[Bug 1914963] [NEW] Unable to upgrade to 20.04, could not calculate upgrade.

2021-02-07 Thread Jason Smith
Public bug reported:

I'm currently using Ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS and I'm trying to upgrade to
20.04. I keep getting the 'could not calculate upgrade' error. I have
searched through bug reports exhaustively and cannot find the solution.
I have no broken packages according to apt and aptitude. I don't know
what to do. I've removed everything that shows up in previous bug
reports as causing problems.

This works on Radeon HD 6620G. Thanks everyone for the hard work on
this...I was holding off my upgrade to 15.10 for this as I need
proprietary drivers for some stuff on wine, this works like a charm now!

[Bug 1273652] Re: apply of multi-monitor setting results in crash

2014-11-10 Thread Jason Smith
I believe the problem is a mismatch between the driver and the settings
app. The nvidia-settings attached to driver 304 is actually 331...if
you manually install nvidia-settings 304 (the deb for which you can dig
up somewhere on the nvidia-settings launchpad/files page) all is ok

[Bug 1211927] [NEW] Can't use personas in Libreoffice 4.1.0.4 in Xubuntu 12.04 64-bit

2013-08-13 Thread Jason Smith
Public bug reported:

I go to Tools - Options - Personalization.

I check 'Own Theme' then click on 'Select Theme'.

I found the theme I wanted, copied and pasted the URL in the Select
Theme' window.

When I click 'OK' LibreOffice crashes. No error message or anything it
simply vanishes. I even tried looking in this folder:
/home/jason/.mozilla/firefox/3yvxv88p.default/lwtheme to copy and paste
the images into the LibreOffice gallery but the images for my current
theme are not there.

I have images from a previous theme which are also in the LibreOffice
gallery. I can't seem to get personas to work in LibreOffice 4.1.0.4.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

I am running Xubuntu 12.04 64-bit.

[Bug 667050] Re: skype instance is not detected properly in the launcher

2012-04-02 Thread Jason Smith
We can't fix this because skype is unmapping its window when you hit the
close button and then launching a new instance when you run its binary
again. Unmapping all windows effectively closes an application from the
user point of view.

[Bug 923749] Re: New push mouse offscreen feature really difficult to get

2012-02-21 Thread Jason Smith
** Description changed:

  In unity 5.2 RC1:
  - revealing the launcher by putting mouse on the edge and pushing seems very
hard (the distance to push it long). This is even worse on trackpad.

  Related issue:
on multimonitor setup, going from one monitor to the edge suffer from the
same issue (you have to push the mouse a lot, more than it felt naturally
needed). Especially when you drag a window using the trackpad.
Also, when you put your mouse on the central point slowly to go to monitor 2,
you get stuck even if you believe that the mouse is already on the monitor 2
(because there is one pixel left on monitor 1 and the whole cursor is drawn on
monitor 2)

This is on a dell Latitute XT2, with default mouse velocity option.
+
+ EDIT - There is a new bug in the newest nvidia drivers that causes
+ launchers on the left-most monitor to not reveal. This can be fixed by
+ adding
+
+ Option ConstrainCursor no
+
+ to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf until a more general fix is pushed to distro.
+ This breakage is caused purely by a change to the upstream nvidia
+ driver.

resulted in memory corruption. This memory corruption results in
behavior similar to what you described. A fully up to date unity without
PPA's will resolve the issue.

Nah I'm pretty certain this is a legit issue. Mirco is probably mis-
parsing the gdk color somehow. It's probably a trivial fix. Either way I
am on the nvidia blob :)

[Bug 923749] Re: New push mouse offscreen feature really difficult to get

2012-02-06 Thread Jason Smith
The idea is that you are sustaining a push over a period of time. The
important factor is the time. If you open CCSM and adjust the
responsiveness slider you will have a shorter required sustained push.
We dont have to expose this slider if we can decide on a value for it.
Currently it defaults to 1.0f.

The reason your quick swipes dont work is that they dont sustain the
pressure for very long. You are applying very high pressure for a very
short period of time. So the system sees this as very similar to
accidentally cruising into the side when quickly going for the back
button. The idea is to show intention. Maybe we currently require too
much intention.

The problem is people are trying to push faster, when the correct motion
is a slow sustained push. The slider (even if we dont expose it)
basically allows you to tweak for sustained push vs higher allowed
pressures. The more responsive the launcher is, the more prone to
false positives it becomes. I have chosen a very conservative value for
now, perhaps we should increase the value to 2.0f.

