[Bug 2050017] Re: [FFe] [24.04 FEAT] [SEC2339] HSM protected signing support for Apache httpd for openSSL 3.0 with PKCS #11 provider

2024-02-28 Thread Frank Heimes
** Description changed:

  Feature Freeze Exception (FFe):
  ---

- Since this may take a little longer now and noble's FF is coming up soon,
- I'm pro-actively transferring this request into a feature freeze exception
(FFe).
+ Since the work on this request may take a little longer and noble's FF is
+ today, this request got transferred into a feature freeze exception (FFe).

- The main reason for this request is a new functionality and the use case that
one wants to protect the private key of a httpd server by using a PKCS#11 based
(HSM based) private key for the server instead of using a clear key.
- Which would subsequently open business opportunity esp. on the s390x platform.
+ The driver for this is the need to update mod_ssl in Apache2 to support
+ openssl 3.x providers, since engines are deprecated in openssl 3.x.
+
+ This new functionality (openssl provider support) is required for the
+ use case that one wants to protect the private key of a httpd server
+ by using a PKCS#11 based (HSM based) private key for the server
+ instead of using a clear key.
+
+ This would subsequently open business opportunity esp. on the s390x
+ platform.

The diff/delta in the 2.5.x/trunk CHANGES file
(https://github.com/apache/httpd/blob/trunk/CHANGES) is:
  "

further details:

Once backports for 2.4.x are available:
  - a test build in PPA will be done (and a build log can be provided)
  - install and upgrade tests will be done (and an install log can be provided)

The new package should not break any other packages that depend on it,
since there are no changes in the dependencies (or package meta data in
general) expected.

A description of a sample setup, incl. all affected components, can be taken
from here:
  https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/linux-on-z?topic=linuxone-libp11-engine

[Bug 2055153] Re: [Lenovo Legion Pro 7 16IRX8H] Boots slowly or not at all when NVIDIA driver is installed

2024-02-28 Thread Daniel van Vugt
For the slow boots, try experimenting with kernel parameters like
acpi_backlight=vendor and for more detailed info see
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/Debugging/Backlight

For the failed boots I would also recommend trying the kernel parameter:
nvidia-drm.modeset=0

For both issues try the new experimental Nvidia driver version 550:

[Bug 2054592] Re: Merge 2:4.19.5+dfsg-1 from debian

2024-02-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package samba - 2:4.19.5+dfsg-1ubuntu1

---
samba (2:4.19.5+dfsg-1ubuntu1) noble; urgency=medium

  * Merge with Debian unstable (LP: #2054592). Remaining changes:
- debian/control: Ubuntu i386 binary compatibility:
+ enable the liburing vfs module, except on i386 where liburing is
not available
- d/t/control, d/t/util,d/t/samba-ad-dc-provisioning-internal-dns:
samba AD DC provisioning and domain join tests with internal DNS
  (LP #1977746, LP #2011745)
- d/control: adjust breaks/replaces for file move that Debian did in
4.16.6+dfsg-5, and Ubuntu only did in 4.17.7+dfsg-1ubuntu1, to avoid
file conflict in a dist-upgrade from earlier Ubuntu releases, like
  Kinetic (LP #2024663)
- d/control: python3-samba has a runtime dep on python3-markdown
- glusterfs is no longer in main, create new binary package in
universe to ship the samba glusterfs vfs modules and manpages
  (LP #2045063):
  + d/control: new samba-vfs-modules-glusterfs package
+ d/rules: glusterfs vfs modules and manpages are now in the
samba-vfs-modules-extra package
+ d/samba-vfs-modules-extra.install: add glusterfs vfs modules and
manpage
- d/t/util: handle breakage introduced by lxd-installer. If on
Ubuntu, assume lxd comes from a snap and install it if needed
- d/t/util: ignore cloud-init's warning exit status, which is
happening because of LP #2048129 (also see LP #2048522)

[Bug 2055310] Re: dmesg spammed by virtui-fs and 9pnet-virtio messages

2024-02-28 Thread Andrea Righi
I don't see these messages with the latest Noble using the kernel from
the proposed pocket (6.8.0-11-generic). Can you also give it a try (if
you can)?

Hopefully we'll be able to promote a 6.8 in release soon, we are
currently blocked by a glibc regression (that doesn't seem to be a
kernel regression). If we can unblock/hint this one (hopefully this
week, or worst case next week) we'll have a new 6.8 in release.

