1. Quantal, Testdrive, KVM - Presented with login prompt as noted in original
bug report, however, was not even able to login. After entering password, it
just brought me right back to login prompt.
2. Quantal, Virtualbox 4.2.12 - did not
Installed the 12.04.0 package from -proposed today. It did replace the
11.10 documentation with the correct 12.04 version but it appears there
are some missing pieces in the package. Two screenshots are attached
which show the problems. According to one of the developers I
consulted,

Further experimentation yielded another clue. It seems to depend on the
position of the mouse pointer. If AbiWord launches in an unmaximized
window and the mouse pointer is located outside of that window, the bug
behavior happens. If you reposition the mouse pointer, either before
opening AbiWord
I upgraded my laptop again from Trusty to Utopic and the problem
returned with the same symptoms. I then did a clean install of Vivid and
had the same problem afterwards.

Launch AbiWord and just start typing text. Nothing appears until you hit the
spacebar and then another AbiWord window opens. This will continue indefinitely

This version does indeed seem to fix the problem when there is only one
monitor. However, in a multi-monitor setup, it still offers the option
to move the dialog to another workspace. That is, with two monitors,
one workspace and Apply to all workspaces checked, xfdesktop4 will
show an infobar
I upgraded to this 4.11.8 release but I can't verify this fix because I
was not affected by bug 1313728 or 1312577 and I think there might still
be an issue with bug #1365382. I added a description of the issue in
that bug report. It seems so minor though that I don't want to mark

Ran Menulibre testcase from Xubuntu Testsuite A to see if it would reproduce

Testing a clean install of the 14.04.2 image on this same laptop, I saw
that the problem returned. Checked the kernel version and it was
3.16.0-30. The original Trusty release with the 3.13 kernel did not

Abiword opens multiple windows when spacebar is pressed, until
Per a suggestion on the xubuntu-devel IRC channel, I tested the intel
xorg-edgers ppa driver -- to no avail.
Next suggestion was to try a later kernel. First, I did a fresh install
of the current vivid daily image and confirmed that problem was still
present. Then I installed the latest 3.17
Did a fresh install with the 20150110 daily - which has the 3.18.0-8
kernel - and the problem seems to be fixed!

Laptop screen dims on
Uninstalled xfce-power-manager. Screen still dims on logout and now I can't
restore the brightness, even with the laptop function keys.

I re-read Simon's comment from 11-13 so I decided to try switching VTs.
After logging out and getting to the greeter with a dimmed screen, if I

I don't know if my symptoms are different or not. After I resume, I am
able to enter my password to unlock but instead of going to a completely
black screen, I get a "This session is locked. You'll be redirected to
the unlock dialog automatically in a few seconds" screen.
