Yep, Focal is also affected. Will this fix also be available for Focal?

Edit:
I have tried to add it here, but looked wrong. Not sure if it's the right way
to add Focal to this bug.

[Bug 2055012] Re: When I upgraded from 22.04 to 24.04, DNS resolution went wrong.

2024-04-16 Thread Zalán Hári
** Description changed:

I was an unpatient idiot, and I upgraded from 22.04 to 24.04. Near to
the end of the upgrade, I got an „Oh, no! Something has gone wrong and
the system cannot recover. Call the system administrator” message after
a red FAILED in the terminal. The system administrator is myself,
because my computer is a personal one. Hard reset, same error,
Ctrl+Alt+F3, sudo apt reinstall gdm3. Obviously. I needed to finish the
update with dpkg. While dpkg was upgrading, it printed an error message
  for every WiFi connection:

„[Failed] Failed to migrate [I do not remember, something with
  /etc/netplan]”

- It took at least one and a half our to find the solution on Ask Ubuntu.
+ It took at least one and a half hour to find the solution on Ask Ubuntu.
The problem was: /etc/resolv.conf became a broken link, along with
systemd-resolve.service. I needed to remove both of them and write a new
  resolv.conf to fix the error.

[Bug 2060575] Re: gnome-keyring fails to automatically unlock login keyring after recent updates in noble

2024-04-16 Thread Jurgen Schellaert
I believe that the evolution mail program and google accounts are to
blame.

The problem went away for me after I deleted my keyring and switched
from evolution to thunderbird.

Trying to (re-)add a mail account to evolution immediately brings the
problem is back.

results... also booted & ran it on d780 (which I'm using now) and
results are rather slow.

Even though I initially filed this bug report on dc7700; the testcase is
listed as an "INSTALL USING EXISTING PARTITION" which is a no-format
install; meaning some old stuff can be found.. thus probably this
issue..

The copy/paste of command is from a very recent install of noble on this
box.

[Bug 2061940] [NEW] Some DUTs can't boot up after installing the proposed kernel on Mantic

2024-04-16 Thread Kevin Yeh
Public bug reported:

During the SRU testing for 6.5.0.33 kernel, I found some machines freeze at
very early stage of booting process.
The last messages displayed on the screen are:
EFI stub: Loaded initrd from LINUX_EFI_INITRD_MEDIA_GUID device path
EFI stub: Measured initrd data into PCR 9

There are not journal logs existed when I boot with previous kernel.

[Bug 2028158] Re: [SRU] Duplicate Device_dax ids Created and hence Probing is Failing.

2024-04-16 Thread Michael Reed
Source: https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/memory-hotplug.txt

How to online memory

When the memory is hot-added, the kernel decides whether or not to "online"
it according to the policy which can be read from "auto_online_blocks" file::

% cat /sys/devices/system/memory/auto_online_blocks

The default depends on the CONFIG_MEMORY_HOTPLUG_DEFAULT_ONLINE kernel config
option. If it is disabled the default is "offline" which means the newly added
memory is not in a ready-to-use state and you have to "online" the newly added
memory blocks manually. Automatic onlining can be requested by writing "online"
to "auto_online_blocks" file::

% echo online > /sys/devices/system/memory/auto_online_blocks

This sets a global policy and impacts all memory blocks that will subsequently
be hotplugged.

If this is enabled by default then the following should achieve the same
goal as disabling the config option:

echo offline > /sys/devices/system/memory/auto_online_blocks

[Bug 2061739] Re: crash in meta_wayland_transaction_commit

2024-04-16 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Please try using apport-cli if ubuntu-bug fails, but I guess both might
fail if any packages are out of date.

I'm guessing this crash is due to some extension because nobody else is
reporting it, and because you seem to have so many extensions installed.
And because the crashing code seems to be called directly from some
Javascript. So please try removing gnome-shell extensions from the
system.

[Bug 2061936] [NEW] Chrome starts, but runs wild in the bg (never gets to the screen). chromium works fine.