[Bug 1983076] Re: Fixes for >1.01TB guests on AMD systems (hypertransport reserved space)

Hi Robie,

Thanks for reply. I have checked internally and we can spare some
bandwidth to test the fix on AMD system (Dell R7625 server with AMD EPYC
9004 (Genoa (4th Gen EPYC) ). We need this soon, since we have some
customer commitment. Can you please prioritize the fix Ubuntu 20.04

We have Ubuntu Canonical pro support. Let me know whether we need to
request from Ubuntu Canonical pro dashboard if that helps.

[Bug 2055280] Re: openjdk-17-jre-headless 17.0.10+7-1~22.04.1: segfault in jspawnhelper

2024-02-28 Thread Vladimir Petko
I agree - they do not check argc there, causing the startup segfault.

I have done the test in lxc container:

$lxc launch ubuntu-daily:noble

There i have installed jenkins weekly release:
---
sudo wget -O /usr/share/keyrings/jenkins-keyring.asc \
  https://pkg.jenkins.io/debian/jenkins.io-2023.key
echo deb [signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/jenkins-keyring.asc] \
  https://pkg.jenkins.io/debian binary/ | sudo tee \
  /etc/apt/sources.list.d/jenkins.list > /dev/null
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install jenkins
--

and configured a pipeline to build a maven project[1]

I have configured an agent to connect and ran it as following:

JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/java-17-openjdk-amd64/ java -jar agent.jar -url
http://:8080/ -secret @secret-file -name "self-server" -workDir
"/home/test/work"

The build successfully clones the project, starts maven and builds it.

I wonder if there is something specific in your setup (e.g. a docker
container used as an agent) that may contribute to the issue?

[Bug 2055351] Re: firefox screen corruption on Athlon 200GE after fresh installation of 22.04.4

2024-02-28 Thread Ian Mackenzie
screenshot of firefox when launched under X11

** Attachment added: "Firefox corruption.png"

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/2055351/+attachment/5750559/+files/Firefox%20corruption.png

** Description changed:

I downloaded the 22.04.4 iso and did a fresh install on an AMD Athlon 200GE
using built-in graphics.
  (Radeon™ Vega 3 Graphics)

Firefox and Chromium browsers had their windows corrupted to the point
  where they were unreadable.

I think this is an xorg bug, because when I installed Wayland and logged
in with a Wayland session, the browsers displayed correctly.

Same behaviour with an Athlon 220GE.

KDE or Ubuntu's Gnome desktop made no difference - it seemed to be xorg vs
Wayland that was the critical difference.

2024-02-28 Thread Ian Mackenzie
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected ubuntu wayland-session

** Description changed:

I downloaded the 22.04.4 iso and did a fresh install on an AMD Athlon 200GE
using built-in graphics.

- KDE or Ubuntu's Gnome desktop made no difference - it seemed to be xorg
- vs Wayland that was the critical difference.

[Bug 2055283] Re: Intel Bluetooth AX201 needs firmware intel/ibt-0180-4150.sfi

2024-02-28 Thread Hui Wang
** Description changed:

- This is for tracking purpose
+ BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2055283
+
+ [Impact]
+
+ We have an Lenovo laptop, after installing the oem-ubuntu-22.04 image
+ and booting up, the bluetooth couldn't work at all. Checking the dmesg,
+ the bluetooth driver needs to load the firmware intel/ibt-0180-4150.sfi,
+ but there is no this firmware in the linux-firmware of Jammy, and I
+ also checked the Mantic and Noble, Mandic doesn't have this firmware too,
+ Noble already has the firmware since the upstream linux-firmware integrated
+ the intel/ibt-0180-4150.sfi last year.
+
+
+ [Fix]
+
+ Backport 4 commits from upstream linux-firmware, these 4 commits are all
+ on intel/ibt-0180-4150.sfi|ddc
+
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ Put the firmware into the /lib/firmware/intel/, reboot the machine,
+ check dmesg, the bluetooth driver loads the firmware successfully,
+
+ run hciconfig, the hci0 shows up.
+
+ run checkbox testcase, it could pass.
+ [Checkbox job `com.canonical.certification::bluetooth/detect-output` output]
+
+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+
+ Probably could make the Intel AX201 BT adapter couldn't work, but the
possibility
+ is very low, we tested the firmware on different lenovo machines with the BT
adapter
+ AX201, all worked well.

