On the Dell Latitude D620, the volume of the headphone jack in the port
replicator cannot be controlled by any of the mixer settings using
alsamixer. It can be muted and unmuted using the "IEC958" switch, but
that's all.

Fair enough, it *attempts* to open the keyring with the login password.
On a fresh install of Ubuntu, the passwords are the same, so the process

On further examination this happens only with some files.
The only difference I can see between the one file I have that works,
and the rest, is that the non-working ones have vobsub subtitles, and
the working one has SSA subtitles.
I'll try converting one of the vobsub ones to SSA and see if tha

Binary package hint: mplayer
Running at the console, mplayer tries, and fails, to use the x11 video
driver. It would be better if it tried to use other drivers, like fbdev
if it's available, or svga, or aalib as a last resort.

only in X. Switching VTs will allow the keyboard to work again for a

I don't know of any reason that that device would be an LVM PV.
