What if you set apm = 64 in hdparm.conf? Is it overwritten with 254 by the
acpi-support script? Please file a new bug then, this one is already far too
long...
If setting the apm level in hdparm.conf works it's not a real problem IMO as
users need to edit hdparm.conf anyway to get the spindown.
Without compiz it doesn't happen. The window spawns in the foreground,
though it sometimes doesn't get the focus.
Blowing aways /apps/metacity , /apps/compiz , /apps/compizconfig at the
same time seems to have solved it. (compiz must be reading some metacity
settings?)

Side note: The windows installer for LyX installs epstopdf (right, not eps2pdf
or something else) by default along with the miktex LaTeX distribution.

How to add the nautilus bookmark of death (WARNING: Do this a new user account,
you will probably lose gnome settings and stuff when doing Ctrl-Alt-Backspace
to recover):
1) Open any random folder with nautilus
2) menu Bookmarks-Add bookmark
3) Bookmarks-Edit Bookmarks

Notes: The panels don't even recover after 2 minutes when triggering the bug

Still experience this bug on Hardy final, Geforce Go 7400, nvidia-glx-
new. Note that it's not only Nvidia users who see this problem.

Even after the fix from Bug #187383, gnome-system-monitor's Resources tab is
*unusable* for CPU monitoring because it loads the CPU significantly with graph
drawing alone.
On an Athlon XP 2500+, graph drawing (fullscreen window)
I also think that the CPU usage is still too high. But we can't take over this
bug and reset it's status to New or whatever because a fix _has_ been
released. And it probabably fixed the issue for some.
