[Bug 1945364]

2024-03-08 Thread Ppalka-y
We don't implement OPTIMIZATION_NODE and TARGET_OPTION_NODE streaming:

case OPTIMIZATION_NODE:
case TARGET_OPTION_NODE:
  // FIXME: Our representation for these two nodes is a cache of
  // the resulting set of options. Not a record of the options
  // that got changed by a particular attribute or pragma. Should
  // we record that, or should we record the diff from the command
  // line options? The latter seems the right behaviour, but is
  // (a) harder, and I guess could introduce strangeness if the
  // importer has set some incompatible set of optimization flags?
  gcc_unreachable ();

Please read the output, your kernels are not signed with keys known to
your firmware and hence the update has been aborted to you keep your
system hopefully bootable.

[Bug 2056617] [NEW] 0x0A in id3 tag results in garbled playlist

2024-03-08 Thread themusicgod1
Public bug reported:

in winamp classic interface:

what should happen: song, title, etc should be on ONE line in the
playlist. any 0A should be replaced by either nothing or a single
character. Or perhaps the line itself should be longer, and the next
track shouldn't also start on the next line.

what does happen: 0A / '\n' / new line in an id3 tag shoves data on the
next line, which looks garbled if there's another item in the playlist

for example

for id tag of gary jules - (0A)mad(0A) world

889. gary jules -
890. (garbled)
891. (garbled)

[Bug 2056616] [NEW] left-over ceph debugging printks

2024-03-08 Thread Seth Arnold
Public bug reported:

Hello, a pal recently mentioned some debugging printk statements in our
kernels, eg:

evict_inodes inode d69da69b, i_count = 1, was skipped!

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2037214 has some
additional details.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2041613 looks like an
effort to remove it?

This apparently hasn't been finished yet, and it's in the middle of a
big run of actual real work, so it might not be super-easy to just yank
this out, it might also justify a larger look at the surrounding
context.

In noble master-next:

kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux/+git/noble/commit/fs/inode.c?h=master-
next=603b74b4176fdf6ab2fb83306136947296e7aeb4

[Bug 2050022] Re: Cannot run apt after installation if attached to Ubuntu Pro

2024-03-08 Thread Grant Orndorff
As noted in the Test Plan, an automated test was added to the ubuntu-
advantage-tools package to cover this bug. We ran the full automated
test suite for the SRU of 31.2, including this one, and they all passed.
Logs are attached in LP: #2048921. So I'm marking verification done for
this bug.

The autopkgtest failure on mantic ppc64el was a flaky infrastructure
problem and passed when I retried it.

Hello Owen,

Sorry for the delay. The 24.04 repositories are in the middle of a large
transition related to time_t64 and many packages/updates, including this
one, are blocked on other builds because of that. I hope the backlog
will be worked through soon, and I will try to get this update published
soon.

[Bug 2048921] Re: [SRU] ubuntu-advantage-tools (30 -> 31) Xenial, Bionic, Focal, Jammy, Mantic

2024-03-08 Thread Grant Orndorff
We have run the full ubuntu-advantage-tools integration (behave) test
suite against the version in -proposed. The results are attached. All
tests passed. You can verify the correct version was used by checking
the output of the first test in each file, which prints the version
number.

I also ran all the Test Plan tests for the package rename transition -
everything worked as expected and logs are attached. I did the Desktop
GUI upgrade test manually and don't have a log, but it worked as
expected as well.

For the .list -> deb822 transition during jammy -> noble upgrade test,
there were unrelated failures in the upgrade to noble, but the thing we
care about - the transition to deb822 sources - is working as expected.
Specifically, esm .list files on pro jammy were successfully transformed
to deb822 noble esm sources files on pro noble after a do-release-
upgrade. renanrodrigo performed this test and I think he has a log of
the test. I'll wait for a final confirmation from him before marking
verification done.

The autopkgtest failure on mantic ppc64el was a flaky infrastructure
problem and passed when I retried it.

