens instead:
The system boots directly into Ubuntu without showing the grub screen since
Ubuntu is the only available system.

- Test Case 2:
-
- Same as Test Case 1 except I used Fedora 36 Beta instead of Windows
-
  Other Info:
  --
- I did Test Case 2 yesterday in VirtualBox. Sorry I wiped the install because
I needed the hard drive space back already. But it's easily reproducible if you
have the time to do the 2 installs.
-
- This issue was also considered important enough to mention at
-
https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2022/03/ubuntu-22-04-beta-is-now-available-download
-
- This issue was first announced here:
-
- A few different options were suggested such as having the Ubuntu
- installer run something like os-prober once during the install only as a
- balance between making dual boot reasonably accessible to our users
- while tightening the system security compared to previous Ubuntu
- releases.
-
- But as far as I can tell, nothing was actually implemented from that
- discussion. And I guess this workflow has been undertested so far this
- release cycle.
+ This worked when I installed Windows 11 first then installed Ubuntu by
choosing Install Alongside Windows.

[Bug 1929895] Re: [EHL] Enable ISHTP

2022-04-05 Thread Sachin Mokashi
@Kent,

The ECLite driver communication over ISHTP can be tested as follows:

a) "cat /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/temp" - for reading temperature
from EC-Lite.

Note 1: "cat /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/type" should read "acpitz"
- This is EC-Lite's thermal zone

Note 2: You can stress the CPU and read temp again to see a change. For
stressing the CPU, you can use Checkbox itself.
Eg Checkbox command: cdts.checkbox-cli run
com.canonical.certification::stress/cpu_stress_ng_test

If a battery is connected -
  - /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0 will be populated.
eg.
cat /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/present
1
cat /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/status
Discharging

You can try to turn on/off FAN manually as well – Commands attached

[Bug 1956315] Re: vmx_ldtr_test in ubuntu_kvm_unit_tests failed (FAIL: Expected 0 for L1 LDTR selector (got 50))

2022-04-05 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
vmx_ldtr_test in ubuntu_kvm_unit_tests will fail with:
- FAIL: Expected 0 for L1 LDTR selector (got 50)
+ FAIL: Expected 0 for L1 LDTR selector (got 50)

It's a test for commit afc8de01 "KVM: nVMX: Set LDTR to its
architecturally defined value on nested VM-Exit"

According to Intel 64 and IA-32 Architectures Software Developer’s
Manual, L1's LDTR should be 0 after an emulated VM-exit from L2.

  [Fix]
- * afc8de01 "KVM: nVMX: Set LDTR to its architecturally defined value on
nested VM-Exit"
+ * afc8de01 "KVM: nVMX: Set LDTR to its architecturally defined value
+ on nested VM-Exit"

We already have this patch in Jammy.
- This patch can be cherry-picked into F/F-OEM-5.14/I. But backport is required
for
- Bionic, as the code snippet for nested KVM haven't been split out to
- vmx/nested.c (55d2375e KVM: nVMX: Move nested code to dedicated files).
+ This patch can be cherry-picked into F/F-OEM-5.14/I. But some
+ straightforward backport work is required for Bionic, as the code
+ snippet for nested KVM haven't been split out to vmx/nested.c
+ (55d2375e KVM: nVMX: Move nested code to dedicated files).

  [Test]
Test kernels can be found here:
  https://people.canonical.com/~phlin/kernel/lp-1956315-vmx-ldtr/

  Tested with:
-  * B (bare-metal / KVM instance)
-  * F (KVM instance)
-  * I (bare-metal / KVM instance)
+ * B (bare-metal / KVM instance)
+ * F (KVM instance)
+ * I (bare-metal / KVM instance)

With this patched kernel, this test will pass:
- PASS: Expected 0 for L1 LDTR selector (got 0)
+ PASS: Expected 0 for L1 LDTR selector (got 0)

Also tested with ubuntu_kvm_unit_tests and ubuntu_kvm_smoke_test to
make sure this is not causing any other regressions.

  [Where problem could occur]
If the patch is incorrect it might affect the nested KVM functionality
while existing from L2 to L1.

[Bug 1967901] Re: [qxl] Xorg fails to start with "Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration."

2022-04-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Also your kernel log shows the 'qxl' DRM kernel driver seems to be
working. And Xorg has clearly found the kernel qxl device. So if Xorg
says "Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration" then it
suggests there might have been some change in the kernel driver that the
Xorg driver doesn't yet support.

[Bug 1956315] Re: vmx_ldtr_test in ubuntu_kvm_unit_tests failed (FAIL: Expected 0 for L1 LDTR selector (got 50))

2022-04-05 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
vmx_ldtr_test in ubuntu_kvm_unit_tests will fail with:
FAIL: Expected 0 for L1 LDTR selector (got 50)

It's a test for commit afc8de01 "KVM: nVMX: Set LDTR to its
architecturally defined value on nested VM-Exit"

According to Intel 64 and IA-32 Architectures Software Developer’s
Manual, L1's LDTR should be 0 after an emulated VM-exit from L2.

  [Fix]
- * afc8de01 "KVM: nVMX: Set LDTR to its architecturally defined value
- on nested VM-Exit"
+ * afc8de01 "KVM: nVMX: Set LDTR to its architecturally defined value on
nested VM-Exit"

We already have this patch in Jammy.
- This patch can be cherry-picked into F/F-OEM-5.14/I. But some
- straightforward backport work is required for Bionic, as the code
- snippet for nested KVM haven't been split out to vmx/nested.c
- (55d2375e KVM: nVMX: Move nested code to dedicated files).
+ This patch can be cherry-picked into F/F-OEM-5.14/I. But backport is required
for
+ Bionic, as the code snippet for nested KVM haven't been split out to
+ vmx/nested.c (55d2375e KVM: nVMX: Move nested code to dedicated files).

