I downloaded the xubuntu 8.04 desktop install CD here:

I burned it on a CD-RW using Xfburn under a gentoo linux installation. The CD
booted correctly. The integrity test of the
I just tested with the xubuntu 8.10 desktop CD, and its exactly the same
problem!
I can't believe no one ever tried to install xubuntu before me from these cds,
so the bug might be due to a bad interaction with my computer.

I finally tried the alternate xubuntu 8.04.1 amd64 cd, and this time the
installation went well.

I was trying to compile a program that depends on the atlas libraries. The
configure phase goes well, but the compilation phase crashes with the following
error:
