[Bug 2032164] Re: A general-proteciton exception during guest migration to unsupported PKRU machine

2024-03-15 Thread Chengen Du
We have backported the following two patches in Jammy and waiting for review:
18164f66e6c5 x86/fpu: Allow caller to constrain xfeatures when copying
to uabi buffer
8647c52e9504 KVM: x86: Constrain guest-supported xfeatures only at
KVM_GET_XSAVE{2}
The fix will also apply to Focal-HWE kernel.

[Bug 2032164] Re: A general-proteciton exception during guest migration to unsupported PKRU machine

2024-03-15 Thread Chengen Du
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
When a host that supports PKRU initiates a guest that lacks PKRU support, the
flag is enabled on the guest's fpstate.
This information is then passed to userspace through the vcpu ioctl
KVM_GET_XSAVE.
However, a problem arises when the user opts to migrate the mentioned guest
to another machine that does not support PKRU.
In this scenario, the new host attempts to restore the guest's fpu registers.
Nevertheless, due to the absence of PKRU support on the new host, a
general-protection exception takes place, leading to a guest crash.

  [Fix]
The problem is resolved by the following upstream commit:
- ad856280ddea x86/kvm/fpu: Limit guest user_xfeatures to supported bits of XCR0
-
- Additionally, a subsequent fix tackles the migration problem stemming from
the earlier commit:
- a1020a25e697 KVM: x86: Always enable legacy FP/SSE in allowed user XFEATURES
+ 18164f66e6c5 x86/fpu: Allow caller to constrain xfeatures when copying to
uabi buffer
+ 8647c52e9504 KVM: x86: Constrain guest-supported xfeatures only at
KVM_GET_XSAVE{2}

  [Test Plan]
- 1. Set up two machines: one with PKRU support and the other without.
- 2. Initiate a guest that lacks PKRU support on the machine with PKRU support.
- 3. Utilize libvirt to migrate the aforementioned guest to a different machine
that lacks PKRU support.
- 4. The error emerges on the destination machine:
- KVM: entry failed, hardware error 0x8021
+ Several scenarios need to be conducted to confirm the migration outcome.
+ Patched kernel with PKRU -> kernel with PKRU
+ Patched kernel with PKRU -> kernel without PKRU
+ Patched kernel without PKRU -> kernel with PKRU
+ Patched kernel without PKRU -> kernel without PKRU
+ Kernel with PKRU -> patched kernel with PKRU
+ Kernel with PKRU -> patched kernel without PKRU
+ Kernel without PKRU -> patched kernel with PKRU
+ Kernel without PKRU -> patched kernel without PKRU
+ Patched kernel with PKRU -> patched kernel without PKRU

- If you're running a guest on an Intel machine without unrestricted mode
- support, the failure can be most likely due to the guest entering an invalid
- state for Intel VT. For example, the guest maybe running in big real mode
- which is not supported on less recent Intel processors.

pid 4134 (/usr/sbin/libvirtd)
- 2023-07-09 03:03:15.312+: shutting down, reason=destroyed
+ Each scenarios shall succeed except "Kernel with PKRU -> patched kernel
without PKRU" one.
+ Addressing this case poses challenges because the most plausible solution is
to clamp the FPU features at the destination during migration.
+ However, upstream does not support this approach due to concerns about
silently dropping features requested by userspace.
+ This could potentially lead to other issues and violate KVM's ABI.

  [Where problems could occur]
The introduced commits will impact the guest migration process,
potentially leading to failures and preventing the guest from operating
successfully on the migration destination.

[Bug 2058082] [NEW] wget2 --mirror leaves the specified host

2024-03-15 Thread Seth Arnold
Public bug reported:

Hello, I wanted a mirror of the irc logs hosted on
https://irclogs.ubuntu.com/ and started the project with:

wget --mirror https://irclogs.ubuntu.com/

This worked okay but was very slow, as there's probably hundreds of
thousands of links to traverse.

