[Bug 220263] Re: Bad Firefox integration with dark themes

2016-05-09 Thread Luis Mondesi
I'm using Firefox 46.0+build5 on Ubuntu 16.04 and this bug just hit me
after many years of using the global dark theme (Adwaita + Humanity Dark
icons).

If I turn off the "Global Dark Theme" in Gnome tweak tool, everything is
back to normal in Firefox.

It seems to me that the bug is somewhere in
/usr/share/themes/Adwaita/gtk-2.0/gtkrc.

Essentially, going to pages like this https://net-
ssh.github.io/scp/v1/api/classes/Net/SCP.html is completely unreadable.
If I highlight the invisible text, I'm able to see there is something
there whose color matches the background color!

In other words, it's not useful to mess with the default web page colors
to try to make the "dark" theme work 100% of the time across all kinds
of webpages. That's only 1 example of many places where this new theme
has broken functionality. Some forms present unreable or "invisible"
inputs!!

[Bug 1468185] Re: Function 'innodb' already exists and other errors

2016-04-19 Thread Luis Mondesi
never mind, the reason was that my /etc/mysql/my.cnf file contained 2
variables that the newer mysqld did not like. Running this shows the
error in the log file (/var/log/mysql/error.log):

# su - mysql -s /bin/sh -c "/usr/bin/mysqld_safe"

The two variables were:

[mysqld]
...
key_buffer = 16M
myisam-recover = BACKUP

[Bug 1568945] [NEW] Firefox detects segfault of gstreamer and hangs

2016-04-11 Thread Luis Mondesi
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 16.04 with Firefox 45.0.1+build1-0ubuntu1, whenever I got to
this URL it prints the following error in the console:

ERROR: Caught a segmentation fault while loading plugin file:
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/gstreamer-1.0/libgstclutter-3.0.so

This is how to reproduce this:

1. Open Firefox (command line or UI)
2. Type this in the location bar: http://stream.wqxr.org/wqxr
3. press ENTER

Streaming classical music from WQXR was working fine for all previous
version of Ubuntu until 16.04.

[Bug 1507002] [NEW] "boot error" is back!

2015-10-16 Thread Luis Mondesi
Public bug reported:

Today I upgraded to Ubuntu 15.10 (wily) from vivid and creating boot
disks (USB, vfat) stopped working.

I tried my best to find what's the problem, but I couldn't identify it.
It looks like it's related to LP: #398241 (or the debian bug referred
there)

Essentially, I did

1. create empty USB disk
2. format as vfat (mkfs -t ... -- -F32 -n 'label')
3. syslinux --install path/to/image -t 512
4. boot a computer with it
5. SYSLINUX 6.03 ... "boot error" <-- is displayed

I then downgraded to syslinux 3:6.03+dfsg-5ubuntu1, did the same thing,
and it worked again.

I believe this is related to ldlinux.sys, ldlinux.c32, linux.c32,
menu.c32, or libutil.c32, since at least the machine boots to syslinux,
it simply does not proceed to display my menu.

They refer to previous names of the same interface as it went from being
called eth0 to now em0. When attempting to start networking via
systemctl start networking, it times out with:

Mar 09 11:23:26 my_hostname_here systemd[1]: Starting LSB: Raise network
interfaces
Mar 09 11:23:26 my_hostname_here networking[7235]: * Configuring network

Mar 09 11:28:26 my_hostname_here networking[7235]: Failed to bring up em0.

Commenting out said lines fixed the problem. Although I have not restarted yet
to actually verify, but systemctl start networking is now happy. I'll restart
and report back if this didn't fix the problem.

Ok, no mater what I do, I cannot get this to work. I commented all but 1

[Bug 1220775] [NEW] background ghost effect after transition

2013-09-04 Thread Luis Mondesi
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 13.10 as well as 13.04, the gnome3 gnome-shell timed
background changing function causes weird transitions when going from
one background image to another.

Say image 1 is showing and it's time to transition to image 2, I'll end
up seeing a mashup of both images as if image 1 was super-imposed into
image 2.

[Bug 1187800] [NEW] host identification changed not displayed

2013-06-05 Thread Luis Mondesi
Public bug reported:

This bug is similar to Bug #944040 in that remmina displays:

Unable to connect to RDP server XX

And removing the server IP, hostname and FQDN from
~/.freerdp/known_hosts fixes the issue.

Behavior:

1. Reboot windows machine
2. Reconnect with Remmina
3. Some how the host identification changed (group policy? I don't manage this)
4. Remmina displays unable to connect ...

Opening remmina from the command line shows:

[Bug 1187804] [NEW] minimize application on gnome3 and loose it!

2013-06-05 Thread Luis Mondesi
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 13.04

ii ubuntu-gnome-desktop 0.11 amd64 The Ubuntu

desktop client for GNOME desktop environment

Behavior:

1. launch remmina
2. make a connection using RDP
3. minimize the connection
4. minimize the remmina app

Both minimize windows are lost forever. You cannot restore them from
anywhere. If you have a bottom bar enabled in Gnome3 (where minimize
applications can be clicked to be restored), you will see that #4 the
remmina window exists and then vanishes it as the minimize animation
finishes

[Bug 848562] Re: gnome-shell lock screen does not display password prompt

2012-11-30 Thread Luis Mondesi
The same thing happens again on 12.10 using 2 monitors and gdm instead of
lightdm. the behavior is:
(note that I have synergy setup as well)

* CTRL+ALT+L to lock the screen
* curtain effect rolls down showing the clock
* press ESC so the curtain moves up to be able to type the password, but
nothing happens (with any other key either)
* the clock and mouse can move freely and I can move the mouse to other screens
on other desktops via synergy!

