Wow... just installed the latest batch of updates via the updater. It
LOOKED like it included the correct modules, but after the reboot I had
NO networking. Normally I at least had the wireless, but that was
knocked out too. Good thing I had the old drivers sitting in my Home
folder and was
Tim, I looked in the Software Center and all of the entries for
linux-image-extra imply they are for virtual guests, not the hosting
system. Is there someplace else I should be looking? I don't want to
hose my system so I want to be ABSOLUTELY sure before I do anything.

network connectivity. Had to install the drivers again manually. What's

Latest kernel update from Canonical broke my LAN connection, as the
kernel did not have the proper driver compiled. Fortunately I was able
to enable my wireless connection in order to perform the following
steps:
sudo apt-get install build-essential linux-headers-generic

In attempting to remove BOINC client and manager packages that remained
behind even though I uninstalled it from the software center, I entered
this command:
sudo apt-get --purge remove boinc-client boinc-manager
This error was the result.

I'm going to need some help here running that process outlined. I know
the Win16 apps work with the 3.13.0-27-generic kernel, and that they
were broken in the 3.13.0-29-generic kernel. I've solved MY problem by
reinstalling the 3.13.0-27-generic kernel and pinning it so I doesn't
get
Just tested 3.13.11-03131103-generic, which is the latest kernel I found
in the 3.13 branch. It failed.

And just confirmed it works with 3.14.0-031400-generic.
So it works with the 3.13 kernel up to 3.13.0-27-generic but is broken
in every version I've tested of the 3.13 kernels. It works in both of
the 3.14 kernels I've tested, so it looks like it got broken somewhere
between 3.13.0-27-generic

Apple's Quicktime also does not work in Chrome. It was pretty much a
MONUMENTALLY STUPID decision on Google's part to drop NPAPI support from
Chrome before a viable alternative was available for the majority of
plug-ins out there. About the only thing that DOES work is their own
version of the
Did some research. That fix is not available in the 3.13 kernel, it is
apparently only in the 3.14 kernel. I've pinned the 3.13 kernel at the
27 level so I'm good for the time being. I understand Linus and the
WINE team are looking for a way around this issue so SOMETHING should be
coming soon.
Yes, I have VirtualBox installed on this system which has DKMS modules
installed.
