[Bug 691027] Re: USB Printer not re-enabled after printer power off
Ok, after a deep look into this it seems the usblp kernel module does not set the ieee1284_id proper, which makes system-config-printer-udev skip the device even though the serial number is present.. I tested this for my setup (after going in circles for a good while) with: # watch -d -n 1 'cat /sys/devices/pci\:00/\:00\:02.1/usb1/1-3/1-3\:1.1/ieee1284_id' USB hub and port number do not change by themself, so when unplugging you can see the file disappear and reappear on replug. However, when doing a power off/up cycle of the device, it is populated only incompletely: MODE:PCL;STATUS:IDLE; Waiting does not help.. However, executing /usr/lib/cups/backend/usb does! A quick strace shows that it sends some IOCTLs to the USB sub system, which makes the correct ieee1284_id reinitialize - after that manual printer resume with config-printer-udev does work. Here, my ambition to further nail the issue is exhausted - not going to dive into kernel debugging on a saturday evening C-; someone have a look at code in that backend, please ;-) ** Package changed: udev (Ubuntu) = system-config-printer (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/691027 Title: USB Printer not re-enabled after printer power off To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/system-config-printer/+bug/691027/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

..recent udev seems to fail to generate these symlinks for internal devices because ID_PATH is not set and write_cd_rules needs it for the default by-path method else f.e. # udevadm test $(udevadm info -q path -n /dev/sr0) will echo $DEVPATH not supported by path_id. by-id may work. *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1755863 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1755863 ok this seems to be caused by the tmp.mount unit, that is generated from /etc/fstab. Mounting a tmpfs over /tmp will make existing files inaccessible, so it has to be done as early as possible, i.e. `Before=basic.target`. It has to occur reliable before live- config.service invokes, so `WantedBy=live-config.service`. [Bug 1806865] Re: Ghostscript removes links (regression from gs 9.18)
TLDR fix: add `-dPrinted=false` "This was a bug fix, the behaviour previously was incorrect, now it is as intended. The Annotations in your PDF file have no /Flags entry, in the absence of that, the default value (0) is used. This means that bit 3 of the Flags value is 0, from the PDF Reference: 3 Print (PDF 1.2) If set, print the annotation when the page is printed. If clear, never print the annotation, regardless of whether it is displayed on the screen. This can be useful, for example, for annotations representing interactive pushbuttons, which would serve no meaningful purpose on the printed page. (See implementation note 83 in Appendix H.) The default behaviour of the Ghostscript PDF interpreter is to be a printer. Since these annotations do not have any effect on a printer, they are dropped. If you add to the command line -dPrinted=false then the PDF interpreter behaves as a display device instead. Because these annotations don't have NoView set, the PDF interpreter will process them, which means they will end up in the PDF file, when using pdffwrite." from https://bugs.ghostscript.com/show_bug.cgi?id=699830 (Hyperlinks broken after conversion) & several "duplicate" reports https://bugs.ghostscript.com/show_bug.cgi?id=699896 (PDF Anchor Links no longer working since version 25) https://bugs.ghostscript.com/show_bug.cgi?id=700048 (Clickable links lost when converting to pdf) ... ** Bug watch added: Ghostscript (AFPL) Bugzilla #699830 http://bugs.ghostscript.com/show_bug.cgi?id=699830 ** Bug watch added: Ghostscript (AFPL) Bugzilla #699896 http://bugs.ghostscript.com/show_bug.cgi?id=699896 ** Bug watch added: Ghostscript (AFPL) Bugzilla #700048 http://bugs.ghostscript.com/show_bug.cgi?id=700048 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1806865 Title: Ghostscript removes links (regression from gs 9.18) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ghostscript/+bug/1806865/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
