[Bug 2058557] Re: Kernel panic during checkbox stress_ng_test on Grace running noble 6.8 (arm64+largemem) kernel
Upon further investigation, the device mapper observation does not seem to be a hard line, as I was able to observe panics when stressing both dm-0 and nvme0n1 under different circumstances. At the moment, it also seems like the specific part of stress_ng_test that is the culprit is the "stress-ng aiol stressor". When running only the "aiol" stressor in isolation on linux-image-6.8.0-11-generic-64k, the panic reliably happens in under 5 minutes. ** Description changed: As requested by the Ubuntu Release Team, I am providing early notice of - a Feature Freeze Exception I intend to request soon (later this week - hopefully) to split the gnome-software package into separate binary - plugins. This will allow users and flavors to specifically opt into the - parts of the GNOME Software experience they want. This will allow users and flavors to specifically opt into the parts of the GNOME Software experience they want. For instance, someone may want to use only the Flatpak part because they use the Snap Store to manage .debs and Snaps. Or maybe they want a different combination. + + This has been requested by multiple users on Ubuntu Discourse and at + least one Launchpad bug and one Debian bug. Potential Problems --- + For new installs, gnome-software has Depends: gnome-software-plugin-deb | gnome-software-plugin. Where gnome-software-plugin is a virtual package provided by each plugin so a user would get gnome-software-plugin-deb installed unless they specifically chose a different plugin or the metapackage they installed did. + However, I think this won't work right for upgrades. I am going to + investigate whether I can add a ubuntu-release-upgrader quirk to install + gnome-software-plugin-deb for people who already have gnome-software + installed. Maybe I need to treat gnome-software like a metapackage so I + can use PostUpgradeInstall + + Otherwise, people are likely to lose support for installing .debs with + GNOME Software and it is not obvious why. Other Related Changes - - fwupd + I am dropping the fwupd plugin. Ubuntu Desktop includes the firmware-updater snap. Several Ubuntu desktop flavors also include it. For people who don't want snaps, there is also the gnome-firmware app packaged as a .deb. + Because Ubuntu already has update-manager to handle apt update + notifications, I am also dropping the autostart file to reduce + background RAM use. + + A few Ubuntu desktop flavors do not provide any firmware updater app at + all. Ubuntu Budgie developers thought a firmware updater app was too + technical for inclusion in the default Ubuntu 24.04 LTS install. yes, the problem still exists and there're no special cmdlines, just the systemd-standard-start-procedures. just tried it on a fresh installation and there's no reason, why the problem should have gone, because the files of the installed xorgxrdp-packages are still the same out of 2022. all packages are up to date but meanwhile I had a workaround found for this problem by fixing the elf-binaries manually (which shows, that the modules above are badly linked): # install pkg 'patchelf' and execute following on shell: patchelf --add-needed /usr/lib/xorg/modules/libxorgxrdp.so /usr/lib/xorg/modules/input/xrdpkeyb_drv.so patchelf --add-needed /usr/lib/xorg/modules/libxorgxrdp.so /usr/lib/xorg/modules/input/xrdpmouse_drv.so patchelf --add-needed /usr/lib/xorg/modules/libglamoregl.so /usr/lib/xorg/modules/libxorgxrdp.so I don't know, why this isn't needed on your system (maybe someone has done it?) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2008650 Title: missing symbol in modules prevent start of Xserver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorgxrdp/+bug/2008650/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 2058557] Re: Kernel panic during checkbox stress_ng_test on Grace running noble 6.8 (arm64+largemem) kernel
I have observed that this panic does not seem to happen when stressing non-device-mapper devices (ex: it panics when running /usr/lib/checkbox- provider-base/bin/stress_ng_test.py disk --device dm-0 --base-time 240, but completes successfully when running /usr/lib/checkbox-provider- base/bin/stress_ng_test.py disk --device nvme0n1 --base-time 240). [Bug 2056442] Re: Podman (crun) regression in Ubuntu 22.04: OCI runtime error: chmod `run/shm`: Operation not supported
