2012-07-07 Thread Joseph Chereshnovsky
Skype works great but I still can't start Google Chrome with webcamera
support - so Google Talk video calls are still not functioning properly.

Here is the response I have during running the Google Talk:

Possibly that will help to resolve the issue?

and the rest can be ignored as they are listed even when I don't use the

2012-05-23 Thread Joseph Chereshnovsky
Still can't resolve this issue and camera in my Google Chrome still
flipped upside down.

This doesn't works for some reason aswell:
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libv4l/v4l1compat.so google-chrome

So while visiting this URL: https://apprtc.appspot.com/?r=12169946 - the
image is still flipped.

How can I remove old/buggy libraries to allown only latest fixed ones?
Possibly create some symlinks to replace them for all applications?

[Bug 826265] Re: flipped webcam image with libv4l on ASUS U31F

2012-05-10 Thread Joseph Chereshnovsky
Reverted library back

ii libv4l-0 0.8.6-1ubuntu1
Collection of video4linux support libraries
ii libv4lconvert00.8.6-1ubuntu1
Video4linux frame format conversion library

But my problem not only in Skype. Camera displays flipped image in Google
Chrome browser here:
https://apprtc.appspot.com/?r=50397532

and in Skype as well, possibly in other apps as well.

It would be interesting to avoid application specific fix, just want to have
camera working for all apps like I had in Ubuntu 11.10 before upgrade.

2012-05-10 Thread Joseph Chereshnovsky
It works!
$ LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype

but now it would be great to have it operational out of the box, without
a need to run from CLI, and also make webcam to work in Google Chrome.

How can I avoid using LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libv4l/v4l1compat.so
to start my application by clicking on icon?
Possibly symlinking this library somewhere to make it available for all apps at
one time???

Because creating the start script like skype.sh with appropriate
command and then replacing the original Skype icon in menu with this
script, and repeat that for all uncompatible programms - looks ugly for
me.

https://launchpad.net/~libv4l/+archive/development

But now I'm upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04 and error occurs again. I plan to
install the version from PPA again, but anyway it would be great to have
the latest version shipped with Ubuntu out of the box.

[Bug 826265] Re: flipped webcam image with libv4l on ASUS U31F

2012-05-09 Thread Joseph Chereshnovsky
I have the latest Ubuntu 12.04 32-bit on ASUS U31F
Installed latest available version from PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~libv4l/+archive/development

dpkg -l libv4l* says:
ii libv4l-0 0.9.0~test1+r1269-53~precise1
Collection of video4linux support libraries
ii libv4lconvert10.9.0~test1+r1269-53~precise1
Video4linux frame format conversion library

But problem wasn't resolved for some reason :(

I've even tried to create a symbolic link as it was described in
comments #3 and #4 - but that doesn't helps

My image from camera is still flipped up side down

[Bug 826265] [NEW] flipped webcam image with libv4l on ASUS U31F

2011-08-14 Thread Joseph Chereshnovsky
Public bug reported:

I have the latest Ubuntu 11.04 32-bit on ASUS U31F

I've followed these instruction to resolve the issue with my web camera
http://radu.cotescu.com/flipped-images-ubuntu-webcam/

but it doesn't works for me as I wasn't able to locale the file
/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so after successful installation.

I've found that only people with 64-bit editions have the same issue as this
library located under
/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l1compat.so

But I have Ubuntu 11.04 32-bit and directory /usr/lib/libv4l doesn't exists
after successful package installation from this PPA
 https://launchpad.net/~libv4l/+archive/ppa

Anyway I was able to locale the installed files and for some reason they were
placed under
/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libv4l

later I've found the following blog post with the hack but not any explanation
http://www.sergioller.com/drupal/en/node/15

anyway finally my webcam DOESN'T works, even after I've tried everything
described
I'm ready to participate, test and provide feedback/

possibly will be useful for all others who have the same issue

[Bug 349312] Re: Evolution 2.26 does not support import of outlook .pst

2010-10-07 Thread Joseph Chereshnovsky
Hi, guys.

Its almost the end of 2010 year and Microsoft opened PST format
specifications couple months ago, but my Evolution is still not able to
import outlook data files.

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 and I don't have and option to import PST files in my

What is wrong with my Evolution?

Was this fix really released?

[Bug 656269] [NEW] Forward button in evolution import assistant is disabled while trying to import PST file

2010-10-07 Thread Joseph Chereshnovsky
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Trying to import PST file into my Evolution but it seams like a but with
import wizard. It doesn't shows any error messages, just the button to
the next step of wizard is disabled without any reason.

