[Bug 1870259] [NEW] firefox fullscreen display glitches with hidpi scalingb

2020-04-01 Thread David Britton
Public bug reported:

When I go on fullscreen on a video on Firefox with HIDPI scaling factors
more than 100%, I get odd behavior of the fullscreen video. This
behavior is not seen on Chrome, or if the scaling factor is 100%.

Basically, it seems like there is some resizing of the video to a
smaller window in the upper left, and when I escape fullscreen,
sometimes the firefox window itself is scaled off the display.

At times, this glitches a few times and eventually resets, sometimes, it
stays this way. It appears to have changed behavior multiple times over
the past few weeks of updates of various parts of the stack, and may
just be narrowed down for me now to something repeatable. For instance
sometimes I could not trigger it until I pressed volume up or volume
down. Now it appears to happen just waiting for a few seconds on the
running video.

This is on X11, and on focal with the latest updates as of today
2020-04-01.

Happy to debug more, not sure what information is useful.

thanks!

Appears this works around it on up to date focal:

  LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpython3.8.so weechat

I'm guessing something messed up in the linking of the python.so that
ships with weechat-python

Thanks oded-geek, did you happen to see a commit that might be
responsible for more stability there, or was it just on a hunch that you
tried out the mainline kernel?

[Bug 1861395] Re: system hang: i915 Resetting rcs0 for hang on rcs0

2020-02-12 Thread David Britton
I think I hit the problem again, ran apport-collect on the kernel in
proposed:

Linux aries 5.4.0-14-generic #17-Ubuntu SMP Thu Feb 6 22:47:59 UTC 2020
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

ii  linux-generic  5.4.0.14.17
  amd64Complete Generic Linux kernel and headers

:( What else can I try? I'm kind of assuming after talking to the
kernel team that this kernel from the proposed PPA has the fix, it might
not.  Would love to verify

[Bug 1851749] Re: Frequently getting thermal warnings and cpu throttling messages in syslog

2019-11-08 Thread David Britton
Glad to see this filed, I have the same issue. Note there is a good
discussion of the issue here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/870u0a/t480s_linux_throttling_bug/

And the User made a github repo to address the problem in testing:

https://github.com/erpalma/throttled

I can clearly see the effect of the change using s-tui and monitoring
cpu freq. Before the change, the throttle will limit me to around
1.5-1.7 GHZ under load, after the change, it's at 2.7GHZ consistent
without the constant throttle messages in syslog/journalctl. I don't
have enough depth in this area to understand the technical tradeoffs,
but I did want to point out the research that I have used thus far.

Restarting network-manager.service fixes the issue reliably. I'm going
to see if there is more in the log there to determine what is failing.

[Bug 1828134] Re: Wifi not working after suspend/resume cycle

2019-05-09 Thread David Britton
Hi Andrea --

1) No D state processes
2) interestingly, `iwlist wlp4s0 scan` shows data like usual
3) rfkill shows everything off

I'm going to read up on how to connect to networks from iwconfig and see
if that helps me at all. I'm attaching a debug.txt file with a bunch of
the output you asked for.

[Bug 1828134] Re: Wifi not working after suspend/resume cycle

2019-05-08 Thread David Britton
Hi Andrea -- Thanks for the suggestion.

I attempted this and it seems to not help. The first suspend/resume
worked, and I was hopeful, but after 4 more attempts (obviously I have
reboots in between each failed attempt), it didn't prove to be a solid
option.

FYI, so far the comment I made in #3 still holds true

Also note, the following sequence seems to avoid the problem so far (4/4
in testing, not conclusive, but it's looking good):

```
dpb@aries:~[]$ sudo modprobe -r iwlmvm
# Suspend/Resume, then...
dpb@aries:~[]$ sudo modprobe iwlmvm
```

[Bug 1828134] [NEW] Wifi not working after suspend/resume cycle

2019-05-07 Thread David Britton
Public bug reported:

About 75% of the time for the past few weeks (I don't have a time where
this started), my wifi is not working after resume from suspend. I'm
happy to provide more debugging info if needed.

I have tried an rmmod/modprobe on on the iwlwifi,iwlmvm modules just to
see after the resume, and didn't re-enable the card.

The symptoms are, the wlp4so interface is DOWN, I can't bring it up.
gnome-network-manager widget turning the interface off/on doesn't work.
I don't see anything glaring in dmesg.

[Bug 1825239] Re: Enable support for trusty ESM

2019-04-18 Thread David Britton
All working here. Direct download of: ubuntu-advantage-
tools_10ubuntu0.14.04.3_all.deb

Package installs, upgrades ubuntu-advantage-tools, enables ESM with
credentials from the canonical support dashboard, then I ran 'ubuntu-
advantage disable-esm`, and the apt source was removed from the listing.
I installed ansible from the trusty-security pocket, and it upgraded
correctly.

Verified Success on new LXD ubuntu-daily:trusty.

[Bug 1651497] Re: iscsid.service fails to start in container, results in failed dist-upgrade later on

2018-09-04 Thread David Britton
I also cannot repro this failure. I can trigger the upgrade, and use a
script similar to what smoser had, but each time, the upgrade works
fine. I went through 250 iterations of the script without failure.

Could someone please attach a reproducer, or give access to a live
system that has just shown the failure?

[Bug 1779297] Re: modifying landscape client configuration not updating on landscape interface

2018-06-29 Thread David Britton
Hi Faika -- thanks for the bug report. This is expected behavior. Once
registered, a client cannot change tags from the client side, and re-
registering will potentially create a duplicate computer. There are a
few options:

1) You do have the choice upon re-registering to accept the computer in
place of an existing computer by clicking on the computer name in the
'pending computers' screen.

2) you can change tags on the server side, either through the UI, or the
API [1].

[Bug 1433761] Re: apt-key and add-apt-repository don't honor Acquire::http::Proxy

2018-06-20 Thread David Britton
@miskokot

Probably best to open this up in a new bug report if you think there is
an error. However, I can at least confirm that having http_proxy and
https_proxy set does yield connections to my proxy with apt-add-
repository

root@bionic:~# http_proxy=http://10.5.0.5:8000
https_proxy=http://10.5.0.5:8000 apt-add-repository ppa:canonical-
kernel-team/ppa

Notice, that your example has you doing an 'echo $http...' to prove that things
are set, however that doesn't show if the variable is exported (available to
suprocesses).

[Bug 1670291] Re: Landscape: Upgrade 14.04.5 to 16.04.2 fails unable to reboot

For landscape, we will try systemctl reboot, and systemctl -f reboot,
this warning in the manpage:

Warning: specifying --force twice with any of these operations might result

Thanks Gunnar for the correction, and the suggestion on the
reconsideration.

Triaging low, and marking won't fix for now. There is currently no
blacklist mechanism, and I think keeping everything in the archive --
warts and all -- is the right approach.

[Bug 1763182] [NEW] remove landscape-common from minimal image

2018-04-11 Thread David Britton
Public bug reported:

The stated goal of minimal image is to strip out packages useful only to
humans so that a smaller base can be used to build smaller applications
running in clouds and in containers.

To this end, please remove landscape-common as it pulls in a few python3
deps, and its goal is only to provide an entry in the dynamic MOTD that
shows system statistics (disk usage, memory usage, etc) that a human
would look at when logging in interactively.