[Bug 2055351] Re: firefox screen corruption on Athlon 200GE after fresh installation of 22.04.4

2024-02-28 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on
Libera.chat.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/2055351/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1949291] Re: LibreOffice has started displaying a donation nag

2024-02-28 Thread jordancoxi
It seems like you're frustrated with the donation banners in LibreOffice
and are looking for a way to disable them permanently, particularly in
the context of Ubuntu 20.04. While I cannot directly implement changes
in software, I can provide some guidance.

Your approach of creating a configuration file in the
$BASEDIR/share/registry directory seems to be one way to address the
issue. However, it's worth noting that modifying system files could have
unintended consequences, and it might not be the most user-friendly
solution.

Another potential solution is to use a third-party tool or script to
automate the process of applying your configuration changes. This way,
you can avoid manual intervention.

If you find the banners intrusive and believe that they should be
addressed at the distro level, you might want to consider reporting this
as a bug or feature request to the Ubuntu bug tracking system. Provide
detailed information about the issue and your proposed solution. This
way, developers can evaluate the request and decide on the best course
of action.

Remember to check for updates regularly like
https://sassastatusportal.co.za/, as software projects often release new
versions that may include changes or improvements based on user
feedback. You can also explore community forums or mailing lists related
to Ubuntu or LibreOffice to see if others have found alternative
solutions.

Lastly, keep in mind that software distribution policies, including
whether to include donation banners, may be influenced by the
developers' decisions and the open-source nature of the software. It's a
good practice to engage with the community and developers in a
constructive manner to express your concerns and suggestions.

[Bug 2055239] Re: Warning: The unit file, source configuration file or drop-ins of {apt-news, esm-cache}.service changed on disk. Run 'systemctl daemon-reload' to reload units.

2024-02-28 Thread Nobuto Murata
It was puzzling indeed, but now I have a reproduction step.

$ sudo apt update
-> no warning

$ sudo apt upgrade
-> to install something to invoke the rsyslog trigger.

Processing triggers for rsyslog (8.2312.0-3ubuntu3) ...
Warning: The unit file, source configuration file or drop-ins of
rsyslog.service changed on disk. Run 'systemctl daemon-reload' to reload units.

$ sudo apt update
-> will see the warning.

The warning happens with every systemctl commands so it's not really
ubuntu-pro-tools specific issue. However, systemctl warnings are not
expected with `apt` commands usually so that's why this could be
considered as a surprise. For fixing this properly, the place may not be
in pro-tools itself but somewhere else.

[Bug 2055351] [NEW] firefox screen corruption on Athlon 200GE after fresh installation of 22.04.4

2024-02-28 Thread Ian Mackenzie
Public bug reported:

I downloaded the 22.04.4 iso and did a fresh install on an AMD Athlon 200GE
using built-in graphics.

KDE or Ubuntu's Gnome desktop made no difference - it seemed to be xorg
vs Wayland that was the critical difference.

** Affects: ubuntu
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1893302] Re: SDDM freezes on system boot

2024-02-28 Thread Hans P . Möller
currently testing this, I will update as soon as I have another issue or
when enough time have passed without

create a custom file: snap-apps.sh
In directory ~/.config/plasma-workspace/env
In the file write down:

export XDG_DATA_DIRS="$XDG_DATA_DIRS:/var/lib/snapd/desktop/"

Save the file and make it executable with:
sudo chmod +x snap-apps.sh

[Bug 2055126] Re: Unable to bring up a guest using 24.04(Noble Numbat) ISO

2024-02-28 Thread Sergio Durigan Junior
Thanks for providing further details on how to reproduce the issue.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to trigger the problem here. I'm
using an LPAR, so it's a nested VM scenario (which is what gather you're
also using, but please let me know otherwise), and I can't get the
installation to finish because subiquity (our installer) crashes. This
is certainly a problem, but it seem unrelated to QEMU/virt-install and
not the same issue that you're experiencing.

Are you using a baremetal machine perhaps?

Also, allow me to reiterate what Frank said above. Our Ubuntu Cloud
images are generated for KVM and recommended in this case.

Having said that, could you please provide more details on the problem
you're having. Are you able to access any logs at all? Do you see
error/warning messages?

I'm going to mark this bug as Incomplete for now in order to reflect the
fact that we're waiting on more information. Thanks!

** Changed in: virtinst (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Incomplete