2024-03-08 Thread Grant Orndorff
I followed the test plan and demonstrated the bug before an upgrade,
then demonstrated that the bug no longer occurs after upgrading to the
version of ubuntu-advantage-tools in -proposed. I'm attaching logs for
all releases and marking verification done.

The autopkgtest failure on mantic ppc64el was a flaky infrastructure
problem and passed when I retried it.

[Bug 2056609] [NEW] right-click and "extract here" does not give the same result as clicking into the tar.gz and hitting "extract"

2024-03-08 Thread carlos
Public bug reported:

right-click and "extract here" does not give the same result as clicking
into the tar.gz and hitting "extract".

I have a tar.gz file where if I run "tar -xzvf " I get a file
that is 30 GB in size.

Similarly, if I double left-click on the file, and click "extract" on
the top left, then it extracts to about 30 GB.

However, if I extract the same file by right clicking on it and hitting
"extract here", I get an output that is about 5GB in size.

If needed I can provide the file. Just contact me via email:
carlos.gonza...@pivotal.aero

Doubt it's relevant, but the file is an image built using yocto.

[Bug 2021988] Re: package ubuntu-advantage-tools 27.14.4 failed to install/upgrade: le sous-processus paquet ubuntu-advantage-tools script pre-removal installé a renvoyé un état de sortie d'erreur 1

2024-03-08 Thread Grant Orndorff
I've tested the fixed version of ubuntu-advantage-tools in -proposed
using the test plan described. I show the bug before the upgrade and
show that it doesn't occur after the upgrade in the logs attached.

The autopkgtest failure on mantic ppc64el looks like a flaky
infrastructure problem and should be retried. No other failures occurred
on any other release/arch, so I'd be surprised if it is a real problem.

Marking verification done.

[Bug 2052985] Re: [FFe] Upgrade Rust to 1.76.0

2024-03-08 Thread Zixing Liu
> Is the intention to make rust 1.76.0 the default rustc in noble (==

It will be made default, and then LP#2054748 will transition this package to
rustc-1.76 instead of rustc.

> what rebuild testing has been done on the reverse-dependencies

Performing rebuild testing is currently very difficult because many
micro-packages synchronized from Debian haven't yet formed a stable
dependency tree. Many test failures suggest incomplete sync or
incomplete work from Debian.

[Bug 2019997] Re: pro livepatch status incorrect when run as normal user

2024-03-08 Thread Grant Orndorff
I've run the test plan for the ubuntu-advantage-tools fix to this bug on
xenial, bionic, focal and jammy. livepatch is not supported on mantic,
so this bug doesn't actually affect mantic. The tests passed and logs
are attached.

The autopkgtest failure on mantic ppc64el looks like a flaky
infrastructure problem and should be retried. No other failures occurred
on any other release/arch, so I'd be suprised if it is a real problem.

[Bug 2056605] Re: HWE 6.5.0-25-generic kernel does not boot due to VirtualBox

2024-03-08 Thread Aaron Rainbolt
I am unable to reproduce this with Ubuntu Desktop 22.04.4 (all updates
installed), VirtualBox 6.1.50 (from Ubuntu repos), VBox Extension Pack
installed, with kernel 6.5.0-25-generic running. Using a Dell Optiplex
9020 with 32 GB RAM, an Intel Core i5-4570, and an NVIDIA 1050 Ti GPU
with Nouveau graphics. System boots into the latest HWE kernel without
issues, and I can boot a Tiny Core Linux VM just fine. I even enabled
the xHCI controller from the extension pack to see if that would change
things and it did not - both the system and the VM boot after making
that change.

(I'm using a TeamGroup SATA SSD too, though I doubt that matters - also
as a passing note I've not had the best experience with TeamGroup's
flash storage.)

[Bug 2019997] Re: pro livepatch status incorrect when run as normal user

2024-03-08 Thread Grant Orndorff
** Description changed:

  [ Impact ]

  pro status shows livepatch as "disabled" when "canonical-livepatch"
  returns an error. This can be misleading. It would be more helpful to
  propagate the error message up to the user through pro status; that is
  what the fix does.

