what I've got in natty is linux-image-2.6.37-8-generic, version
2.6.37-8.21, and no luck. Still the same: HD panel doesn't work, but

After suspend, my displayport-connected monitor will (most often) no
longer work at the native 1200x1080 resolution.
Restarting X fixes it.

Um.
By removing hal, you're removing users ability to watch Amazon video, or
any other flash drm-based video (the only kind of for-pay commercial
