I have a Thinkpad T520 with Nvidia NVS 4200M, using proprietary drivers.
It also freezes whenever brightness is turned up/down. Disabling VT-d
fixes the crashes when trying to turn up/down brightness but disables
brightness (adjusting brightness does not work).

But installing foomatic-db doesn't show any effect.

Just as an update: if I have the laptop plugged in when I turn it on,
the first time it comes to the login window the keyboard and mouse will

I am using Compiz (version 1:0.7.4-0ubuntu7) as the window manager.

I found a temporary workaround: checking Show desktop menu on right
click under the Behavior tab.
However, if left unchecked, the wallpaper will disappear when I right
click on the desktop.

I am experiencing this same issue on Ubuntu 8.04.1. I have enabled
Place Windows. Under the General tab, Workarounds is enabled, and
Placement Mode is set to Smart. Then under the Fixed Window
Placement tab, I added an entry for class=Firefox, x and y both
set to 200. Whenever I launch Firefox,

That was one of the reasons I forgot to mention as not allowing for a
conversion. If you don't need more space on that recovery partition, you could
shrink it using the partition editor in the livecd, and using that space for

office pop-up window, and then it simply quits (nothing else comes
