So, I'm going to uninstall the repo version of EasyEffects (and calf-
plugins).

For now I'm going to use the Flatpak Flathub version of EasyEffects
instead.

EasyEffects (PulseEffects replacement for Pipewire) has a dependency on
calf-plugins.

At the moment is impossible to remove calf-plugins without removing
EasyEffects too.

Facing this annoying issue on Ubuntu 23.10. Well I know it's "bad boy"
to use Non-LTS, but I had to do for another software/upgrade only
available when 23.04 wasn't released yet :-(

Any news on this? On 22.04 I had before the Upgrade (to 23.10) I didn't
have this annoying problem!

Yep, this affects all versions. FWIW, the ddebs repository seems to break
like this every 1-2 years and after reporting it, it's usually cleaned up
in a week or two.

listed in http://ddebs.ubuntu.com/dists/bionic-updates/Release do not
match the files (e.g. http://ddebs.ubuntu.com/dists/bionic-

specify a package and I didn't know any other way to file the bug.

[Bug 1903838] Re: package libcrypt1 1:4.4.10-10ubuntu4 failed to install/upgrade: rm command for cleanup subprocess returned error exit status 127

2022-05-20 Thread Gabriel Tzagkarakis
I was able to reproduce this issue. The problem occurs when safe-rm is
installed.

How to reproduce using lxc:

lxc launch images:ubuntu/18.04 bughunt
lxc exec bughunt bash

once you're inside the container run:

apt install ubuntu-release-upgrader-core safe-rm
do-release-upgrade

answer yes so that the upgrade initiates

when the upgrader reaches "Unpacking libc6:amd64 (2.31-0ubuntu9.9)" it fails
with
===
/usr/bin/perl: error while loading shared libraries: libcrypt.so.1: cannot open
shared object file: No such file or directory
dpkg: error while cleaning up:
rm command for cleanup subprocess returned error exit status 127
/usr/bin/perl: error while loading shared libraries: libcrypt.so.1: cannot open

dpkg: error processing archive

it appears that a quick workaround is to uninstall safe-rm before
upgrading and reinstall afterwards

thank you

This issue occured again today when upgrading another server from 18.04
to 20.04

here is a snippet and i'll try to guess what may be happening

==
Stopping some services possibly affected by the upgrade (will be restarted

===

We had i386 architecture installed on this server due to an old 32bit
program, could this be caused by the upgrade of the 32bit version of
libcrypt1 ?

We also had a systemd unit running swatch on some log files which runs
with perl which was not stopped like cron did , could this also cause
perl to fail ?

My last guess would be if that safe-rm is installed somehow doesn't
return correctly and should be removed before the upgrade

I hope my observations helps you solve this issue

[Bug 1939390] Re: Missing dependency: lsscsi

2022-02-22 Thread Gabriel Samfira
> Did it block any operation by missing the nvme command? It looks like
it's in a critical path for NVMe-oF usecase, but it generates a warning
instead of an error when it's not found.

No. It was just a warning when using a Dell Unity all flash storage
appliance. However, it does seem like it would be a good idea to add
that package as well.

[Bug 1939390] Re: Missing dependency: lsscsi

I *think* we also had this problem on systems that had NVMe volumes. The
nvme-cli package is not pulled in, even though it is used by os-brick:

brick/blob/master/os_brick/initiator/connectors/nvmeof.py#L155

[Bug 1756840] Re: Buggy, under-maintained, not fit for main anymore; alternatives exist

2021-12-08 Thread Gabriel Staples
Just a quick update on my end. This also addresses @Xavier Gnata's
question here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ecryptfs-
utils/+bug/1756840/comments/3

> Ok but what am I supposed to do on a dual boot machine??

I'm writing this all from memory. I did this a long time ago.

My solution is as follows on a Dual Boot machine.

Assume you have Windows on the machine.

1. Use Windows disk tools to make some space for Linux--ex: 120 GB of a 500 GB
drive.
2. Fully encrypt Windows with Veracrypt. It is awesome and can do full
partition encryption for your Windows partition, even while Windows is running!
This might help:
https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/6169/use-truecrypt-to-secure-your-data/.
2. Install Ubuntu 20.04 with LUKS volume encryption. You have to choose the "do
something else" option when installing, and then you have to *manually* make an
encrypted LUKS container. Inside that, you then install Ubuntu.

Done!

Now, when I boot, I get the Linux grub bootloader thing. If I choose
Windows, I have to unlock the disk via a VeraCrypt unlock screen that
pops up *before* Windows can even begin to boot. If I choose Ubuntu,
it's similar: I have to decrypt the LUKS encryption on the screen that
pops up *before* Ubuntu even begins to boot.

Works great. No more need for ecryptfs anymore in my particular case.

Note that on the Ubuntu option, I also make a big swapfile, as I
describe here: https://askubuntu.com/questions/927854/how-do-i-increase-
the-size-of-swapfile-without-removing-it-in-the-
terminal/1177620#1177620.

This is in place of a swap *partition*. The swapfile has the advantage
of being *within* the LUKS-encrypted volume, so it gets encrypted too.

