[Bug 876703] [NEW] evince isn't added to mailcap

2011-10-17 Thread Grant Likely
Public bug reported:

Evince no longer shows up as the pdf handler in /etc/mailcap. This
means that mutt and other programs relying on /etc/mailcap for handling
attachments cannot open a helper for displaying .pdf files. I cannot
confirm it, but my guess is that this happened as part of 3.0.0-4ubuntu1
since I see in the changelog a comment about dropping evince.mime:

  * evince.mime: dropped. We have desktop files to handle MIME
associations, no need to maintain an alternate system by hand.
Closes: #619564, #627027, #551734, #581441.

update-mime does not look at desktop files when building /etc/mailcap,
so this could also be considered to affect mime-support.

[Bug 707047] Re: Only half of RAM useable when using Device Tree on Panda board

2011-06-27 Thread Grant Likely
Hmmm, I had hoped that would not be a limitation with Rob Herrings patch
to allow DTB/ATAGs to be mapped during early setup. I guess we need to
force u-boot to keep things lower. I believe the easy fix is to define
CONFIG_SYS_BOOTMAPSZ to be something like 512MB in u-boot.

[Bug 707047] Re: Only half of RAM useable when using Device Tree on Panda board

2011-06-21 Thread Grant Likely
Without looking at both DT and non-DT boot logs, I suspect the problem
is that U-Boot is only reporting 512MB of ram, and stuffing that amount
into the /memory node in the DT. It looks like in the non-DT use case,
the kernel command line is being used to manually set the RAM layout,
probably so that the FB region doesn't get used by the kernel. In the
DT, a couple of memreserve blocks are used to the same purpose:

/memreserve/ 0x9D00 0x0300; /* Frame buffer */
/memreserve/ 0xB000 0x1000; /* Top 256MB is unaccessable */

I put those memreserve lines in, but I've never done the due diligence
to ensure they are actually accurate.

On a related note; this patch is needed to get bt working on the new
machine. However, it is scheduled to be added to 2.6.38.3 so the
problem will solve itself shortly. I won't create a bug for it
(unless you request it).

[Bug 740655] [NEW] Incorrect colour map for xv on radeon driver

2011-03-22 Thread Grant Likely
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

XV video output with the radeon driver (at least I assume it is a driver
problem) produces incorrectly coloured video output. The effect can be
seen from the gstreamer-properties application by selecting both xv and
no xv options in the video tab and clicking 'test'.

I'll attach screen shots of the good and bad output.

I see the same behaviour on a MacBook 2,1 with the Apple bluetooth
keyboard and magic touchpad. Sometimes it works, sometimes it appears
for only 2 seconds before disappearing again.

[Bug 661546] Re: Slow graphics on Mobile Intel 943GML

2011-03-14 Thread Grant Likely
I'm running into the same issue on Natty. This is on a MacBook 2,1 with
an external monitor. Intel 945GM chipset. It appears to be related to
the framebuffer size. The laptop panel works fine alone, as does an
external monitor at 1920x1080 alone.

However, if I enable both displays at full resolution, then I get the
Failed to set tiling on frontbuffer error message in Xorg.0.log, and
compositing is *very slow*. If I reduce the resolution on both
monitors, then I can get it working correctly again.

Here's an error log from the failed case:

[Bug 528981] Re: Repetitive massive filesystem corruption

2010-06-07 Thread Grant Likely
Hi Andy,

I'm also seeing this issue on my MacBook 2,1 with an Intel SSD.
Typically it will go for long periods of time (days) without a problem
before seeing the failure. Often times it is when switching to a
different commit on my Linux-2.6 git tree that the failure will occur.
I've now switched to Brian Rodgers linux-2.6.34-v9patch-generic kernel
to see if that helps things.

I would like to run the test case shown in comment #25, but the
/sys/class/scsi_host/*/link_power_management_policy control file is not
present on my system. Does anyone know if there any other known test
cases to reproduce this problem?

[Bug 558631] [NEW] vertical gnome-panel menu bar is layed out backwards

2010-04-08 Thread Grant Likely
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

On horizontal panels, the order for menu items follows
western language left to right ordering: [Ubuntu logo], Applications,
Places, and System. If the panel is configured to be vertical on the
right-hand-side, then the order from top to bottom is the same: [logo],
Applications, Places System, and the text is rotated 270 degrees.

However, a left-hand-side vertical panel rotates text 90 degrees and uses
the reverse order putting System at the top, followed by Places,
Applications and [logo]. This seems to make sense because if the whole
menu gets rotated back to natural orientation then Applications is
first and System last. However, in vertical orientation top-to-bottom
seems to be the dominate orientation as far as how the eye scans items.
Also, using top-to-bottom arrangement places the Ubuntu logo up in the
corner where it belongs, instead of in the middle of the left hand panel
as it is right now.

Therefore, it seem to be that in both left-hand and right-hand side panels,
top-to-bottom is the best arrangement for the menu bar applet.

I think that it is both :)

I've done some digging, but haven't been able to make a whole lot of
headway. I tried creating a new pixbuf engine section in the gtkrc
file for the panel, but it doesn't seem like any of the possible
function= values have any effect on the panel as a whole. I looked at
the code, and found where gtkrc is parsed, but wasn't able to easily
see where the data is actually applied. Do you know if this is this
something missing from libgtk+? Or does gnome-panel need to be
changed to coincide with one of the function definitions? FLAT_BOX
has some effect, but only on the panel widgets, not the panel as a
whole.
