[Bug 2033195] Re: No sound on ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 16 G634JZ

2024-03-29 Thread Daniel Berlin
Doing this "right" requires kernel patch (attached).
This will work on 2024 model JZR.
A similar version will work on 2023 if you add the right subsystem ids[1] to
the patch.

You can also work around this by creating /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
and adding

options snd-hda-intel model=1043:1caf

and then rebooting.

(For those following along at home, don't try this on anything but a G634J
model unless you know what you are doing. The Cirrus windows driver inf reuses
the 1caf model tunings, and has a comment saying this is explicitly correct -
the newer G634 just have a different speaker vendor, but reuse the tunings/etc
from the older model )

[1] lspci -nn -v and look for the subsystem id:

:00:1f.3 Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation Raptor Lake High Definition
Audio Controller [8086:7a50] (rev 11) (prog-if 80)
DeviceName: Onboard - Sound
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Device [1043:3a60]

Replace the 10433a60 in the patch with the right subsystem id.

[Bug 2059807] Re: Power management settings on Ryzen 7 5800H are missing

2024-03-29 Thread Mario Limonciello
This is because amd-pstate is in active mode but nothing is tuning EPP
most likely.

Try to upgrade to this version of power profiles daemon:

https://launchpad.net/~superm1/+archive/ubuntu/ppd

Then you can change the power setting using the Gnome or kde GUI for it
or by using powerprofilesctl.

[Bug 2059817] Re: Image viewer renders SVG improperly

2024-03-29 Thread Stephen T Satchell
In discussing this bug with a friend, he reminded me that, in the "flash
and escape" phototypesetters, when you wanted to change the aspect ratio
of a letterform, you has to set anamorphic magnification. It appears
that InkScape has a habit of using complex scaling algorithms to effect
this anamorphic magnification. This could well be confusing some of the
image renderers. Looking at the XML coding, Inkscape sometimes changes
the font height, then changes Y magnification to compensate. Sometimes
it doesn't. This may be the root cause of the bug.

Any road, the issue is that each letterform in a variable-width font has
an image, and a width value (sometimes called "escapement", harkening
back to the days of the spinning-disk optical phototypesetters where the
paradigk was "flash and escape".) The width values are not being scaled
properly. This is most likely a simple oversight, and if so it's easy
to fix.

In further tests, I find that Chrome, Firefox, and LibreOffice Draw
renders the image correctly. Of course, the image was created in
InkScape, so it's rendering is also as expected.

Dia displays an error when loading the image. Document Viewer: SVG not

[Bug 2059776] Re: Updates cannot handle apt *.sources files

2024-03-29 Thread Gordon Lack
Note that this is being reported against mantic (23.10) so what Jammy
can/cannot do is not really relevant.

The bit about the entire Default section disappearing seems to have
sorted itself out, but the absence of any information about sources
configured using *.sources files is still present.

This applies both to the list shown in "Settings/Default source" and the
"Software Sources/Other Software" tab.

I'll attach the screenshots and the sources/list.d and trusted.gpg.d
directories that led to them (these correspond to the same repositories,
but Sources-1 just has 1 *.sources file (winehq) as it has been upgraded
from Jammy with each 6-month release (just editing the release name in
the *.list files) whereas Sources-5 is from a fresh install of Mantic on
a new system with recent add-apt-repository runs (mostly form
Launchpad), which now produces *.sources files.

[Bug 2059819] [NEW] Regression: Jammy to Noble, right clicking on some icons shows dropdown on left side of screen

2024-03-29 Thread theofficialgman
Public bug reported:

In ubuntu jammy and previous releases, right clicking on appindicator
icons brings up the menu below the appindicator with appropriate gnome
theming. In ubuntu noble, right clicking on some appindicator icons
(example: barrier) results in the menu appearing on the left side of the
screen without proper theming.

See attached image.

[Bug 1970521] Re: [SRU] boinc-client crashes when started with core dump on Xubuntu 22.04

2024-03-29 Thread Sudip Mukherjee
debdiff attached.

