[Bug 2058327] Re: Starting up Files app in external monitor freeze the entire monitor

2024-03-19 Thread Teh Kok How
Why do I need to run the steps? What are they for?

I can't click and do anything on the external monitor which freezes.
Only the primary monitor is available when this happens. I don't have
any network mounts.

[Bug 2056696] Re: All Snaps are denied the ability to use DBus for notifications and apptray indicators in KDE-based flavors

2024-03-19 Thread Alex Murray
So I installed kubuntu-desktop on an up-to-date noble VM and then after
logging into the kubuntu session I was able to reproduce the issue for
Notifications but I couldn't see anything owning the /StatusNotifierItem
dbus path.

For notifications I submitted
https://github.com/snapcore/snapd/pull/13737 to snapd which should
resolve that but if anyone can help me reproduce the issue for the
status notifier item that would be great. FWIW I have attached a
screenshot of d-feet showing the various dbus paths owned by plasmashell
and /StatusNotifierItem is not listed. Am I perhaps missing some other
package that doesn't get pulled in by the standard kubuntu-desktop
metapackage?

[Bug 2058191] Re: Getting SIGSEGV and SIGILL in many programs

2024-03-19 Thread Eduardo P. Gomez
In dmesg log, i saw a line starting with "mar 20 02:04:10 eduapps
whoopsie-upload-all[8574]" which was written by whoopsie that gave me a
brave crash log.

brave crash log is big but gives good info of what's going on. if you
search for the word "SIGSEGV" you will find where the error occurs.

2024-03-19 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Please try:
 * Uninstalling: nautilus-image-converter
 * Running: gsettings set org.gnome.nautilus.window-state maximized false

Also when you say "freeze the entire external monitor" does that mean
launching a second different app fails to render on that monitor? Or
does it just mean Nautilus started full screen?

[Bug 2055077] Re: cloudinit.sources.DataSourceEc2:583 Calling 'None' failed

2024-03-19 Thread Dan Bungert
Erich,

Please attach a full tarball of /var/log/installer.

The original way I wanted to address this issue is pending on livecd-
rootfs. livecd-rootfs v24.04.49 is still in proposed, and when it
migrates I will see to 24.04.50 being uploaded if it isn't already,
which has my preferred version of the fix for this.

I am concerned that you are seeing a different issue, so that is why I'm
asking for logs.

Telltale sign is error appearing in the cloudInitOk check, but this

Also this:

○ cloud-init.service - Initial cloud-init job (metadata service crawler)
 Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/cloud-init.service; enabled;
preset: enabled)
 Active: inactive (dead)

I'm fairly certain that means our nasty cloud-init bug is back.

Using either of these, it doesn't matter:

[Bug 2054218] Re: kvm: Running perf against qemu processes results in page fault inside guest

2024-03-19 Thread Matthew Ruffell
Performing verification for mantic.

I deployed mantic onto a bare metal server, with kernel 6.5.0-26-generic from
-updates.

I installed a KVM stack, synced a cloud image, and tested VM creation.

$ uvt-kvm create --cpu 4 --memory 4096 --disk 10 jammy-a release=jammy
arch=amd64
$ uvt-kvm ssh jammy-a
Welcome to Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS (GNU/Linux 5.15.0-101-generic x86_64)

From there, I found the PID of the VM:

$ ps aux | grep qemu
libvirt+1799  107  1.5 9642380 1044752 ? Sl   03:21   0:38
/usr/bin/qemu-system-x86_64 -name guest=jammy-a,debug-threads=on -S -object
{"qom-ty

We run perf:

$ sudo perf top -p 1799

$ virsh console jammy-a
Connected to domain 'jammy-a'
Escape character is ^] (Ctrl + ])
[ 161.413890] BUG: unable to handle page fault for address: fe18cdb1c028
[ 161.419474] #PF: supervisor read access in kernel mode
[  161.423707] #PF: error_code(0x) - not-present page
[ 161.427949] PGD 17ffca0[ 161.429508] BUG: unable to handle page fault for
address: fe18cdb1c028
[ 161.429513] #PF: supervisor read access in kernel mode
[  161.429516] #PF: error_code(0x) - n

The VM suffers a page fault and crashes, and is not accessible over ssh.

$ uvt-kvm ssh jammy-a
(no response).