2024-04-16 Thread Cesar A. Quiroz
Public bug reported:

This started today. The chrome snap was automatically updated (updates
to chrome have been arriving fast). After the update, chrome started
failing:

* Clocking on the launcher succeeds, but nothing pops up to the screen.
The UI freezes (can't even updated htop on a term).

* Right clicking on the launcher icon, followed by choosing Quit
restores responsiveness, but there is no chrome.

* chromium launches fine.

Both images come from the same snap.

I had a hard time diagnosing this issue due to the difficulty of finding
this bug report. As I use Focal, I didn't think to check the Jammy
board. The general Ubuntu board has a report for this issue, but since
it's marked as a duplicate of this one it is hidden by default.

missed. I missed containerd-app and runc-app packages. When I talked to
@lucaskanashiro last time, I thought it's fine that he wants to lock
containerd and runc on golang-1.21 because it's fine to use build-deps
from universe for main packages. But I forgot that containerd and runc
have Built-Using field which still references golang-1.21!

[Bug 2061929] Re: Python docker page does not import: No module named 'distutils'

2024-04-16 Thread A. Karl Kornel
I've been doing some checking, and it looks like this is because Python
3.12 (the default python3) no longer includes distutils. See
https://docs.python.org/3.12/whatsnew/3.12.html (the first paragraph
under the heading "Summary – Release highlights"), as well as PEP-0632
(https://peps.python.org/pep-0632/).

I figured this out when I tried downgrading the package to the version
in Mantic (5.0.3-1ubuntu1): `dpkg` complained that it depends on
`python3-distutils`. That led me to searching for the package in Noble,
and getting to this point.

(Adding the `regression-release` tag. Apologies if this is the wrong
regression tag to apply!)

BTW, this isn't affecting Debian 12 because they're using Python 3.11,
the last Python version to include distutils in the standard library.
Debian sid is currently on Python 3.11.8, so they haven't hit this issue
yet.

As for upstream, looking at PyPi
(https://pypi.org/project/docker/#history), 5.0.3 was the last of the
5.x series. Their latest versions are 6.1.3 and 7.0.0. Their changelog
page (https://docker-py.readthedocs.io/en/stable/change-log.html) does
not explicitly say when they moved away from distutils, but from Git
commits it looks like the removal happened in
https://github.com/docker/docker-
py/commit/42789818bed5d86b487a030e2e60b02bf0cfa284, which was included
in the 6.0.0 and later releases.

So, what to do in the meantime? According to PEP-0632, Setuptools
adopted distutils, and this started to happen in Setuptools 48
(https://github.com/pypa/setuptools/issues/417#issuecomment-653593796).
Since the python3-setuptools package in Noble is newer
(68.1.2-2ubuntu1), probably the best workaround is for `python3-docker`
to depend on `python3-setuptools`.

== Regression details ==
Discovered in version:5.0.3-1ubuntu1
Last known good version:5.0.3-1

[Bug 2061090] Re: [FFe] add libheif as a dependency

2024-04-16 Thread Vladimir Petko
** Description changed:

+ This issue depends on libheif update[1] as well as security review for
+ libyuv[2]
+
+ [Why it is needed]
+
+ libheif is ready to be included in main. Drop delta which removes
+ libheif as a dependencey. This will enable decoding HEIF files by
+ libgd2. See MIR for more details[3]
+
+ [Build]
+
+ PPA: ppa:vpa1977/libheif[4]
+
+ Testing:
+ - piuparts test [5]
+ - check piuparts log that libheif is installed (passes)[5].
+
+ [What can go wrong]
+
+ libheif might pull in unexpected dependencies. Validate that MIR is
+ completed for libheif dependencies in the scope of[1] testing.

2024-04-16 Thread Jeremy Bícha
I have synced this for you. However, we are in Beta Freeze and this is a
seeded package so the package will wait in the unapproved queue until a
member of the Ubuntu Release Team decides whether it is appropriate for
this feature to be accepted now.

I have unsubscribed ubuntu-sponsors. Please feel to resubscribe if you
have something else that needs to be sponsored.