** Summary changed:

- boinc-client crashes when started with core dump on Xubuntu 22.04
+ [SRU] boinc-client crashes when started with core dump on Xubuntu 22.04

** Description changed:

+ [ Impact ]
+
+ boinc-client is completely unusable on older CPU which does not have avx like
a Celeron CPU.
+ It will crash immediately if run on old CPU, but will run without any problem
on newer CPUs.
+
+ [ Test Plan ]
+
+ It should be done on both types of CPUs, one which has AVX, and one which
does not have AVX.
+ If using qemu then "-cpu Conroe-v1" will emulate Celeron CPU without AVX.
+
+ Confirm with the command "lscpu" and check the flags if "avx" is listed
+ or not.
+
+ Commands to execute for testing on both CPUs:
+
+ 1. Install boinc
+ 2. Execute "boinc" from a terminal
+
+ If the package is not fixed then it will fail to start.
+
+ [ Where problems could occur ]
+
+ There is no change in the code and is only modifying debian/rules so
+ that the built binary does not have any machine instruction for AVX. It
+ will result in a different executable machine code but chances of
+ regression due to this is very low.
+
+ [ Other Info ]
+
+ This change is from Debian and is part of Ubuntu from Manctic onwards. There
has been no reported regression due to this change.
+ The Debian change is at:
https://salsa.debian.org/pkg-boinc-team/boinc/-/commit/a0611c2bc86864428337b07b382e4d5cf823b95d

[Bug 2059801] Re: No PDF downloads at the official website

2024-03-29 Thread Ade Malsasa Akbar
Sorry I forgot to write the URL and thank you for the working link. Here
was the URL I meant https://xubuntu.github.io/xubuntu-
docs/user/C/index.html and the PDF links still returned 404 even now.
However, for your link, I can confirm yes the PDF files work fine. Note:
your link shows a 2017 date, while my link shows a 2022 date.

Best regards,

Malsasa

** Description changed:

When I went to the official documentation online, I clicked the links
under "Would you rather read this documentation in PDF?" and both links
- returned error messages "404 File not found".
+ returned error messages "404 File not found". [EDITED] The URL is here
+ https://xubuntu.github.io/xubuntu-docs/user/C/index.html.

I can confirm that I succeeded in building the documentation offline and
produce PDFs by following the official development documentation. I
think the PDF files should be available on the website.

Please fix the PDF downloads. Thank you very much.

  Best regards,

  Ade Malsasa Akbar

[Bug 2059814] [NEW] Enable GDS in the 6.8 based linux-nvidia kernel

2024-03-29 Thread Brad Figg
Public bug reported:

GDS enables a direct data path for direct memory access (DMA) transfers
between GPU memory and storage, which avoids a bounce buffer through the
CPU. This direct path increases system bandwidth and decreases the
latency and utilization load on the CPU.

This functionality has been enabled in all previous kernel versions and
needs to be in this kernel so there is no loss of functionality for
users.

2024-03-29 Thread roland aus köln
what has been changed?

I installed fresh lubuntu 23.10 and appended all updates, then created a
new user and logged in this one.

screensaver is gl-matrix for this new user and it's still hogging the
CPU when in a VM

[Bug 2059807] [NEW] Power management settings on Ryzen 7 5800H are missing

2024-03-29 Thread Leonardo Müller
Public bug reported:

After the update to kernel 6.5, cpufreq no longer has options to set
most governors or frequencies. The only available options are powersave
and performance, but changing between them seem to have no effect.
Consequently, the CPU temperature is always high: while with the 6.2
kernel it would idle at under 50°C, now with 6.5 it's idling at 65°C.
Under a load that, with the 6.2 kernel, would result in around 80°C on
CPU and 70°C on motherboard, now with the 6.5 it results in 100°C on
both CPU and motherboard (I barely can touch the laptop because it gets
so hot).

To be able to use my laptop properly, I'm having to choose the 6.2
kernel on boot time.

[Bug 2057744] Re: Crash on new event dialog

2024-03-29 Thread Ross Gammon
Hi Igor,

That last message was automatically generated. I am getting the same
error trying to get a backtrace from the crash file locally on my
system.

Did you modify the file before uploading it?

The error message is not helpful in finding the offending line in the
file.

You shouldn't worry about launchpad revealing private information.
Launchpad removes this automatically these days (I think). You can check
it later and mark the bug private if you like.

[Bug 2059417] Re: Sync xz-utils 5.6.1-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2024-03-29 Thread Daniel Richard G.
Important context from https://lists.debian.org/debian-security-
announce/2024/msg00057.html :

Andres Freund discovered that the upstream source tarballs for xz-utils,
the XZ-format compression utilities, are compromised and inject
malicious code, at build time, into the resulting liblzma5 library.

Right now no Debian stable versions are known to be affected.
Compromised packages were part of the Debian testing, unstable and
experimental distributions, with versions ranging from 5.5.1alpha-0.1
(uploaded on 2024-02-01), up to and including 5.6.1-1. The package has
been reverted to use the upstream 5.4.5 code, which we have versioned
  5.6.1+really5.4.5-1.