Sorry, I just did not fix the first line when editing the test plan ** Description changed: [Impact] podman containers using the default crun backend do not work anymore with the 6.5 HWE kernel in 22.04 [Test plan] - Needs to be finalized, but roughly: - 1. Boot jammy with 6.5 HWE kernel (e.g. install linux-virtual-hwe-22.04 in a VM) 2. `podman build -t systemd .` with the Dockerfile: FROM ubuntu:noble RUN apt install -U systemd -y CMD ["/lib/systemd/systemd"] 3. Run it `podman run --systemd always systemd` you should not get Error: OCI runtime error: chmod `run/shm`: Operation not supported Optimally submitter can do end-to-end-verification on their side. [Where problems could occur] The patch ignores ENOTSUP for fchmodat() in one function, so at most we could silently hide some other issues in fchmodat() inside that function, e.g. AppArmor denials. But generally that is what you would want as a behavior for ENOTSUP... [Original bug report] The problem is very well described in https://github.com/actions/runner- images/issues/9425. ## COPY FROM LINK I think there might be a regression in this release of the ubuntu-22.04 image which breaks podman.[1] The image updated the kernel from 6.2.y to 6.5.y, but podman/crun don't seem to be updated. Use a Focal system. 2. sudo add-apt-repository ppa:sudipmuk/pure-ftpd 3. sudo apt update 4. sudo apt-get install pure-ftpd=1.0.46-1ubuntu18.04.1~ppa1 pure-ftpd-common=1.0.46-1ubuntu18.04.1~ppa1 5. sudo apt-get upgrade With the fixed package, pure-ftpd will now upgrade to the version in Focal. + + Redo the quick testplan for pure-ftpd-mysql, pure-ftpd-ldap, pure-ftpd- + postgresql to confirm they do not have any regression. These binaries do + not have this original issue. + [ Where problems could occur ] It does not change any part of the code, only change is in the d/rules file which removes the symlink from /usr/share/doc/pure-ftpd* to pure- ftpd-common and instead uses dpkg-maintscript-helper scripts to manage the symlink. There should not be any regression in the software for this change. [ Other Info ] This has been fixed in Debian by pure-ftpd/1.0.49-4.1 and so Jammy onwards is not affected. [Bug 2058690] [NEW] aa-easyprof: allow mmap and link from easyprof generated profiles
Public bug reported: Currently, an easyprof-generated profile will list the reads with `rk` and the writes as `rwk`. With recent Qt, this breaks because newer Qt versions use hard-linking of temporary files to perform atomic writes. Also, `rk` doesn't allow mmap()'ing shared library for execution. We at UBports are carrying a patch in Ubuntu Touch which changes the read rules to `mrk` and write rules to `mrwkl`, and are upstreaming this patch at [1]. When the MR is merged, I would like this patch to be included in Ubuntu 24.04, so that Ubuntu Touch doesn't have to package AppArmor separately from Ubuntu. [Bug 2003851] Re: occasional hanging 'apt-get update' from daily cronjob since Jammy 22.04
Hello, also affected by this. I'm able to reproduce the bug using Walter's mock server. I suspect it may be related to the retry code that kicks in when a transient error is encountered (like a 503). Retries are enabled by default since apt 2.3.2, which seems to fit the regression window people have mentioned here. Frustratingly, I can't reproduce while step debugging, I'm guessing because the bug is clock-dependent. Setting either `Acquire::Retries::Delay=false` or `Acquire::Retries=0` seems to mitigate it. I'm curious if that works for others as well. I'll be testing this in prod soon and will report back. In the mean time I'll keep trying to find the actual bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2003851 Title: occasional hanging 'apt-get update' from daily cronjob since Jammy 22.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+bug/2003851/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2056762] Re: ThreadSanitizer: unexpected memory mapping with 6.5.0-25.25~22.04.1
https://github.com/google/sanitizers/issues/1716#issuecomment-2010399341 Summarizing: newer ThreadSanitizer has been updated to be able to work with vm.mmap_rnd_bits = 30, but not higher than that. For other cases, it will now re-execute the binary with ASLR disabled, if possible. For most people the quick workaround of setting vm.mmap_rnd_bits to 28 might work, but of course you won't get the benefits intended with #1983357 either. So at some point, it would be nice to have the upstream ThreadSanitizer fixes backported. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2056762 Title: ThreadSanitizer: unexpected memory mapping with 6.5.0-25.25~22.04.1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2056762/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2055776] Re: After updating ubuntu, the network to which the subnet address is assigned does not become active in KVM.