I then enabled -proposed, and installed 6.5.0-27-generic:

$ uname -rv
6.5.0-27-generic #28-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Thu Mar  7 18:21:00 UTC 2024

$ uvt-kvm create --cpu 4 --memory 4096 --disk 10 jammy-a release=jammy
arch=amd64
$ uvt-kvm ssh jammy-a
Welcome to Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS (GNU/Linux 5.15.0-101-generic x86_64)

We get the pid of the VM:

$ ps aux | grep qemu
libvirt+1786 42.5  1.5 7960876 1022308 ? Sl   03:37   0:40
/usr/bin/qemu-system-x86_64 -name guest=jammy-a,debug-threads=on -S -object
{"qom-ty

We run perf:

$ sudo perf top -p 1786

This time, the VM does not crash, and stays running:

$ virsh console jammy-a
Connected to domain 'jammy-a'
Escape character is ^] (Ctrl + ])

jammy-a login:
jammy-a login:

We can also ssh to the VM just fine:

$ uvt-kvm ssh jammy-a
Welcome to Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS (GNU/Linux 5.15.0-101-generic x86_64)

This is much better. The kernel in -proposed fixes the issue, happy to
mark verified for mantic.

If you're using X11 with multiple monitors though, the problem can't be
fullscreen direct scanout. It's more likely a bug in the app.

[Bug 2058327] Re: Starting up Files app in external monitor freeze the entire monitor

2024-03-19 Thread Daniel van Vugt
This might be fullscreen direct scanout, which happens when a window is
maximized on a monitor that has no panel or dock. Please try
unmaximizing the window and just dragging it to the second monitor as a
regular window. This should also help to work around the problem:

  gsettings set org.gnome.nautilus.window-state maximized false

But it doesn't explain the freeze. Next time the freeze occurs, please
immediately open a Terminal and run:

  journalctl -b0 > journal.txt

and attach the resulting text file here.

[Bug 2019247] Re: perf should be compiled with libtraceevent

2024-03-19 Thread Craig Ringer
This still appears to be an issue. Events are listed in `perf list` but
not available for use by `perf record`

e.g.

$ sudo /usr/lib/linux-tools/6.2.0-39-generic/perf record -e
syscalls:sys_enter_fsync -ag
event syntax error: 'syscalls:sys_enter_fsync'
 \___ unsupported tracepoint

libtraceevent is necessary for tracepoint support
Run 'perf list' for a list of valid events

 Usage: perf record [] []
or: perf record [] --  []

-e, --eventevent selector. use 'perf list' to list
available events

➜  test git:(UPM-29742) ✗ /usr/lib/linux-tools/6.2.0-39-generic/perf version
perf version 6.2.16

Thank you.

By changing the steps below, I was able to play midi on the game on
wine.

from: timidity -iAD -B2,8 -Os1l -s 44100
to:   timidity -iA &

However, I am not satisfied with the wine game sound on ubuntu-22.04.4 overall.
The sound is distorted in parts other than midi and does not sound like
ubuntu-20.04.
I don't think this is a timidity issue.

According to https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/2.4.7-1.2ubuntu1
they did, so you’ll need https://evolvis.org/plugins/scmgit/cgi-
bin/gitweb.cgi?p=alioth/openjdk-8.git;a=commitdiff;h=6586b716485710c94fa2bcb1b85989393f37d856
as well. I’m not uploading this as openjdk-8_8u402-ga-5 to Debian right
now as it does not affect Debian and we have the t64 transition still
going on and I want to keep buildd load down, but you can consider this
as released and use it; I’ll ensure the next upload will have a larger
version.

[Bug 2003316] Re: [needs-packaging] Please add mysql-shell to ubuntu

2024-03-19 Thread Lena Voytek
** Description changed:

+ Dear Release Team,
+
+ Please accept this new package as a noble FFe.
+
+ PPA: https://launchpad.net/~lvoytek/+archive/ubuntu/mysql-shell-noble
+
+ The package is currently awaiting approval in the new queue for noble.
+ It was ready to upload prior to feature freeze, but the time_t64
+ transition caused it to break temporarily.
+
+ [Rationale]
+
+ MySQL Shell is a new package in Ubuntu for managing MySQL infrastructure
+ and setups. The inclusion of this package in universe should not affect
+ anything externally since it is a new package without reverse-
+ dependencies.
+
+ Ideally this MySQL Shell would be included in noble for the convenience
+ of building it into data platforms charms, and for users who want a more
+ complete MySQL environment.
+
+
+ [Tests]
+
+ Two DEP-8 tests are included with this package, and both are passing on all
architectures.
+ The first is managetables. It exercises the functionality of MySQL Shell's
Python and SQL modes by creating and modifying tables on a local MySQL instance.
+ The second is secretstore. It tests the additional included binary
mysql-secret-store-login-path by using all its options, storing, erasing,
getting, and showing all.
+
+
+ [Original Description]
+
  Hi,