[Bug 2059721] Re: ovn db upgrade

2024-03-29 Thread Vadim Kuznetsov
Here is my explanation:
1. According to ovn docs
https://docs.ovn.org/en/latest/intro/install/ovn-upgrades.html
"The only step required after upgrading the packages is to restart ovn-northd,
which automatically restarts the databases and upgrades the database schema, as
well.
if you’re using a Linux distribution with systemd:
$ sudo systemctl restart ovn-northd

which is not true in Ubuntu case
```
ExecStart=/usr/share/ovn/scripts/ovn-ctl start_northd --ovn-manage-ovsdb=no
--no-monitor $OVN_CTL_OPTS
```
ovn-manage-ovsdb=no, so it will not restart the DBs.

2. DB restarts by ovn-ovsdb-server-nb.service and ovn-ovsdb-server-sb.service
run_nb_ovsdb and run_sb_ovsdb options in ovn-ctl
```
ExecStart=/usr/share/ovn/scripts/ovn-ctl run_nb_ovsdb $OVN_CTL_OPTS
```

3. This commit fixed Cluster OVN database upgrade
https://github.com/ovn-org/ovn/commit/67e2f386cc838d0b0f9b4b5da7fe611e1113b70c
in this bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ovn/+bug/1907081

This is the code that is responsible for the upgrade
https://github.com/ovn-org/ovn/blob/5c2d311b8b7b4d5c3a619de72be6a433aa4c44db/utilities/ovn-ctl#L293
```
if test X$detach = Xno && test $mode = cluster && test -z
"$cluster_remote_addr" ; then
```
First two checks are true.
Third check means upgrade_cluster (L313) will run on leader node, i.e
--db-nb-cluster-remote-addr= and --db-sb-cluster-remote-addr= is not set.

4. During rolling upgrades of controller nodes, the leader will likely move.
OVS_CTL_OPTS generated from this template
https://github.com/openstack/openstack-ansible-os_neutron/blob/stable/2023.1/templates/ovn-northd-opts.j2
but only when new node joins the cluster
https://github.com/openstack/openstack-ansible-os_neutron/blob/stable/2023.1/tasks/providers/ovn_cluster_setup.yml#L105
so after upgrade all 3 nodes will have --db-nb-cluster-remote-addr and
--db-sb-cluster-remote-addr set to the some value that was leader node at that
time.

What we need is --db-nb-cluster-remote-addr= not set on leader node, so
during ovn-central restart on leader node upgrade_cluster will run.

[Bug 1936449] Re: [SRU] numptyphysics segfault on startup on XUb 21.04

2024-03-29 Thread Sudip Mukherjee
debdiff attached.

** Summary changed:

- numptyphysics segfault on startup on XUb 21.04
+ [SRU] numptyphysics segfault on startup on XUb 21.04

** Description changed:

+ [ Impact ]
+
+ numptyphysics is completely unusable as it will segfault immediately on
+ start.
+
+ [ Test Plan ]
+
+ 1. Install numptyphysics
+ 2. Start numptyphysics
+ 3. Play the game to check it works
+
+ If the package is not fixed then it will fail to start.
+
+
+ [ Where problems could occur ]
+
+ This is changing the code and is now returning valid values from non-
+ void functions, so the runtime behaviour of the application will change.
+ So, there might be a little chance that the some of the return values
+ are not as expected. But, currently the application does not even start,
+ and any regression due to this change can not be more than that.
+
+ [ Other Info ]
+
+ This change is from Debian and is part of Ubuntu from Jammy onwards.
+ There has been no reported regression.
+
+
+ [ Original Bug Description ]
+
  Reproduce
  =
  - `sudo apt install numptyphysics`
  - `numptyphysics`
  - Actual: segfault

[Bug 2049860] Re: cloud-init cloud-config for ssh broken in jammy

2024-03-29 Thread DisasteR
@jchittum --

I use Jammy images from cloud-images.ubuntu.com.
I tested multiple daily images from 2024 like :
20240315.1
20240319

And i cannot connect to the vm by ssh using password with `ssh_pwauth:
True`

Cloud init configuration still set `passwordauthentication no` in
`/etc/ssh/sshd_config.d/`

I reverted to image release-20231211 based on this issue date and
everything is working fine.

I suppose this is the same problem as status is still `Fix Committed`
for cloud-images.

[Bug 2059799] [NEW] GIMP N-Point Deformation crash on initial click

2024-03-29 Thread Jacob
Public bug reported:

I ran gimp with `gimp --show-playground`, went to Edit -> Preferences ->
Playground, enabled N-Point Deformation and Seamless Cloning. Closed
GIMP, opened GIMP without the `--show-playground` option, loaded a
512x512 PNG, duplicated the layer, clicked on the N-Point Deformation
tool icon in the tool box to the left, clicked on the image, a circle
shape appeared where I clicked, then GIMP crashed a split second later.

