Binary package hint: xserver-xorg
In Hardy alpha4, dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg is missing the
questions about graphics hardware and monitor. It aborts after the
keyboard an mouse configuration. The created xorg.conf is
empty/unchanged. This worked in earlier versions of

From the Document
References to device and monitor are implicit, default monitor
resolution is detected
http://unichrome.sourceforge.net/ does list the VT3344 under the Supported
Hardware section. But below that section it reads:
Anything newer than VT3108 is still not supported.
The VT3344 *is* newer that the VT3108 :-( :-(