2012-01-29 Thread Jason Smith
The linked branch should resolve the issue. Simply put there were a LOT
of 0's in that list. The tracker should have been ignoring GUID 0 (its
not valid and represents a client side texture) but was not accurately
doing this.

[Bug 888039] Re: Gradual degradation in desktop performance.

2012-01-29 Thread Jason Smith
If new bugs are found, please open a new bug report. Do not re-open this
one as it has scoped down to a particular bug in Nux. It would be a
disservice to any other defects to tack them to the bottom of this
report.

** Description changed:

+ edit - This bug has been scoped down to a particular std:vectorint
+ growing out of control inside of nux. Any report about degrading
+ performance not related to this should be filed as new bugs. :) Thanks
+ guys.
+
Over the span of 1-3 days I see my desktop consistently become more
sluggish. The functions most affected are window movement, file icon
movement, and sometimes window resizing. Other animations (such as
minimizing fades, switching desktops, expo mode) are not affected when
this degradation occurs. They remain smooth; however, I have let the
problem go on as long as to find out that eventually all desktop
animations/effects will degrade, it just takes a lot lot longer. I find
that my actual 3D gaming goes unaffected (though I have no data to back
  that up, perhaps it does).

I have recorded the output of 'ps auxw' and have slowly watched the VSZ
and RSS memory columns creep upwards. A fresh compiz session will see
675164 and 169860, respectively. After a day or two it will result in as
high as 878552 and 255664. I have attached a log output from an hourly
cron job (though I had suspended for a few days because of travel).

After the degradation has occurred compiz will consistently use higher
CPU. Dragging a terminal window while watching top: before: ~10%, after:
  ~30 percent.

This has been an issue since 11.04 for me on both my Intel i915 and
Nvidia (proprietary) machines (had an 8600 GT and upgraded to 560 GTX,
both having the same issue). However, the nvidia machine is where it
really hurts, _always_ happening within a day or two, while the i915
machine is pretty reliable overall with certain instances of degradation
(used to be affected just as badly in 11.04).

I will attach two videos demonstrating behavior before and after.

Re: [Bug 855532] Re: Add keyboard shortcut hint overlay that is displayed when a user presses and holds the Super key

2011-11-23 Thread Jason Smith
On 11/23/2011 02:23 PM, Mark Shuttleworth wrote:
Are we showing the Launcher in every monitor? Do we have a clear idea of
 a primary monitor, or a monitor-with-focus?

Primary monitor is an interesting problem. We inside unity have an idea
of a primary monitor which is not directly tied to whatever X considers
the primary monitor. This allows us to easily move it to, for example,
follow the mouse, or window focus.

As we will be showing a launcher on every monitor, primary monitor needs
to be more cleanly defined. Currently I have been working off the idea
that primary monitor will more or less follow the mouse. This matches
the behavior that was shown in the multi-monitor demo (dash open on the
monitor the BFB was clicked on, or the monitor the mouse was on when you
press the super key). Alt-tab also observes this same primary follows
mouse behavior.

[Bug 863399] Re: Unity needs a way to switch (tab) between windows on current workspace

2011-10-27 Thread Jason Smith
Alt-tab switcher now has an option to make it workspace aware as
requested. It will only show applications and windows on the current
viewport when this mode is enabled. This will land in 12.04, however is
in trunk today.

[Bug 236275] Re: System very slow after suspend-to-ram

2011-10-01 Thread Jason Smith
Im getting this in natty too, or something similar. Suspend/resume work
fine and are fast, but after resuming, hard drive access speed is
limited to ~4MB/s. USB hard drives plugged into the system are not
affected though. It's not quite unusable, but extremely frustrating
when doing anything with the hard drive.

[Bug 861250] Re: alt-tab - quick alt + tab (before the switcher shows) not consistent

2011-09-28 Thread Jason Smith
Okay so I had a chat with design about this and here is the realistic
results:

There are cases where you want alt-tab to raise every window of an
application (chat clients, gimp, configuration windows) and cases where
you dont. The solution proposed trades one set of problems for another
when what we need is a smarter behavior. This behavior can be determined
by identifying if a window serves the function of a primary task, or a
supported task to a primary window. Transient windows provide is the
majority hint we need, but are not 100% reliable (barely 50% accurate
really). So for O+1 we will have to tackle this problem head on with a
look to identifying these cases more clearly.