[Bug 2059798] [NEW] debugedit 1:5.0-5build1 fails to build on amd64, preventing co-installation with post-t64-transition packages

2024-03-29 Thread Ratchanan Srirattanamet
Public bug reported:

debugedit 1:5.0-5build1 has been in noble-proposed since 2023-03-01.
However, due to build failure on amd64 [1], it has not been migrated to
the release pocket. Since the new build is a rebuild against libelf1t64,
this means currently we can't install debugedit together with e.g. gdb
which has already been rebuilt.

We at UBports are starting to build our packages against Noble. A number
of our packages build-depend on both debugedit (via debhelper) and gdb
(for test's stacktrace), which means we cannot install build
dependencies for those packages.

Could you please have a look at this?

[Bug 2059801] [NEW] No PDF downloads at the official website

2024-03-29 Thread Ade Malsasa Akbar
Public bug reported:

When I went to the official documentation online, I clicked the links
under "Would you rather read this documentation in PDF?" and both links
returned error messages "404 File not found".

I can confirm that I succeeded in building the documentation offline and
produce PDFs by following the official development documentation. I
think the PDF files should be available on the website.

Please fix the PDF downloads. Thank you very much.

Best regards,

Ade Malsasa Akbar

[Bug 2059781] Re: [22.04.4] The computer freezes after standby mode.

2024-03-29 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on
Libera.chat.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/2059781/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 2059721] Re: ovn db upgrade

2024-03-29 Thread Dmitriy Rabotyagov
Nah, I guess I just meant - after it. I just spotted that DB schema was
updated only when ovn-northd -> ovn-central are restarted. For me ovn-
central did not start on it's own, but I cut couple of corners while
trying to reproduce the issue. Eventually, I just upgraded a host rather
then re-install it. So that's why it could be working in my test env, as
database was present on the expected location during OVN startup, rather
then it needs to fetch it and convert.

That comment should not show. Selecting the entry and clicking Edit allows
adjusting the main Ubuntu repository source settings which should not be

[Bug 1597017] Re: mount rules grant excessive permissions

2024-03-29 Thread Steve Beattie
** Description changed:

+ SRU Team; the packages for focal-proposed and jammy-proposed are
+ intended as security updates prepared by the Ubuntu Security team (and
+ have built in a ppa with only the security pockets enabled). However,
+ because the fix makes mount rules in apparmor policy be treated more
+ restrictively than they were prior to this update, we would like these
+ packages to gain more widespread testing.
+
+ Risk of Regression:
+
+ The update for this issue causes the apparmor parser, the tool that
+ translates written policy into the enforcement data structures used by
+ the kernel, to generate more strict policy for mount rules, like the
+ example below. They are not common in apparmor policy generally, but can
+ appear in policies written for container managers to restrict
+ containers, and thus can potentially break container startup.
+
+ The packages prepared for focal-proposed and jammy-proposed have tested
+ with the versions of snapd, lxc, libvirt, and docker in the ubuntu
+ archive, but conainter managers outside of the ubunty archive may run
+ into issues, hence the need for testing and policy adjustments.
+
+ Original Report:
+
  The rule
-   mount options=(rw,make-slave) -> **,
+   mount options=(rw,make-slave) -> **,

  ends up allowing
- mount -t proc proc /mnt
+   mount -t proc proc /mnt

which it shouldn't as it should be restricted to commands with a make-
  slave flag

[Bug 2059721] Re: ovn db upgrade

2024-03-29 Thread Vadim Kuznetsov
I reinstalled host OS and rebuild it from scratch including all containers.
I reinstalled compute nodes one by one, not to overload OpenStack
Infrastructure.
I'm using venv_wheel_build_enable=False to get around.
Alternative can be to reinstall and rebuild only infra (repo, galera, rabbitmq)
one of the controller, then rebuild compute nodes one by one with limit, then
come back and finish first controller.
btw glusterfs on repo needs to be upgraded to 10 before rebuilding first repo
server.
Also imo more services (not just keystone) do not support limit with recent
releases.

Question: You said "you need to restart ovn-northd service and ovn-central
right after it"
Why "right after it" is significant?

It seems to me I did restarted services "right after it".

I aslo restarted it after I completed upgrade of all controllers and the
day after :)

After restarting ovn-northd I only see ovn-northd. 2 ovsdb-server are not
started.
According ovn docs that that the only thing is needed to finish ovn upgrade.
But you also restarted ovn-central.
Me too. otherwise ovsdb-servers will stay down.
