I was using Consolas 8 in xchat-gnome, and other apps that use a fixed width font. gnome-terminal, which I use regularly with Consolas 8, does not exhibit this problem - ever, even when using irssi (another irc application). Pidgin does not use the fixed width font, so I don't see this issue. I