  The mysql-shell is a tool to manage complex MySQL InnoDB cluster setups:
  https://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql-shell/8.0/en/

  Can you please add it into Ubuntu?

  URL: https://github.com/mysql/mysql-shell
  License: GPL https://github.com/mysql/mysql-shell/blob/master/LICENSE

  Note:

  Data Platform Team is using it to manage cluster in our charms:

  https://github.com/canonical/mysql-operator/
  https://github.com/canonical/mysql-k8s-operator

  and Canonical security team need to provide support for 10 years here.
  It will be way easier to support it as a part of standard Canonical support.

  IMPORTANT: the version of mysql-shell must match mysql-server version!

  Thank you in advance!

8u402-ga-4 actually, but first we have to check if Ubuntu indeed stays
with libcups2 (in which case that version should work) or also switches
to libcups2t64 (in which case another change is needed). 8u402-ga-3 had

[Bug 2056080] Re: Update version in noble to 1707406511ubuntu3 (due to new LLVM version & updates blocked)

2024-03-19 Thread bastif
Yes, unfortunately there is no easy way to upgrade between update1 & the
fix. One has to purge the buggy package first :/

That's why the sooner this is uploaded the better, in the hope that as
few people as possible have them installed.

You can also have a look at the conversation in
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1065668 which mentions
the same problem & how to proceed.

[Bug 2058417] [NEW] hibernation not working on m5.large instance first boot

2024-03-19 Thread Mitchell Dzurick
Public bug reported:

I noticed that when creating an m5.large noble instance, hibernation is
not resuming properly after first creation. I haven't had a ton of time
to look into it yet, but I did see 2 observations:

* hibinit-resume is not being ran
* re-running the unit file makes things work as expected. e.g. `sudo systemctl
restart hibinit-agent`

[Bug 2058415] [NEW] Reading binary date broken by libexpat1 update

2024-03-19 Thread Carsten Gräser
Public bug reported:

The recent update of libexpat1 to version 2.5.0-2ubuntu0.1 broke Paraview.
In particular reading vtu files containing binary data fails since this update.
When trying to open files that worked fine before, Paraview now reports a
parsing error like this one:

ERROR: In vtkXMLParser.cxx, line 376
vtkXMLDataParser (0x5b0ac36fc970): Error parsing XML in stream at line 21,
column 0, byte index 1036: not well-formed (invalid token)

ERROR: In vtkXMLReader.cxx, line 521
vtkXMLUnstructuredGridReader (0x5b0ac3d3b670): Error parsing input file.
ReadXMLInformation aborting.

The problem disappears when reverting libexpat1 to version 2.5.0-2.

I attempted to provoke this behavior by installing google-android-build-

upgrade, that seemed to work ok. Would you add more details about

** Description changed:

- Howdy!
-
- This is just a generic request for Octavia 10.1.1 to be SRUed, as there
- are a number of useful fixes that it would be nice to see pulled in. I'm
- having trouble finding when that version was actually released[1], but
- looking at the last-modify times on the source files, I'd guesstimate on
- or around 08 Feb 2024.
-
- Thanks!

+ Upstream Octavia has released version 10.1.1 a while ago. The Yoga
+ branch is unmaintained at this point and 10.1.1 is the last official

Regarding the main issue with the unable to mount to root, do you get the same
errors prior to it as in the working installation? Are the kernel commandline
the same? Any other differences?

error: out of memory.

Press any key to continue...

The above messages are likely coming from the bootloader (grub2). Which
version of grub2 is being used? How exactly is the install being done,
e.g. via USB or some other method?

Can you try booting into the openfirmware prompt (Press 8 after
restarting or activating the LPAR) and print out the real-base value? It
should hopefully be set to the default value of 0xC0.

