[Bug 2061364] Re: Remote login missing user list

2024-04-15 Thread Neil Bryan
NEW Remote Login - Ubuntu 24.04 LTS Noble Numbat (development branch) -
Log in to blank desktop with almost no functionality

Remote logged on using Remmina RDP to the 24.04 Desktop Remote Logon
and:

Mouse works, kind of.

I can click on and open the calendar.

Open and toggle Accessibility settings.

Open the System Tray (pictured) and:

Power Off/Log off, disconnect the network, toggle Dark Style (no
effect), adjust Volume, and Power Mode has zero effect.

Note that Remote Desktop Control for the logged in desktop works on port 3390,
as it has in previous releases of Ubuntu on port 3389.

If there's any logs or reports I can muster from this machine to help
the devs with this issue, please point me to info on how I can retrieve
them to post here, which I'll gladly attempt.

[Bug 1954970] Re: remmina "Cannot connect to the RDP server ... via TLS. Check that the client and server support a common TLS version"

2022-05-18 Thread Bryan Cebuliak
The 2.6.1+dfsg1-3ubuntu2 libfreerdp2-2 found on jammy-updates fixes the RD
gateway access issue for me too. Thanks, I can use Remmina again. A bit
disconcerting that Remmina seems to be the only GUI option for this task. Much
depends on it working. Shocking that the bug made it all the way to 22.04 LTS
release. Happy for the fix!

[Bug 1960579] [NEW] PL2303 Driver Bug in 5.13 Kernel

2022-02-10 Thread Bryan Bourn
Public bug reported:

Looks like 5.13.0 kernel broke something in the USB-serial PL2303 driver
module. I have a Sky-Watcher EQ6-R Pro telescope mount with a PL23D3
USB-serial chip (I think). My MSECORE mini PC running Ubuntu 20.04.3
has been working with this mount for the last couple of years with the
5.11 kernel. Now with the 5.13 kernel, the pl2303 module doesn't
recognize the USB-serial device. I revert back to the 5.11 kernel and
it works fine again. Here's the snippets from dmesg:

5.13.0-28-generic kernel:

Apologies if I missed this, but did anyone report this to Nvidia?
Either via https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/44
/~/where-can-i-get-support-for-linux-drivers%3F or their forum here:
https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/c/gpu-unix-graphics/linux/148

Likely more helpful to use forum so others can follow.

[Bug 1915502] Re: "systemd --user" fails to start for non-local users

2021-04-29 Thread Bryan Youse
We are seeing the same issue with essentially the same setup (NIS for
accounts with nsswitch in compat mode, Kerberos for authentication).

We see the same pam_systemd debug message when attempting to log in as
regular/remote user:
pam_systemd(sshd:session): Failed to create session: No such process

Naturally loginctl doesn't report the session. No /run/user/$UID
directory gets created, and additionally, trying to run "systemctl
--user" spits out: Trying to run as user instance, but $XDG_RUNTIME_DIR
is not set. After manually setting this variable, we see the familiar
"Failed to connect to bus: No such file or directory"

Strangely, this problem is not present on some of our slightly older
20.04 VMs in the fleet. The working VMs are using systemd version
245.4-4ubuntu3.2

We noticed this behavior yesterday on 245.4-4ubuntu3.4, and the problem
persists having upgraded to 245.4-4ubuntu3.6. This definitely looks
like a regression, but I'm not sure which package is at fault or how to
debug/pinpoint further.

[Bug 1921939] Re: Create Upstream Repo

2021-04-28 Thread Bryan Quigley
The Ubuntu version appears to have diverged in multiple ways AFAICT.

Just installing
It depends on UbuntuDrivers - which has other Ubuntu specific dependencies
(x-kit).

Building:
dh-translations appears to be Ubuntu specific again.

The debian package installs fine in Ubuntu. I'd be happy to create a new
"neutral" upstream on Github based on the debian version if @juliank would be
ok pulling from it for Debian. Eventually Ubuntu could rebase to that to.

Does that makes sense?