PST Import plugin is enabled in Plugins Manager Edit - Plugins

I'm clicking File - Import... to open Evolution Import Assistant.
Then I click Forward to skip a welcome screen and select to import from
single file.

After that I select my file in file selection dialog in Filename: field.
My file was correctly recognized as Outlook personal folders (.pst) in File
type: field.

But I can't click Forward button as it is disabled.

Please refer this screenshot that contains the dialog step described above:

[Bug 656269] Re: Forward button in evolution import assistant is disabled while trying to import PST file

2010-10-07 Thread Joseph Chereshnovsky
* Is this reproducible?

- Yes I can reproduce this issue not only on my Ubuntu installation but
also on all other installations I've tried (including my home desktop
ubuntu computer and eeepc laptop with UNR installation)

* If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?

- You can find a reproducing steps in my first post. Here are a cleaned
up step by step version:

0. Make sure that PST Import plugin is enabled in Plugins Manager
Edit - Plugins

1. Click File - Import... to open Evolution Import Assistant

2. Click Forward to skip a welcome screen,

3. Select to import from single file and click Forward

4. Select PST file in Filename: field, file will be recognized as
Outlook personal folders (.pst) in File type: field.

5. Error is reproduced! The Forward button to open the next step of wizard is
disabled.
See screenshot for details:
http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/9356/screenshotevolutionimpo.png

My .pst file is about 5.7Gb and it holds my personal emails archive from my
Microsoft Outlook before I migrated to Ubuntu. I think you can download a trial
version of Microsoft Outlook from microsoft.com site and create a testing PST
file for your needs using Windows machine.

Anyway if you will not be able to do that I can try to recover my
Outlook installation and provide you will a PST file of small size.

Ditto. It was an unpleasant surprise, especially because most of these
notifications concern simply change of status and merges.

What the hell you guys are doing. I have got more than 150 mails on
this since morning. Why are you filling my inbox with junk mails?

I have reported a bug doesn't mean you can fill my inbox with spam

[Bug 351186] Re: [ubuntu 9.04] slow unminimizing with ati card and desktop effects enabled

2009-05-11 Thread Joseph Chereshnovsky
Hi,
After applying patch all works smoothly.
But found the problem reported above.

1. The video playback is unstable:
- Some times it freezes the player (reproducible in Thotem, VLC and all other
players)
- Video playback sometimes is very slw, after player window resizing
- Crashes to black screen so that I need to hardware-reboot the hole operating
system (!!!) during video playback (also on switching to full screen)

2. Screen capture software slows down the hole system:

I'm using gtk-recordmydesktop and it makes my system tooo looow so
that it is impossible to record any actions.

Hope this will help to investigate this problem.

[Bug 277906] Re: compiz.real crashed with SIGSEGV (multiple causes and hardware)

2009-05-07 Thread Joseph Chereshnovsky
Any progress on this?

I have upgraded to 9.04 from my 8.10

8.10 was great and it works stable and fast.

But after upgrading to 9.04 with xorg 1.6 the compiz freezes, some times
crashes and always veryy slow.

There is some patch that was discussed here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/351186
to fix the compiz to work very slooowww.

But I'm not able to apply that patch as I'm not and compiling guru. Can
anybody create the step by step instruction for this, because as I
understand this problem affects EVERYONE on Ubuntu 9.04 with ATI graphic
card.

2009-04-19 Thread Joseph Chereshnovsky
Hi, guys.

My system is slows down in graphic mode too.

I have ATI Radeon HD3600 video card, but can't work comfortable with
graphic desktop like it was in Ubuntu 8.10

The workaround, that I found was changing
Setting - System - Preferences - Visual Effects
to 'None', like it was mentioned by blablaa above.

Also I've found the similar problem described here:

[Bug 351186] Re: [ubuntu 9.04 beta]slow unminimizing with ati card and desktop effects enabled

2009-04-11 Thread Joseph Chereshnovsky
Its not only unminimizing effect is too slow.

I've found that all my system slows down on
unminimize/maximize/unmaximize (minimize is works smoothly by the
way).

Slowdown is global because for example even my music player stops
playback for couple seconds during unminimizing huge applications.

Overal system slowdown period is from 1 to 4 seconds and depends on
application I'm unminimizing.

For example if I'm unminimizing the application like FireFox with over
15 tabs tha holds about 450 Mb RAM it slows down all the system for
about 3 seconds and y music player stops playback for 1 second.