Re: [Bug 1953252] Re: Since last three upgrades, by laptop drains the battery when sleeping, even a new one.

2021-12-06 Thread Gabriel
Hi,

I think we misunderstood each other, I understand the upgrade tool has
nothing to do with sleep, and I understand that the laptop should be
plugged in when upgrading (I always do this).

What I am saying that the sleep is broken for me by all practical measures
since upgrading to 20.10 and above, because the battery (even a new one)
drains very fast (2 or 3 days) whereas before it would last at least
between one and two weeks. So this is a regression/bug.

I hope this is more clear.

Thank!

[Bug 1953252] [NEW] Since last three upgrades, by laptop drains the battery when sleeping, even a new one.

2021-12-05 Thread Gabriel
Public bug reported:

Hi,

Since the last 3 upgrades (20.10, 21.04, 21.10, was working fine with
20.04) when my laptop is in sleep mode the battery is drained very fast.
I originally thought that maybe my battery was getting old, so I
purchased a new one (over $150...) but the issue remained. I tried
upgrading to 21.04 but the issue remained, then I upgraded to 21.10 and
the issue remains. This makes the sleep move virtually useless, to give
you an idea, I left for a 3 day trip and the battery went flat, even
though it was fully charged before I left. Before it would last much
longer (I cannot say how much but at least a week or two).

What has changed that causes this drainage?

I have a Lenovo W530 laptop.

Thanks,
Gabriel

[Bug 1929650] Re: Screen doesn't turn off when using Wayland on some devices

2021-11-02 Thread Gabriel Ionescu
In my case, adding MUTTER_DEBUG_ENABLE_ATOMIC_KMS=0 to /etc/environment
worked. After reboot, the screen turns off and stays off. I will do
further testing if this has some side effects.

[Bug 1948666] [NEW] Misleading behavior when enabling hardware offloads

2021-10-25 Thread Alin-Gabriel Serdean
Public bug reported:

According to the documentation(1) the following setting:
ovs-vsctl set Open_vSwitch . other_config:hw-offload=true|false/unset
should have effects only after vswitchd is restarted.

However, flipping the value on will have the following effect:
Hardware offloads will be enabled for newly created ports,
but not on the ports prior enabling the TC offloads.

If hw-offload got enabled, qdisc configured, hw-offload disabled --> ovs
restarted.
This sequence might not delete the qdisc, and vswitchd on restart might not
touch existing ones.
As a side effect you will have to delete them manually.

[Bug 1915480] Re: DeviceManager's fill_dhcp_udp_checksums assumes IPv6 available

2021-09-21 Thread Alin-Gabriel Serdean
** Description changed:

The following code in DeviceManager's fill_dhcp_udp_checksums assumes
  IPv6 is always enabled:

  iptables_mgr = iptables_manager.IptablesManager(use_ipv6=True,
  namespace=namespace)

When iptables_mgr.apply() is later called, an attempt to add the UDP
checksum rule for DHCP is done via iptables-save/iptables-restore and if
IPv6 has been disabled on a hypervisor (eg, by setting `ipv6.disable=1`
on the kernel command line) then an many-line error occurs in the DHCP
  agent logfile.

There should be a way of telling the agent that IPv6 is disabled and as
such, it should ignore trying to set up the UDP checksum rule for IPv6.
This can be easily achieved given that IptablesManager already has
  support for disabling it.

We've seen this on Rocky on Ubuntu Bionic but it appears the issue still
  exists on the master branch.

  =
  Ubuntu SRU details:

- [Impact]
- See above.
+
+ [Impact]

- [Test Case]
- Deploy openstack on a hypervisor with IPv6 disabled.
- Create a network which has a subnetwork with DHCP enabled.
- Search the `neutron-dhcp-agent.log` (with debug log enabled) and check if
there are any `ip6tables-restore` commands.
+ See above

- [Regression Potential]
- Minimal.
- Users which were relying on the setting to always be true could be affected.
+
+ [Test Plan]
+
+ Disable IPv6 on a hypervisor.
+ sudo sysctl -w net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6=1
+ sudo sysctl -w net.ipv6.conf.default.disable_ipv6=1
+ sudo sysctl -w net.ipv6.conf.lo.disable_ipv6=1
+ Deploy Openstack Ussuri or Victoria with one compute node, using the
hypervisor which has IPv6 disabled as a neutron gateway.
+ Create a network which has a subnetwork with DHCP enabled. Eg:
+ openstack network create net1
+ openstack subnet create subnet1 --network net1 --subnet-range 192.0.2.0/24
--dhcp
+ Search the `/var/log/neutron/neutron-dhcp-agent.log` (with debug log enabled)
and check if there are any `ip6tables-restore` commands. Eg:
+ sudo grep ip6tables-restore /var/log/neutron/neutron-dhcp-agent.log
+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+
+ Users which were relying on the setting to always be true could be
+ affected.

  agent logfile.

+
+ =
+ Ubuntu SRU details:
+
+ [Impact]
+ See above.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ Deploy openstack on a hypervisor with IPv6 disabled.
+ Create a network which has a subnetwork with DHCP enabled.
+ Search the `neutron-dhcp-agent.log` (with debug log enabled) and check if
there are any `ip6tables-restore` commands.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Minimal.
+ Users which were relying on the setting to always be true could be affected.

