[Bug 1903838] Re: package libcrypt1 1:4.4.10-10ubuntu4 failed to install/upgrade: rm command for cleanup subprocess returned error exit status 127
This issue occured again today when upgrading another server from 18.04 to 20.04 here is a snippet and i'll try to guess what may be happening == Stopping some services possibly affected by the upgrade (will be restarted later): cron: stopping...done. We also had a systemd unit running swatch on some log files which runs with perl which was not stopped like cron did , could this also cause perl to fail ? [Bug 1756840] Re: Buggy, under-maintained, not fit for main anymore; alternatives exist
Just a quick update on my end. This also addresses @Xavier Gnata's question here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ecryptfs- utils/+bug/1756840/comments/3 > Ok but what am I supposed to do on a dual boot machine?? I'm writing this all from memory. I did this a long time ago. My solution is as follows on a Dual Boot machine. Assume you have Windows on the machine. 1. Use Windows disk tools to make some space for Linux--ex: 120 GB of a 500 GB drive. 2. Fully encrypt Windows with Veracrypt. It is awesome and can do full partition encryption for your Windows partition, even while Windows is running! This might help: https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/6169/use-truecrypt-to-secure-your-data/. 2. Install Ubuntu 20.04 with LUKS volume encryption. You have to choose the "do something else" option when installing, and then you have to *manually* make an encrypted LUKS container. Inside that, you then install Ubuntu. Done! Now, when I boot, I get the Linux grub bootloader thing. If I choose Windows, I have to unlock the disk via a VeraCrypt unlock screen that pops up *before* Windows can even begin to boot. If I choose Ubuntu, it's similar: I have to decrypt the LUKS encryption on the screen that pops up *before* Ubuntu even begins to boot. Works great. No more need for ecryptfs anymore in my particular case. Note that on the Ubuntu option, I also make a big swapfile, as I describe here: https://askubuntu.com/questions/927854/how-do-i-increase- the-size-of-swapfile-without-removing-it-in-the- terminal/1177620#1177620. This is in place of a swap *partition*. The swapfile has the advantage of being *within* the LUKS-encrypted volume, so it gets encrypted too. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1756840 Title: Buggy, under-maintained, not fit for main anymore; alternatives exist To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ecryptfs-utils/+bug/1756840/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 1953252] Re: Since last three upgrades, by laptop drains the battery when sleeping, even a new one.
Hi, I think we misunderstood each other, I understand the upgrade tool has nothing to do with sleep, and I understand that the laptop should be plugged in when upgrading (I always do this). What I am saying that the sleep is broken for me by all practical measures since upgrading to 20.10 and above, because the battery (even a new one) drains very fast (2 or 3 days) whereas before it would last at least between one and two weeks. So this is a regression/bug. I hope this is more clear. Thank! [Bug 1953252] [NEW] Since last three upgrades, by laptop drains the battery when sleeping, even a new one.
Public bug reported: Hi, Since the last 3 upgrades (20.10, 21.04, 21.10, was working fine with 20.04) when my laptop is in sleep mode the battery is drained very fast. I originally thought that maybe my battery was getting old, so I purchased a new one (over $150...) but the issue remained. I tried upgrading to 21.04 but the issue remained, then I upgraded to 21.10 and the issue remains. This makes the sleep move virtually useless, to give you an idea, I left for a 3 day trip and the battery went flat, even though it was fully charged before I left. Before it would last much longer (I cannot say how much but at least a week or two). What has changed that causes this drainage? I have a Lenovo W530 laptop. [Bug 1948666] [NEW] Misleading behavior when enabling hardware offloads
Public bug reported: According to the documentation(1) the following setting: ovs-vsctl set Open_vSwitch . other_config:hw-offload=true|false/unset should have effects only after vswitchd is restarted. However, flipping the value on will have the following effect: Hardware offloads will be enabled for newly created ports, but not on the ports prior enabling the TC offloads. If hw-offload got enabled, qdisc configured, hw-offload disabled --> ovs restarted. This sequence might not delete the qdisc, and vswitchd on restart might not touch existing ones. As a side effect you will have to delete them manually. [Bug 1915480] Re: DeviceManager's fill_dhcp_udp_checksums assumes IPv6 available
** Description changed: The following code in DeviceManager's fill_dhcp_udp_checksums assumes IPv6 is always enabled: iptables_mgr = iptables_manager.IptablesManager(use_ipv6=True, namespace=namespace) When iptables_mgr.apply() is later called, an attempt to add the UDP checksum rule for DHCP is done via iptables-save/iptables-restore and if IPv6 has been disabled on a hypervisor (eg, by setting `ipv6.disable=1` on the kernel command line) then an many-line error occurs in the DHCP agent logfile. There should be a way of telling the agent that IPv6 is disabled and as such, it should ignore trying to set up the UDP checksum rule for IPv6. [Bug 357732] Re: cups always prints with the default page size
Having kind of this issue on my Ubuntu Xenial (16.04) with Brother MFC Laser-Printer. The printer worked fine on the same system for over 1 year and suddenly every(!) custom settings from GUI printing dialog was ignored. I need papersize A4 but always got letter format. The only workaround I found was to set A4 hard-coded in default PPA file. But since today I can't switch dublex-printing or switch from color-printing (default) to black and white! Very annoying and I don't know what may have changed between once working and stopped ignoring my custom printing settings for a new printing-job. In my case there already is '/usr/lib/cups/filter/pstopdf'. Reinstalling the packages 'cups-filters cups-filters-core-drivers' didn't help. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/357732 Title: cups always prints with the default page size To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gs-gpl/+bug/357732/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: Dear Maintainer, Version 1.7.10-1.1 is the most recent version on focal. The last release included a patch for CVE-2019-11835 (issue #338 on upstream). However, this patch introduced a bug in the patched function cJSON_Minify (issue #354 on upstream). There is a (potential) infinite loop in the relevant function. The issue has been fixed in commit 08d2bc766a82cd75764d036f9efef444590d1cf9 The fix is included in newer releases, so it is included on ubuntu groovy and newer. I request to patch this issue on focal. The fix is very small (only two lines of code). The same issue arised on debian buster and the patch was applied (see https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=973442 ) Thanks for your help. ** Affects: cjson (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1934643 Title: infinite loop in patched cJSON_Minify function To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cjson/+bug/1934643/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1819543] Re: Does not exit correctly, have to "kill -9
Affects me on Kubuntu 20.04 in multiple machines. If I close the app via the "X" button AND it is playing some media file it gets stuck and I need to give a "killall -9 vlc" command. It closes just fine if I stop the media before closing with the "X" button. If I quit the app with CTRL+Q or with the close command in the "media" menu it exits just fine even if media is playing. [Bug 1895486] Re: [media-keys] Fn media keys with lag slow/delay on Gnome with "Scroll Lock" keyboards
I'm having the same problem with both Ubuntu 18.04 and 20.04. Commenting the line modifier_map Mod3 { Scroll_Lock }; does help but it does not solve it. My system does not freeze anymore but CPU usage still goes unusually up. In addition, setting the brightness with the mouse by clicking and dragging on the top bar makes the brightness icon lag and causes the same odd CPU behavior.
