[Bug 522996] Re: Keys get stuck on Dell Studio 1535

2014-01-19 Thread Johnny Levai
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected single-occurrence trusty ubuntu

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xorg

I have a Dell Studio 1535 and I have problems with the keyboard. I've
used Jaunty and now using Karmic, but I'm still experiencing problems.
Sometimes when I type, a key randomly gets stuck and repeats, until I
press a key again (it doesn't matter if I press the same key or any
other key). I've also used Kubuntu and experienced the same there too.
It's very hard to reproduce because it's random. I've also tried Windows
Vista and Windows 7, but there were no issues there. Typing seems to be
jagged compared to typing in Windows.

Someone else already reported this issue on the forums:
  http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1352624

I hope that we can hunt down this little irritating bug :)

[Bug 522996] Re: Keys get stuck on Dell Studio 1535

2014-01-19 Thread Johnny Levai
Installed the latest daily-live image. After using it for 24 hours, I
ran into the issue again: seems like the key-up event was not picked up.
I had to press another key, since a textbox I was typing in was being
filled with the character K.

[Bug 522996] [NEW] Keys get stuck on Dell Studio 1535

2010-02-16 Thread Johnny Levai
Public bug reported:

I can also confirm this, I'm using a Dell Studio 15. Btw, is this the
reason that wireless works half as fast compared to Vista?

 sudo /usr/bin/vmware-config.pl

First this complained that I had the wrong version of gcc (4.2 instead of

[Bug 59695] Re: High frequency of load/unload cycles on some hard disks may shorten lifetime

2008-09-25 Thread Johnny Levai
Yes, it IS pesent in Windows too. Just checked it in Vista SP1, and not
only with my ears, but also with smartmontools and hdparm for Windows.
Vista does the same as Ubuntu: nothing... it just let's the hdd manage
itself. I fixed it in Linux with setting hdparm to 254 while on AC mode
and 128 while on battery mode. I also installed ramlog, so it's
performing very nicely :) Actually the only thing killing my hdd right
now is Vista. But updates are coming with acpi-support to do the hdparm
thing automatically.

[Bug 273468] [NEW] No input after setting brightness on Dell Studio 1535

2008-09-23 Thread Johnny Levai
Public bug reported:

I use Ubuntu Intrepid and when I set the brightness with Fn+Up or
Fn+Down the progress bar goes all the way up (or down) as if the keys
were stuck then. The brightness changes as desired but I can no longer
input any text from the keyboard or clicks from the mouse/touchpad.
Interestingly I can move the mouse. When I did this in Kubuntu Intrepid
it didn't lock up like this.

[Bug 267247] Re: intrepid alpha5 does not boot with Intel X3100

2008-09-21 Thread Johnny Levai
I can confirm this. I'm using Intrepid Alpha6 on a Dell Studio 1535 with
the same video card. The funny thing is, sometimes it boots up
correctly, but some times the screen gets messed up with red/orange and
the booting hangs. I have to turn off my notebook by pressing the
shutdown button for 5 seconds. When I turn it on again, it boots like it
supposed to do. Is there any log file I can share with you?

[Bug 236663] Re: No easy way to mount pre-existing partitions after OS installed

2008-08-06 Thread Johnny Levai
I'm using KDE, but it really annoys me too. Past (K)Ubuntu releases used to
automount my partitions after I installed them, but not Hardy. It automounted
it only when I opened it with Konqueror. I had to open it first in Konqueor to
play my music in Amarok... Even though KDE has a nice Disk Filesystems module
in Systemsettings, new users shouldn't have to mess around with mount points
and stuff like that. In this section, there's been a step backwards in
usability.
I've removed gparted as the affected application, replaced with HAL, but I'm
not 100% sure that the problem is in HAL.

Sorry for my incomplete sentence upload it so we can test it. I didn't
ment uploading to the Feisty repos, but somewhere so we can download it
and test it. I don't know how does something get a newer vesion in the
repos, but I saw something similar in the HPLIP Toolbox case: we had
some bugs, so the maintainer got built a deb package from the new
version, uploaded it to his own host or what was it, 12 users or so
downloaded it, tested it, and reported any problems, or if it was
working correctly. There were no regressions, and bugs were fixed in
that release, so he made a report, and the HPLIP Toolbox was updated to
the new version.

I could reproduce this. No mather if I click on the Reload list button in the

1. It starts to download packages, and then suddenly stops, Ubuntu Restricted
Extras is still unselected.
2. Then I select the package again, and it sort of continues, I agree to the
license agreement and so on, but in the end, when setting up the packages, it
gives me an error, and the output Gary W. posted.
I rebooted and tried again, but the same happened again and again.

I tried a sudo apt-get update, and then tried to install ubuntu-
restricted-extras, but the packages wasn't in the database... strange.

Gary, does this happen only in the Feisty Beta livecd?

[Bug 102851] Re: Opera failed after update - date 04/04/07

2007-04-06 Thread Johnny Levai
I also downgraded, because I could not live without Opera ;)
I found the package here: https://launchpad.net/+builds/+build/315774/libx11-6
After I installed it Opera ran smoothly, although installing this package only,
gives me this in terminal:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ opera
ERROR: ld.so: object 'libjvm.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded: ignored.
ERROR: ld.so: object 'libawt.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded: ignored.

...but hey, Opera starts with the libx11-6-2:1.1.1-1ubuntu2 package.

2007-04-06 Thread Johnny Levai
I don't think this update will be removed, because this was a security
update:

libx11 (2:1.1.1-1ubuntu3) feisty; urgency=low

  * SECURITY UPDATE: Multiple integer overflows in the XGetPixel()
and XInitImage functions.
  * Add debian/patches/104_integer_overflows.diff: upstream fix.

I just hope they sort it out somehow...

Great, it works with the Hotfix. Thanks Mohegan.
Should I mark this bug as Fix Committed, and after they release Opera 9.20 Fix
Released?

[Bug 103909] Re: update-manager problem

2007-04-06 Thread Johnny Levai
I too found myself in situations like this. I think it's because the mirrors.
When I was using the romanian mirrors as repos, it happened very often. It's
very frustrating as you have to manually fix the problem every time this
happens.
How about first synching the packages, and only after that the list in case of
the foreign mirrors?

This was confirmed on the forum too:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=401148
And on the opera forums:
http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=183923

They say it's because of the libx11-6's upgrade

has spaces in it's path.