I switched to wget2 to get the multiple simultaneous connections, and
ran with:

wget2 --mirror https://irclogs.ubuntu.com

I assumed that wget2 would try to accomplish the same thing: mirror that
site *and only that site*.

What actually happened was that it followed a link on that site to
ubuntu.com and downloaded two and a half million files like this:

[Bug 2057965] Re: google-startup-scripts runs before cloud-init finished network setup

2024-03-15 Thread Catherine Redfield
** Description changed:

+ [ Impact ]
+
+ In certain situations (consistently with ubuntu-pro=31.2 and cloud-
+ init=23.4.4), cloud-config.service has not completed before google-
+ startup-scripts.service runs. This can cause startup scripts that rely
+ on apt to fail, as cloud-init is responsible for reconfiguring
+ sources.list to point at the GCE archives.
+
+ Since pro and cloud-init are backported to all older releases, this bug
+ will affect them too.
+
+ The change that results in this race condition is the removal an
+ ordering condition between pro and cloud-init, so adding `After=cloud-
+ final.service` to google-startup-scripts.service should ensure that the
+ startup scripts are correctly run regardless of the ordering (or lack
+ thereof) between other services.
+
+ [ Test Plan ]
+
+ To reproduce:
+
+ Using startup_script.sh:
+ #!/bin/bash
+ cp /etc/apt/sources.list /tmp/startup-sources.list
+
+ $ gcloud compute instances create startup-test --image
daily-ubuntu-2204-jammy-v20240314 --image-project ubuntu-os-cloud-devel
--metadata-from-file=startup-script=startup_script.sh

[Bug 1977614] Re: [MIR] fdk-aac-free

2024-03-15 Thread Mark Esler
The upstream chain for fdk-aac-free is precarious.

The Debian package fdk-aac-free watches
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/wtaymans/fdk-aac-stripped/ This version
specifically removes the HE (High Efficiency) and HEv2 profiles which
have patent concerns (see README.fedora).

This version does not regularly sync from upstream:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/opencore-amr/ Note that
https://github.com/mstorsjo/fdk-aac is a downstream of Fraunhofer's code
distributed on https://android.googlesource.com/platform/external/aac

Jorge has reported a potential vulnerability to
https://github.com/mstorsjo/fdk-aac/issues/167 and to Android's VRP.
Android responded saying that they require a PoC and directed Jorge to
https://bughunters.google.com/learn/invalid-reports/android-
platform/5148417640366080/bugs-with-negligible-security-
impact#unreachable-bugs

fdk-aac-free is not being maintained by syncing with upstream which may
contain security patches. Reporting issues about fdk-aac has so far been
fruitless.

Security could conclude our MIR now, but I suggest that fdk-aac-free is
reviewed next cycle if the owning team plans to work with fdk-aac-free.
Note that Fedora is also invested in fdk-aac-free and may share concerns
if made aware.

Side note: iiuc, the advantage of fdk-aac is that it works well on low resource
systems, like cell phones and possibly for remote desktop. This advantage may
not exist if HE profiles are stripped. If that is the case, there are aac
alternatives.

[Bug 2047758] Re: Cannot save PDFs due to PikePDF incompatibility, solved & patched upstream

2024-03-15 Thread Sudip Mukherjee
I have been trying to reproduce the issue on Jammy and I could not. And,
I also checked for libqpdf, 11.6.4 has never been in Jammy.

Lets chech few things, pdfarranger depends pikepdf. Can you please run
these 2 commands and paste the output:

1. sudo find / -name "libqpdf*.so*" 2>/dev/null
2. ldd /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/pikepdf/*.so

These should show the libqpdf version you have and which one pikepdf is
trying to use.

[Bug 2052809] Re: [MIR] bpftrace

2024-03-15 Thread Mark Esler
I reviewed bpftrace 0.20.1 as checked into noble. This shouldn't be
considered a full audit but rather a quick gauge of maintainability.