  [ Test Plan ]

  In a multipass VM:
  ```
  # attach to pro
  sudo pro attach
  # hack canonical-livepatch to return an error
- cat > error.sh <&2
- false
+ cat > error.sh <&2
+ false
  EOF
+ chmod +x error.sh
  sudo rm /snap/bin/canonical-livepatch
  sudo ln -s /home/ubuntu/error.sh /snap/bin/canonical-livepatch
  # check livepatch's status according to pro
  pro status
  ```

  Without the fix, livepatch will show as "disabled".
  With the fix, livepatch will show as "warning", and there will be a notice
that says "Error running canonical-livepatch status: this is a simulated error"

  [ Where problems could occur ]

  Since this changes how the status of livepatch is displayed, then a
  mistake could lead to livepatch's status being incorrect

  [Original Description]

  livepatch shows as disabled when `pro status` is run as a normal user,
  but enabled when run with sudo.

  $ pro status
  SERVICE  ENTITLED  STATUSDESCRIPTION
  esm-apps yes enabled Expanded Security Maintenance for

replaced by :
  $ canonical-livepatch status

[Bug 2056605] [NEW] HWE 6.5.0-25-generic kernel does not boot due to VirtualBox

2024-03-08 Thread Jeffrey Walton
Public bug reported:

Hi Everyone,

I'm running Ubuntu 22.04, x86_64, fully patched. I have VirtualBox
installed. Both linux-image-generic and linux-image-generic-hwe kernels
are installed, just in case. And I almost always boot to the HWE kernel.

I performed an `aptitude upgrade` and and `aptitude safe-upgrade` this morning.
The upgrade installed the 6.5.0-25-generic kernel. During the reboot, the
machine hung with the message "Failed to start
LSB: VirtualBox Linux kernel module."

I reset the machine, selected the [old] 6.5.0-21-generic kernel, and the
machine booted Ok.

-

After the failed boot and reboot to the lower kernel, I performed:

$ sudo apt-get remove --purge '*6.5.0-25-generic*'
$ sudo apt-mark hold '*6.5.0-25-generic*'

-

$ ls /lib/modules

[Bug 2056603] [NEW] FFe: Open WiFi network support

2024-03-08 Thread Aaron Rainbolt
Public bug reported:

As it stands, the network connectivity features of lubuntu-installer-
prompt and kubuntu-installer-prompt are only capable of connecting to
WiFi networks that have a password. This is non-ideal, as some users may
want to connect to the Internet during installation via public WiFi. The
code to enable this should be relatively simple (detect if the WiFi
network requires authentication when trying to connect, and skip
password-related code if not), and as kubuntu-installer-prompt shares a
massive amount of code with lubuntu-installer-prompt it will be easy to
port once finished.

This FFe applies to both lubuntu-installer-prompt and kubuntu-installer-
prompt.

[Bug 1987663] Re: cinder-volume: "Failed to re-export volume, setting to ERROR" with "tgtadm: failed to send request hdr to tgt daemon, Transport endpoint is not connected" on service startup

2024-03-08 Thread Heather Lemon
The only one I can confirm fixes the issue is Mantic.
I tried testing Noble series, but ran into issues executing Openstack commands
with the steps above (500).

Thanks,
Heather Lemon

I won't promise we will get to fixing PHPStorm or Jetbrains before
release, but without a bug they certainly won't get fixed, so yes it is
worth filing a bug for them.

[Bug 2056187] Re: fails to configure BOOTIF when using iscsi

2024-03-08 Thread Alexsander de Souza
did you execute this procedure in your host? or in a VM deployed by
MAAS? if you did the former, I think your initrd doesn't have the
support to netboot from squashfs images.

anyway, if you can confirm that we got past the original issue, I think
it's enough to merge this.