0 > printenv real-base

ok

If not 0xC0 then try setting it with

0 > setenv real-base c0

[Bug 1876597] Re: [SRU] package pure-ftpd-common 1.0.49-4 failed to install/upgrade: unable to open '/usr/share/doc/pure-ftpd-common/README.Authentication-Modules.gz.dpkg-new': No such file or directo

2024-03-19 Thread Dan Bungert
Hi Sudip, thanks for the debdiff. I have some suggestions:

* in the backport of the rules changes, there is a small out-of-order
difference. I'm referring to the new dh_installdocs call being after
dh_installchangelogs instead of before. I'm 99.9% certain that it doesn't
matter, but it would be nice to make this precisely match what was done in
1.0.49-4.1, to reduce the odds of new problems and for ease of patch reviews.
* I believe the version number references in the four maintscript files needs
to be corrected for the actual version being uploaded. They reference
1.0.49-4.1~ but I think that they need to be updated to 1.0.49-4ubuntu0.1~ .
* The test plan references pure-ftpd, but I presume the other packages listed
in the maintscript updates are also affected. Would you update the testplan to
reflect all the binary packages being changed? I suggest also amending the
test plan to reflect that updates to the Jammy version of the pure-ftpd
packages still work.

Removing ubuntu-sponsors for the moment, please re-subscribe ubuntu-
sponsors when you want someone to look again. Thanks!

[Bug 2057937] Re: apt-news.service reporting errors after ubuntu-pro-client install

2024-03-19 Thread Andreas Hasenack
** Changed in: ubuntu-advantage-tools (Ubuntu Noble)
   Status: Triaged => In Progress

** Description changed:

  [ Impact ]

  src:ubuntu-advantage-tools version 31 introduced[1] an apparmor profile
  to the apt-news service. It's known that some ubuntu systems do not have
  apparmor enabled, and this was considered. The systemd.exec(5) manpage
  states that the AppArmorProfile setting has no effect if apparmor is
  disabled[2]. This was tested and verified.

  Turns out, however, that apparmor can be enabled on a system, but
  without the apparmor package installed. When this package is not
  installed, no profiles are loaded. Crucially, the ubuntu_pro_apt_news
  profile, used by apt-news.service, is not loaded.

  This situation is different than "apparmor is disabled", and systemd
  will try to launch apt-news confined by ubuntu_pro_apt_news. But since
  that profile is not loaded into the kernel, the service will fail.

  apt-news.service is called as an apt update hook, but its failure does
  not fail apt, since it's guarded[3] by "|| true", i.e., failures in the
  hook are ignored. The only impact is that apt news won't be fetched.

  [ Test Plan ]

  To reproduce the problem, launch an ubuntu lxd container, or a VM, and:

  # install ubuntu-advantage-tools 31 or later. It's in updates right now,
  so just make sure the system is updated:

  sudo apt update && sudo apt install ubuntu-advantage-tools -y

  # verify it's version 31 or higher:

  $ dpkg -l ubuntu-advantage-tools | grep ubuntu-advantage-tools
  ii ubuntu-advantage-tools 31.2~22.04 all transitional dummy
package for ubuntu-pro-client

  # remove (not purge) apparmor:

  sudo apt remove apparmor -y

  # reboot

  sudo reboot

  # start apt-news.service, and verify it fails:

  $ sudo systemctl start apt-news.service
  Job for apt-news.service failed because the control process exited with error
code.
  See "systemctl status apt-news.service" and "journalctl -xeu
apt-news.service" for details.

  # The log will show it's because it couldn't confine the service with
  the ubuntu_pro_apt_news profile:

  $ systemctl status apt-news.service
  × apt-news.service - Update APT News

'exit-code'.
  Mar 18 20:35:41 j systemd[1]: Failed to start Update APT News.

  With the fixed package, the service will not fail to start.

  [ Where problems could occur ]

  The fix is essentially ignoring errors when loading the specified
  apparmor profile, leaving the service unconfined in the case of an error
  like this, which is exactly how it was prior to the version 31 update.
  If the profile is loaded in the kernel, it will be applied as designed.

  Since we are now ignoring errors, if the profile has some syntax error,
  we would be running apt-news with the previously loaded profile, or, in
  the case of a reboot, unconfined, without a visible error other than
  logs. This could only happen if the user made manual changes to the
  profile, because the u-a-t package runs a syntax check on the profile at
  package build time.