> bpftrace is a high-level tracing language for Linux enhanced Berkeley
Packet Filter (eBPF) available in recent Linux kernels (4.x). bpftrace
uses LLVM as a backend to compile scripts to BPF-bytecode and makes use
of BCC for interacting with the Linux BPF system, as well as existing
Linux tracing capabilities: kernel dynamic tracing (kprobes), user-level
dynamic tracing (uprobes), and tracepoints. The bpftrace language is
inspired by awk and C, and predecessor tracers such as DTrace and
SystemTap. bpftrace was created by Alastair Robertson.

- CVE History:

  - nothing concerning
  - except what MIR Team mentions (libcereal-dev)

- Processes spawned?
  - can run modprobe kheaders
  - exec rm -rf temp dir
  - execve and exec_system expected for tracing
  - ./src/bpftrace.cpp line 666 o.o
- Memory management?
  - relatively light, mostly sprintf and memcpy
  - see comments in bpftrace.cpp's perf_event_printer()
- memory use is carefully thought out
- File IO?
  - opens /sys/kernel/kheaders.tar.xz (module must be loaded)
  - files, descriptors, pipes, and pcap used for tracing
- Logging?
  - extremely heavy use, as expected for tracing
- Environment variable usage?
  - mostly BPFTRACE_ variables
- Use of privileged functions?
  - ./src/attached_probe.cpp uses ioctl twice
- Use of cryptography / random number sources etc?
  - none
- Use of temp files?
  - yes, to load kheaders
- temp path is predictable, `// already unpacked`
- potentially, an unprivileged attacker could exploit this when a root user
runs bpftrace and loads Kernel Headers
- Resolved quickly by upstream! CVE-2024-2313
- Use of networking?
  - moderate use
  - potential danger for crafted input
- Use of WebKit?
  - none
- Use of PolicyKit?

  - none, besides tests and scripts
- Any significant Coverity results?
  - appear to be false positives
- Any significant shellcheck results?
  - none, besides tests, scripts, and CI
- Any significant bandit results?
  - none

Running bpftrace without root privilege results in 'ERROR: bpftrace
currently only supports running as the root user.' :)

In most cases a bug in bpftrace will not cause a loss of security; root
already has complete control. Giving access to bpftrace to an
unprivileged user, telnet, etc would not be a vulnerability in bpftrace.
Running dangerous BPF code is not the fault of bpftrace. Attacks based
on parsing untrusted data, such as network traffic, is a threat. This
package is for performing inherently dangerous wizardry. This review
expects that developers will want to use these tools and that system
administrators will make wise choices.

Binaries from bpfcc-tools, libbpfcc, and bpftrace have redundant functions.
Please consder which binaries should be made default. In particular, most
bpftrace binaries are
 merely examples.

CONFIG_IKHEADERS=m is already available \o/

Recent breaking change to `args` in v19.0 (Noble has 20.1, Jammy has
14.0). https://github.com/bpftrace/bpftrace/pull/2578

In code comments should be reviewed upstream: `// FIXME when iovisor/bcc#2064
is merged`
 - https://github.com/bpftrace/bpftrace/issues/3061

Upstream was extraordinarily quick at addressing a potential security which was
reported to them \o/
 - CVE-2024-2313

Security team ACK for promoting bpftrace to main.

[Bug 2052813] Re: [MIR] bpfcc

2024-03-15 Thread Mark Esler
I reviewed bpfcc 0.29.1+ds-1ubuntu2 as checked into noble. This shouldn't be
considered a full audit but rather a quick gauge of maintainability.

