I've just stumbled into this bug on 14.04.1. Worked around by commenting
out auth required pam_shells.so in /etc/pam.d/vsftpd and restarting
vsftpd as mentioned in 869684.

Download e1000 driver version 8.0.9 from intel.com.
sudo make CFLAGS_EXTRA=-DE1000_MASTER_SLAVE=1 install
sudo rmmod e1000

The only unusual thing I can recall is that it noticed differences
between the existing and new versions of minidlna.conf, and I had it
show me the differences, and then I told it to keep the existing
version. In other words a typical upgrade scenario.

F8 brings up the search box but does not set input focus on it. User
must move mouse up to the search box and click before typing query.
Ctrl-f both brings up the box and puts input focus on it. Why the
difference? The View menu lists Search Bar
I guess I'm not getting it. Would putting input focus in the box on F8
interfere with the user doing something else? What? I've tried a few
things (e.g. ctrl-5, shift-ctrl-X) and they still function as expected

After installing the ubuntu-x-swat PPA, do I need to:
1. Remove the prior driver, which was downloaded from nvidia and installed via
sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-195.36.24-pkg1.run? By doing sh
NVIDIA-Linux-x86-195.36.24-pkg1.run --uninstall?
2. Launch synaptic and install nvidia-current?
3. Also
Since installing version 256 I haven't been able to turn on compiz on my
system, let alone have it work remotely. System / Appearance / Visual
Effects / Extra causes the screen to blink a bit and then Desktop
effects could not be enabled.
From Xorg.0.log it is loading the new driver and seems

alias nvidia nvidia-current
and rebooted. Now modprobe nvidia no longer complains, but I still
have all of the other issues noted earlier.
/lib/modules/2.6.32-22-generic/updates/dkms contains one nvidia file,