[Bug 1943086] [NEW] linux-modules-nvidia-470-generic-hwe-20.04 dependency cant be installed

2021-09-08 Thread Gabriel Mazetto
Public bug reported:

linux-modules-nvidia-470-generic-hwe-20.04=5.11.0-34.36~20.04.1 depends
on nvidia-kernel-common-470 (>= 470.63.01) but that version is not
published, the latest one available today is
470.57.02-0ubuntu0.20.04.1

That means that installing latest hwe kernel for 20.04 breaks nvidia
driver. This is problematic in distros like Elementary OS 6 as they dont
expose the grub menu, so you have the latest kernel version installed
only, which will not be able to boot on the graphical interface because
there is no driver.

** Affects: linux-restricted-modules-hwe-5.11 (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

@Jerry-lee-tpe,

Following your steps:

Hirsute is installed on L460 , the kernel is replaced with Focal's
kernel (5.8.0-63-generic)

(1) is passed.

The initial kernel of Hirsute is 5.11.0-16-generic, the issue
reproduces;

Upgrade kernel to 5.11.0-31-generic, the issue reproduces.

[Bug 357732] Re: cups always prints with the default page size

2021-07-21 Thread Gabriel Kaufmann
Having kind of this issue on my Ubuntu Xenial (16.04) with Brother MFC
Laser-Printer. The printer worked fine on the same system for over 1
year and suddenly every(!) custom settings from GUI printing dialog was
ignored. I need papersize A4 but always got letter format.

The only workaround I found was to set A4 hard-coded in default PPA
file. But since today I can't switch dublex-printing or switch from
color-printing (default) to black and white!

Very annoying and I don't know what may have changed between once
working and stopped ignoring my custom printing settings for a new
printing-job.

In my case there already is '/usr/lib/cups/filter/pstopdf'.

Reinstalling the packages 'cups-filters cups-filters-core-drivers'
didn't help.

[Bug 1934643] [NEW] infinite loop in patched cJSON_Minify function

2021-07-05 Thread Gabriel Zachmann
Public bug reported:

Dear Maintainer,

Version 1.7.10-1.1 is the most recent version on focal. The last release
included a patch for CVE-2019-11835 (issue #338 on
upstream). However, this patch introduced a bug in the patched function
cJSON_Minify (issue #354 on upstream). There is a (potential) infinite loop in
the relevant function. The issue has been fixed in commit
08d2bc766a82cd75764d036f9efef444590d1cf9
The fix is included in newer releases, so it is included on ubuntu groovy and
newer.
I request to patch this issue on focal. The fix is very small (only two lines
of code).

The same issue arised on debian buster and the patch was applied (see
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=973442 )

Thanks for your help.

[Bug 1929650] [NEW] Screen doesn't turn off when using Wayland on a Thinkpad E480

2021-05-26 Thread Gabriel Ionescu
Public bug reported:

[Bug 1489855] Re: Change to mount sequence order breaks persistence on casper-rw partitions

2020-12-06 Thread Gabriel Dina
I have a true very simple idea how to decide the importance of this bug,
just add a field of how much time and money we lost with this shitty
bug.

[Bug 1903838] [NEW] package libcrypt1 1:4.4.10-10ubuntu4 failed to install/upgrade: rm command for cleanup subprocess returned error exit status 127

2020-11-11 Thread Gabriel Tzagkarakis
Public bug reported:

do-release-upgrade from bionic to focal has broken for me on at least 9 servers
during release upgrade. perl tries to load /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libcrypt.so.1
,which is deleted at this point,
and the upgrade fails.
I always manage to complete the upgrade by copying
/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libcrypt.so.1.1.0
from a healthy system (20.04.1) and making the symlink to
/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libcrypt.so.1 and resuming the upgrade with apt
dist-upgrade.

[Bug 1819543] Re: Does not exit correctly, have to "kill -9

2020-11-08 Thread Ricardo Gabriel da Silva Brunne Valle
Affects me on Kubuntu 20.04 in multiple machines. If I close the app via
the "X" button AND it is playing some media file it gets stuck and I
need to give a "killall -9 vlc" command. It closes just fine if I stop
the media before closing with the "X" button. If I quit the app with
CTRL+Q or with the close command in the "media" menu it exits just fine
even if media is playing. Starting the app via command line, panel or by
clicking on a file seems to have no effect on this behavior.

[Bug 1895486] Re: [media-keys] Fn media keys with lag slow/delay on Gnome with "Scroll Lock" keyboards

2020-10-26 Thread Gabriel Mattos Baeta Neves
I'm having the same problem with both Ubuntu 18.04 and 20.04. Commenting
the line

modifier_map Mod3 { Scroll_Lock };

does help but it does not solve it. My system does not freeze anymore
but CPU usage still goes unusually up.

In addition, setting the brightness with the mouse by clicking and
dragging on the top bar makes the brightness icon lag and causes the
same odd CPU behavior.

It also only happens on xorg.