- CVE History
  - no CVEs tracked in UCT, initially
  - searching for "bcc" CVEs finds false-positives
- Build-Depends
  - nothing concerning
- pre/post inst/rm scripts
  - typical dh_python3 for python3-bpfcc
- init scripts
  - none
- systemd units
  - none
- dbus services
  - none
- setuid binaries
  - none
- binaries in PATH
  - numerous. +220.
- sudo fragments
  - none
- polkit files
  - none
- udev rules
  - none
- unit tests / autopkgtests
  - some added
- cron jobs
  - none
- Build logs
  - hardening-no-pie is not a concern in this case
  - manual page warnings
  - W: libbpfcc: package-name-doesnt-match-sonames libbcc-bpf0 libbcc0

- Processes spawned
  - popen use looks okay
  - system("clear") is fine
  - memleak.c uses fork, etc
- Memory management
  - extremely heavy use
  - in context, I am not concerned with occult practices in this package
- File IO
  - heavy use
- Logging
  - extremely heavy use
- Environment variable usage
  - none
- Use of privileged functions
  - Security's MIR tooling finds many false-positives
  - vmlinux headers are fine
- Use of cryptography / random number sources etc
  - none
  - vminux*.h sets certificate configs
- Use of temp files
  - tmp race conditions possibly allow unauthenticated users to control
unpacked kernel headers
- Resolved quickly by upstream! CVE-2024-2314
- see related issue in bpftrace MIR (LP#2052809)
- Use of networking
  - heavy use
- Use of WebKit
  - none
- Use of PolicyKit
  - none

- Any significant cppcheck and Covreity results
  - bugs found (memory leaks etc), but not concerned about these being
vulnerabilities in context
  - parsing untrusted data (e.g., network traffic) could possibly lead to
exploitation
  - coverity.txt attached
- Any significant shellcheck results
  - not concerning
- Any significant bandit results
  - none
  - subprocess calls cannot be controlled without root access
- Any significant govulncheck results
  - none
- Any significant Semgrep results
  - none
  - complaints about system() and strtok excused in context

There is 986,872 loc. Security's review is limited.

As with bpftrace, these are admin tools which require root access. It is
unlikely that most bugs in bpfcc would cause a loss of security and
become a vulnerability; root already has control. Parsing untrusted data
with a root process can lead to trouble. This review expects that
developers will want to use these tools and that system administrators
will make wise choices.

Some binaries do not work out of box. This needs testings. e.g.,
/usr/sbin/tcptop-bpfcc from bpfcc-tools does not work, but
/usr/sbin/tcptop from libbpfcc does.

Binaries from bpfcc-tools, libbpfcc, and bpftrace have redundant
functions. Please consider which binaries should be made default. In
particular, most bpftrace binaries are merely examples.

The bcc snap is published by Canonical and should be updated. See
./snap/README.md

Upstream was extraordinarily quick at addressing a potential security issue
which was reported to them \o/
 - CVE-2024-2314

Security team ACK for promoting bpfcc to main. Note that Security's ACK
is for all packages generated by the bpfcc source package, the MIR
Team's ACK may only be for a subset of binary packages.

[Bug 2046477] Re: Enable unprivileged user namespace restrictions by default

2024-03-15 Thread John Johansen
@pitti: yes this intended. At this stage we are essentially enumerating
the known users of unprivileged user namespaces. We can ship the profile
for you or you are welcome to ship it.

In the future this is going to gradually tighten, some of the
"unconfined" profiles will be developed into real profiles, unconfined
(including these profiles) will get tied into integrity checks, or
require user exceptions in the security center, etc.

[Bug 2015420] Re: motd: can't disable esm-related messages

2024-03-15 Thread Renan Rodrigo
To verify there are no regressions in messages, and that the new option
in apt-check works as intended, I have executed the unit test suite for
all releases, as it covers the message generation for an exhaustive
amount of cases.

On Xenial and Bionic I had to add the data/ folder to the pythonpath, so
it could import apt_check and run the unit tests.

On those releases, one unit test is failed. But the test also fails for the
version without the patch that fixes this bug, so the behavior is kept. This
error probably happens because the test misses a mock to is_esm, which is
returning True for Xenial and Bionic. This is a bug.
New tests pass for both releases.