My workaround for this is:

1. press CTRL+ALT+F2
2. type restart
3. press ENTER

After that the desktop shows fine and all my virtual desktops are
collapsed into 1, but all programs keep running.

[Bug 957142] [NEW] apt-key calls wget without proxy environment variable

2012-03-16 Thread Luis Mondesi
Public bug reported:

When running as a regular user the command 'sudo update-manager -d',
sudo strips the environment of the http_proxy variable which is needed
for apt-key netupdate to run wget and update Ubuntu keyring.

Even setting the proxy environment variables from /etc/environment or
modifying the APT proxy settings via Acquire::http { Proxy ... } as apt-
key calls wget to fetch the keyring instead of using APT internals.

[Bug 45018] Re: Unlock screen is invisible with Nvidia twinview

2011-09-09 Thread Luis Mondesi
I started having this issue after upgrading to Oneiric (11.10). Previous
versions of Ubuntu worked fine. I'm using nvidia card with dual-head
(twinview). also, I'm using gnome3 from universe.

locking screen works. no screensaver. moving the mouse shows the mouse
pointer changing when it goes over the dialog where you would be typing
your password. typing my password logs me in.

on 11.04 I was using gnome3 from the gnome3 ppa team and everything
worked fine. then i did a do-release-upgrade -d a few days after beta1
was announced.

[Bug 831534] [NEW] nvidia kernel module fails to build when ccache is used

2011-08-22 Thread Luis Mondesi
Public bug reported:

steps to reproduce:

sudo apt-get install ccache
sudo ln -s /usr/bin/ccache /usr/local/bin/gcc
sudo ln -s /usr/bin/ccache /usr/local/bin/g++
sudo ln -s /usr/bin/ccache /usr/local/bin/cc
sudo ln -s /usr/bin/ccache /usr/local/bin/c++

sudo apt-get install nvidia-current

...
dkms failed to build

To fix it, move the /usr/local/bin/ symlinks out of the way and apt-get
remove/install nvidia-current.

It complaints about not matching compiler version and advises to check
/var/lib/dkms/nvidia-current/270.41.06/build/ for more information.

[Bug 520500] Re: booting iso from stick via grub2 loopback gets stuck on particular crypt-luks partition

2011-05-16 Thread Luis Mondesi
in my case /dev/sda is a bad disk with bad sectors that I fixed with
spinrite. when the USB disk attempts to boot it goes to /dev/sda1 to
attempt to find the iso but this produces nothing since the disk is bad.
i can do: mount /dev/sdb1 /isodevice

how do i tell the ubuntu boot process in which device to look for the
iso? this is an embeded device so i can't just open it and remove the
disk.

[Bug 773063] Re: [Natty] gnome-about-me box doesn't remember contents

2011-05-09 Thread Luis Mondesi
Please fix this as this is really annoying. All the info I had is now
gone. I usually populate this stuff even though it's not really being
used from anywhere that I can think of. But seeing it gone now reminds
me of how fragile Ubuntu Linux desktops really are... It looks like
every time I use some feature is broken in one way or another.

Natty could be the way of the future, but breaking everything in its
path is not the way. More QA is needed.

[Bug 714300] Re: ath5k wireless fails to connect natty

2011-04-22 Thread Luis Mondesi
I installed Natty (beta2) from 10.10 using do-release-upgrade -d today
and my wiki network is not working. the ath5k driver is loaded and sudo
lshw -C network shows the interface. network manager does not list any
wireless connections and iwconfig does not list the interface.

Attempts to remove the kernel module ath5k causes a crash.

BUG: unable to handle pointer null kernel dereference... is in the
syslog.

Everything used to work fine under 10.10 and previous versions.

[Bug 516132] Re: modem-manager: Got failure code 100: Unknown error

2011-03-10 Thread Luis Mondesi
I recently started seeing this problem on an OQO model 02. I'm going
through the debugging steps, but it appears that the kernel sees the
modem on two devices /dev/ttyUSB0 and /dev/ttyUSB1.

I wonder if this is the normal behavior as this used to work just find a
few weeks ago. This is on:

Ubuntu 10.10 maverick with kernel 2.6.35-22-generic and
2.6.32-24-generic.

I might try upgrading to a newer revision of the OS if everything else
fails.

don't have to do ugly hacks.

sudo update-alternatives --install /usr/bin/net net /usr/bin/net.samba3 50
sudo update-alternatives --install /usr/bin/testparm testparm
/usr/bin/testparm.samba3 50

[Bug 449096] Re: Folder Sharing Options problem. testparm (No such file or dir)

2011-02-23 Thread Luis Mondesi
While you are at it, fix the others too (smbstatus, nmblookup):

for bin in net nmblookup smbstatus testparm; do
  sudo update-alternatives --install /usr/bin/$bin $bin /usr/bin/$bin.samba3 50
done

[Bug 339971] Re: cannot delete evolution-mapi account

2010-11-11 Thread Luis Mondesi
changed google accounts to use two-factor authentication and assigned a token
for evolution (a special password). now evolution prompted for passwords for
accounts (imap) and addressbooks, but calendars cannot be fixed. perhaps
because of offline operations?
attempting to delete the calendar does not do anything either.

2010-10-09 Thread Luis Mondesi
I did do-release-upgrade -d to go from Lucid to Maverick and X stopped
working.

If i start the system in failsafe and then use X failsafe, I'm able to
use X. My /var/log/Xorg.0.log file is pretty much the same as the one
published.

This is an IBM Leonovo x60s laptop.
