[Bug 1914963] [NEW] Unable to upgrade to 20.04, could not calculate upgrade.
Public bug reported: I'm currently using Ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS and I'm trying to upgrade to 20.04. I keep getting the 'could not calculate upgrade' error. [Bug 923749] Re: New push mouse offscreen feature really difficult to get
** Description changed: In unity 5.2 RC1: - revealing the launcher by putting mouse on the edge and pushing seems very hard (the distance to push it long). This is even worse on trackpad. Related issue: on multimonitor setup, going from one monitor to the edge suffer from the same issue (you have to push the mouse a lot, more than it felt naturally needed). Especially when you drag a window using the trackpad. Also, when you put your mouse on the central point slowly to go to monitor 2, you get stuck even if you believe that the mouse is already on the monitor 2 (because there is one pixel left on monitor 1 and the whole cursor is drawn on monitor 2) This is on a dell Latitute XT2, with default mouse velocity option. + + EDIT - There is a new bug in the newest nvidia drivers that causes + launchers on the left-most monitor to not reveal. [Bug 923749] Re: New push mouse offscreen feature really difficult to get
The idea is that you are sustaining a push over a period of time. The important factor is the time. If you open CCSM and adjust the responsiveness slider you will have a shorter required sustained push. We dont have to expose this slider if we can decide on a value for it. Currently it defaults to 1.0f. The reason your quick swipes dont work is that they dont sustain the pressure for very long. You are applying very high pressure for a very short period of time. So the system sees this as very similar to accidentally cruising into the side when quickly going for the back button. The idea is to show intention. Maybe we currently require too much intention. The problem is people are trying to push faster, when the correct motion is a slow sustained push. The slider (even if we dont expose it) basically allows you to tweak for sustained push vs higher allowed pressures. The more responsive the launcher is, the more prone to false positives it becomes. I have chosen a very conservative value for now, perhaps we should increase the value to 2.0f. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/923749 Title: New push mouse offscreen feature really difficult to get To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/923749/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 888039] Re: Gradual degradation in desktop performance.
If new bugs are found, please open a new bug report. Do not re-open this one as it has scoped down to a particular bug in Nux. It would be a disservice to any other defects to tack them to the bottom of this report. ** Description changed: + edit - This bug has been scoped down to a particular std:vectorint + growing out of control inside of nux. Any report about degrading + performance not related to this should be filed as new bugs. :) Thanks + guys. + Over the span of 1-3 days I see my desktop consistently become more sluggish. The functions most affected are window movement, file icon movement, and sometimes window resizing. Other animations (such as minimizing fades, switching desktops, expo mode) are not affected when this degradation occurs. They remain smooth; however, I have let the problem go on as long as to find out that eventually all desktop animations/effects will degrade, it just takes a lot lot longer. I find that my actual 3D gaming goes unaffected (though I have no data to back that up, perhaps it does). I have recorded the output of 'ps auxw' and have slowly watched the VSZ and RSS memory columns creep upwards. A fresh compiz session will see 675164 and 169860, respectively. After a day or two it will result in as high as 878552 and 255664. I have attached a log output from an hourly cron job (though I had suspended for a few days because of travel). After the degradation has occurred compiz will consistently use higher CPU. Dragging a terminal window while watching top: before: ~10%, after: ~30 percent. This has been an issue since 11.04 for me on both my Intel i915 and Nvidia (proprietary) machines (had an 8600 GT and upgraded to 560 GTX, both having the same issue). However, the nvidia machine is where it really hurts, _always_ happening within a day or two, while the i915 machine is pretty reliable overall with certain instances of degradation (used to be affected just as badly in 11.04). I will attach two videos demonstrating behavior before and after. --- ApportVersion: 1.23-0ubuntu4 Architecture: amd64 CheckboxSubmission: 33c9cec13de798ee31ce4ea2f2cbd4df CheckboxSystem: 4ed15c40009aa6f7770f606350a390a2 CompizPlugins: [core, detection, composite, opengl, decor, regex, winrules, compiztoolbox, animation, grid, vpswitch, snap, place, gnomecompat, resize, move, mousepoll, imgpng, workarounds, session, expo, wall, fade, scale, unityshell] DistroCodename: oneiric DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10 DistroVariant: ubuntu InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat - Release amd64 (20101007) NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia Package: compiz 1:0.9.6+bzr20110929-0ubuntu5vv1 PackageArchitecture: all ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.0.0-12.20-generic 3.0.4 Tags: oneiric running-unity oneiric running-unity ubuntu Uname: Linux 3.0.0-12-generic x86_64 UnreportableReason: This is not a genuine Ubuntu package UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to oneiric on 2011-10-13 (26 days ago) UserGroups: adm admin cdrom dialout lpadmin plugdev sambashare -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/888039 Title: Gradual degradation in desktop performance. Re: [Bug 855532] Re: Add keyboard shortcut hint overlay that is displayed when a user presses and holds the Super key
On 11/23/2011 02:23 PM, Mark Shuttleworth wrote: Are we showing the Launcher in every monitor? Do we have a clear idea of a primary monitor, or a monitor-with-focus? Primary monitor is an interesting problem. We inside unity have an idea of a primary monitor which is not directly tied to whatever X considers the primary monitor. This allows us to easily move it to, for example, follow the mouse, or window focus. As we will be showing a launcher on every monitor, primary monitor needs to be more cleanly defined. Currently I have been working off the idea that primary monitor will more or less follow the mouse. This matches the behavior that was shown in the multi-monitor demo (dash open on the monitor the BFB was clicked on, or the monitor the mouse was on when you press the super key). Alt-tab also observes this same primary follows mouse behavior. [Bug 861250] Re: alt-tab - quick alt + tab (before the switcher shows) not consistent
Okay so I had a chat with design about this and here is the realistic results: There are cases where you want alt-tab to raise every window of an application (chat clients, gimp, configuration windows) and cases where you dont. The solution proposed trades one set of problems for another when what we need is a smarter behavior. This behavior can be determined by identifying if a window serves the function of a primary task, or a supported task to a primary window. Transient windows provide is the majority hint we need, but are not 100% reliable (barely 50% accurate really). So for O+1 we will have to tackle this problem head on with a look to identifying these cases more clearly. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/861250 Title: alt-tab - quick alt + tab (before the switcher shows) not consistent To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/861250/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