This concludes the regression testing, and assures funcionality works in

[Bug 2046477] Re: Enable unprivileged user namespace restrictions by default

2024-03-15 Thread John Johansen
It solves several problems, but not all.

With regard to unprivileged user namespace mediation it should fix
 - mscode
 - nautilis
 - devhelp
 - element-desktop
 - piphany
 - evolution
 - keybase
 - opam

the element-desktop is still known to have some issues, which are on the snapd
side. It needs to add some interfaces etc.

there is a beta3 coming early next week with additional fixes coming.
The full set won't be finalized until beta3 is rolled this weekend.

I'm attaching another file. Now it is constantly happening and the last
time it happened I did not have the monitors connected.

I hope you guys can find out the reason... It makes working almost
impossible to work.

[Bug 2057636] Re: [FFe] Symfony 6

2024-03-15 Thread Utkarsh Gupta
Hey Athos, thanks for raising this up.

Honestly, I hate the fact we have to do it after FF but I guess it is
how it is. I know symfony can be annoying and so on but I guess, the
only way is to JFDI. :)

After assessing, I think the benefit to cost ratio is positive and I
feel it's worth doing this now. Worst case, we can roll back the version
if we think we're having too much difficulty getting things migrated.

So I think let's do this! Please consider this as an FFe approval. Go
ahead with the upload. :)

[Bug 2057842] Re: FFe: freedp2 -> freerdp3 in main

2024-03-15 Thread Graham Inggs
FFe approved.

Note that freerdp3 will still need a MIR. Considering this is a
straight swap with freerdp2, from the same upstream, it might still be
possible for that to be done in time.

[Bug 2024937]

2024-03-15 Thread Felix-niederwanger
As a workaround,
https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1088564#c7 worked for me:

> mkdir -p ~/.config/plasma-workspace/env/ksshagt.sh
> vim ~/.config/plasma-workspace/env/ksshagt.sh
>
> if [ -z "$SSH_AUTH_SOCK" ] ; then
> eval `ssh-agent -s`
> fi

And then after logging in, a simple `ssh-add` makes you insert the
passphrase once and you're good to go.

[Bug 2058054] Re: zramswap ignores defaults file

2024-03-15 Thread Daniel Brown
It certainly would be helpful if Ubuntu would/could consolidate down to
just one working recommended package and remove the others to avoid
conflicts. zram-tools appears to be a 0.x release and doesn't seem to
have had any updates in a while so it would seem like a candidate to be
removed, esp if its not going to get fixed.

[Bug 2058054] Re: zramswap ignores defaults file

2024-03-15 Thread wontfix
Upstream archived this package in 2020. Debian is the defacto maintainer
now @ https://salsa.debian.org/debian/zram-tools making the current
homepage data, misleading. I don't understand why it still exists in the
Ubuntu repos if it is conflicting with Ubuntu's zram-config and systemd-
zram-generator was created four years ago.

[Bug 2057842] Re: FFe: freedp2 -> freerdp3 in main

2024-03-15 Thread Jeremy Bícha
** Description changed:

  Feature Freeze Exception Request
  --
There are only 2 packages in Ubuntu main that use freerdp2: remmina and
gnome-remote-desktop. It is requested to switch both to freerdp3. Therefore
only one version of freerdp will be in main. freerdp2 will be demoted to
universe since many universe packages use it and are not prepared to switch to
freerdp3.

- This also requests updating gdm and gnome-control-center to fully enable
- the features of gnome-remote-desktop 46.
+ This also requests updating gnome-control-center to fully enable the
+ features of gnome-remote-desktop 46.

  Impact
  --
A headline feature of GNOME 46 is support as a Remote Desktop server without
requiring someone to already be logged in locally ("headless" mode). This
feature requires gnome-remote-desktop 46. gnome-remote-desktop 46 requires
freerdp3.

