[Bug 578585] Re: gnome panel conflict: Unity keeps reloading on my system and get white background...
I can confirm this behaviour on a Samsung NC10. Deleting ~/.config/gnome-session/saved-session has an effect, the same flashing background occurs but the Ubuntu log in sound plays before entering the cycle. Running mutter --replace, all is well but if I then run unity, or issue Running mutter --mutter-plugins=/usr/lib/mutter/plugins/libunity- mutter.so.0 --replace I get: (unity:4943): Gdk-WARNING **: /build/buildd/gtk+2.0-2.20.1/gdk/x11/gdkdrawable-x11.c:942 drawable is not a native X11 window The program 'unity' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)'. (Details: serial 516 error_code 3 request_code 20 minor_code 0) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. With respect, this is splitting hairs. Bash is GNU but the way it is accessed mightn't be a GNU program at all. I don't think its necessary to explain the kernel at all in the basic commands section - perhaps a reference in the introduction section (which I _think_ there already is), illustrating that there is a difference between the terms but that the term Linux is used meaning the whole package. [Bug 341377] Re: Confusing on the kernel Linux and whole system GNU/Linux in basic-commands
The word has come to mean the entire operating system and associated packages in much the same way as Hoover has come to mean vacuum cleaner or Coke has come to mean cola. The use of the term Ubuntu in this context is inappropriate as it conveys that Linux is Ubuntu, which is no more correct than any of the other terms. Moreover, even the Linux Home Page describes it as: Linux is a free Unix-type operating system originally created by Linus Torvalds with the assistance of developers around the world. Wikipedia as: Linux (commonly pronounced IPA: /ˈlɪnəks/ in English; variants exist[1]) is a generic term referring to Unix-like computer operating systems based on the Linux kernel. I think this conveys the correct spirit and although there is a difference in so far as GNU/Linux is GNU tools combined with the Linux kernel, very few people see this differentiation and in the absence of a suitable word to express the concept of the system as a whole, frankly I don't see the need. -- Confusing on the kernel Linux and whole system GNU/Linux in basic-commands https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/341377 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 336629] Re: Package names should be in small letters
Hi - I've checked the link, which works in the current trunk. Sun lists the package as NetBeans, I'm not sure I follow why it needs to be referred to as netbeans? -- Package names should be in small letters https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/336629 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 336629] Re: Package names should be in small letters
I understand but the link now uses apt-url rather than the user typing in a command, so the program name would seem more appropriate in this instance. The user needn't look in Synaptic in this instance. -- Package names should be in small letters https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/336629 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 335279] Re: 'Logout' and 'Standby' described wrongly
It was moved in one of the 8.10 updates. I'll patch it again tonight. ** Changed in: ubuntu-docs (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) = Dougie Richardson (dougierichardson) -- 'Logout' and 'Standby' described wrongly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/335279 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 335279] Re: 'Logout' and 'Standby' described wrongly
Patched the Gnome entities to reflect change in menu structure - now has logout; and shutdown; in reference to the two new menu entries. ** Changed in: ubuntu-docs (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Fix Committed -- 'Logout' and 'Standby' described wrongly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/335279 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 243797] Re: Networking troubleshooting docs refer to non-existent menu entry
This has now been completed, as far as bugs go. It would have been nice to have incorporated more information on DSL, Modems and Broadband Wifi but I haven't any of these to test with. Matthew, I'd say I was happy for this to be changed in Hardy to the current version in Jaunty - do you want me to patch it in the Hardy trunk and push again? -- Networking troubleshooting docs refer to non-existent menu entry https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/243797 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 321308] Re: Wrong menu path for Networkmanager
New version of Internet documentation for Jaunty addresses references to gnome-network-tools and uses nm instead. ** Changed in: ubuntu-docs (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Fix Committed -- Wrong menu path for Networkmanager https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/321308 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 275592] Re: awkward punctuation in about ubuntu docs
Removed references to pronunciation, also addresses Bug #288574. ** Changed in: ubuntu-docs (Ubuntu) Status: New = Fix Committed -- awkward punctuation in about ubuntu docs https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/275592 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
