[Bug 1939898] Re: Unnatended postgresql-12 upgrade caused MAAS internal error

2021-08-16 Thread Adam Collard
I hit this in my development environment with no MAAS snap involved:
focal LXD container, long lived which then got updates to the various
postgresql packages via unattended-upgrades - see
https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/VrY4Gv8SyC/ for /var/log/apt/history.log
snippet, the last two entries being me trying to get out of the buggy
situation.

The issue showed up for me when I was running MAAS unit tests against a
change I was making. Initially showed as
https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/gKT6Mhzd34/ then I tried reinstalling the
postgresql-12 package in case there was some re-initalisation that would
be triggered. Finally I simply rebooted the container, at which point
the error went away.

[Bug 1594317] Re: Cannot start lxd-bridge.service when MAAS is managing DNS

2020-07-14 Thread Adam Collard
Can you `lxc network set lxdbr0 dns.mode=none` adjusting for the name of
your bridge.

This will tell LXD to not manage DNS on the bridge, as per
https://github.com/lxc/lxd/blob/master/doc/networks.md.

Note you might also want to disable DHCP: `lxc network set lxdbr0
ipv4.dhcp=false` and `lxc network set lxdbr0 ipv6.dhcp=false`

[Bug 1867159] Re: [SRU] MAAS 2.3.7

2020-04-02 Thread Adam Collard
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
  This is a new upstream release that addresses various issues:

  MAAS 2.3.7 includes fixes for the following issues:

   * LP: #1768870
   * LP: #1789932
   * LP: #1789721

   * LP: #1799161
   * LP: #1788780
   * LP: #1830365

  MAAS 2.3.7

  [Test Case]
  MAAS testing has been done in various cases. This include:

- 1. TODO: Manual Fresh installation of MAAS
+ 1. Manual Fresh installation of MAAS
  2. TODO: Manual upgrade from the previous Ubuntu Release.
  3. Automated (CI) testing of MAAS install and operation as per the MAAS' CI.
- 4. TODO: Automated (CI) testing of MAAS install and operation against other
Canonical's product (juju, Canonical OpenStack & Kubernetes) provided by the
Canonical Solutions QA Team.
+ 4. Automated (CI) testing of MAAS install and operation against other
Canonical's product (juju, Canonical OpenStack & Kubernetes) provided by the
Canonical Solutions QA Team.
  5. TODO: Manual split region/rack test are performed. This is to ensure that
if we upgrade a MAAS Region to a newer version, the MAAS rack of the older
version remains connected and operational.

  All of this includes verifying normal operation, issues fixed, and
  ensuring that Canonical Cloud solutions can inter-operate. MAAS releases
  are also now vetted by the Solutions QA team.

  [Regression Potential]
  Minimal (For MAAS). MAAS is fully backwards compatible (the CI ensures that's
the case) and handles upgrades from previous releases which result in the
continuous operation of MAAS.

  MAAS 2.3.7

  [Test Case]
  MAAS testing has been done in various cases. This include:

  1. TODO: Manual Fresh installation of MAAS
  2. TODO: Manual upgrade from the previous Ubuntu Release.
  3. Automated (CI) testing of MAAS install and operation as per the MAAS' CI.
  4. TODO: Automated (CI) testing of MAAS install and operation against other
Canonical's product (juju, Canonical OpenStack & Kubernetes) provided by the
Canonical Solutions QA Team.

MAAS releases
  are also now vetted by the Solutions QA team.

the case) and handles upgrades from previous releases which result in the
continuous operation of MAAS.

[Bug 1864360] Re: cryptsetup-run is transitional package, but removing it also removes cryptsetup-initramfs

2020-02-26 Thread Adam Collard
This makes it far too easy to make your system unbootable.

Snippet from /var/log/apt/history.log:
https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/kvgN6zhyQm/

This shows why I hit bug 1862215, I had purge'd all dummy transitional
packages in the belief that they were ... dummy, and transitional. It
turns out for crypetsetup-run that's not true since removing it means
initramfs lacks dm-crypt.ko and rendering my FDE'd HDD unusable with
kernels installed after it.

[Bug 1861096] [NEW] [FFe] FFe for 20.04 snap transition

2020-01-28 Thread Adam Collard
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Focal currently has MAAS 2.6.0.

This is a Feature Freeze Exception request for MAAS to allow the package
to move to a snap transition. Learning from, and copying code from the
LXD snap transition, along with support in `do-release-upgrade` the MAAS
team plans to release future MAAS versions as a snap.

Existing users will have their < 20.04 .deb upgraded to a snap
installation, using the correct track and architecture for the expected
release.

The binary packages from this package will be consolidated down to a
single one which will contain the deb to snap transition logic.

Data migration
==

Existing data will be untouched, and the snap configured to use whatever
db is currently in use.

Testing
===

Tests will be performed in several scenarios that cover the risks,
notably:

- snapd package not installed
- airgapped environments which e.g. cannot reach the Snap Store
- i386 architecture transition

For more information on the QA process MAAS follows, please see
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MAASUpdates .
