Adding those options to xorg.conf makes no difference. The log reported
and "metamodes" was not supported, so I removed that.
And the minimal xorg.conf is generated by 'dpkg-reconfigure xserver-
xorg' these days. I don't see in the log any DDC probe to get the
display's supported resolutions anymo

pinpoint the problem

I was going through the list of bugs that had upstream patches attached
to them, looking for those that would be included in the next kernel
release.
This patch doesn't seem to fix problems for everyone yet. Or am I
mistaken?
