from the mainline PPA, same issue.
Looking at the boot output the last message I see is about gdm.service starting.
The machine freezes at the boot output as soon as the mouse cursor appears.

I can confirm this is a gnome-shell bug.
I tried booting with multi-user.target and manually starting gnome-

The brightness when returning from screensaver is at minimum
(xbrightness shows level 0), brightness keys work and so does
xbrightness -set 100.
Brightness control worked fine for me on Natty.

A note: mount.fuse has an hand-made command line parsing (no getopt), so it
doesn't recognize -o as an option if no space is put between option and
argument.
Without space, all options are ignored and defaults are used (hence no
allow_other).

I'm using a .pam_mount.conf.xml in my home dir to automatically mount
encfs at login on Ubuntu 10.10
My config file is:

This happened to me too, on a Dell Latitude D830 with Ubuntu 10.04.

I forgot to detail: the wifi can't reconnect to the previous network at
wakeup, but re-selecting it makes it work.

I have this problem on Karmic beta, when trying to connect to a WEP network
with shared key, NM keeps asking the key.
Editing connections, I see Open System is selected by default, manually
changing it to Shared Key solves the problem.

I have the same behaviuor on Ubuntu 8.10 x86_64.
Setting Multimedia player to a different one doesn't work.
Other settings, terminal emulator for instance, work as expected.