[Bug 2061930] [NEW] linux-nvidia-6.5_6.5.0-1014.14 breaks with earlier BIOS release, and modeset/resolutions are wrong

2024-04-16 Thread Patrick Geary
Public bug reported:

There are a gigantic number of changes in 1014.14 compared to 1013

I suspect some of the aspeed fixes have been undone, the mode is now...
not what it was before, looks like it's falling back to 1024x768. This
patchset also brings in a bunch of... strange patches that don't involve
the nvidia tree at all.

When I boot an older BIOS series with 1013, works fine, with this it spits out,
upon systemd loading some mid-stage stuff:

Continue running under SSH?

This session appears to be running under ssh. It is not recommended
to perform a upgrade over ssh currently because in case of failure it
is harder to recover.

If you continue, an additional ssh daemon will be started at port
'1022'.
Do you want to continue?

Continue [yN] Y

Starting additional sshd

To make recovery in case of failure easier, an additional sshd will
be started on port '1022'. If anything goes wrong with the running
ssh you can still connect to the additional one.
If you run a firewall, you may need to temporarily open this port. As
this is potentially dangerous it's not done automatically. You can
open the port with e.g.:
'iptables -I INPUT -p tcp --dport 1022 -j ACCEPT'

[Bug 2061929] [NEW] Python docker page does not import: No module named 'distutils'

2024-04-16 Thread A. Karl Kornel
Public bug reported:

This is on a fresh install of the 20.04 beta that was released on April
12. I used the Desktop installer, into a VMware Fusion VM, on amd64.

Other than the defaults for a fresh Ubuntu Desktop install, all I ran
was `apt install -y docker.io python3-docker`.

I ran `python3`, tried to execute `import docker`, and got this:

[Bug 2061927] [NEW] Gnome Online Accounts setup removed from gnome-initial-setup

2024-04-16 Thread Erich Eickmeyer
Public bug reported:

Per LP: #2049513, Online Accounts integration was removed as opposed to
finding a downstream solution, which would have been as easy as using
the default web browser instead of a webkitgtk-powered popup.
Unfortunately, even though potential ideas were tossed around during the
Ubuntu Flavor Sync at Ubuntu Summit 2023 in Riga and the following
flavor sync online, obviously nothing ever came to fruition.

This issue is especially important to Edubuntu as one of its target
audiences (teachers) want to be able to set-up their systems for email
right away. gnome-initial-setup would give them that email setup out-of-
the-box.

This is a User Experience regression and a solution needs to be found
even if we need to implement one downstream.

[Bug 2060817] Re: gnome-initial-setup hardcoded to Ubuntu branding, not overridable

2024-04-16 Thread Erich Eickmeyer
I'll rephrase: We discussed keeping GOA in the mix of things able to
set-up in gnome-initial-setup downstream, but that didn't happen. I was
pretty adamant about keeping that feature. That didn't happen. And yes,
that needs to be a separate bug.

As for everything else, for now, I've blacklisted gnome-initial-setup
until these issues can be addressed.

2024-04-16 Thread ԜаӀtеr Ⅼарсһуnѕkі
I noticed today that Kubuntu's menu's lacking a hibernate option.

According to this post about hibernate, the Ubuntu platform expectation is that
it is unsupported:
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/re-visiting-hibernate-on-ubuntu/15953

For these reasons, it only makes sense to remove the option.

[Bug 2061924] [NEW] grip missing from (pre)noble (2024-04-16)

2024-04-16 Thread Mark Eichin
Public bug reported:

$ apt-cache show grip
N: Unable to locate package grip
E: No packages found

Jammy/22.04 had grip_4.2.0-3_all.deb "Preview GitHub Markdown files like
Readme locally". (Not the ancient gnome cd player/ripper app.) Didn't
see any bugs here about the package being dropped. No sources.list.d
changes (machine was installed from a pre-noble iso about half an hour
ago, full-upgrade changed nothing.)

(Looking at https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/grip it's been untouched in a
while and fell out of debian main releases; perhaps that's the cause,
though it is still in sid. I'm just not sure why I don't see some
matching reference ubuntu-side.)
