unico was built with the nanoversion (0.1.0.1), the nanoversion is here just

center on a netbook is something we can't ignore), software center feels
like the slowest application shipping in ubuntu, even slower than
openoffice.
I guess part of this issue is the choice of python as the language, but

murrine is just using:
pango_cairo_layout_path (cr, layout);
murrine_set_color_rgba (cr, temp, 0.5);
cairo_stroke (cr);
to draw the layout.
pango_cairo_layout_path (cr, layout);
is slow, calling pango_cairo_show_layout (cr, layout) completely fixes
it is used by the app developer to change the color of the text (for
example the dialog appearing when you press the power button on your
laptop. with suspend, hibernate etc etc)
drawing the cairo path seems to eat the cpu, don't know if that's a
cairo or a pango bug. murrine is just requesting
just thing not thingcomunque (middle click pasting) :)

IIRC, when I tried using an image surface, the quality was poor... that's why I
was using this.
whatever is cairo_stroke or the layout path, the problem seems to be in the
second one, cause if I user show_layout instead layout_path + stroke is fast
again. (but it exposes the bug of rendering

If you notice, text in Lucid's Ambiance (and dust too) looks blurred. That's
because you're using a color brighter than the bg (and the inset is still
brighter than the bg).
For lighting/shadowing aspects, if we go with a brighter color, then we
should have a darker inset at the top of the text
I don't think I have control over network manager, it looks like it's using
something customized (in other words, it sents the color statically in the
source code of the applet)

Don't think it will worth backporting patch to gtk+2.0, cause it won't be a
backport but a new patch, due to the way of how GtkStyleContext is different

Currently it's possible to specify a full font name, something like Ubuntu
Bold 8, but not relative. So we could have inconsistence both for the font
name and the font dimension the user could set.
In order to change that, a core change in Gtk+ is required.
That will come for upstream Gtk+ 3.2,

Gtk+ is not using (and will not) cairo-gl. Cairo won't use GL (it will be much
slower using opengl).
Please test if the bug is in the graphic driver or not. I'm not against
patching murrine if the bug is in murrine, but if the bug is in cairo and/or
the graphics driver I don't know why I should

It's a guess it's using text[SELECTED] instead text[ACTIVE], because
judging from the color used for the grey box, the grey box is using
base[ACTIVE] (text[ACTIVE] is nearly black in light-themes, see
rhythmbox for example)

This explicitly sets all states to SELECTED, even if they are ACTIVE. Of course
this behaviour doesn't seem correct to me.
This bug was already fixed in murrine 13 days ago, just wait for the
updated package gtk2-engines-murrine which should land in maverick soon.

I can fix the disabled menus (forgot to fix them), but to be honest I find the
disabled menuitems enough contrasted. They are disabled, not enabled, they
should be readable while keeping the attention to the enabled ones. Let's see
what other designers think.
