[Bug 1976170] [NEW] Bad way to disable /etc/zsh/zshrc initializing the completion system
Public bug reported: `/etc/zsh/zshrc` suggests `skip_global_compinit=1` to avoid initializing the completion system. Without that, it is impossible to override any completions with my own directory of completion functions, since they're already created by the time it gets to MY .zshrc. The problem with this "solution" is that it relies on ... you knowing about it, which is kind of a silly requirement for a "feature" that is undocumented anywhere other than that file. In my case I spent about a day banging my head against all kinds of random higher-density objects around me, and made my keyboard thoroughly suffer frequent banging on it. I'm probably not cool enough for anyone to worry about the integrity of my head (I'm not even using oh-my-whatever), but at least think about the keyboards! I appreciate the origin of this "solution": https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/zsh/+bug/16759 it is indeed a shame if people wouldn't enjoy the wonderful completion system out of the box. But for anyone who's beyond the second grade of zsh school, this is a major PITA: stuff doesn't work, and common ways of optimizing things and tweaking the generation of .zcompdump (see for example this old trick: https://gist.github.com/ctechols/ca1035271ad134841284) become utterly useless. Something should be done instead of an obscure opt-out mechanism that nobody knows about. Spit out a line when you run the shell first. Do a quick grep in your .zshrc for "autoload.*compinit" and suggest adding the line if you find it. Or ... just initialize the damn thing if the user's code did not -- for example, put the whole thing into a function, and run it from a `precmd_functions` one-shot entry if it wasn't initialized. Anything would be better than the current functionality which is from my POV worse than sticking a `sleep 0.5` in that global file. Please and thank you. ** Affects: zsh (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1976170 Title: Bad way to disable /etc/zsh/zshrc initializing the completion system To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/zsh/+bug/1976170/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1976167] Re: lubuntu 16.04 frequent crashes
Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. Ubuntu 16.04 (xenial) reached end-of-standard-support on April 29, 2021. See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases We appreciate that this bug may be old and you might not be interested in discussing it any more. But if you are then please upgrade to the latest Ubuntu version and re-test. If you then find the bug is still present in the newer Ubuntu version, please add a comment here telling us which new version it is in. FYI: Lubuntu 16.04 LTS reached EOL end of April 2019. FYI: The package you filed against is the installer itself; so if your system installed - it's not involved; but that support ended April 2019. ** Changed in: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1976167 Title: lubuntu 16.04 frequent crashes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1976167/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1970784] Re: Cannot create an email of more than approx. 930 characters
Herbert, Erich's action was to assign your bug report to the Thunderbird package as the report was raised initially against the Ubuntu project in general. Ubuntu developers generally only subscribe to bug reports that they are responsible for rather than all Ubuntu bug reports. So it is essential that bug reports are targetted towards those than can really help with reported issues. However, you did say that you are seeing this issue with four email clients so I agree that the problem is not with Thunderbird. If your mail provider has investigated the issue then they presumably are not at fault either. If this is still an issue then I would suggest a support site such as support forum of your local Ubuntu community http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or https://ubuntuforums.org in order to ascertain the where the problem might lie. Moving this bug report, if the problem persists, to the problematic package will still be required should no-one else intervene in the meantime. I see that the related question suggested contacting Mozilla. Did you do that and if so was any help forthcoming? I'm moving this report back to the general Ubuntu pocket rather than invalidating it as you have confirmed you do not see this issue when using Windows 10 so still an Ubuntu issue. ** Package changed: thunderbird (Ubuntu) => ubuntu ** Tags added: focal -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1970784 Title: Cannot create an email of more than approx. 930 characters To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1970784/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1954595] Re: bzr dh-make crash - no attribute 'initialize_on_transport'
Dear Mauricio, thanks for the tip. I had to do the following to make it work: After: bzr add debian/source/format I added: bzr add debian/compat The compat file hold only one line with: 10, as in: echo "10" >compat Without this, it fails to compile, but with this line added, all seems well. I get my .deb package with all the files in good place. In my case I don't need a .configure since there is only a Makefile and that is enough for my project. I also get the source packages signed. I didn't try to push them to launchpad though, and will try that when I have a real fix to package (which is hopefully soon!) I will mark it "fixed for me" when I'll have done that launchpad publication, but so far it seems all good! That being said, and since apparently bzr dropped support for making debian packages, wouldn't it be worth it to rewrite completely this "Packaging guide" with newer tooling (like git?) After all, the task of compiling a simple hello.c, be it with the help of a Makefile, is quite basic! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1954595 Title: bzr dh-make crash - no attribute 'initialize_on_transport' To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-packaging-guide/+bug/1954595/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1973285] Re: [SRU] libraspberrypi0 multi-arch install failing due to lintian override content difference
** Description changed: [Impact] Despite libraspberrypi0 being declared Multi-Arch: same, users cannot install libraspberrypi0:armhf on arm64 systems. This affects the ability to (attempt to) use libwidevine (the library required to play certain proprietary streaming services, e.g. Netflix, which is currently only available as an armhf binary). Note: For the sake of clarity, while this fix enables libraspberrypi0:armhf to be co-installed with the arm64 variant, I have *not* tested installation / usage of widevine itself as that's beyond the scope of this bug. It also affects users of the (still very popular) legacy camera stack, which is only supported on the armhf architecture as of jammy (all the mmal utilities and libraries were removed from arm64 upstream, and this change was incorporated in raspberrypi-userland in jammy). [Test Plan] * Flash the Ubuntu Desktop 22.04 for Raspberry Pi to an SD card (http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/releases/jammy/release/ubuntu-22.04-preinstalled- desktop-arm64+raspi.img.xz is the relevant image, but this is probably easier to accomplish via the rpi-imager tool) * Boot the SD card on a supported Pi (4, 400, CM4) and run through first-time setup * Open a terminal * sudo dpkg --add-architecture armhf * sudo apt update * sudo apt install libraspberrypi0:armhf * Observe failure due to conflict in lintian-overrides * Enable proposed updates (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed) * sudo apt update * sudo apt install -t jammy-proposed libraspberrypi0:armhf * Package installs successfully * The fixed version also sets Multi-Arch: same on libraspberrypi-dev, so it would also be useful to test the following: sudo apt install libraspberrypi-dev:{armhf,arm64} [Regression Potential] - We could backport just the Multi-Arch fixes to the lintian-overrides, - but the diff between the version currently shipped in jammy, and the - fixed version in kinetic is small consisting of only 6 (mostly trivial) - commits (no new features are included, just bug fixes). Hence, I've - decided to just backport the fixed version, unless the SRU team raises - any objections. + We could backport just the Multi-Arch fixes to the lintian-overrides (an + essentially risk-free option, since the only difference would be in the + lintian overrides themselves), but the diff between the version + currently shipped in jammy, and the fixed version in kinetic is small + consisting of only 6 (mostly trivial) commits (no new features are + included, just bug fixes).