[Bug 1921939] [NEW] Create Upstream Repo

2021-03-30 Thread Bryan Quigley
Public bug reported:

I started investigating this due to software-properties in Debian being
listed as under-maintained per https://mako.cc/copyrighteous
/identifying-underproduced-software

AFAICT the source of truth for this package is in the current Ubuntu
packages. Would it be possible to make a real upstream repo that both
Debian and Ubuntu can eventually pull from?

Today, the Debian package has no updates for a while and I get that many
of the additions are for Livepatch/other ubuntu specific things. If it's
better for software-properties in Debian to just become it's own thing,
that's a path too.

Does this happen often? Do you have a step by step way to reproduce?

(I'm on Debian bullseye - testing and reinstalled synaptic without
issues.)

2021-02-17 Thread Bryan Seitz
Public bug reported:

Neither the Focal, Groovy, or Hirsute ipmitool DSC builds on Ubuntu
20.04.

I have tried with the 5.4 kernel headers and the 5.8 kernel headers. I
have attached the build log. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

[Bug 1906600] Re: WiFi disconnects continually (goes "down" in NetworkManager)

2021-01-08 Thread Bryan J Smalley
Hello all! I wanted to come back in to report that today I took an
automatic update and this issue appears to be resolved. I've had the
machine up for about seven hours and have maintained a wireless
connection the entire time. I am running kernel 5.4.0-60-generic after
the update. So, I am going to try to close this issue. If I am not
able (permitted) to do so, please feel free to close it as resolved.
Thank you all very much for the responses, troubleshooting, and all
around support.

Cheers!

2020-12-31 Thread Bryan J Smalley
Hello Feng Kai-Heng. I'm sorry, but I do not know what the last kernel
version was running before the problem began. I never gave it a
thought. After looking at it, I would imagine it was 5.4.0-54.60 but
that could be wrong. Should I attempt to install that older version?
Just in case it is useful I will post the full list of Kernels on the

[Bug 1883370] Re: system-config-printer hangs when trying to change driver

2020-12-20 Thread Bryan Walsh
I was able to change the driver directly through gnome-control-center dialog vs
the system-control-printer dialog. Not sure if you have this option under
Linux Mint or not, but this is what I did:
Open gnome control center, go to printers and select the printer of interest,
click the gear icon and click on "Printer Details".

[Bug 1906600] Re: WiFi disconnects continually (goes "down" in NetworkManager)

2020-12-15 Thread Bryan J Smalley
If I have done this correctly, and that is truly questionable, I just
installed one of the generic kernels from https://kernel.ubuntu.com
/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.10-rc6/amd64/ then restarted the PC and was
connected for 8 - 10 minutes, but then the connection dropped again. I
had installed: linux-
modules-5.10.0-051000rc6-generic_5.10.0-051000rc6.202011291930_amd64.deb.
Here is what it shows I am running:

bryan@bryan-HP-Notebook:~$ uname -r
5.4.0-58-generic

I will run the apport again to upload immediately after posting this message.
As always, I thank you for your help. Cheers!

** Description changed:

Hello everybody and thank you in advance for your help. After a recent
update, my machine rebooted and appeared to be fine, but after a short
time the WiFi dropped and the NetworkManager applet shows that the
interface is down. I am also getting prompted for a password (which was
previously saved) and when I click on connect it will establish the
connection for a short time, but then goes down again. In some cases
this is immediate in others, I will be online for up to approximately 15
minutes before it goes down again. I have tried restarting
NetworkManager, but I get the same results (short time up, then down).
I tried to review log data, but I am not a linux expert and so I'm not
sure that I am looking at the right log, nor do I know exactly what to
look for. Here are some lines from around the time of the disconnect
  and the restarting of NetworkManager:

I think I was supposed to mark each item in the affects column as
confirmed, but I neglected to do that on 'linux (ubuntu)'. I've now
marked that as confirmed as well. Apologies if this was not what I was
supposed to do. Thanks again to all!

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1906600/+attachment/5441062/+files/nmcli-dev.txt

** Changed in: ubuntu-mate
   Status: New => Confirmed

[Bug 1906600] Re: WiFi disconnects continually (goes "down" in NetworkManager)

2020-12-04 Thread Bryan J Smalley
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected focal