  [Test]
Test kernels can be found here:
  https://people.canonical.com/~phlin/kernel/lp-1956315-vmx-ldtr/

  Tested with:
-  * B (bare-metal)
+  * B (bare-metal / KVM instance)
   * F (KVM instance)
-  * I (KVM instance / bare-metal)
+  * I (bare-metal / KVM instance)

With this patched kernel, this test will pass:
PASS: Expected 0 for L1 LDTR selector (got 0)

Also tested with ubuntu_kvm_unit_tests and ubuntu_kvm_smoke_test to
make sure this is not causing any other regressions.

  [Where problem could occur]
If the patch is incorrect it might affect the nested KVM functionality
while existing from L2 to L1.

[Bug 1967935] Re: there is no bluetooth in 22.04

2022-04-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It looks like the problem is the kernel:

[ 55.796659] usbcore: registered new interface driver btusb
[ 55.799361] usb 1-4: Direct firmware load for ar3k/AthrBT_0x1102.dfu
failed with error -2
[ 55.799368] Bluetooth: Patch file not found ar3k/AthrBT_0x1102.dfu
[ 55.799373] Bluetooth: Loading patch file failed
[ 55.799420] ath3k: probe of 1-4:1.0 failed with error -2
[ 55.822336] usbcore: registered new interface driver ath3k

But rather than associate this bug with the PCI device "AR9462" we
should probably focus on the USB device "13d3:3393 IMC Networks". Sounds
related to bug 1965953.

[Bug 1967976] [NEW] Impress Video plays once and second time no video but sound

2022-04-05 Thread Sam Colegrove
Public bug reported:

LibreOffice Impress version 7.3.2.2, when I do a presentation with
slides and mp4 videos, it plays the first video correctly once and
thereafter on any video, there is only sound and no image displayed!

I am on Kubuntu 22.04 and this problem has existed since Version
7.2.5.2. I have two Laptops with LibreOffice and one has Version
7.2.5.2 locked in as this is my main Laptop for presentations and this
version works perfectly with no problem. My other Laptop is my
sacrificial Laptop which has version 7.3.2.2.

In the attached video I used Kazam to record both monitors. The
presentation screen is the right half.

[Bug 1966786] Re: login screen shown twice with VirtualBox Guest Additions

2022-04-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
BertN45: The only error that stands out to me in your log is that the
vmwgfx kernel driver keeps logging:

kernel: [drm:vmw_msg_ioctl [vmwgfx]] *ERROR* Failed to open channel.

If that's the problem then it's a bug in the kernel (where the vmwgfx
driver lives) and/or the hypervisor.

Otherwise the log shows that the Wayland session starts successfully and
tries to register itself with GDM. And 30 seconds later, GDM starts a
Xorg session.

2022-04-05 Thread Chris Guiver
A check on logs...

it's possible not all package upgrades had taken effect, there is a
message saying a restart is required because of dbus-deamon upgrade
(can't do that on a live system) & lack of disk space on system.. so may
require verification when an ISO build completes.

The error on this system however matches the following I got earlier
today when tested on my installed/primary box

---
File not found

Firefox can’t find the file at
/usr/share/libreoffice/help/index.html?Target=swriter/.uno:HelpIndex=en-
US=UNIX=7.3.

Check the file name for capitalization or other typing errors.
Check to see if the file was moved, renamed or deleted.
---

that system is NOT live & has all upgrades applied.. It was clean
booted this morning

failed-impish. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at

[Bug 1960449] Re: Backport container stack in Jammy

2022-04-05 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
So, I'm a little confused about the
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DockerUpdates policy here, specifically when it
states “The aim is to backport the .1 release of a major version…” and
the upload here is for runc 1.1.0. Is the claim here that 1.1.0 vs 1.0.1
is not a major version release? Is the policy outdated?

The others look fine.

[Bug 1955413] Re: Update to containerd 1.5.9

2022-04-05 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Hello Marcus, or anyone else affected,

Accepted containerd into focal-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/containerd/1.5.9-0ubuntu1~20.04.1
in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
focal to verification-done-focal. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-focal. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

** Changed in: containerd (Ubuntu Focal)
Status: In Progress => Fix Committed

[Bug 1967884] Re: several snap-confine denials for capability net_admin and perfmon on 22.04

2022-04-05 Thread Jamie Strandboge
The fsetid is actually quite old (at least 3 years; there may have been
a Trello card for it). At one point it came in and I did analysis and
tweaked the order of the priv dropping in snap-confine to get rid of it.
Then some stuff was added to snap-confine and it came back. I always had
it as a to-do to work through it, but weighing the necessity of keeping
the priv-dropping solid vs getting rid of the noisy denial always kept
it on the back-burner.

Bottom line, the fsetid has to do with the delicate drop/raise/.../full
drop dance we do and isn't new. I think you should keep that separate
from these other two.

The new ones feel like it's a delegation issue with the new kernel (ie
where it depends on what is launching snap-confine/what snap-confine is
launching), but maybe it is just as simple as the 5.15 kernel has new
capabilities checks for things it didn't before.

When looking at this, remember that the kernel rate limits capability
denials differently than say, file rules and that it can be difficult to
trigger the denials reliably without taking additional steps. John can
help you with these techniques. I recall wanting to pull my hair out
when investigating the fsetid denial until I nailed down how to get the
logged denial reliably :)
