I turned on external PPA because it wasn't working. The problem is simple,
image is broken until Xorg is loaded (either by choosing Xorg in GDM, or
disabling Wayland for GDM). Xorg does something that fixes the picture in
Wayland (and thus in GDM if GDM is running with Wayland enabled).

Tried unplugging camera, problems are gone. Cheese is starting instantly (with

The discussion here is getting cluttered and messy - we have many
different situations which may or may not work which makes it hard to
finally solve this one.
So far we have
- People which solve only with config changes
- People which get it to work which downgrading / maybe relinking

So I tried to verify the upgrade consequences - I cloned my physical
server into a VM and made the distribution upgrade from Oneiric to
Precise.
First let me state (and this has nothing to do with this bug *g), that

Okay, I left the Edgy live-CD running for some 20 hours straight: I played with
most applications, and I left it overnight running IO intensive tasks on the
console. And guess what: it never panicked. Also, two nights ago I left
system running memcheck overnight, and there were no errors
Could the problem be GCC related? I noticed that Feisty/Gutsy used a
different version than Edgy.