I found this bug report after experiencing the same problem. The error message I got was exactly the same as the one in comment #2. The fix suggested by Kazuhiro in comment #9 fixed the problem. I think that since this bug affects more than one person, it's not merely a problem with one person's local environment. I didn't have occasion to use KVM between 2024-02-27 and today, but it was working for me before then and I didn't manually change anything in my environment. I don't know enough about Ubuntu networking to say whether it's a bug in dnsmasq or another component, but surely a package upgrade shouldn't break something like this. $ cat /var/log/apt/history.log.1 (snip) Start-Date: 2024-02-27 06:19:38 Commandline: /usr/bin/unattended-upgrade Upgrade: dnsmasq-base:amd64 (2.89-1, 2.90-0ubuntu0.23.10.1) End-Date: 2024-02-27 06:19:42 (snip) $ cat /etc/issue Ubuntu 23.10 \n \l $ virsh --version 9.6.0 $ /usr/sbin/dnsmasq --version Dnsmasq version 2.90 Copyright (c) 2000-2024 Simon Kelley Compile time options: IPv6 GNU-getopt DBus no-UBus i18n IDN2 DHCP DHCPv6 no-Lua TFTP conntrack ipset nftset auth cryptohash DNSSEC loop-detect inotify dumpfile This software comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY. [Bug 2058687] [NEW] [SRU] libreoffice 7.6.6 for mantic
Public bug reported: [Impact] * LibreOffice 7.6.6 is in its sixth bugfix release of the 7.6 line: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan/7.6#7.6.6_release * Version 7.6.5 is currently released in mantic. For a list of fixed bugs compared to 7.6.5 see the list of bugs fixed in the release candidates of 7.6.6 (that's a total of ? bugs): https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/7.6.6/RC1#List_of_fixed_bugs https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/7.6.6/RC2#List_of_fixed_bugs 7.6.6 RC2 is identical to the 7.6.6 release * Given the nature of the project, the complexity of the codebase and the high level of quality assurance upstream, it is preferable to SRU a minor release rather than cherry-pick selected bug fixes. [Testing] * Upstream testing. Bugs fixed upstream typically include unit/regression tests, and the release itself is extensively exercised (both in an automated manner and manually). * A recent set of upstream's automated jenkins testing can be found here: https://ci.libreoffice.org/job/gerrit_76/1898/ * More information about the upstream QA testing can be found here: * Automated tests https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Automated_Tests * Automated UI tests https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Development/UITests * Regression tests https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Regression_Tests * Feature tests https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Feature_Tests * Launchpad testing. [Bug 2058661] Re: rocr-runtime 5.7.1-2 fails to build on armhf
Note that no version of rocr-runtime has ever built successfully for armhf. rocr-runtime should probably be limited to amd64, arm64 and ppc64el (as those are the only architectures that have driver support from AMDGPU KFD). I've been cautious about dropping architectures that successfully built because I cannot test them to confirm that they don't actually work. I'm not sure it's even physically possible to install an AMD GPU into an IBM System z mainframe (s390x). However, I suppose that I could easily add `Build-Depend: architecture- is-64-bit` to d/control so that it doesn't attempt to build for armhf. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2058661 Title: rocr-runtime 5.7.1-2 fails to build on armhf To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rocr-runtime/+bug/2058661/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
