I have desktop hangs up while using audacity on ubuntu karmic koala.
Some guys saw that starting audacity from a terminal removed their problems.
I'll try it.

Finally, it is the same for me even starting Audacity from a terminal.
It is still using a lot of CPU while doing nothing and it hangs up sometimes.
No messages appear in the terminal.

On my desktop with a resolution of 1280x800 pixels, palimpsest window is larger
than 1280 pixels.
And this window cannot be reduced.
The screenshot joined to this bug report shows the smallest size of the window.

gvfs-mount doesn't always work. gvfsd-smb starts using 100% cpu.
I had to delete all my passwords in seahorse.
But after that, it is working nice again even with password protected samba
shared folders.

Is it also normal that glxinfo returns OpenGL renderer string: Software
Rasterizer ?
And is it normal that compiz effects cannot be activated from
Preferences-Appearence ?
Are they both needing 3D acceleration, 2D is not sufficient for them