[Bug 2056548] Re: fwupd metadata bug due to outdated version in Ubuntu 22.04 repositories

2024-03-08 Thread Mario Limonciello
JFYI, Noble already has 1.9.14, this request is for Jammy. There are a
bunch of other Jammy specific bugs that would be fixed by such a SRU.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/jammy/+source/fwupd

The SRU process (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdate) has an
exception for fwupd (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/firmware-updates) that
/should/ allow migrating from 1.7.x to 1.9.x.

[Bug 2056187] Re: fails to configure BOOTIF when using iscsi

2024-03-08 Thread Victor Sartori
Hello all,

I'm currently testing a patch to generate an initrd image for MAAS with
partial success.

The fix for the network is working well. However, when attempting to
start a server via PXE using MAAS, strange errors are raised:

Warning: Type of the root file system is unknown, so skipping the check.
mount: bad address 'squash'

This leads to an initramfs prompt.

Here are the steps I follow to generate an initramfs:

1. Apply the patch to the script based on /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts.
2. Run the mkinitramfs command.
3. Copy the new initrd file to MAAS.
4. Start the server to boot by network.

I couldn't find clear documentation regarding generation and
troubleshooting. Additionally, I'm unsure if this is the right place to
ask questions about this issue.

  There is one direct dependency of ogre-next, ignition-rendering. Given

[Bug 2029924] Re: [SRU] "Can't locate lcovutil.pm" after updating to 2.0-1

2024-03-08 Thread Bas Prins
Hi Sudip,

Still trying to get lcov working on and off :).

You asked for the output of apt cache:

bp@bas-hp:~ % apt-cache policy lcov
lcov:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 2.0-1
  Version table:
 2.0-1ubuntu0.1 400
100 http://nl.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu mantic-proposed/universe amd64
Packages
100 http://nl.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu mantic-proposed/universe i386
Packages
 2.0-1 500
500 http://nl.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu mantic/universe amd64 Packages
500 http://nl.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu mantic/universe i386 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

So this means I should be able to install 2.0-1 "400" from proposed, and
2.0-1 "500" from universe? Or what exactly is this telling me?

I just tried to :
sudo apt-get install lcov -t mantic-proposed

Which results in:

bp@bas-hp:~ % sudo apt-get install lcov -t mantic-proposed
Reading package lists... Done

And then when running lcov --version

bp@bas-hp:~ % lcov --version

(@INC contains: /usr/local/lib/lcov /etc/perl

still gives me the same error.

What am I still doing wrong?

Thanks, I'm looking forward to it.

a bit unrelated: PHPStorm (and I'd guess all Jetbrains IDEs) is also
broken, but that is installed by unpacking a tarball to a location and
let it auto-update itself.

Is there any point in filing a bug for that too?

[Bug 2056593] [NEW] [FFE] FIPS compatibility patches

2024-03-08 Thread Tobias Heider
Public bug reported:

We have an open MR with a handful of FIPS compatibilty changes we wore hoping
to get into 24.04. The main purpose of the changes is to detect whether the
kernel is running in FIPS mode and adjust the behavior of the library
accordingly by loading the correct provider backend and using defaults that
are FIPS compliant (no md5, DES etc) instead trying to use non-compliant code
paths and crashing.

The proposed patches were taken from the OpenSSL version shipped in the FIPS
archive at esm.ubuntu.com for 22.04. Having them in the regular archive will
reduce the maintenance work significantly. None of the changes should have any
impact on running OpenSSL in regular (non-fips) mode.

Below is a detailed list of the changes:

- d/p/fips/crypto-Add-kernel-FIPS-mode-detection.patch:
  This adds a new internal API to determine whether the kernel has been booted
  in FIPS mode. This can be overridden with the OPENSSL_FORCE_FIPS_MODE
  environment variable. OPENSSL_FIPS_MODE_SWITCH_PATH can be used to specify an
  alternative path for the fips_enabled file and is used in tests.
  The FIPS_MODULE switch can be used to enable build of the the FIPS provider
  module specific parts which are not needed in the OpenSSL library itself.