Impact if this does not happen
  --
  - We would need to patch gnome-control-center to use the older Remote Desktop
panel
- - We would need to keep using gnome-remote-desktop 45 instead of 46. The
gnome-remote-desktop upstream maintainers would be unhappy with this decision.
gnome-remote-desktop 45 was tested against Mutter 45. Changes in Mutter 46 may
require changes in gnome-remote-desktop for things to work well although a
simple test showed that basic remote desktop seems to work ok with the mismatch.

Why this did not land sooner
  ---
It required the packaging of a new source package freerdp3. And we had to do
this sooner than Debian. Sorry too many things to do before Feature Freeze and
this did not make it.

  Affected Packages
  -
  - gnome-remote-desktop 45 -> 46
- - gdm3 45 -> 46 (to support headless mode)
  - gnome-control-center (to update the Remote Desktop settings page)
-
  - remmina 1.4.34 -> 1.4.35 and swap build-depends. Remmina 1.4.34 did not
work with freerdp 3.3 in my testing
  - gnome-connections (build-dependency swap): Not required by other changes
and not in Main but makes sense to switch it also

  Affected Flavors

Only Ubuntu Desktop and Edubuntu ships gdm3, gnome-control-center,
gnome-remote-desktop. (Cinnamon 23.04 and daily 23.10 also ships
gnome-control-center but this appears to be a bug since they ship
cinnamon-control-center and is likely already fixed in noble-proposed)

Remmina is included in Ubuntu Desktop, Cinnamon, Kylin, and Unity.

gnome-connections has no reverse dependencies or recommends.

I have backported GNOME Shell 46 RC and GTK4 4.13 to the Ubuntu Desktop PPA.
The PPA currently has noble-proposed disabled so that it is easily possible to

  1. From Ubuntu 23.10 client using Remmina, I was successfully able to connect

[Bug 2057964] Re: xserver for NVDIA GeForce GT710 not showing widgets but windows

2024-03-15 Thread IngPaolo
I've executed the command "apport-collect 2057964" twice: the first with
nvdia-driver-470, the second with xorg-xserver driver.
I've also got two screenshots.
In this first screenshot you can see that in the side bar do not appear any
my-weather-indicator window and the two gadgets showing weather in two
different italian cities are positioned on the right side of my desktop. These

[Bug 2057964] Re: xserver for NVDIA GeForce GT710 not showing widgets but windows

2024-03-15 Thread IngPaolo
apport information

** Tags added: wayland-session

** Description changed:

On my Ububtu 22.04.4 system, NVDIA GeForce GT710, my-weather-indicator does
not show widget as they should be (move them across desktop, positioning,
showing on all desktop, etc.), but are shown as windows, impossible to move
from the position they have when shown.
If I switch my drivers to nvdia-driver-470, surprise!: everything works as
expected, widgets are really widgets and I can see weather information on every
desktop, in the position I placed them.
The problem is that I can't use nvdia-driver-470 because they let crash my
digital signature application, which is more important to me than weather info,
so I have to use xorg-server, but I would like it to work correctly with
widgets as well.

Re: [Bug 2058053] Re: Change sudo compile options from --with-all-insults to --with-pc-insults

2024-03-15 Thread dh
I may have put 2+2 together and made 5 here then. Pulling strings from the
library i could see one of the insults that i thought was only included
inside the elseif statement for PC being set. I'll double check as i may
have been looking at an old git revision, or perhaps there was a config
option i overlooked for offensive vs tame insults which left it included in
the library

[Bug 2058031] Re: [SRU] Backport 0.107.1-3 to Ubuntu 22.04

2024-03-15 Thread Danilo Egea Gondolfo
** Description changed:

