I concur. In addition even if I run /etc/init.d/avahi-daemon start as
root, nothing happens. This might be a scripting issue. Started by
simply issuing avahi-daemon works just fine.

I've already upgraded via hand (dist-upgrade) and manually removed
python and the above mentioned libraries. For me there is a current

I have also experienced this problem (as Stan has described) but with a
fresh install of Dapper alt install. Everything works according to plan
(and according to the wiki entry) but then I fall into the same pit: It
kept telling me the filesystem didn't exist until I tried mount -t ext3
This helped me launch the broken alsamixer but did not fix my lack of
OSS sound. No affect otherwise on ALSA which is working.

Hmm Processing this via qdvdauthor seems to work so the error must be
associated with the Kino created xml file. Here is the qdvdauthor xml
file. qdvdauthur took the original kino written magician.xml file and
wrote a new one.

I have been able to confirm this on my System76 Darter. It appears to
also have been the problem I've been seeing since feisty where the HD
seems to always be in use. By deactivating APM (e.g. hdparm -B 255
/dev/sda ), my always in use issue has been resolved. My current Load
Cycle is 333001
Keep in mind that you can change the acpi spindown time in /etc/defaults
/acpi-support. restarting the acpi-support service should enable the
new times. I'm unfortunately not a power management expert so your
mileage may vary.

It appears that locale-gen is failing. This also fails by hand but when
called from install-language-pack. I suspect something else is using
locale-gen and failing causing the failure of the language pack.

I have a similar issue. So far I've been unable to resolve it. It
appears to only affect FF+flash. Gnash+FF works in that there is sound

Adding me too for this. I have exhausted all attempts to find what
system process is continuously writing (100% of the time) to my disk on
my System76 laptop. Without blktrace working I am sunk. The problem
started when I did a fresh install of Feisty so reinstalling won't fix
the issue.

Hi this bug is occurring for me in Gutsy T5 even with my user in the
fuse group. I had to set chmod +x /usr/bin/fusermount in order to mount
anything via sshfs. This bug is marked invalid so I don't expect it to
be worked on.

Hi,
I've applied the fix that just hit the repositories. It worked however I
am unable to launch gnome-appearance-properties now. In fact, my
terminal font is so small that I've had to copy and paste this error
into gedit :-)

The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.

I've just confirmed on my non-synaptics machine that this is also broken