- d/p/fips/crypto-Automatically-use-the-FIPS-provider-when-the-kerne.patch:
  This automatically configures all library contexts to use the FIPS provider
when
  the kernel is booted in FIPS mode by:
  - Setting "fips=yes" as the default property for algorithm fetches
  - Loading and activating the FIPS provider as the fallback provider.

  If applications load providers via a configuration either because the default
  configuration is modified or they override the default configuration, this
  disables loading of the fallback providers. In this case, the configuration
  must load the FIPS provider when FIPS mode is enabled, else algorithm fetches
  will fail

  Applications can choose to use non-FIPS approved algorithms by specifying the
  "-fips" or "fips=no" property for algorithm fetches and loading the default
  provider.

- d/p/fips/apps-speed-Omit-unavailable-algorithms-in-FIPS-mode.patch:
  Omit unavailable algorithms in FIPS mode

- d/p/fips/apps-pass-propquery-arg-to-the-libctx-DRBG-fetches.patch
  The -propquery argument might be used to define a preference for which
provider
  an algorithm is fetched from. Set the query properties for the library context
  DRBG fetches as well so that they are fetched with the same properties.

- d/p/fips/test-Ensure-encoding-runs-with-the-correct-context-during.patch:
  This test uses 2 library contexts - one context for creating initial test
keys,
  and then another context (or the default context) for running tests. There is
an
  issue that during the encoding tests, the OSSL_ENCODER_CTX is created from the
  created EVP_PKEYs, which are associated with the library context used to
create
  the keys. This means that encoding tests run with the wrong library context,
  which always uses the default provider.

The link for the MR is at
https://code.launchpad.net/~tobhe/ubuntu/+source/openssl/+git/openssl/+merge/460953

Since OpenSSL just received another big update to 3.0.13 we had to rebase our
changes
and will have to rerun our install/upgrade tests.

A test build is also available at
https://launchpad.net/~tobhe/+archive/ubuntu/openssl-test/

[Bug 2056591] [NEW] [UIFe] Noble Flavor Wallpapers

2024-03-08 Thread Philipp Kewisch
Public bug reported:

I am requesting a blanket UI Freeze exception for all flavor wallpaper
packages in advance of the upcoming UI Freeze for a period of 5 days
after it starts. The Noble wallpapers for vanilla Ubuntu will be
available on March 18th, which only gives flavors 2 days to create their
customized wallpapers.

This is a very tight deadline, and we'd like to avoid putting the burden
on flavors to request individual UIFe's or forcing them to rush update
their wallpaper to make the deadline.

I'd appreciate your support on granting this exception.

[Bug 2056585] [NEW] Asus Vivobook Go E1404FA - snd_intel_hda not detecting built-in microphone - ALC897 / ALC256

2024-03-08 Thread Rudi Daemen
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
Built-in microphone of the laptop is not detected and thus does not work.

[Fix]
None identified so far.

[Test Case]
Have Ubuntu 22.04 LTS installed on an Asus Vivobook Go E1404FA, using the 6.5
HWE kernel.
Open the Sound settings and set the device "Family 17h [...]" to stereo duplex:
The builtin speakers work but the internal microphone does not show up.

Checking dmesg for snd-hda-intel shows nothing under inputs for the
device.

The follow module options for snd-hda-intel have no effect:
model=auto
model=laptop-amic

[Where problems could occur]
Likely in hardware detection for the snd-hda-intel module

[Bug 2055939] Re: FFE: enable riscv64 Milk-V Mars board

2024-03-08 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
I think this is fine. My only concern is that the package now fails to
build from source on armhf, but that's unrelated to the uploaded change.
However, I'd ask the uploaders to keep a lookout on the package and
making sure that the armhf build is rebuilt once the time_t craziness is
over.

For now, approving the FFe.

** Changed in: u-boot (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Triaged
