kdenlive new package version 0.7.3-0ubuntu2 is in the repos and solves
the crash on startup, at least on my computer...
someone else can confirm it? and then this bug will be closed.

Try to clean all references of kdenlive in the .kde hidden directory of your
Home directory.
and if you are working with Gnome desktop you can clean the entire .kde
directory, all needed files will be recreated after the next application start.

I just updated to 0.7.3-0ubuntu2 and i still get the message on startup
error, couldn't find SDL module from MLT, Kdenlive will not start untill you
fix this (this is basically what it says, i did a quick translation from the

I think about one thing,
try to create a new user on your system, to have a clean home directory.
Log in this new session and launch kdenlive to see if it works ...
if it does work you have a configuration problem on your first session
if it does not there is a kubuntu specific problem to

to reproduce this bug :
1- a fresh and clean install of ubuntu jaunty (I work with 64bits arch, don't
know if it matters here)
2- sudo apt-get install kdenlive frei0r-plugins
it is important to install both at the same time, if you install frei0r
after kdenlive first

Hello everyone, a new upstream version of kdenlive has been released
this day : version 0.7.3, many bug fixes including the save bug using
kdenlive against Qt 4.5. Is this can be merged into Jaunty or it's too

Confirming this bug. Kdenlive is unusable in production, anything can be saved.
It is a major Bug.
Compiling lastest svn (rev.3186) solves this issue.