- [tbd]
+ Stable Release Update for netplan.io 0.107.1-3 to Jammy. This version
+ has many bug fixes and new features we want to make available to users
+ of Ubuntu 22.04.
+
+ One big change with this updated is the split of netplan.io in different
+ packages. netplan.io now contains the CLI code, netplan-generator
+ contains the systemd generator used to emit the configuration and
+ python3-netplan contains the netplan python module used by the CLI and
+ external consumers of libnetplan.
+
+ Changelog:
+
+ * Backport netplan.io 0.107.1-3 to 22.04 (LP: #2058031):
+ - Support for "dummy" (`dummy-devices`) interfaces (LP: #1774203) (!361)
+ - Support for "veth" (`virtual-ethernets`) interfaces (!368)
+ - Add Python bindings for libnetplan (!385)
+ - netplan: Handle command exceptions (!334)
+ - WPA3 (personal) support (LP: #2023238) (!369)
+ - Add all the commands to the bash completion file (LP: #1749869) (!326)
+ - New submodule for state manipulation (!379)
+ - commands/status: show routes from all routing tables (!390)
+ - cli:status: Make rich pretty printing optional (!388)

+ share/netplan/netplan. This directory is supposed to be removed after
+ the upgrade from netplan.io 0.106.1 to 0.107, as the Python code
+ was moved to it's own python3-netplan package, but it's left behind
+ due to Python cached files.
+ * Drop changes related to usr-merge and not required for 23.10:
+ - debian/netplan-generator.install
+ - debian/netplan-generator.postinst
+ - debian/netplan-generator.preinst
+ * debian/netplan-generator.lintian-overrides:
+ - Drop overrides file. It wasn't really silencing any lintian warnings.

[Bug 2058053] Re: Change sudo compile options from --with-all-insults to --with-pc-insults

2024-03-15 Thread Marc Deslauriers
I'm not sure I understand this bug, the --with-pc-insults option is
deprecated since 2017-09-18 as it is the default option.

The noble package doesn't use --enable-offensive-insults.

[Bug 2038648] Re: package sosreport 4.4-1ubuntu0.18.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: installed sosreport package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

2024-03-15 Thread Mauricio Faria de Oliveira
By the way, if at all possible, could you please test the changes on top of
sosreport 4.4 in Bionic (for a minimal change, instead of 4.7) so that we can
SRU it to the Ubuntu Archive, to address non-Pro/ESM users?
(Bionic in Ubuntu Pro/ESM can have the newer version).

[Bug 2047758] Re: Cannot save PDFs due to PikePDF incompatibility, solved & patched upstream

2024-03-15 Thread Fabio M. Panico
Hi, I would like to say that I'm facing the same problem. Hope it's ok
to add this comment into this bug report.

I recently made a fresh install of ubuntu 22.04-04. And when trying to
combine 2 pdfs, PDF-Arranger gives me this error: "use
pikepdf.PDF.pages interface to copy pages from one PDF to another"

Installed versions are:
pdfarranger 1.8.2-1
libqpdf28 10.6.3-1

I don't know to tell if pdfarranger is using this libqpdf or another
version, but if someone could explain I'm willing to do it.

2024-03-15 Thread Mauricio Faria de Oliveira
Hi Arif,

Cool, thanks for the tests and logs!

Did you also have a chance to compare apt history.log (or another log for this
purpose),
as we discussed, to be able to address/consider the point from Robie in comment
#3?

Thanks again,

[Bug 2055818] Re: Intermittent UI freezes since LTS HWE linux 6.5.0-18

2024-03-15 Thread Dennis Gnad
Additional info and observations:

 - Sometimes there is also flickering in videos (for example zoom
calls), without freezing

 - The flickering and freezes seem to be less (but not entirely
removed!) when using a lower refresh rate

 - While I am using the mouse, no flickering will occur, as soon as I
stop moving, it will sometimes flicker - freezing seems to be able to
happen while moving the mouse

 - The used screen is a 144 Hz screen with support for AMD FreeSync,
including the AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT GPU in the system. The screen is
also connected with Displayport as supposed to be for FreeSync. In a
dual-booted Windows, FreeSync is automatically activated and seems to
work, and there are no freezes. - I am not sure how to check if FreeSync
is enabled/used in Ubuntu.

Perhaps you can run gramps from the terminal cause the crash, and copy
any text printed in the terminal and try running apport-collect again?
